Pool boiling performance of an enhanced tube used in flooded refrigerant evaporator for turbo-refrigerator (터보냉동기용 만액식 증발기에 사용되는 성형가공관의 풀비등 성능)

  • Pool boiling performance of a metal-formed enhanced tube for a flooded refrigerant evaporator was experimentally investigated. Tests were performed for three different refrigerants(R-11, R-123, R-l34a), at two different saturation temperatures $4.4^{\circ}C \;and \;26.7^{\circ}C$ .Heat flux was varied from 10㎾/$m^2\;to\ 50㎾/$m^2$. Compared with the heat transfer coefficients of the smooth tube, the heat transfer coefficients of the enhanced tube were 6.6 times higher for R-11, 6.0 tines higher for R-123 and 3.5 times higher for R-l34a. The enhancements are comparable with those of foreign products. The heat transfer coefficients of R-l34a were higher than those of R-11 and R-123, either for the enhanced tube or for the smooth tube. At $4.4^{\circ}Csaturation temperature, however, the heat transfer coefficients of R-l34a were approximately the same as those of R-11, The effect of the saturation pressure on the boiling performance was similar to that of the smooth tube - the heat transfer coefficient increases as the saturation pressure increases.

A Study on the Oxide Scale of the Long Term Serviced 12%Cr Boiler Tube Steel (장기간 사용한 12%Cr강 보일러 튜브의 산화스케일에 관한 연구)

  • The internal oxide scale of twelve superheater and reheater tubes were tested which were serviced for 30,000~120,000 hours in thermal power plants. The oxide scale was formed in three layers. The Cr-rich area was observed beneath the original metal surface. The hematite ($Fe_2O_3$) phase was formed on the outer surface. The intermediate layer was magnetite ($Fe_3O_4$). The thickness of Cr-rich layer was about half of the total scale. All layers grew during the operation hour of the plant. The thickness of thickest scale was 0.2mm in superheater tubes. This can increase the tube metal temperature about $7^{\circ}C$ more than initial state. $7^{\circ}C$ tube metal temperature can reduce tube life about 30%, but the boiler tube's design margin is big enough therefore it has been analyzed that it would not effect on the life span.

  • The tube necking process increases the thickness of the material, and some of the tube necking products require cutting on the inside of the formed product as a post-process. In order to prevent over-cutting or un-cutting due to increased thickness during cutting, it is necessary to know in advance the increase in thickness after forming. Therefore, in this study, the thickness change according to the tube necking was observed. Aluminum 3003-F and 6061-O were used for the materials used in the experiment, and necking was carried out up to 50% of the outer diameter of the tube through five processes. The two materials were formed under the same conditions, and the thickness of three points was observed in each process. In addition, the thickness increase of the two materials was compared, and the trend of thickness increase according to the cumulative necking ratio was observed. As a result of the experiment, both materials had the smallest thickness at the end of the formed product. In addition, as a result of comparing the thickness measurement values of the two materials, the maximum difference was 0.1mm, indicating that there was no difference in thickness between the two materials.

  • Hydroforming is a metal forming process that enables circular metal tubes to be formed in to the parts with the complex cross section along the curved axial direction. Recently this hydroforming process is largely used for the production of the automotive parts. This paper presents the results of tube bending and hydroforming simulations in cases of the varying weld line positions of the tube. Ten cases of prebending and hydroforming simulations are carried out to find the optiaml weld line position.

  • Direct laser vaporization of transition-metal(Co, Ni)/graphite composite pellet produced single wall carbon naotubes(SWNT) in the condensing vapor in a heated flow cylinder-type tube furnace, Transition metal/graphite composite pellet target was made by mixing graphite, Co, and Ni in 98:1:1 atomic weight ratios, pressing the mixed powder, and curing it. The target was placed in a tube furnace maintained at 1200$^{\circ}C$ and Ar inert collision gas continuously flowed into the tube. The 2nd harmonic, 532nm wavelength light from Nd-YAG laser was used to vaporize the tube. The carbon nanotubes produced by the laser vaporization were accumulated on quartz tube wall. The raw carbon nanotube materials were purified with surfactants(Triton X-100) in a ultrasonicator. These carbon nanotubes were analyzed using SEM, XRD, and Raman spectroscopic method. The carbon nanotube growth on the Ni-patterned Si substrate was investigated by the CVD process. Transition-metal, Ni and CH4 gas were used as a catalyst and a reactant gas, respectively. The structure and the phonon frequencies of the carbon nanotubes formed on the patterned Si substrate were measured by SEM and Raman spectrometer.

  • The bending process for the rectangular curved tube can be developed by the hot metal extrusion machine with the multiple punches moving in the different velocity. The bending phenomenon can be controlled by the two variables, the one of them is the difference of velocity at the die exit section by the different velocity of billets through the multi-hole container. The other is the difference by the different hole diameter. The results of the experiment show that the rectangular curved tube can be formed by the extrusion process and that the curvature of the curved product can be controlled by the velocity of punch and the diameter of container hole and that the defects such as the distortion of section and the thickness change of the wall of tube and the folding and wrinkling of thin tube did not happen after the bending processing by the extrusion bending machine.

  • The bending phenomenon has been known to be occurred by the different of velocity at the die exit. The difference of velocity at the die exit section can be obtained by the different velocity of billets through the multi-hole container and by the cohesion of billet inside the porthole die chamber. The bending phenomenon can be controlled by the different hole diameter. The experiments using aluminium material for the curved tube product had been done. The results of the experiment show that the curved tube product can be formed by the extru-bending process without the defects such as the distortion of section and the thickness change of the wall of tube and the folding and wrinkling. It is known that the welding and extruding of each billet has done simultaneously although the curved tube is extruded with four billets.

  • In this study, pool boiling performance of Turbo/B-type metal-formed tubes was investigated. Tubes with three different cavity gap width(0.04 mm, 0.07 mm, 0.1 mm) were manufactured and tested using R-11, R-123 and R-134a. Tests were conducted at two different saturation temperatures $4.4^{\circ}C$ and $26.7^{\circ}C.$ Heat flux was varied from 10 kW/m2 to 50 kW/m2. It was found that optimum gap width varied for different refrigerants. For low-pressure refrigerants such as R-11 or R-123, optimum gap width was 0.07 mm. For high-pressure refrigerant R-134a, however, the optimum value was 0.1 mm. Compared with the heat transfer performance of the smooth tube, the metal-formed tubes enhanced the heat transfer coefficients significantly - 6.5 times for R-11, 6.0 times for R-123 and 5.0 times for R-134a (at $4.4^{\circ}C$ saturation temperature and 40 kW/m2 heat flux), which are comparable with the performance of foreign products. The heat transfer coefficients of R-134a were larger than those of R-11 or R-123, and they increased as the saturation temperature increased.

  • Rotary swaging is one of the incremental forming process which is a chipless metal forming process for the reduction of cross-sections of bars, tubes and wires. In the present work, the rotary swaging machine and dies were designed to investigate the formability of TDS(Tube Drive Shaft) used in automotive industry. The process variables such as the speed of forming, the shape of the formed materials and the reduction of area were also estimated to study experimental analyses of rotary swaging process using the materials of 34Mn5 and S45C. From experimental results, it was found that the process variables affected the quality of TDS in terms of hardness, the precision of products and the surface roughness. The hardness after swaging approved to be Increased with the increase in the reduction of diameter. And it was found that the grain size became smaller and the elongated grains were formed in the axis direction.
