Copper nanoparticle-doped and graphitic carbon nanofibers-covered porous carbon beads were used as an efficient catalyst for treating synthetic phenolic water by catalytic wet air oxidation (CWAO) in a packed bed reactor over 10-30 bar and $180-230^{\circ}C$, with air and water flowing co-currently. A mathematical model based on reaction kinetics assuming degradation in both heterogeneous and homogeneous phases was developed to predict reduction in chemical oxygen demand (COD) under a continuous operation with recycle. The catalyst and process also showed complete COD reduction (>99%) without leaching of Cu against a high COD (~120,000 mg/L) containing industrial wastewater.
Purpose: Dentin hypersensitivity is a potential threat to oral health. Laser irradiation may provide reliable and reproducible treatment but remains controversial. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of $CO_2$ or erbium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet (Er:YAG) laser therapy, and to assess mineral content. Methods: Eighteen human single-rooted teeth affected with advanced periodontitis were obtained. Buccal and lingual surfaces were planed to form 36 specimens. Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid gel (24%) was applied to remove the smear layer and simulate hypersensitive teeth. The experimental groups were: group 1, control (no irradiation); group 2, $CO_2$ laser (repetitive pulsed mode, 2 W, $2.7J/cm^2$); and group 3, Er:YAG laser (slight contact mode, 40 mJ/pulse and 10 Hz). To evaluate dentinal tubule occlusion, six specimens per group (2-mm thickness) were prepared and observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for calculation of the occlusion percentage. To evaluate the mineral content, six specimens per group (0.6-mm thickness) were used, and then the levels of Ca, K, Mg, Na, and P were measured by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry. In addition, the surface temperature of the specimens during laser irradiation was analyzed by a thermograph. Results: The SEM photomicrographs indicated melted areas around exposed dentinal tubules and a significantly greater percentage of tubular occlusion in the $CO_2$ and Er:YAG laser groups than the control, and in the Er:YAG group than the $CO_2$ laser group. In addition, no significant differences were noted among the experimental groups for the mineral elements analyzed. The $CO_2$ laser group showed an evident thermal effect compared to the Er:YAG group. Conclusions: $CO_2$ and Er:YAG laser are effective in treating dentin hypersensitivity and reducing its symptoms. However, the Er:YAG laser has a more significant effect; thus, it may constitute a useful conditioning item. Furthermore, neither $CO_2$ nor Er:YAG lasers affected the compositional structure of the mineral content.
Cobalt (Co) compounds have been used for centuries to impart rich blue color to glass, glazes and ceramics. Cobalt monoxide (CoO), an oxide of Co, is an inorganic compound that has long been used as a coloring agent in the ceramic industry. Unlike other coloring agents, CoO can be used to develop colors other than blue, and several factors such as its concentration in the glaze and firing condition have been suggested as possible mechanisms. For example, CoO produces a typical blue color called "cobalt blue" at very low concentrations such as 1 wt% in both oxidation and reduction firing conditions; a higher concentration of CoO (5 wt%) develops a darker blue color under the same firing conditions. Interestingly, CoO also develops a purple color at high concentrations above 10 wt%. In this study, we examined the applicability and mechanism of a novel purple glaze containing cobalt(II, III) oxide, one of the well characterized cobalt oxides. Experimental results show that an Augite crystal isoform (Augite-Fe/Co) in which Fe was replaced with Co is the main component contributing to the formation of the purple color. Based on these results, we developed a glaze using chemically synthesized Augite-Fe/Co crystal as a color pigment. Purple color glaze was successfully developed by the addition of 6~15 wt% of $Co_3O_4$ to magnesia lime.
The M/sub 1-x/Na/sub 2x/Al₂(BO₃)₂O (M = Ca and Sr) solid solution systems have been shown interstitial solid solutions and continuous substitutional solid solutions. The symmetry around the Eu site of yEu/sup 3+/ : M/sub 1-x/Na/sub 2x/Al/sub 2-y/Mg/sub /(BO₃)₂O (M = Ca and Sr) changes the intensities and the chromaticities of transitions. The Eu/sup 3+/ion can be very bright and efficient and have the desired emission wave-length depending on the site symmetry of the Eu/sup 3+/ion site. As the amount of Na in the Eu/sup 3+/ion doped Ca/sub 1-x/Na/sub 2x/Al₂(BO₃)₂O system increases, the Eu site symmetry is going to be a noncentrosymmetric site. With increasing x, the decreased intensity in the /sup 5/D/sub 0/→/sup 7/F₁(590 nm) transition relates to the low symmetry of the Eus/up 3+/-doped Ca/sub 1-x/Na/sub 2x/Al₂(BO₃)₂O system, because of the Ca-centered octahedron in the CaAl₂(BO₃)₂O compound. The SrAl₂(BO₃)₂O compound also provides an improved chromaticity due to the lower site symmetry of Eu/sup 3+/ion.

The ternary semiconducting compounds of the $A_{4}BX_{6}$(A=Cd, Zn, Hg; B=Si, Sn, Ge; X=S, Se, Te) type exhibit strong fluorescence and high photosensitivity in the visible and near infrared ranges, so these are supposed to be materials applicable to photoelectrical devices. These materials were synthesized and single crystals were first grown by Nitsche, who identified the crystal structure of the single crystals. In this paper. author describe the undoped and $Co^{2+}$-doped $Zn_{4}SnSe_{6}$ single crystals were grown by the chemical transport reaction(CTR) method using iodine of $6mg/cm^{3}$ as a transport agent. For the crystal. growth, the temperature gradient of the CTR furnace was kep at $700^{\circ}C$ for the source aone and at $820^{\circ}C$ for the growth zone for 7-days. It was found from the analysis of x-ray diffraction that undoped and $Co^{2+}$-doped $Zn_{4}SnSe_{6}$ compounds have a monoclinic structure. The optical absorption spectra obtained near the fundamental absorption edge showed that these compounds have a direct energy gaps. These temperature dependence of the optical energy gap were closely investigated over the temperature range 10[K]~300[K]
In this paper, investigations of thick film $La_{0.75}Sr_{0.25}Ga_{0.8}Mg_{0.16}Fe_{0.04}O_{3-{\delta}}$ (LSGMF) cells fabricated via spin coating on either NiO-YSZ anode or $La_{0.7}Sr_{0.3}Ga_{0.6}Fe_{0.4}O_3$ (LSGF) cathode substrates are presented. A La-doped $CeO_2$ (LDC) layer is inserted between NiO-YSZ and LSGMF in order to prevent reactions from occurring during co-firing. For the LSGF cathode-supported cell, no interlayer was required because the components of the cathode are the same as those of LSGMF with the exception of Mg. An LSGMF electrolyte slurry was deposited homogeneously on the porous supports via spin coating. The current-voltage characteristics of the anode and cathode supported LSGMF cells at temperatures between $700^{\circ}C$ and $850^{\circ}C$ are described. The LSGF cathode supported cell demonstrates a theoretical OCV and a power density of ~420 mW $cm^2$ at $800^{\circ}C$, whereas the NiO-YSZ anode supported cell with the LDC interlayer demonstrates a maximum power density of ~350 mW $cm^2$ at $800^{\circ}C$, which decreased more rapidly than the cathode supported cell despite the presence of the LDC interlayer. Potential causes of the degradation at temperatures over $700^{\circ}C$ are also discussed.

In this paper, we report highly efficient second harmonic generation of continuous-wave Yb fiber lasers incorporating a periodically poled LiTaO3 device (MgO:PPSLT) as a frequency converter. The seed laser output from a Yb fiber master oscillator using a Fabry-Perot feedback cavity was amplified in a Yb fiber amplifier stage, yielding 28.5 W of linearly polarized output at 1064 nm in a beam with beam quality, M2, of ~1.07. Second harmonic generation was achieved by passing the laser beam through MgO:PPSLT. Under optimized conditions, we obtained 11.1 W of green laser output at 532 nm for an incident signal power of 25.0 W at 1064 nm, corresponding to a conversion efficiency of 44.4%. The detailed investigation to find the optimized operating conditions and prospects for further improvement are discussed.

The a-plane GaN layer on r-plane $Al_2O_3$ substrate is grown by mixed-source hydride vapor phase epitaxy (HVPE). The GaN/InGaN heterostructure is performed by selective area growth (SAG) method. The heterostructure consists of a flown over mixed-sourec are used as gallium (or indium) and nitrogen sources. The gas flow rates of HCl and $NH_3$ are maintained at 10 sccm and 500 sccm, respectively. The temperatures of GaN source zone is $650^{\circ}C$. In case of InGaN, the temperature of source zone is $900^{\circ}C$. The grown temperatures of GaN and InGaN layer are $820^{\circ}C\;and\;850^{\circ}C$, respectively. The EL (electroluminescence) peak of GaN/InGaN heterostructure is at nearly 460 nm and the FWHM (full width at half maximum) is 0.67 eV. These results are demonstrated that the heterostructure of III-nitrides on r-plane sapphire can be successfully grown by mixed-source HVPE with multi-sliding boat system.
The optimum conditions of second harmonic generation (SHG) can be successfully achieved experimentally using single pass and double pass methods of a pumping beam. The beam has a power of several Watts radiated by a DOFA (Diode Laser Oscillator & Fiber Amplifier) system, which is a high power CW wavelength tunable infrared laser system, in a PPLN (Periodically Poled MgO doped Lithium Niobate) nonlinear crystal. In the case of a single pass method, the parameters are the wavelength of 535 nm for SHG and the output power of 245 mW generated from the pumping input beam with wavelength of 1070 nm and the power of 2.45 W at phase matching temperature of $108.9^{\circ}C$. The conversion efficiency of SHG was 10%. In order to enhance the output of SHG, the double pass method of the SHG system of a PPLN using a concave mirror for the retroreflection and a pair of wedged flat windows for phase compensation was also presented. In this double pass system, we obtained the SHG output beam with the wavelength of 535 nm and the maximum power of 383 mW at optimum phase matching temperature of $108.5^{\circ}C$ by using an incident pumping beam with wavelength of 1070 nm and the power of 2.45 W. The maximum conversion efficiency is 15.6%, which is more than that of the single pass method.

A novel $Ce^{3+}$ doped $(Ce_xLu_{1-x})_3MgAl_3SiO_{12}$ phosphor was successfully synthesized by a conventional solid-state reaction. Heat-treatment temperature was controlled from 1250 to $1550^{\circ}C$ for 5 h. XRD and PL properties were analyzed for the optimum heat-treatment condition. Ce doping concentration was varied from 2.0 to 10.0 mol% for the optimum Ce doping concentration. The PL intensity, peak wavelength and FWHM were calculated with the Ce doping concentration, and evaluated for the application to LED packaging. Particle size and morphology were also characterized for synthesized phosphor sample at optimum heat-temperature and Ce doping concentration.
