Comparison of Automatic Calibration for a Tank Model with Optimization Methods and Objective Functions

  • Two global optimization methods, the SCE-UA method and the Annealing-simplex (A-S) method for calibrating a daily rainfall-runoff model, a Tank model, was compared with that of the Downhill Simplex method. The performance of the four objective functions, DRMS (daily root mean square), HMLE (heteroscedastic maximum likelihood estimator), ABSERR (mean absolute error), and NS (Nash-Sutcliffe measure), was tested and synthetic data and historical data were used. In synthetic data study. 100% success rates for all objective functions were obtained from the A-S method, and the SCE-UA method was also consistently able to obtain good estimates. The downhill simplex method was unable to escape from local optimum, the worst among the methods, and converged to the true values only when the initial guess was close to the true values. In the historical data study, the A-S method and the SCE-UA method showed consistently good results regardless of objective function. An objective function was developed with combination of DRMS and NS, which putted more weight on the low flows.

  • 본 연구에서 제안하는 혼합 방법(hybrid method)은 흐름이 우세한 영역에서의 전송 문제를 정확하고 효과적으로 해결하기 위하여 개발된 것으로 오일러-라그란쥐적 방법과는 달리 전방추적에 의하여 이송 과정이 수행되므로 보간 기법이 불필요하고 무작위 행보에 의한 라그란쥐적 방법과 달리 유한 차분법에 의하여 확산 과정이 수행되므로 많은 입자가 요구되지도 않는다. 한 점에 순간적으로 부하되는 오염원과 연속적으로 부하되는 오염원에 대한 이론적인 해와 비교하여 확산 계수와 무관하게 상당히 만족할 만한 결과를 얻었다. 현 방법은 또한 2차원 상에서 주변 5격자로부터 보간하는 오일러-라그란쥐적 방법과 무작위 행보로 입자 추적하는 순수 라그란쥐적 방법과 비교하여 정확성은 물론 계산 시간에 있어서도 상당히 월등한 방법임이 입증되었다.

  • 계통연계형 PV 시스템의 중요한 보호기능인 단독운전 검출기능은 시스템의 안전성 및 전기적 안정성 측면에서 매우 중요하다. 단독운전 검출기법으로는 크게 수동적 방식과 능동적 방식으로 분류되는 다양한 기법들이 있다. 본 연구에서는 IEEE 929-2000에서 제시하는 단독운전 시험조건 하에서 현재 널리 사용되는 능동적 방식 중 무효전력 변동 방식(RPV method)과 능동적 주파수 변동 방식(AFD method)을 채용한 시스템의 연계점에서 주파수 변동 특성을 해석하였다. 그리고 해석결과를 바탕으로 RPV 방식 및 AFD 방식의 설계법을 제시하였다. EMTP를 이용한 시스템 시뮬레이션을 통하여 제안된 해석 및 설계법의 타당성 및 유효성을 검증하였다.

공기 중 석면표준시료를 이용한 전처리 방법 비교 연구 (Comparative study of clearing methods for air-borne asbestos analysis)

  • Objectives: Acetone/triacetine method for clearing cellulose ester membrane (CEM) filter has been a popular method for air-borne asbestos analysis. However, as a weakness of this method, it is time consuming to analyses asbestos samples after sampling. Crystalclear method can be used to analyses asbestos samples promptly after sampling. Although a strength of crystal clear method exists, there was little valid studied for the method. This study was conducted to compare acetone/triacetine method with crystalclear one for analysing asbestos sample. Methods: Test samples made in three different concentration ranges(low, medium and high concentration) were analysed by phase contrast microscopy after acetone/triacetine and crystalclear method treatment respectively. Results: We did not find statistical difference in analysed results between two methods, which were conducted in three different concentrations ranges. Conclusions: We concluded that crystalclear method can be used as clearing method for air-borne asbestos analysis instead of acetone/triacetine method.

Displacement prediction in geotechnical engineering based on evolutionary neural network

  • It is very important to study displacement prediction in geotechnical engineering. Nowadays, the grey system method, time series analysis method and artificial neural network method are three main methods. Based on the brief introduction, the three methods are analyzed comprehensively. Their merits and demerits, applied ranges are revealed. To solve the shortcomings of the artificial neural network method, a new prediction method based on new evolutionary neural network is proposed. Finally, through two real engineering applications, the analysis of three main methods and the new evolutionary neural network method all have been verified. The results show that, the grey system method is a kind of exponential approximation to displacement sequence, and time series analysis is linear autoregression approximation, while artificial neural network is nonlinear autoregression approximation. Thus, the grey system method can suitably analyze the sequence, which has the exponential law, the time series method can suitably analyze the random sequence and the neural network method almostly can be applied in any sequences. Moreover, the prediction results of new evolutionary neural network method is the best, and its approximation sequence and the generalization prediction sequence are all coincided with the real displacement sequence well. Thus, the new evolutionary neural network method is an acceptable method to predict the measurement displacements of geotechnical engineering.

Improvement and Application for Environmental Conservation Value Assessment Map(ECVAM) of Nationwide Land in Korea

  • This study is aiming at improving the Environmental Conservation Value Assessment Map(ECVAM) of National Land in Korea. The ECVAM items are composed of legal and environmental/ecological assessments. A popular method applied to ECVAM is an overlay environmental/ecological assessment items. The purpose of this study is to offer complementary items of the ECVAM by examining assessment items. In this study we assessed the ECVAM by five methods. Method 1 is Grade 1 areas of each administrative district; Method 2 is comparing overlapped areas of each assessment items Grade 1, 2 and permission of each assessment items duplication; Method 3 is Grade 1, 2 areas by only singular assessment items; Method 4 is Grade 1 areas only of Method 2; and Method 5 is Grade 2 areas only of Method 2. Method 1 showed Seoul and other metropolitan cities revealed a large proportion of Grade I regions by the legal assessment items. Gang won-Do, showed a large proportion of Grade I regions by the environmental/ecological assessment item. Method 2 showed 93.4% of diameter Grade II(standard for stability); forest diameter item accounted for 99.9% by Method 3, Method 4 showed 95.7% of forest diameter, and forest density accounted for 66.4% by Method 5. This study contributes to reduce the complexity in the process of manufacturing ECVAM of National Land, and to raise the flexibility in the process of managing and updating this map.

TGA를 이용한 Chlorinated Poly Vinyl Chloride(CPVC)의 활성화 에너지 평가 (Evaluation of the Activation Energy of Chlorinated Poly Vinyl Chloride (CPVC) Using Thermogravimetric Analysis)

  • 열중량 분석법(TGA)을 이용하여 소방용 합성수지 배관으로 사용되는 CPVC의 활성화 에너지를 측정하였다. 열중량 분석법을 이용한 활성화 에너지는 Kissinger method와 Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method를 이용하여 계산하였다. 활성화 에너지를 계산한 결과 Kissinger method에 의해 128.07 kJ/mol, Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method에 의해 145.60 kJ/mol로 나타났다. Kissinger method와 Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method에 의해 계산된 활성화 에너지의 차이는 해석 방법이 다르다는 점을 감안했을 때 큰 차이가 없다고 판단된다. 향후 가속열화을 이용한 열적 열화평가 및 공기오븐노화시험을 통한 CPVC의 연소특성을 시험하고, 수명을 예측하고자 한다.

Comparison of results between modified-Angoff and bookmark methods for estimating cut score of the Korean medical licensing examination

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to apply alternative standard setting methods for the Korean Medical Licensing Examination (KMLE), a criterion-referenced written examination, and to compare them to the conventional cut score used on the KMLE. Methods: The process and results of criterion-referenced standard settings (i.e., the modified-Angoff and bookmark methods) were evaluated. The ratio of passing and failing examinees determined using these alternative standard setting methods was compared to the results of the conventional criteria. Additionally, the external, internal and procedural evaluation of these methods were reviewed. Results: The modified-Angoff method yielded the highest cut score, followed sequentially by the conventional method and the bookmark method. The classification agreement between the modified-Angoff and bookmark methods was 0.720 measured by Cohen's ${\kappa}$ coefficient. The intra-panelist classification consistency of modified-Angoff method was higher than bookmark method. However, the inter-panelist classification consistency was vice versa. The standard setting panelists' survey results showed that the procedures of both methods were satisfactory, but panelists had more confidence in the results of the modified-Angoff method. Conclusion: The modified-Angoff method showed results that were more similar to those of the conventional method. Both new methods showed very high concordance with the conventional method, as well as with each other. The modified-Angoff method was considered feasible for adoption on the KMLE. The standard setting panelists responded positively to the modified-Angoff method in terms of its practical applicability, despite certain advantages of the bookmark method.

남성 재킷의 접착 제작방식과 비접착 제작방식 비교 - 30~49세 남성 재킷을 중심으로 - (Comparison of adhesive and non-adhesive manufacturing methods of men's jacket - Focusing on men's jacket aged 30 to 49 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the production of jackets with high fit by comparing and analyzing the adhesive and non-adhesive production methods of men's jackets. An analysis of the manufacturing method showcased differences between the adhesive and non-adhesive manufacturing methods in the cutting and wick attachment method, the shape and attachment method of the chest reinforcing wick, the sleeve attachment method, and the shoulder pad and sleeve reinforcing cloth attachment method. In evaluating the outfit, the overall fit of the shoulder, the fit of the chest, and the fit of the armpit were found to be high in the non-adhesive production method. In evaluating appearance evaluation, the front shoulder, chest, and sleeve overall appearance showed a high non-adhesive production method. Therefore, in order to increase the wearability of the shoulder pad and the the attachment method of the upper sleeve reinforcing cloth, the non-adhesive production method should be used, and in order to increase the overall wearability and armpit wear of the chest, the difference in the attachment method, and the reinforcement method of the armhole should be used. In addition, to increase the appearance of the jacket, non-adhesive production methods such as differences in wick attachment methods, shoulder pads, sleeve reinforcing cloth, and sleeve attachment methods should be used.

능동포집법과 확산포집법에 의한 작업환경 중 포름알데히드 농도 비교 (Comparison of formaldehyde concentration in working environment between passive sampling method and impinger sampling method)

  • The purpose of this study was conducted to ascertain the difference between impinger and passive sampling methods in the process of sampling and analyzing on airborne formaldehyde. Formaldehyde generating workplaces included in this study comprised four types of manufacturing industry such as two workplaces of products of wood, cork, straw and plaiting materials manufacturing industries, one casting metal manufacturing industry, and one parts and accessories for motor vehicles and it′s engines manufacturing industry. Workplaces contained in this study were located in some manufacturing area of Busan industrial complex and this study was carried out during a period from January 2003 to December 2004. Analytical accuracy, precision and detection limit of two methods was compared. Exposure level of its airborne concentration was evaluated in formaldehyde generating workplaces those were classified by types of industry, working process, and time. The results were as follows ; 1. A rate of recovery was 107.1% in impinger method and 101.8% in passive method, and precision was 7.79% in impinger method and 4.40% in passive method. There was no statistical significance in analytical accuracy and precision between two methods. A limitation of detection was 0.011 ppm in passive method which was lower than that of impinger method (0.020 ppm) by 1.8 times. 2. Airborne formaldehyde concentration of impinger method was different from passive method. It′s concentration by passive method was higher by 5.1 times than that by impinger method in the parts and accessories for motor vehicles and it′s engines manufacturing industry (P<0.05). Only in molding process among several types of processes, formaldehyde concentration in passive method was higher by 5.1 times than that in impinger method (P<0.05). Furthermore, formaldehyde concentration in passive method was higher by 1.7 times than that in impinger method (P<0.05) in the first half of year 2003. 3. The geometric mean of formaldehyde concentration in impinger method was lower than that in passive method, but there was no statistical significance of formaldehyde concentration by the difference of sampling method. In conclusion, it is difficult to conclude which is better between the two sampling methods because of no statistical significance for the difference of concentration. Because of lacks of certified passive sampling and analytical method, at present situation, studies on verification of accuracy and precision, obstructive reaction against validity on its exposure assessment, and research to develop domestically manufactured passive sampler in terms of cost-effectiveness should be continuously carried out.
