The surface of an ordered mesoporous silica (OMS) was functionalized using 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyltrimethoxysilane at $20^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$. It was shown that only elevated temperature allows lyophobic properties on the walls of OMS, eventually preventing pore flooding with nonaqueous electrolytes. The functionalized OMSs (OMS-F) were characterized with various techniques: wettability test, $N_2$ sorption measurement, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). Cathodes of $10mg/cm^2$ loading were prepared with a commercial Pt/C catalyst and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF, 2.5 wt.%) binder using a typical doctor blade method on a commercial gas diffusion layer (GDL) in the presence or in the absence of OMS-F additives. Subsequent discharge-charge curves were taken in a 1M LiTFSI-TEGDME electrolyte at 60oC in pure oxygen atmosphere. It was found that the discharge capacity was significantly affected by OMS-F: 5 wt.% of additive extended discharge capacity by a factor 1.5. On the other hand, a similar OMS material but synthesized at $20^{\circ}C$ did not show lyophobic properties and deteriorated cathode capacity.

The electrical transport properties of YBCO single layers thin film have been investigated using different physical techniques. For the purpose, the physical properties are probed numerically with help of simulation modelling. The physical transport properties were also estimated with temperature and magnetic fields limits using thermally-activated flux flow model with some modifications. The result of present simulation modelling indicated that the magnitude of activation energy depends on temperature and magnetic field. The simulations revealed thickness dependent physical transport properties including electrical and magnetic properties of deposited YBCO single layers thin films. Furthermore, it shows the temperature dependence of the pinning energy. In the nutshell, the result can be used to improve the Superconducting Properties ($T_c$) of the YBCO single layers thin films.
TLC condition was developed for its simple separation and quantitative analysis of lactic acid. Rapid and clear separation of lactic acid by silica gel TLC plate was obtained by using nitromethane : 1-propanol : $H_2O$ (2 : 5 : 1.5, v/v/v) and a suitable dipping solution of 40 mg bromocresol purple in 100 mL 5% ethanol (pH 10.0). The lactic acid was shown as a bright yellow spot on a light cinnabar background. The quantitatively detectable concentration range of lactic acid was between 0.5 and 4% with 99.4%, confidence. Quantitative TLC analysis result was confirmed with HPLC and with enzymatic Quantitative analysis methods (by using lactate dehydrogenase).

A field test on mud flat remediation was carried out in order to observe the effects of the treatments such as microbial dose and an oxygen releasing compound like $CaO_2$. The size of each treatment site was $100m^2$ and the dosage was 3.6 kg per site. The 6 week monitoring showed that pH on two sites was below 7 and ORP increased from .178~-188 mV to .121~-142 mV. In Ignition loss and COD there were no significant changes. Meanwhile nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations changed: ammonia concentration decreased both on control and treatment sites. Nitrate nitrogen decreased more on combined treatment site than on single microbial treatment (11.3% vs. 7.3%) probably because the extra oxygen supplied by $CaO_2$ formed more oxic environment so that the facilitated nitrification might produce more nitrate but the nitrate would be much rapidly released into the water layer out of the sediment. That also explains the total nitrogen reduction(6.1%). Similarly, T-P and $PO_4-P$ reduced by 29% and 31.8%, respectively on combined treatment sites, resulting from the phosphorus release effect though the initial concentrations of the two factors were considerably high.

A laboratory-scale experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of soluble microbial products(SMP) on permeate flux in the submerged membrane separation activated sludge process. Continuous and batch filtration test were operated to understand mechanism of relationship between membrane fouling and SMP. Synthetic wastewater(phenol) was used as a carbon source. Hydraulic retention time(HRT) and mixed-liquor volatile suspended solids(MLVSS) of the reactor were kept at 12 hours and 9.000mg VSS/L, respectively. Batch filtration tests ($J_{60}/J_o$) using the mixed liquor from reactor showed that the increase of accumulated SMP concentration in the reactor caused to the decreasing permeate flux and the increasing of the adhesion matters which form cake and gel layer. The resistance value of cake layer was measured $2.9{\times}10^{10}{\sim}4.0{\times}10^{10}(1/m)$, this value showed more significant effect on flux drop than that of among other resistance layers. Batch phenol-degradation experiment was conducted to observe SMP type expected $SMP_{nd}$ and $SMP_{e}$ (SMP resulted from endogenous cell decomposition), these are non-biodegradable high molecular weight organic matter and playa significant role in permeate flux drop. Also, SMP concentration was accumulated as increased of HRT against flux drop.
W/O/W multiple emulsions were prepared comprising $MgSO_4$ in the inner aqueous phase as a model drug. The stability and drug release behavior of the multiple emulsions were studied using optical microscopy, viscometry and conductometry. Glucose was introduced in the outer aqueous phase to reduce the osmotic pressure gradient across the oil layer arising from the localization of drug molecules in the inner water phase. It was found that the presence of glucose was effective in stabilization of the multiple emulsions and in control of the release rate of drug more evidently when oil phase was partially hydrophilized with cetostearyl alcohol. This may be attributed to the fact that the migration of water accompanying the hydrophilic surfactant to the inner water phase was limited under a reduced osmotic pressure gradient and thereby slow down the destabilization of the oil/inner water interface.

Ni alloy tape is electropolished to be used as a metal substrate for fabrication of IBAD (ion-Beam Assisted Deposition)-MgO texture template fur HTS coated conductor. Electropolishing is needed to obtain a very smooth surface of Ni alloy tape because the in-plane texture of templates is sensitive to the roughness of metal substrate. The critical current of YBCO coated conductor depends on the texture of YBCO that depends on the texture of the IBAD MgO layer. And so the smoothness of the metal substrate is directly related to the superconducting properties of the coated conductor. In this study, we have prepared a reel-to-reel electropolishing apparatus to polish the Ni alloy tapes for IBAD. Various electropolishing conditions were investigated to improve the surface roughness. Hastelloy tape is continuously electropolished with high polishing current density (0.5 ∼ 2 A/$\textrm{cm}^2$) and fast processing time (1 ∼ 3 min). Polished hastelloy tapes have surface roughness(RMS) of below 1 nm on a 5 ${\times}$ 5 $\mu\m^2$ from AFM and SEM.
Recent theoretical calculations predicted that a system composed exclusively of 3d transition metals without 4d/5d transition metals or rare earth metals can have strong perpendicular magnetocrystalline anisotropy (MCA) if Fe and Ni layers are arranged appropriately. They considered only Fe-terminated surfaces, noting that Fe/MgO(001) and CoFeB/MgO(001) show strong perpendicular MCA. In this paper, we investigate magnetism and MCA of Ni/Fe(001) surface where Ni layer is positioned at the surface, by using complementarily the first principles calculational methods of Vienna Ab-initio Simulation Package (VASP) and Full-potential Linearized Augmented Plane Wave (FLAPW) method. Comparing results of magnetism and MCA obtained by VASP with the results by FLAPW method, we find the VASP results do not show big difference from results by FLAPW method. Magnetic moments of Fe and Ni are enhanced due to strong hybridization between Fe and Ni bands. MCA of Ni/Fe(001) is parallel to the surface, which implies the surface termination plays a crucial role in determining MCA of a system.
Four kinds of kalosaponins from inner bark of Kalopanax pictus Nakai as a medicinal and edible timber tree species growing in Korea was analyzed by HPLC. A considerable range of variation in the contents was observed among population. The kalosaponins contents in inner bark from each population were the highest in the Mt. Barwang (30.37 mg/g on the dry weight basis) followed by Mt. Gariwang, Hanra II, Mangun, Paltan, and Hanra II population. Growth factors that might have influenced the contents of the kalosaponins were also examined. As both analysis results of partial correlation and multiple regression, the weight of inner bark and tree age were influenced the kalosaponin O contents. The kalosaponin B contents was influenced by both the weight of inner layer bark and annual mean DBH increment. The contents of kalosaponins appeared to be closely related to the inner bark characteristics.
AC Losses for face to face stacks of four identical coated conductors (CCs) were numerically calculated using the H-formulation combined with the E-J power law and the Kim model. The motive sample was the face to face stack of four 2 mm-wide CC tapes with 2 ${\mu}m$ thick superconducting layer of which the critical current density, $J_c$, was $2.16{\times}10^6A/cm^2$ on IBAD-MgO template, which was suggested for the mitigation of ac loss as a round shaped wire by Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute. For the calculation the cross section of the stack was simply modeled as vertically aligned 4 rectangles of superconducting (SC) layers with $E=E_o(J(x,y,t)/J_c(B))^n$ in x-y plane where $E_o$ was $10^{-6}$ V/cm, $J_c$(B) was the field dependence of current density and n was 21. The field dependence of the critical current of the sample measured in four-probe method was employed for $J_c$(B) in the equation. The model was implemented in the finite element method program by commercial software. The ac loss properties for the stacks were compared with those of single 4 cm-wide SC layers with the same critical current density or the same critical current. The constraint for the simulation was imposed in two different ways that the total current of the stack obtained by integrating J(x,y,t) over the cross sections was the same as that of the applied transport current: one is that one fourth of the external current was enforced to flow through each SC. In this case, the ac loss values for the stacks were lower than those of single wide SC layer. This mitigation of the loss is attributed to the reduction of the normal component of the magnetic field near the SC layers due to the strong expulsion of the magnetic field by the enforced transport current. On the contrary, for the other case of no such enforcement, the ac loss values were greater than those of single 4cm-wide SC layer and. In this case, the phase difference of the current flowing through the inner and the outer SC layers of the stack was observed as the transport current was increased, which was a cause of the abrupt increase of ac loss for higher transport current.
