In this Study, efficiencies of the scroll expander under development for organic Rankine cycle using engine waste heat of vehicle have been analyzed and compared with the commercial scroll expander. While operating organic Rankine cycle for analysing expander efficiencies, power of expander, inlet temperature of expander, inlet pressure of expander and the flow rate of the working fluid(refrigerant R134a) have been measured. Overall efficiency of the expander has been shown the very low level compared with the overall efficiency of the commercial expander. Especially, because the low volumetric efficiency has much effect on overall efficiency, the working fluid leakage trouble of expander has to be solved surely for improvement of the expander overall efficiency.

The measurement system of the pressure in engine cylinder is developed with the aids of the microcomputer, A/D converter and simple electrical circuits. The experiment is performed in 4 cycle single cylinder Gasoline engine. When data for the pressure progress is sampled, clock signal or signal from the crank angle is used as trigger. The variation of the pressure during the cycles can be well obtained experimentally. So, the informations which are necessary in the combustion analysis, i.e. expansion pressure, indicated mean effective pressure, the magnitude and time of the maximum pressure ignition time, the rate of pressure rise and heat release and combustion rates can be obtained by the calculation using experimental data. Also, the informations about the after-burning process, the existence of the detonation waves and end time of combustion can be investigated from this study.
Recently, as a solution to the sharp drop in "power reserve ratio", it is being converted to a microgrid that enables bi-directional transmission and distribution. A microgrid is composed of a small-scale distributed power supply and a load. As a representative technology of distributed power generation, there is a Micro Combined Heat and Power system applied to homes and buildings. In this study, a safety standard was developed by dividing the power generation system, cooling system, lubrication system, and exhaust system to derive safety standards for a small gas engine power generation system with a gas consumption less than 232.6kW (200,000 kcal/h). In the case of the power generation system, a filter was installed and the system was stopped by detecting gas leakage and abnormalities in engine speed or output and the cooling system is stipulated to stop the system in case of insufficient cooling water or overheating. The lubrication system monitors the pressure and temperature of the lubricating oil and stops the system when an abnormality occurs, and the exhaust gas emission concentration regulation value was specified in accordance with domestic and foreign standards. Through the results of this study, it is judged that the safety of the gas engine power generation system can be improved and it can contribute to the commercialization of products.

In modern air combat, infrared signals play an important role in the detection of opponents and must be reduced to improve survivability and stealth. In particular, IR signals generated in the wake of aircraft engines have high intensity and short wavelengths, so most heat-tracking missiles detect these signals. Accordingly, the measurement and characteristic analysis of Gas radiation signals from the engine's wake were carried out in this study. Micro turbojet engine has been configured to simulate a real aircraft turbofan engine, and the characteristics of IR signal reduction by adjusting the bypass ratio were identified. Through this, the IR signal characteristics for each wavelength are analyzed and verification of signal reduction technologies is performed.

Infrared (IR) stealth technology to protect aircraft from heat-tracking missiles is a very important factor in the development of military aircraft. In this study, the intensities of signal generation were compared by observing the IR signals generated from the plumes of the engine and identifying them for each measurement angle. To simulate a jet engine applied to an actual aircraft, a small turbojet engine was constructed, the infrared signal characteristics for each wavelength were identified according to the measurement angle, and the total infrared radiance was derived by integrating the signal for each wavelength. Through this study, we intend to present basic data for improving the infrared stealth performance of aircraft.
Micro catalytic reactors are alternative propulsion device that can be used on a nano satellite. When used with a monopropellant, $H_2O_2$, a micro catalytic reactor needs only one supply system as the monopropellant reacts spontaneously on contact with catalyst and releases heat without external ignition, while separate supply lines for fuel and oxidizer are needed for a bipropellant rocket engine. Additionally, $H_2O_2$ is in liquid phase at room temperature, eliminating the burden of storage for gaseous fuel and carburetion of liquid fuel. In order to design a micro catalytic reactor, an appropriate catalyst material must be selected. Considering the safety concern in handling the monopropellants and reaction performance of catalyst, we selected hydrogen peroxide at volume concentration of 70% and perovskite redox catalyst of lantanium cobaltate doped with strondium. Perovskite catalysts are known to have superior reactivity in reduction-oxidation chemical processes. In particular, lantanium cobaltate has better performance in chemical reactions involving oxygen atom exchange than other perovskite materials. In the present study, a process to prepare perovskite type catalyst, $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}CoO_3$, and measurement of its propellant decomposition performance in a test reactor are described.

Cogeneration is an energy conversion process, where electricity and useful heat are produced simultaneously in one process. Also, carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced as well. The cogeneration process may be based on the use of steam, gas turbines or combustion engines. However, there have been few models with an output of less than 100 kilowatt. In the present study, a spark ignited gas engine with generation output of 10 kilowatts was developed for micro cogeneration package. The gas engine shows 29.2$\%$ of thermal efficiency under Stoichiometric combustion and 33.6$\%$ of thermal efficiency under lean combustion. NOx emission shows less than 10ppm at 13$\%$ oxygen under stoichiometric combustion and about 100ppm at 13$\%$ oxygen under lean combustion.
The piston engine is an essential component in automobiles. Since the piston is used in a high temperature and high pressure environment, the piston needs to be manufactured to achieve high strength and high durability. In addition, cost reduction is also an important consideration. In conventional forging, an additional heat treatment after hot forging is necessary to ensure proper mechanical properties for heavy-duty engine pistons. The newly developed manufacturing method lowers production costs by saving manufacturing time and reduces energy consumption. The current paper describes the hot forging of an engine piston made from 38MnSiVS5 micro-alloyed steel using controlled cooling. The finite element analysis was used to check for possible problems and suitable press capacity. Hot forging experiments were then conducted on a 2500tons crank press to evaluate feasibility of the proposed material and process. To check the mechanical properties after hot forging, the forged specimens were tensile tested, and the microstructures were examined in order to compare the results with the conventionally forged material. The skirt region of the as-forged 38MnSiVS5 piston showed better material properties compared to the conventional material. In addition, the total production time was reduced by about 80% as compared to conventional forging.

The objective of this study is to predict the structural characteristics of a heat exchanger mounted on an aircraft engine using finite element analysis. The plastic fracture and life of the heat exchanger were estimated by a thermo-mechanical analysis. Tensile tests were conducted under high temperature conditions (700, 800, 900, 1000 K) using five specimens to obtain the mechanical properties of the Inconel 625 tubes. To assess the structural characteristics of the heat exchanger, the full and partial models were applied under the operating conditions given by the thermo-mechanical and inertial load. As a result, the case, tubesheet, flange, and mounting components have a reasonable safety margin to the allowable stress assuming a fatigue strength of Inconel 625 of 10000 cycles under 1000 K.

The use of emulsified fuel and EGR (Exhaust gas recirculation) system are effective methods to reduce NOx emission from diesel engines. In general, it is considered that EGR method influences diesel engine combustion in three different ways: thermal, chemical and dilution effect. Among others, the thermal effect is related to the increase of specific heat capacity due to the presence of $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ in inlet air. Meanwhile, emulsified fuel method of utilizing latent heat of vaporization and miro-explosion has been recognized as an effective technique for reducing diesel engine emissions. In this paper, an author studied on combustion and emission characteristics by using emulsified fuel (EF, Light oil : 80% + Water : 20%) and EGR (30% EGR ratio) system. And the effect of fuel injection pattern control was investigated.
