Purpose The purpose of this study is to analyze the current state of grounded theory methodology in Korea information systems studies and to suggest its application strategies. Design/methodology/approach After reviewing previous studies, this study reviewed 16 papers which adopted grounded theory methodology and analyzed these papers by two ways, research contents and methods adopted from grounded theory methodology: Main characteristics in grounded theory methodology are selected as main criteria in analysis such as data collection method, constant comparison, software use, coding ways, suggested model, proposition suggestion etc., while subject, theory/practice orientation, and role of prior knowledge are included in research contents. Findings Based on the review and analysis, this paper suggested four guidelines for adopting grounded theory methodology to information systems research in Korea: First, division of research methodology into stages. Second, explicit documentation of research process. Third, pursuit of diversity in research topics. Fourth, strengthening scale up and theoretical integration.

Quantitative methodology has been the predominent methodology utilized in research in nursing. However since the 1970s qualitative methodology has also emerged as a useful methodology and has been utilized by many researchers. But in the use of this methodology, the philosophical, epistemelogical, and theoretical backgrounds have been neglected by many researchers. This paper reports a review of the literature on methodologies, quanitative and qualitative, used in nursing, and makes suggestions for future research directions. It explains why qualitative methodology has emerged as as effective methodology in nursing and discusses how the qualitative methodology differs from the quanitative one. A comparison of the two is made based on perspectives of humane being and human behavior as well as the development of nursing science. This paper also presents several views on change in nursing science, since viewpoint not only influences the determination of the current stage of nursing science but also the shaping of the future directions of nursing science and research. Scientific revolution by Kuhn, the evolutionary perspective by Toulmin, the transition of research tradition by Laudan. and convolutionary processes are presented. However, this paper indicates that it is too early to adopt these points of view, because the history of nursing science is too short. It suggests that nursing needs pluralism in philosophy, paradigms and theory, as well as in methodology. Although we experience paradoxes in adopting different perspectives in nursing, it is wise for us to continue to include a variety of viewpoints including those to which we are not accustomed, such as qualitative methodology, since we are not yet able to decide what is best for the development of nursing science.

Family and child educators have an obligation to ensure that their students understand, conceptually and pragmatically, the major research methods. The purpose of this study was to develop a qualitative methodology course for graduate students majoring in family and child studies. Three stages of course development were followed; investigating how methodology courses are offered in family and child studies, discussing what topics and components should be covered in a qualitative methodology course, and planning how the topics and components should be taught. The proposed qualitative methodology course includes; understanding philosophical and theoretical frameworks, teaming the general process of a qualitative research, comparing different qualitative traditions of inquiry, discussing emerging issues related to qualitative research, and conducting experimental field work. This study can provide an academic syllabus for family and child educators, who are interested in teaching a qualitative methodology course for graduate students.

Research issues in software engineering in recent may be object oriented methodology and software quality. Since Halstead has proposed metric-software science in 1977, software quality area has been studied in steady but inactively until 1980s. As international standards such as ISO 9000-3, 9126 were enacted in 1990s early, interest in software quality is increased but many problems such as how to validate metric, measure quality or apply metric are remained. This paper proposes software quality metric methodology which software developer or project manager can use in measuring quality and validating metric during software development. The methodology is classified by several phases: establishment of quality requirement, identification of quality metric, data collection, metric implementation, metric validation. In order to show its applicability, test program, metrics and data are applied to each phase of the methodology. Consideration of this methodology as a methodology for software quality measurement similar to development methodology for software development is needed.

Qualitative research methodology has been applied with increasing frequency in various fields, including in healthcare research, where quantitative research methodology has traditionally dominated, with an empirically driven approach involving statistical analysis. Drawing upon artifacts and verbal data collected from in-depth interviews or participatory observations, qualitative research examines the comprehensive experiences of research participants who have experienced salient yet unappreciated phenomena. In this study, we review 6 representative qualitative research methodologies in terms of their characteristics and analysis methods: consensual qualitative research, phenomenological research, qualitative case study, grounded theory, photovoice, and content analysis. We mainly focus on specific aspects of data analysis and the description of results, while also providing a brief overview of each methodology's philosophical background. Furthermore, since quantitative researchers have criticized qualitative research methodology for its perceived lack of validity, we examine various validation methods of qualitative research. This review article intends to assist researchers in employing an ideal qualitative research methodology and in reviewing and evaluating qualitative research with proper standards and criteria.

This research is planned to compare a quantitative methodology and a qualitative methodology in the study of the household work. For these research tasks this study is centered on husbands' participation in the household work. First it is reviewed study precedent using a quantitative method and a qualitative method to compare a research methodology of the household work. It is selected a survey method of quantitative methodology and a depth interview of qualitative methodology, Second the data are collected through the questionnaire and the depth interview with three couples,. Third to compare a quantitative methodology and a qualitative methodology it is looked about problems in the concept the grouping the collection of data and the interpretation of household work.

Objectives : In this paper, characteristics of research methodology used in the field of Korean Medical Classics and its application was studied, with a focus on abductive reasoning that takes place in such methodology. Methods : First, the properties of the Korean Medical knowledge system, production, circulation and consumption of Korean Medical knowledge, methodology of knowledge production, reasoning of hypothesis, Medical Classics research methodology and its examples were examined. Afterwards, the relationship between Medical Classics research and Korean Medical Doctors's competence was studied. Results : The knowledge system of Korean Medicine, formed by a knowledge production group changes continuously not unlike a living organism. Knowledge is produced through Sang (象) within human consciousness that lies in an existential relationship between the knowledge producer and subject, through means of abductive reasoning. Conclusions : Creative knowledge production through abductive reasoning in the field of Korean Medical Classics will hopefully contribute to production of highly useful knowledge in clinical settings, complement and make change in the current Korean Medical knowledge system. Various teaching methods based on this research methodology will contribute to strengthening Korean Medical Doctors's competence as well.

The IAEA launched the International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles (INPRO) and developed the INPRO Methodology to provide guidelines and to assess the characteristics of a future innovative nuclear energy system in areas such as safety, economics, waste management, and proliferation resistance. The proliferation resistance area of the INPRO Methodology is reviewed here, and modifications for further improvements are proposed. The evaluation metrics including the evaluation parameters, evaluation scales and acceptance limits are developed for a practical application of the methodology to assess the proliferation resistance. The proliferation resistant characteristics of the DUPIC fuel cycle are assessed by applying the modified INPRO Methodology based on the developed evaluation metrics and acceptance criteria. The evaluation procedure and the metrics can be utilized as a reference for an evaluation of the proliferation resistance of a future innovative nuclear energy system.

Although scholars have been using qualitative research commonly since 1990 in Korea, discussions on the criteria for the quality of qualitative research have been rare. The purpose of this paper was to analyze the trends of qualitative research methodology in Family Studies, and critically examine qualitative research articles published in the three most prominent journals in the field of family studies. The three journals were Journal of Korean Home Management Association, Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association, and Journal of Family Relations. During the period from 1998 to 2003, twenty seven published articles were identified as qualitative research articles from the three journals. Qualitative research in family studies had a wide variety of purposes, but the articles shared similar characteristics: the main goal was to understand the nature of the research participants' experiences and perspectives. The common data collection techniques were in-depth interview, journal writing, and document analysis. Also, all research articles had applied various techniques to data analysis such as grounded theory, or van Manen's method. This article also discussed the usefulness of qualitative research methodology in broadening and deepening the knowledge body in Korean Family Studies.

This study shows a comprehensive survey of literatures in international trades in services. It is true that most research works in international trade have been focusing on commodity trades but relatively not many works have been done on international services trade study. This paper discusses a research framework of international services in trades research and suggests some recommendations for future research. The study shows that most of the research works so far have been at initial stage of maturity and as a result not many strategic types of studies are not reported in this field. The main reason is that the research methodology for international trades in services is weak though the opportunity being large. Therefore, future research has to be made to enhance the research methodology study in the international trades in services.
