Research was conducted on the production of bio-methane for city gas, from food waste digestion gas using two membrane-separation methods(4SBR and 3SDR) in a commercial plant. A purity of 98.9% can be obtained using either method. The recovery rate of methane from the digestion gas was 88.1% for 4SBR and 79.4% for 3SDR. the ratios of bio-methane production to treated digestion gas were 53.5% for 4SBR and 49.4% for 3SDR. However, the 4SBR method had a higher ratio of returned gas(56.5%), approximately twice that of 3SDR, making 3SDR the more desirable method in terms of maximum treat capacity. Therefore, 4SBR seems more economical when the digestion gas to be treated is less than 200 N㎥/day, while 3SDR is more suited to treat gas volumes of more than 240 N㎥/day. The relative deviation of each operation index, compared to mean values, was generally greater for the 4SBR method. Additionally, the correlation coefficients between major system indexes, such as bio-methane production and bio-methane draw out pressure(which is the main control measure of membrane facility) showed that these indexes are more closely related in the 3SDR method.

Operating characteristics of a 30 L microbial electrolysis cell (MEC) for producing biogas from sewage sludge was studied. During the 32-day inoculation period, carbon dioxide concentration decreased and methane concentration increased with operating time, and the overall methane content of biogas was 69.1% with a production rate of 171.6 mL CH4/L·d. In fed-batch experiments for 6 operating cycles, CH4 concentration of 66.5~77.2% was obtained at a production rate of 184.9~372.9 mL CH4/L·d, COD, TS and VS removal efficiency ranged from 28.2 to 42.1%, 20.7 to 37.5% and 18.5 to 36.9%, respectively. The MEC system was observed to be stabilized as operating cycles were repeated after inoculation. In the last operating cycle, 5221 mL/L of methane was produced with CH4 yield of 316.7 L CH4/kg CODrem, and the energy recovery was 73%.
Energy recovery technology from municipal solid waste has been increasingly established in many countries. Anaerobic treatment of municipal sewage sludge has low digestion efficiency because of low organic loading rate of sewage sludge. The purpose of this study was to evaluate anaerobic biodegradability of food waste which was based on organic loading rate and seeding rate. From the results of anaerbic biodegration, the optimum condition for seeding rate was turn out over 40%, which did not inhibition of methane production.
In this study, gas hydrate production has been followed using swapping method to investigate the effect of injection rate of flue gas and soaking period in unconsolidated artificial sand sample. The results shows that recovery factor of methane gas decreases with increasing the injection rate of flue gas. This indicates that the velocity of flue gas in porous media may act as kinds of inhibitor for production of hydrate. Also recovery factor increases with increasing the soaking time.

Effect of electrode spacing on the performance of microbial electrolysis cells(MECs) for treating sewage sludge was investigated through lab scale experiment. The reactors were equipped with two pairs of electrodes that have a different electrode spacing (16, 32 mm). Shorter electrode distance improved the overall performance of MEC system. With the 16 mm of electrode distance, the current density was $3.04{\sim}3.74A/m^3$ and methane production was $0.616{\sim}0.804Nm^3/m^3$, which were higher than those obtained with 32 mm of electrode spacing ($1.50{\sim}1.82A/m^3$, $0.529{\sim}0.664Nm^3/m^3$). The COD removal was in the range of 34~40%, and the VSS reduction ranged 32~38%. As the current production increased, VSS reduction and methane production were increased possibly due to the improved bioelectrochemical performance of the system. Methane production was more affected by current density than VSS reduction. These results imply that the reducing the electrode spacing can enhance the methane production and recovery from sewage sludge with the decreased internal resistance, however, it was not able to improve VSS reduction of sewage sludge.
A wastewater treatment pond system was developed for treatment and recycling of dairy cattle excreta of $5\;m^1$ per day. The wastes were diluted by the water used for clearing stalls. The system was composed of three ponds in series. A submerged gas collector for the recovery of methane was installed at the bottom of secondary pond with water depth of 2.4m. This paper deals mainly with performance of methane fermentation of secondary pond which is faclutative one. The average $BOD_5$, SS, TN, and TP concentrations of influent into secondary pond were 49.1, 53.4, 48.6, and 5.3 mg/l, and those of effluent from it were 27.9, 45.7, 30.8, 3.2 mg/l respectively. Methane fermentation of 2.4-meter-deep secondary pond bottom was well established at $16^{\circ}C$ and gas garnered from the collector at that temperature was 80% methane. Literature on methane fermentation of wastewater treatment ponds shows that methane bacteria grow well around $24^{\circ}C$, the rate of daily accumulation and decomposition of sludge is approximately equal at $19^{\circ}C$, and activities of methanogenic bacteria are ceased below $14^{\circ}C$. The good methane fermentation of the pond bottom around $16^{\circ}C$, about $3^{\circ}C$ lower than $19^{\circ}C$, results from temperature stability, anaerobic condition, and neutral pH of the bottom sludge layer. It is recommended that the depth of pond water could be 2.4m. Gas from the collector during active methane fermentation was almost 83% methane, less than 17% nitrogen. Carbon dioxide was less than 1% of the gas, which indicates that carbon dioxide produced in bottom sludges was dissolved in the overlaying water column. Thus a purified methane can be collected and used as energy source. Sludge accumulation on the pond bottom for a nine month period was 1.3cm and annual sludge depth can be estimated to be 1.7cm. Design of additional pond depth of 0.3m can lead to 15 - 20 year sludge removal.
For large scale separation hydrogen from different mixing ratio(60/40 and 80/20 vol.%) of hydrogen and methane $1Nm^3/hr$ and $4Nm^3/hr$ 2bed-6step pressure swing adsorption(PSA) process was used, respectively. The effects of the feed gas pressure, adsorption time, the feed flow rate and the P/F(purge to feed) ratio on the process performance were evaluated. In the $1Nm^3/hr$ PSA results, 11 atm adsorption pressure and 0.10 P/F ratio might be optimal values to obtain more than 75 % recovery and 99 % purity hydrogen in these processing. The optimum feed flowrate was 22 LPM and 17 LPM in the ratio 60/40 and 80/20, respectively. In the $4Nm^3/hr$ PSA results, 10 atm adsorption pressure might be simulated values to obtain more than 80 % recovery and 99 % purity hydrogen in these processing.

On the continental margins and in permafrost regions, natural gas, which has been expected to replace petroleum energy, exists In solid hydrate farm. World hydrate reserves Including natural gas are estimated at about twice as much as the energy contained In total fossil fuel reserves. Because of its vast quantities, the efficient recovery of natural gas from natural gas hydrate becomes the most important factor on evaluating the economic feasibility in the sense of commercialization. It has been noted that carbon dioxide, one of the well-known green house gases, possibly can be stored in the ocean floor as a carbon dioxide hydrate. If the natural gas hydrate could be converted into carbon dioxide hydrate, natural gas hydrate deposits would serve as energy sources as well as carbon dioxide storage sites in the deep ocean sediments. In this study, we first attempted to examine the real swapping phenomenon occurring between guest molecules and various structures of gas hydrate through spectroscopic identification such as NMR spectroscopy.
Fuel cell systems are being supplied to households and buildings to reduce greenhouse gases. The fuel cell systems have problems of high cost and slow startup due to fuel processors. Greenhouse gas reduction of the fuel cell systems is also limited by using natural gas. The problems can be solved by using a hydrogen generator consisting of a reformer and pressure swing adsorption (PSA). However, part load operation of the hydrogen generator is required depending on the hydrogen consumption. In this paper, PSA operation strategies are investigated for part load of the hydrogen generator. Adsorption and purge time were changed in the range of part load ratio between from 0.5 to 1.0. As adsorption time increased, hydrogen recovery increased from 29.09% to 48.34% at 0.5 of part load ratio. Hydrogen recovery and hydrogen purity were also improved by increasing adsorption and purge time. However, hydrogen recovery dramatically decreased to 35.01% at 0.5 of part load ratio.

Production data from hydraulically fractured well in coalbed methane (CBM) reservoirs was analyzed using decl ine curve analysis (DCA), flow regime analysis, and flowing material balance to forecast the production performance and to determine estimated ultimate recovery (EUR) and timing for applying the DCA. To generate synthetic production data, reservoir models were built based on the CBM propertie of the Appalachian Basin, USA. Production data analysis shows that the transient flow (TF) occurs for 6~16 years and then the boundary dominated flow (BDF) was reached. In the TF period, it is impossible to forecast the production performance due to the significant errors between predicted data and synthetic data. The prediction can be conducted using the production data of more than a year after reached BDF with EUR error of approximately 5%.
