  • In this study, employing an interview survey, the progress orientation of flood management is established, and a framework and process for sustainable flood management in a river basin's context are developed to effectively achieve its goals and objectives. The Interview survey about flood management shows that to reduce flood damage, it is necessary to subdue injudicious man-made developments, to make systematic long-term plans, and to consistently implement them. In the framework, the goal is established as minimizing flood damage and building resilience against flooding, and an implementing methodology is developed, integrating five elements: integrated flood management, flood risk management, integrated watershed management, participatory decision-making process, and adaptive management. Also, evaluating the state of flood management in river basins' context is incorporated into the framework, and the evaluation results are fed back to the goal and the methodology. To effectively implement flood management, an adaptive flood management process is developed, reflecting the results of the interview survey. In this process, the participation of the persons concerned is secured, the state of flood management are evaluated periodically, and measures appropriate to the specific sites are selected and are adaptively carried out.

  • Uncertainty and variability in Life Cycle Assessment(LCA) have been significant key issues in LCA methodology with techniques in other research area such as social and political science. Variability is understood as stemming from inherent variations in the real world, while uncertainty comes from inaccurate measurements, lack of data, model assumptions, etc. Related articles in this issues were reviewed for classification, distinguish and elaboration of probabilistic/stochastic health risk analysis application in LCA. Concept of focal zone, streamlining technique, scenario modelling and Monte Carlo/Latin Hypercube risk analysis were applied to the uncertainty/variability analysis of health risk in LCA. These results show that this general framework of multi-disciplinary methodology between probabilistic health risk assessment and LCA was of benefit to decision making process by suppling information about input/output data sensitivity, health effect priority and health risk distribution. There should be further research needs for case study using this methodology.

  • Recently, as concerns about environmental improvement have increased, various environmentally friendly transportation services have been developed and introduced. However, the effect on the introduction of such services has been not analyzed through a systematic methodology and process. Therefore, this research aims at suggesting a framework to analyze the effect of an environmentally friendly transportation service and investigating the validity of the framework. To the ends, a process to analyze the degree of improvement in transportation systems and environments, the linkage with existing policies, and profitability of the service is proposed. In addition, the concept and value of carsharing service, a representative environmentally friendly transportation service are explained and then the effects of the service are examined in terms of the aforementioned analytic areas, respectively. The results of this research can be utilized to provide the validity of a newly developed environmentally friendly transportation service and reflected to the policies of transportation and environment.

  • The development and implementation of an appropriate methodology for the accurate geometric description of track models is proposed in the framework of multibody dynamics and it includes the representation of the track spatial geometry and its irregularities. The wheel and rail surfaces are parameterized to represent any wheel and rail profiles obtained from direct measurements or design requirements. A fully generic methodology to determine, online during the dynamic simulation, the coordinates of the contact points, even when the most general three dimensional motion of the wheelset with respect to the rails is proposed. This methodology is applied to study specific issues in railway dynamics such as the flange contact problem and lead and lag contact configurations. A formulation for the description of the normal contact forces, which result from the wheel-rail interaction, is also presented. The tangential creep forces and moments that develop in the wheel-rail contact area are evaluated using : Kalker linear theory ; Heuristic force method ; Polach formulation. The methodology is implemented in a general multibody code. The discussion is supported through the application of the methodology to the railway vehicle ML95, used by the Lisbon metro company.

  • Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a new trend for the design of application architecture to enhance the degree of share and reuse with the concept of service. It comes from the current situation where the business environments are changing rapidly and therefore competitions are getting bitter. To cope with such business challenges, business (and/or applications) architecture needs considerably flexibility and reusability, and that's why SOA is accepted as one of the most effective framework for the business applications in these days. In this paper we propose an analysis and design methodology for the applications of SOA. To implement the proposed methodology, the service ontology needs to be defined first, and the tasks such as service profiling, workflow design and service orchestration need to be followed. To validate the expected effects on flexibility and reusability, the proposed methodology was compared with CBD (Component Based Development).

  • Purpose: This paper presents a framework development for BIM (Building Information Modeling)-based OOPM (Object-Oriented Physical Modeling) for Building Thermal Simulation. The framework facilitates decision-making in the design process by integrating two object-oriented modeling approaches (BIM and OOPM) and efficiently providing object-based thermal simulation results into the BIM environment. Method: The framework consists of a system interface between BIM and OOPM-based building energy modeling (BEM) and the visualization of simulation results for building designers. The interface enables a BIM models to be translated into OOPM-based BEM automatically and the thermal simulation from the created BEM model immediately. The visualization module enables the simulation results to be presented in BIM for building designers to comprehend the relationships between design decisions and the building performances. For the framework implementation, we utilized the Modelica Buildings Library developed by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as a thermal simulation solver. We also conducted an experiment to validate the framework simulation results and demonstrate our framework. Result: This paper demonstrates a new methodology to integrate BIM and OOPM-based BEM for building thermal simulation, which enables an automatic translation BIM into OOPM-based BEM with high efficiency and accuracy.

  • Current many software development projects gradually develop large volume of complex and changeable system. Architecture driven methodology is used for developing softwares like CBD (Component Based Development) or PLE (Product Line Engineering). To improve the development and maintainability in such an environment, the first of all needs the flexible and extensible architecture. This paper suggests the CBD application framework that has the flexbile and extensible architecture for improving development productivity and maintainability. In this paper, we also show basic performances of our suggested framework, comparing to a well-known web application framework, Struts.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this research is to develop two medical tourism system models which explain medical tourism phenomenon with a systemic approach. Methodology/Approach: This research was conducted using a qualitative data analysis which mainly refer previous references in relation to medical tourism in the areas of tourism and medicine. Leiper's tourism system model was utilized as a conceptual framework. In-depth interviews with experts in the area were attempted in order to pretest the models. Findings: This research suggests a medical tourism system framework and a medical service provision framework. The first model presents medical tourism components and their relationships within a framework presented in a diagram. The second model shows the relationships among medical services required by medical tourists, the service providers, and service human resources along with movements of medical tourists. Practical Implications: The first model presents a spatial composition of medical tourism components and their relationships, whereas the second model shows the linkage among medical services, the service providers, and relevant service human resources along with time sequential steps of medical tourists. These two models are complementary and may be used as useful tools to observe medical tourism phenomenon with a systemic and holistic approach. These two models may enable stake holders avoid unnecessary confusions and conflicts that result in duplication of government policies and a waste of budget and human resources.

  • This study proposes and demonstrates the value of user - centered design methodology based on linguistic analysis. The results of the proposed user behavioural analysis framework suggested that the syntactic structure between the sentence structure and its components could be a logical basis for explaining the user's situation and behavior. Based on this, the definitions and classifications of user interactions and user contexts were conducted in a microscopically context. User behavior has also been established to identify pattern structures of purposeful nature and constitutes a user behavior sequence that prioritizes them. Next, the User Experience Analysis Framework was derived by defining the relationship between User Behavior and User Behavior and User Context and User Context. To verify the framework of the framework, a professional assessment was conducted to conduct a review of the user's experience and conduct a study of the framework of the framework and conduct of the framework of the framework of the framework and practical utility of the framework. Through this, it was possible to identify the value of the qualitative and quantitative framework of the framework and the future direction of development.
