We have investigated the addition effect of NiO magnetic nanoparticles on crystal structure, microstructure as well as superconducting properties of $MgB_2$. NiO-added $MgB_2$ samples were prepared by the solid-state reaction method. The superconducting transition temperature ($T_c$) of 37.91 K was obtained for pure $MgB_2$, and $T_c$ was found to decrease systematically on increasing the addition level of NiO. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that no substitution of Ni for Mg in the lattice of $MgB_2$ was occurred. The microstructural analysis shows that the pure $MgB_2$ sample consists of plate shape $MgB_2$ grains, and the grains get refined to smaller size with the addition of NiO nanoparticles. At 5 K, high values of critical current density ($J_c$) were obtained for small amount NiO-added $MgB_2$ samples as compared to pure sample. The enhancement in $J_c$ could be attributed to the refinement of $MgB_2$ grains which leads to high density of grain boundaries in NiO-added $MgB_2$ samples.
The crystallization effects of boron (B) powder on the phase, full width at half maximum (FWHM) values, and critical properties were investigated for in-situ reacted $MgB_2$ bulk superconductors. The semi-crystalline B powder was heat-treated at different temperatures of 1000, 1300 and $1500^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours in an Ar atmosphere. Then, using as-received and heat-treated B powders, the $MgB_2$ samples were prepared at $600^{\circ}C$ for 40 hours in an Ar atmosphere. As the heat-treatment temperature of the B powder increased, both the particle size of the B powder and crystalline phase increased. In the case of $MgB_2$ samples using B powders heat-treated at above $1300^{\circ}C$, unreacted magnesium (Mg) and B remained due to the improved crystallinity of the B powder. As the heat-treatment temperature of B powder increased, the critical current density of $MgB_2$ decreased continuously due to the reduction of grain boundary density and superconducting volume caused by unreacted Mg and B.

Effect of mixed gas and additional Mg powder in an annealing process of the $MgB_2$ is investigated. Four different type of samples were prepared, each in different annealing environment of Ar, $Ar+4%H_2$, Ar with Mg powder and $Ar+4%H_2$ with Mg powder. Different annealing environment did not affect the electron-phonon interaction which is reflected from the same superconducting transition of 36.6 K for all samples. The reducing effect of hydrogen is clearly depicted from the presence of excess Mg in sample synthesized in $Ar+4%H_2$ gas implying the reduced rate of reaction between Mg and B. This has manifested itself in terms of slightly increased high-field critical current density of the sample. In contrast, the sample synthesized in $Ar+4%H_2$ with Mg powder, has shown overall enhancement in the superconducting properties as presented by higher diamagnetic saturation and critical current density.

Silver nano-powder was added to Ma $B_2$ to make (Ag)$_{(x)wt.%}$(Mg $B_2$)$_{(l00-x)wt.%}$ (A $g_{x}$-Mg $B_2$) (10 $\leq$ x $\leq$ 50) composite superconductors to investigate the effect of the Ag nano-powder on the vortex pinning. Pellets made out of the mixed powder were put inside stainless steel tubes, which were sintered at 85$0^{\circ}C$ in Ar atmosphere. No impurity phase was identified for as-rolled samples. However, both the Mg $B_2$ and the A $g_{x}$-Mg $B_2$ composite pellets, when sintered, contain small amount of Mg $B_4$ and MgAg impurity phases. From the magnetization study, it was found that the flux pinning was improved in the high magnetic field region (> 3 T) only when 10w/o Ag was added to Mg $B_2$. The "two step" structures in ZFC M(T) curve gradually increased as the amount of Ag added increased. Pinning centers can be created by adding a suitable amount of Ag nano-powder which is not too large to increase the decoupling between the Mg $B_2$ grains.crease the decoupling between the Mg $B_2$ grains.
We have investigated the effect of thickness of the MgB2 film on the grain growth direction as well as on their superconducting properties. $MgB_2$ films of various thicknesses were fabricated on c-cut $Al_2O_3$ substrates at a temperature of $540^{\circ}C$ by using hybrid physical-chemical vapor deposition (HPCVD) technique. The superconducting transition temperature ($T_c$) was found to increase with increase in the thickness of the $MgB_2$ film. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the orientation of grains changed from c-axis to a-axis upon increasing the thickness of the $MgB_2$ film from 0.6 to 2.0 ${\mu}m$. $MgB_2$ grains of various orientations were observed in the microstructures of the films examined by scanning electron microscopy. It is observed that at high magnetic fields the 2.0-${\mu}m$-thick film exhibit considerably larger critical current density ($J_c$) as compared to 0.6-${\mu}m$-thick film. The results are discussed in terms of an intrinsic-pinning in $MgB_2$ similarly as intrinsic-pinning occurring in high-Tc cuprate superconductors with layered structure.
We have grown $MgB_2$ superconducting thin films on the SiC buffer layers by means of hybrid physical-chemical vapor deposition (HPCVD) technique. Prior to that, SiC was first deposited on $Al_2O_3$ substrates at various temperatures from room temperature to $600^{\circ}C$ by using the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method in a vacuum atmosphere of ${\sim}10^{-6}$ Torr pressure. All samples showed a high transition temperature of ~40 K. The grain boundaries of $MgB_2$ samples with SiC layer are greater in amount, compare to that of the pure $MgB_2$ samples. $MgB_2$ with SiC buffer layer samples show interesting change in the critical current density ($J_c$) values. Generally, at both 5 K and 20 K measurements, at lower magnetic field, all $MgB_2$ films deposited on SiC buffer layers have low $J_c$ values, but when they reach higher magnetic fields of nearly 3.5 Tesla, $J_c$ values are enhanced. $MgB_2$ film with SiC grown at $600^{\circ}C$ has the highest $J_c$ enhancement at higher magnetic fields, while all SiC buffer layer samples exhibit higher $J_c$ values than that of the pure $MgB_2$ films. A change in the grain boundary morphologies of $MgB_2$ films due to SiC buffer layer seems to be responsible for $J_c$ enhancements at high magnetic fields.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of milling of boron (B), which is one of raw materials of $MgB_2$, on the critical current density ($J_c$) of $MgB_2$. B powder used in this study is semi-amorphous B (Pavezyum, Turkey, 97% purity, 1 micron). The size of B powder was reduced by planetary milling using $ZrO_2$ balls (a diameter of 2 mm). The B powder and balls with a ratio of 1:20 were charged in a ceramic jar and then the jar was filled with toluene. The milling time was varied from 0 to 8 h. The milled B powders were mixed with Mg powder in the composition of (Mg+2B), and the powder mixtures were uniaxially pressed at 3 tons. The powder compacts were heat-treated at $700^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in flowing argon gas. Powder X-ray diffraction and FWHM (Full width at half maximum) were used to analyze the phase formation and crystallinity of $MgB_2$. The superconducting transition temperature ($T_c$) and $J_c$ of $MgB_2$ were measured using a magnetic property measurement system (MPMS). It was found that $B_2O_3$ was formed by B milling and the subsequent drying process, and the volume fraction of $B_2O_3$ increased as milling time increased. The $T_c$ of $MgB_2$ decreased with increasing milling time, which was explained in terms of the decreased volume fraction of $MgB_2$, the line broadening of $MgB_2$ peaks and the formation of $B_2O_3$. The $J_c$ at 5 K increased with increasing milling time. The $J_c$ increase is more remarkable at the magnetic field higher than 3 T. The $J_c$ at 5 K and 4 T was the highest as $4.37{\times}10^4A/cm^2$ when milling time was 2 h. The $J_c$ at 20 K also increased with increasing milling time. However, The $J_c$ of the samples with the prolonged milling for 6 and 8 h were lower than that of the non-milled sample.

This study aimed to determine and examine the contents of vitamins $B_1$, $B_2$, and $B_3$ using the high-performance liquid chromatography method in traditional holiday foods in Korea. All analyses were under the quality control chart of vitamins $B_1$, $B_2$, and $B_3$. The z-scores for vitamins $B_1$, $B_2$, and $B_3$ were 1.3, 0.0, and 0.6, respectively, in food analysis performance assessment scheme proficiency tests assuring reliability of analytical performance. Vitamin $B_1$, $B_2$, and $B_3$ contents were analyzed in a total of 31 samples. Vitamin $B_1$, $B_2$, and $B_3$ contents ranged from 0.000 to 0.973 mg/100 g, from 0.037 to 0.264 mg/100 g, and from 0.000 to 1.223 mg/100 g in Korean traditional holiday foods, respectively. The highest contents of vitamins $B_1$, $B_2$, and $B_3$ were 0.973 mg/100 g in Yukwon-jeon, 0.264 mg/100 g in Dongtae-jeon, and 1.223 mg/100 g in Yukwon-jeon sample, respectively. However, compared to vitamins $B_2$ and $B_3$, vitamin $B_1$ was not detected, generally. Therefore, these results can be used as basic data for a food composition table and improvement of national health for Koreans.
We successfully fabricated C-doped ex-situ $MgB_2$ wires using two different methods such as mechanical alloying(MA) and combined process(CP) of in-situ and ex-situ. In the MA, the precursor powder was prepared with a mixture of $MgB_2$ and 1 at% C powders by planetary ball milling for 0-100 h. In the CP, on the other hand, C-doped $MgB_2$ powder was prepared with Mg, B, and C powders by in-situ process via compaction, sintering, and crushing. The powders prepared by two methods were loaded into Fe tube and then the assemblages were drawn by a conventional powder-in-tube technique. The MA treatment of C-added $MgB_2$ decreased the particles/grains size and resulted in C-doping into $MgB_2$ after sintering, improving the critical current density($J_c$) in high external magnetic field. For the C-doped $MgB_2$ wire by MA for 25 h, the $J_c$ was $4.1{\times}10^3A/cm^2$ at 5 K and 6.4 T, which was 5.9 times higher than that of pure and untreated $MgB_2$ wire. The CP also provided C-doping into $MgB_2$ and improved the $J_c$ in high magnetic field; the C-doped $MgB_2$ wire fabricated by CP exhibited a $J_c$ being 2.3 times higher than that of the ex-situ wire used commercial $MgB_2$ powder at 5 K and 6.0 T($2.7{\times}10^3A/cm^2\;vs.\;1.2{\times}10^3A/cm^2$).
This study demonstrates the effect of addition of Fe particles of different sizes on the critical properties of the superconductor $MgB_2$. Bulk $MgB_2$ is synthesized by ball milling Mg and B powders with Fe particles at $900^{\circ}C$. When Fe particles with size less than $10{\mu}m$ are added in $MgB_2$, they easily react with B and form the FeB phase, resulting in a reduction in the amount of the $MgB_2$ phase and deterioration of the crystallinity. Accordingly, both the critical temperature and the critical current density are significantly reduced. On the other hand, when larger Fe particles are added, the $Fe_2B$ phase forms instead of FeB due to the lower reactivity of Fe toward B. Accordingly, negligible loss of B occurs, and the critical properties are found to be similar to those of the intact $MgB_2$.
