A study on the micro hole machining of Al2O3 ceramics ($Al_2O_3$ 세라믹의 미세구멍 가공에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes result of experiment of parameters affecting the micro hole drilling time, kind of assisting gas and it's pressure. The result reveals that parameter value of 0.08J, 20Hz, dwell time of 300 microseconds can be a good machining condition to make micro hole diameter range of 50-70${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, Assistant gas such air, O2, Ar, N2 was adapted. Assistant gas of air makes heat affected zone enlarge due to burning of material, also it makes hole irregular and damage because of refusion stick to caused by chemical reaction with Al2O3 ceramic material. O2(99.9%) has good characteristic to get good drilling and smooth surface on pressure of 0.2kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$, but it is expensive. Ar, N2 makes material burn and crack severely and proved to be an appropriate but, Ar was better than N2.

  • In micro hole punching process the burr occurs inevitably, but the burr must be minimized in order to improve the quality and accuracy of the product. In this study, magnetic field assisted polishing technique is applied to remove the burr which exists in nozzles for ink-jet printer head and proved to be a feasible for deburring by experiment. The deburring characteristics of sheet metals was investigated changing with polishing time. After the deburring, the burr size has remarkably reduced and roundness of the hole also has improved.

  • The Magnetoeheological fluid has the properties that it's viscosity has dramastic changed under some magnetic fields therefore, Magnetorhlogical fluids has been used for micro polishing of the micro part( for example, a aspherical surface in a micro lens). The polishing process may appears as follows. A part rotating on the spindle is brought into contact with an Magnetorhological finshing(MRF) fluids which is set in motion by the moving wall. In the region where the part and the MRF fulid ate brought into contact, the applied magnetic field creates the conditions necessary for the material removal from the part surface. The material removal takes place in a certain region contacting the surface of the part which can be called the polishing spot or zone. The polishing mechanism of the material removal in the contact zone is considered as a process governed by the particularities of the Bingham flow in the contact zone. Resonable calculated and experimental magnitudes of the material removal rate f3r glass polishing lends support the validity of the approach.

Structural Optimization Using Micro-Genetic Algorithm (마이크로 유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 구조 최적설계)

  • SGA (Single Genetic Algorithm) is a heuristic global optimization method based on the natural characteristics and uses many populations and stochastic rules. Therefore SGA needs many function evaluations and takes much time for convergence. In order to solve the demerits of SGA, $\mu$GA(Micro-Genetic Algorithm) has recently been developed. In this study, $\mu$GA which have small populations and fast convergence rate, was applied to structural optimization with discrete or integer variables such as 3, 10 and 25 bar trusses. The optimized results of $\mu$GA were compared with those of SGA. Solutions of $\mu$GA for structural optimization were very similar or superior to those of SGA, and faster convergence rate was obtained. From the results of examples, it is found that $\mu$GA is a suitable and very efficient optimization algorithm for structural design.

  • There are many factors which affect the acoustical properties of a micro-speaker. Among the factors, the shape of the diaphragm is considered in this study. As an investigating method, the finite element methods and measurement techniques applied to study the acoustical properties according to diaphragm shape. In order to vary the stiffness of the diaphragm, the some patterns of comb teeth, such as the angle and the number of comb teeth, are applied to diaphragm. We can confirm that the change of the stiffness by the changing diaphragm shape affects the vibration and sound properties of the speaker. As a result, the reduction of the angle of the comb teeth increases the diaphragm stiffness and shifts the resonance frequency to a higher frequency range. The number of the comb teeth is related to the stiffness of the edge part.

  • Polycarbonate (PC) polymer is an engineering plastic which has large tensile strength and impact resistance and is wildly used as functional parts like micro mold. Direct machining of PC materials produces lots of burrs and rough surface due to large ductility and weak heat resistance and hence it is very difficult to machine PC materials using cutting tool to make micro-parts. In this study, elliptical vibration cutting (EVC) or 2-dimensional vibration cutting was performed to minimize the size of micro V-grooves on PC material. From the experimental results, it was observed that as the cutting depth and pattern size become smaller, the better machining quality was obtained, which is attributed to the positive effect of EVC that is dependent on the ratio of vibration amplitude to cutting depth. As the height of V-groove becomes less than $1.8{\mu}m$, however, the machining quality becomes lower as the pattern size decreases.

  • This paper addresses the method for figuring out the hole diameter on the mask containing the information about machining depth. With this mask e micro machining is carried out with a simple 2D movement of the mask. Based on e suggested method excimer laser ablation processes are modeled and determination of the optimal laser ablation conditions such as hole diameter, step size, mask movement velocity, etc. is completed. The excimer laser ablation simulation for creating 3D micro lens is carried out by employing determined ablation conditions to prove verification of the method. The results from simulation illustrated the average error of 140nm and e relative error of 2%.

  • Fresnel lenses are developed for flat optics with the optical characteristics close to aspherical lens such as sharp focusing and dispersion instead of spherical or aspherical surface. Usually, these fresnel lenses and diffraction gratings are machined by high-energy beam such as electron beam machining, but recently with the development of ultra precision machine tool and machining technology, 3-dimension micro machining becomes preferable. This study on the micro machining of fresnel lens is carried out to develop the basic technology of ultra precision micro machining. The machined lens mold will be used for the manufacturing of fresnel lens with 120mm focal distance using synthetic resin material with 1.49 refractive index(PMMA), and the shape of lens is 48mm diameter, $300\mum$ pitch and about $5-700\mum$depth of groove in brass.

  • The Dielectric Barrier micro-hollow cathode structure and it's upper pD limitation are investigated for determining of optimum hollow cathode discharge condition. In experiment, discharge is sustained by AC diriving and investigated gas is pure Xe. From Experiment, Optimum pD range is lower than 0.72 torr.cm at pure Xe and Cu cathode.

  • Recently, there are many studies for the micro-machining using Piezo actuator. However, because of its step by step motion, it is nearly impossible to increase the machining accuracy for a circular path. To increase the accuracy, it is well known that it is necessary the finer and synchronous movement for x-y axes. Therefore, this paper proposes a voltage control for finer movement of the actuator, and realizes a synchronous control for the x-y axes. The experimental results show that the machining accuracy is remarkably improved.
