We developed a compact, 10 kWe, purifier-integrated reformer which supplies hydrogen for fuel cell vehicles. Our proprietary technologies regarding hydrogen purification by palladium alloy membrane and catalytic combustion by noble metal coated wire-mesh catalyst were combined with the conventional methanol steam reforming technology, resulting in higher conversion, excellent quality of product hydrogen, and better thermal efficiency than any other systems. In this system, steam reforming, hydrogen purification, and catalytic combustion take place all in a single reactor so that the whole system is compact and easy to operate. The module produces $8.2Nm^3/hr$ of 99.999% or higher purity hydrogen with CO impurity less than 10 ppm, which is equivalent to 10 kWe when PEMFC has 45 % efficiency. Thermal efficiency of the module is 81 % and the power density of the module is 1.6 L/kWe. As the results of experiments, cold-start time has been measured about 20 minutes. Response time of hydrogen production to the change of the feed rate has been within 1 minutes.

Abstract Urea($(NH_2)_2CO$) and THAMP (Tris(hydroxymethyl) aminomethane phosphate) are new organic nonlinear optical materials (NLO) for the device application such as the frequency conversion of laser radiation. The single crystals of urea and THAMP have been grown by the falling temperature method and the temperature difference method. The crystal growth parameters were presented associated with the molphology of the grown crystals. Based on the solubility measurements, methanol was a suitable solvent for the growth of urea. The solubilities of urea have a positive temperature coefficient and the heat of solution of urea was estimated to be -2.58 kcal/mol. The grown crystals of urea have the preferential growth habit in the z-axis. Additives such as $NH_4_H_2PO_4$, KCL, $H_3PO_4$, $CaCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$, $C_2H_5OH$ were used for the favourable growth in the x - and y-axis and the preventive growth in the z-axis. The moleratio of THAM and H3P04 for the solution of THAMP was 1 : 1. The solubilities of THAMP have a positive temperature coefficient. The heat of solution was estimated to be - 1.70 kcal/ mol.
Samultang is one of traditional medicine composed of Paeonia lactiflora, Angelica gigas, Rehmannia glutinosa and Cnidium officinale. To develop simultaneous determination of paeoniflorin, decursin and 5-HMF in Samultang, a high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector was used. To separate three marker components, Dionex $C_{18}$ column (5 ${\mu}m$, 120 ${\AA}$, 4.6 mm${\times}$150 mm) was used with a gradient elution system of water and methanol. UV wavelength of detector set at 230 nm and 280 nm. This method was validated by linearity, precision test and recovery test. Calibration curves of three standard components were showed good linear regression ($R^2$>0.9973). LOD and LOQ ranged from 0.08 ${\mu}g$/ml to 0.38 ${\mu}g$/ml and 0.25 ${\mu}g$/ml to 1.16 ${\mu}g$/ml, respectively. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) of data of the inter-day and intra-day experiments were less than 0.54% and 0.89%, respectively. The measured results of recovery test were varied from 93.36 to 107.79 with RSD values 0.01~1.45%. The established method was applied for separation of bio-conversion Samultang sample and compared with control sample.
The behavior of a one-step fixed bed reactor which directly synthesizes dimethyl ether(DME) from Natural Gas was simulated. In the reactor, the prevention of the occurrence of hot spots which can cause deactivation of catalysts is pivotal, since methanol synthesis and dehydration reaction involved in the synthesis of DME are highly exothermic. Therefore, we simulated and compared performance of the reactor with counter-current cooling and pool boiling system that can be applied to a commercial plant. As a result, we found that counter-current cooling system is more effective in terms of CO conversion and DME productivity. However, pool boiling system can operate in a small temperature gradient that can decrease problems caused by hot spot. And, the system can operate in a safer range.

The amount of biogas increases as the amount of organic waste increases. Recently, biogas from organic waste have been made much efforts to utilize as a energy. In particular, the concentration of $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ generated from sewage sludge and livestock manure treatment are 60-70% and 30-35%, and $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ generated from food wastes are 60-80% and 20-40%. In case of landfill gas, $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ have a concentration of 40-60% and 40-60% respectively. Therefore, in order to use the biogas more widely, it is necessary to convert the biogas to methanol, LNG or DME. In this study, experiments were conducted to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide through various biogas reforming reactions on $Ni/Ce-ZrO_2/Al2O3$ catalysts. The experiment of synthetic gas synthesis was carried out on a wide concentrations of methane and carbon dioxide, which were the major constituents of biogas from various organic wastes. The effect of $(O_2+CO_2)/CH_4$ (=R') on the yields of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, the conversion rate of methane and carbon dioxide was investigated. Also simulation for syngas synthesis on the $CO_2$ reforming of $CH_4$ was computed by employing total Gibbs free energy minimization method using PRO/II simulator, and compared with the experimental results on wet and dry reforming reaction of biogas.
Objective : his study was carried out to investigate the effect of Dansameum (DS) on the gastrohemorrhagic lesion induced by ammonia in rats. Methods : Rats were pretreated with DS extract 25 mg/kg for 10 days and then were given amonia through gastric tube. The animals were killed 1 hr after amonia treatment. Results : DS extract siginificantly reduced the gastrohemorrhagic lesion score, the gastric lipid peroxide level, the gastric urease activity, the gastric myeloperoxidase activity, the gastric acid phosphatase activity, xanthine oxidase activity and type conversion, and increased the gastric glutathione level considerably. In photomicrographs of stomach tissue in rat, we could see the gastrohemorrhagic lesion induced clearly. conclusions : These results suggest that DS extract may be effective in peptic ulcer.

Performance tests on $Ni/Ce-ZrO_2/Al_2O_3$ catalysts with additives (MgO, $La_2O_3$) were investigated in the combined reforming processes (SCR, ATR, TRM) in order to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide (it is called "syngas".). The catalyst characterization was conducted using the BET surface analyzer, X-ray diffraction (XRD), SEM, TPR and TGA. The combined reforming process was developed to adjust the syngas ratio depending on the synthetic fuel (methanol, DME and GTL) manufacturing processes. Ni-based catalysts supported on alumina has been generally recommended as a combined reforming reaction catalyst. It was found that both free NiO and complexed NiO species were responsible for the catalytic activity in the combined reforming of methane conversion, and the $Ce-ZrO_2$ binary support employed had improved the oxygen storage capacity and thermal stability. The additives, MgO and $La_2O_3$, also seemed to play an important role to prevent the formation of the carbon deposition over the catalysts. The experimental results were compared with the equilibrium data using a commercial simulation tool (PRO/II).
This work was focused on the synthesis and their catalytic performance on microporous materials having various pore types and dimensions in structures, such as the SAPO-34 and the SAPO-44 with CHA type, the SAPO-17 with ERI type of three dimensional structures, and the ZSM-23 with MTT type of one dimensional structure. Synthesized materials exhibited various acidities and the selectivities to olefin in methanol conversion. As a result, the order of their acid strength was as follows; SAPO-44>SAPO-34>SAPO-17>ZSM-5. On the other hand, the CHA type materials, such as SAPO-34 and SAPO-44, had high selectivity to light olefins(ethylene or propylene), and ZSM-23 with MTT typ of one dimensional structure showed high selectivity to paraffins over $\textrm{C}_{5}$~. This result is a proof that the structure in material had strong influence on catalytic performance. In addition, a surprising result is that the catalytic selectivity to ethylene enhanced on Ni-corporated materials compared with the non-corporated.

A newly isolated strain, Proteus vulgaris OR34, from olive mill waste was found to secrete an alkaline extracellular lipase at 11 U·ml-1 when cultivated on an optimized liquid medium. This lipase was purified 94.64-fold with a total yield of 9.11% and its maximal specific activity was shown to be 3232.58 and 1777.92 U·mg-1 when evaluated using the pH-stat technique at 55℃ and pH 9 and Tributyrin TC4 or olive oil as the substrate. The molecular mass of the pure OR34 lipase was estimated to be around 31 kDa, as revealed by SDS-PAGE and its substrate specificity was investigated using a variety of triglycerides. This assay revealed that OR34 lipase preferred short and medium chain fatty acids. In addition, this lipase was stable in the presence of high concentrations of bile salt (NaDC) and calcium ions appear not to be necessary for its activity. This lipase was inhibited by THL (Orlistat) which confirmed its identity as a serine enzyme. In addition, the immobilization of OR34 lipase by adsorption onto calcium carbonate increased its stability at higher temperatures and within a larger pH range. The immobilized lipase exhibited a high tolerance to organic solvents and retained 60% of its activity after 10 months of storage at 4℃. Finally, the OR34 lipase was applied in biodiesel synthesis via oleic acid mediated esterification of methanol when using hexane as solvent. The best conversion yield (67%) was obtained at 12 h and 40℃ using the immobilized enzyme and this enzyme could be reused for six cycles with the same efficiency.
One of the most exciting areas for the development of alternative fuels is the production of biodiesel. To reduce the cost of biodiesel production, in situ trans-esterification has been introduced to simplify the production process by enabling extraction and trans-esterification to occur at a single stage in the presence of a catalyst. In this study, we investigated the feasibility of using non-corrosive and environmentally receptive flying jet plasma as an alternative catalytic route for in situ tran-sesterification of castor bean seeds (CBS). Upon optimizing the reaction conditions, it is elucidated that applying a low ratio of methanol to seeds (≤6:1) has resulted in hindering the in situ trans-esterification and leading to insignificant conversion. The yield of esters has increased from 80.5% to 91.7% as the molar ratio rose from 9:1 to 12:1. Excess alcohol beyond the ratio of 15:1 was shown to have a negative impact on the yield of the produced esters, attributed to an increase in the biodiesel portion prone to dissolving in the co-product (glycerol). An increase in the reaction bulk temperature from 40 to 55 ℃ led to a higher ester content by 50%. Further increases in the bulk temperature beyond 55 ℃ did not affect yields. Regarding the reaction period, the results have shown that 3 h of reaction is adequate for a higher biodiesel yield. The quality of the biodiesel obtained has demonstrated that all physicochemical properties meet the ASTM D6751 specifications.
