  • A proform for engine valve was designed by finite element method. In the preform design of engine valve, various initial billets are simulated for better preform to get sound final product. Here a preform is design to get desirable metal flow in the forming so that the final product has more uniform strain distribution. after forming. The analysis of the micro-structure of the value formed through the designed process was also performed and result was compared with that of simulation.

  • Finite element simulation is an alternative method to practically find the forming limit diagram(FLD). In this paper, the novel fracture criterion is utilized to predict the FLD in conjunction with finite element analysis for sheet forming. The principal scheme of the fracture criterion in this paper is that growth of the micro voids leads up to fracture in the viewpoint of micro-mechanics. The numerical FLD is verified by results of the out-of plane stretching test using hemispherical punch. The verification is also conducted about two types of material. These results are in good accord with the experimental results. Especially, the proposed scheme is appropriate to predict FLDs for a restricted material with low ductility after the instability point or ultimate tensile strength.

  • In this study, the factors that have strong relationship with size effects on forging simulation are investigated and then a dimensionless concept is implemented into the forging simulator. The approach is applied to simulating a micro former forging process of which sequence involves a piercing process to make a hole of 0.7mm diameter of the product whose maximum diameter is 3mm. The simulated results are discussed to reveal the size effect in forging simulation.

  • Navier-Stokes simulation of the flow in a micro viscous pump is carried out. The micro viscous pump consists of a rotating circular rotor placed in a two dimensional channel. All simulation is carried out by using a finite volume approach, at the Reynolds number of 0.5, to study the performance of the micro viscous pump. Length of channel of the pump is varied to simulate the effects of the pumping load. Numerical solutions show that the net flow of the pump is realized by two counter rotating vortices formed on both sides of the rotor. The volume flow rate of the pump is decreased as length of the channel is increased, while the static pressure difference across the rotor is increased. The static pressure difference across the rotor is observed to be inversely proportional to the volume flow rate as inertia effects are negligibly small. The efficiency of the pump is found to reach a maximum when two counter rotating vortices on both sides of the rotor becomes to merge forming an outer enveloping vortex.

  • Milli-structure components are classified as a component group whose size is between macro and micro scales, that is, about less than 20mm and larger than 1mm. The forming of these components has a typical phenomenon of bulk deformation with thin sheets because of the forming size. In this study, milli-structure rectangular cup drawing is analyzed and measured using the finite element method and experiment. Generally, milli-structure containers or cases like cellular phone vibrator consist of rectangular-shaped drawing to save installation space. A systematic approach is established for the design and the experiment of the forming processes for rectangular milli-structure cases. To verify the simulation results, the experimental investigations were also carried out on a real industrial product. The numerical analysis by FEM shows good agreement with the experimental results in view of the deformation shape of the product.

  • In this parer, we present the bubble forming and motion in the micro channel by using the two-dimensional numerical computation and experiment. In the numerical computation, The Lattice Boltzmann method(LBM) and free-energy model is used to treat the interfacial force and deformation of binary fluid system, drawn in to a micro channel and a numerical simulation is carried out by using the parallel computation method. The urn in this investigation is to examine the applicability of LBM to numerical analysis and experimental method of binary fluid separation and motion in the micro channel.

  • In order to cope with the requirements of smaller patterns, larger surfaces and lower costs in the fields of displays, optics and energy, greater attentions is now being paid to the development of micro-pattern machining technology. Compared with flat molds, roll molds have the advantages of short delivery, ease of manufacturing larger surfaces, and continuous molding. This paper presents the state-of-the-art of the micro pattern machining technology on the roll molds and introduces some research results on the machining process technology. The copper and nickel-phosphorous-alloy plating process, machining process technology for uniform micro patterns. micro cutting simulation and the real time monitoring system for micro machining are summarized. The developed technologies have led the complete localization of the prism sheets and will be applied to the direct forming process with succeeding research & development.

  • This study describes a simulation of two-dimensional bubble forming and motion by the Lattice Boltzmann Method with the phase field equation. The free energy model is used to treat the interfacial force and deformation of binary fluids system, drawn into a T-junction the micro channel. A numerical simulation of a binary flow in a cross-junction channel is carried out by using the parallel computation method. The aim in this investigation is to examine the applicability of LBM to numerical analysis of binary fluid separation and motion in the micro channel.
