Health drinks were prepared with freeze dried powder of 60% ethanol extract (60% EFDP), 60% ethanol extract after hydrolysis with amyloglucosidase (60% AEFDP) and 80% ethanol extract (80% EFDP) from roasted safflower seed. Quality characteristics and antioxidative properties were investigated. Yield of freeze dried powders were ranged in $4.67%{\sim}5.62%$. Brix, pH and titratable acidity of safflower drinks were ranged in $11.4{\sim}14.2%$, $2.83{\sim}3.34$ and $0.09{\sim}0.91%$, respectively. Content of total phenolic compounds was much more in 80% EFDP (117 mg/g) and safflower drink-I (SD-I, 440 ppm) than others. Content of total flavonoid was observed in higher level in 60% EFDP (49 mg/g) and safflower drink-V (SD-V, 138 ppm) than others. Antioxidant compounds such as N-[2-(5-hydroxy-1H-indol-3-yl)ethyl]ferulamide(serotonin-I) and N-[2-(5-hydroxy-1H-indol-3yl)ethyl]-p-coumaramide(serotonin-II) exhibited higher contents of 21.09 ppm, 33.56 ppm in 60% EFDP and of 3.83 ppm, 5.81 ppm in safflower drink-II (SD-II) than others. Content of acacetin was much more in 80% EFDP (13.53 ppm) and safflower drink-IV (SD-IV, 1.14 ppm) than others. From the DPPH test to measure antioxidant activity, it was shown that 80% EFDP and SD-I have stronger scavenging activities of 94.58% and 94.88%, respectively, while BHA standard solution does 93.88%. Among drinks, SD-II was revealed to have highest level on overall acceptance, color and flavor through sensory evaluation. These results induced that safflower seed can be used as natural antioxidant and functional food material.

The antimutagenic and cancer cell growth inhibitory effects of woorimil contained herb and seaweed powders were examined. While woorimil itself showed only 40% antimutagenic effect on S. typhymurium TA98 against 4NQO(0.15 g/plate), water extracts of mountain herbs and seweeds including Comfrey, wormwood, Kale, Angelica utilis and pine leaves showed 80~90% antimutagenicity. On the other hand, these extracts along with woorimil showed 68 to 80% antimutagenic activities. Low antimutagenic activities of less than 50% were shown when these extracts were tested on TA98 against Trp P 1(0.5 g/plate), but high antimutagenic activities of 80~93.3% were shown on TA100. Water extracts of Capsella bursa pastoris and Allium grayi exhibited 60~80% of the activites in cytotoxicity tests of woorimil water extracts(0.5mg/ml) on human lung carcinoma cell. A549 showed 10% cell growth inhibitory effect. When mixed with Comfrey and Angelica utilis extracts, it showed 23~25% inhibition and other extracts showed only 12~23% inhibition. Cytotoxicity test of woorimil extracts on human liver cancer cell Hep3B revealed 20% inhibition. The additions of pine needle extracts, Angelica utilis and Comfrey showed 33%, 29% and 25% inhibition, respectively. But other extracts showed only 20% inhibition.
The pressureless sintering behavior of $Al_2O_3$/Cu powder mixtures, prepared from $Al_2O_3$/CuO and $Al_2O_3$/Cu-nitrate, has been investigated. Microstructural observation revealed that $Al_2O_3$ powders with nano-sized Cu particles could be synthesized by hydrogen reduction method. The specimens, pressureless-sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 4 min using infrared heating furnace with the heating rate of $200^{\circ}C$/min, showed the relative density of above 90%. Maximum hardness of 16.1 GPa was obtained in $Al_2O_3$/MgO/Cu nanocomposites. The nanocomposites exhibited the enhanced fracture toughness of 4.3-5.7 $MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$, compared with monolithic $Al_2O_3$. The mechanical properties were discussed in terms of microstructural characteristics.

ABSTRACT-A self-microemulsifying drug delivery system (SMEDDS) was developed to enhance the solubility and dissolution rate of poorly water soluble drug, biphenyl dimethyl dicarboxylate, DDB. The system was optimized by evaluating the solubility of DDB and the microemulsion existence range after the preparation of microemulsions with varying compositions of triacetin and surfactant-cosurfactant mixtures (Labrasol as surfactant (S) and the combination of Transcutol, Cremophor RH 40 and Plurol oleique as cosurfactant (CoS)). SMEDDS in this study markedly improved the solubility of DDB in water up to 10 mg/ml and the size of the o/w microemulsion droplets measured by dynamic light scattering showed a narrow monodisperse size distribution with an average diameter less than 50 nm. The microemulsion existing range is increased proportional to the ratio of S/CoS, however, it decreased remarkably as the oil content was more than 20%. In vitro dissolution study of SMEDDS showed a significantly increased dissolution rate of DDB in water (> 12 fold over DDB powder), and SMEDDS also had significantly greater permeability of DDB in Caco-2 cell compared to powders.
Hybrid $A1_2O_3-TiC$ ceramic particle reinforced 6061 and 5083 Al composite powders were prepared by the combination of twin rolling and stone mill crushing process, followed by consolidating processes of cold compaction, degassing and hot extrusion. The composite bar consists of lamellar structure of ceramic particle rich area and matrix area, in which the hybrid was decomposed into each TiC of about $3-4\mutextrm{m}$ and $AI_2O_3$ particles of about $1-2\mutextrm{m}$ in diameter. It also found that fine $Mg_2Si$ precipitates of about 30 nm were embedded in the matrix, which have grains of about 3 $\mutextrm{m}$. Higher UTS was measured at the 5083 composite bar compared to the conventionally fabricated composite, due to again refinement effect by the rapid solidification. No particle was shown to form in the interface between the matrix and reinforcement, whereas carbon was diffused into the matrix.

In this work, the effect of the addition of bioactive glass in the biocompatibility and mechanical behavior of conventional TTCP/DCPA based bone cement were investigated. The cement was initially modified with chitosan and HPMC which cross-linked with citric acid to improved mechanical properties. The injectable bone substitutes were further modified by adding varying amounts of bioactive glass (0%, 10%, 20% and 30%) and its effects on the biocompatibility of the material were studied. Afterbio-glass powders were mixed with the optimized composition for HPMC and citric acid content, the IBS was incubated at $37^{\circ}C$ at different time intervals and showed progressive formation of HAp with increasing time. Mechanical properties like Vickers hardness and compressive strength were found to increase with the increasing amount of bioactive glass addition and that setting time was shortened. The fabricated IBS morphologies were further characterized using SEM. MTT assay was performed to check the cell cytotoxicity and cell proliferation for 1, 3 and 5 days. Cell morphology, adhesion and proliferation behavior of cell in the IBS by culturing MG-63 cells on the IBS for 20, 60 and 90 mins and 1, 3 and 5 days was also investigated. All the results showed increasing biocompatibility as the bioglass content increased. MTT results found the materials to be cytocompatible and SEM images showed that cells attached and proliferated successfully.

Superconducting YBaCuO thin films were deposited on MgO (100) single crystal substrate by rf reactive sputtering method. Sputtering target was prepared by mixing the original powders of $Y_2O_3$, $BaCO_3$, and CuO at $830^{\circ}C$, and its composition was $YBa_2Cu_{3.3}O_x$ adding the excess CuO to compensate for the loss of Cu in the deposition process. The sputtering conditions for a high quality of YBCO thin film were: substrate temperature of 13$0^{\circ}C$; gas pressure of 10 mTorr; gas mixture ($O_2$: Ar =10: 90); distance of 2.5 inch; and rf power density of 4.87 W /$\textrm{cm}^2$. The deposition rate was 2.4~2.6 nm/min. From the RBS results, it was found that Cu and Ba contents in thin films decreased with the increase of substrate temperature. The increase of gas pressure resulted in significant deficiency of Ba elements.

The effects of high energy ball-milling (HEBM) on the sintering behavior and piezoelectric properties of 0.1 wt% $Li_2CO_3$ doped 0.8Pb($Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}$)$O_3$-0.2Pb($Zr_{0.475}Ti_{0.525}$)$O_3$ (PMN-PZT) ceramics were investigated. It was found that HEBM treatment was quite effective to reduce the average particle size down to 300 nm, leading to increased density as well as enhanced piezoelectric properties of a sintered specimen even though prolonged HEBM resulted in unwanted secondary phases that caused a degradation of piezoelectric properties. The dielectric constant ($\varepsilon_r$), piezoelectric coupling factor ($k_p$) and piezoelectric constant $d_{33}$ of 0.1 wt% $Li_2CO_3$ doped PMN-PZT ceramics prepared via HEBM for 10 h reached 2040, 0.68 and 554 pC/N, respectively.
This study was carried out to investigate the quality characteristics and storage of wet noodle with added Cheonnyuncho powder. Wet noodles were prepared at concentration of 1, 3, and 5%(w/w) of the fruit based on flour weight. Moisture content of the noodles with or without Cheonnyuncho powder was 34~36%. Ca, K, Mg, Fe, Mn and Zn contents of Cheonnyuncho noodle were increased at increasing concentrations of Cheonnyuncho powder. Cooked weight, volume, and water absorption decreased with increased fruit powder, whereas turbidity increased. For hunter's color values of noodles, L(lightness) and b(yellowness) values decreased with increasing concentration of Cheonnyuncho powder, whereas a(redness) value increased. For mechanical characteristics of the noodles, adhesiveness, cohesiveness, chewiness, elasticity, and brittleness of cooked noodle with Cheonnyuncho powder were lower than those of control. The pH of Cheonnyuncho noodle was lower than that of control during storage. Bacterial counts of wet noodle with 1% and 3% fruit powders were lower than those of the control and 5% fruit powder on the 8th day of storage at $5^{\circ}C$. From the sensory evaluation, texture, taste, and overall preference were not significantly different between the control and fruit group, but the color of 5% Cheonnyuncho noodle was significantly higher than that of control (p<0.05). In conclusion, the results of this study suggest that the addition of 1% and 3% Cheonnyuncho powder in combination with flour tended to improve antimicrobial effects during storage when compared to control.
In this study, high purity fine $BaTiO_3$ powders were prepared by SHS (Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis). We would examinate the study of sintering properties and characteristics as a function of temperature with various additives (binder, sintering agent). In separately binder addition, the green and sintered density of specimen were increased as binder content increases. The increased porosity resulted in fine grain size due to the inhibition of grain boundary moving. The $Al_{2}O_{3},\;TiO_{2}$ and MgO playa role of increasing dielectric constants at room temperature. These values were decreased at curie temperature. In case of $SiO_2$, the Curie temperature was decreased. In this study, a high dielectric ceramic capacitor material with temperature stability was synthesized by using various additives.
