Preparation and Characterization of NiZn-Ferrite Nanofibers Fabricated by Electrospinning Process (전기방사법에 의한 NiZn 페라이트 나노섬유의 제조 및 특성 연구)

  • Electrospinning process is the useful and unique method to produce nanofibers from metal precursor and polymer solution by controlled viscosity. In this study, the NiZn ferrite nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning with a aqueous metal salts/polymer solution that contained polyvinyl pyrrolidone and Fe (III) chloride, Ni (II) acetate tetrahydrate and zinc acetate dihydrate in N,N-dimethylformamide. The applied electric field and spurting rate for spinning conditions were 10 kV, 2 ml/h, respectively. The obtained fibers were treated at $250^{\circ}C$ for 1 h to remove the polymer. Finally, the NiZn ferrite fibers were calcined at $600^{\circ}C$ for 3 h and annealed at $900{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$ in air. By tuning the viscosity of batch solution before electrospinning, we were able to control the microstructure of NiZn ferrite fiber in the range of $150{\sim}500\;nm$ at 770 cP. The primary particle size in $600^{\circ}C$ calcined ferrite fiber was about 10 nm. The properties of those NiZn ferrite fibers were determined from X-ray diffraction analysis, electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis, and magnetic measurement.

  • Gears are produced through a variety of methods. In general, a metal piece is formed into the general shape of a gear through rough cuts. The gear then moves on to a more precise machine that removes more material. Grinders work via abrasion, rubbing a rough surface against a work piece at such high speeds that it literally scrapes unwanted material away from the item. Since the grinder is spinning so fast, the material is removed very quickly. This allows a grinder to remove a very small amount without taking any unwanted material with it. This study investigates the effect of grinding process parameters like grinding spindle speed and table transfer speed on the gear grade and grinding efficiency.

The Effect of the Te on the Microstructure of Rapidly Solidification Ag-Sn-In Contact Material (급속응고한 Ag-Sn-In계 접점재료의 미세조직에 미치는 Te 의 영향)

  • Contact material is widely used as electrical parts. Ag-CdO has a good wear resistance and stable contact resistance. But the disadvantages of Ag-Cd alloy are coarse Cd oxides and harmful metal, Cd. Then Ag-Sn alloy that has stable and fine Sn oxide at high temperature has been developed. In order to investigate the effect of Te additional that affects the formation of the oxide layer on the surface and the formation of oxide in matrix Ag, we studied the microstructures and properties of Ag-Sn-In(-Te) material fabricated by rapid solidification process. The experimental procedure were melting using high frequency induction, melt spinning, and internal oxidation. Specimens were examined and analyzed by Transmission electron microscopy(TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS) and Vickers hardness. As a result, internal oxidation was completed even at $600^{\circ}C$. Te forms coarse $In_{2}TeO_{6}$ phase and makes fine and well dispersed $SnO_{2}$ Phase. 0.3 wt% Te shows favorable properties.

  • Amophization and decomposition behaviour in $Mg_{62}Cu_{26}Y_{12}$ alloy prepared by melt spinning method and wedge type metal mold casting method have been investigated by a detailed transmission electron microscopy. Amorphous phase has formed in melt-spun ribbon. In the case of the wedge type specimen, however, the amorphous phase has formed only around the tip area within about 2 mm thickness. The remaining part of the wedge type specimen consists of crystalline phases, $Mg_{2}Cu\;and\;Cu_{2}Y$. The supercooling for crystallization behaviour of the amorphous $Mg_{62}Cu_{26}Y_{12}$ alloy, ${\Delta}T_x$ has been measured to be about 60 K. Such a large undercooling of the crystallization bahaviour enables formation of the amorphous phase in the $Mg_{62}Cu_{26}Y_{12}$ alloy under the cooling rate of $10^{2}K/s$. The amorphous $Mg_{62}Cu_{26}Y_{12}$ has decomposed into crystalline phases, $Mg_{2}Cu\;and\;Cu_{2}Y$ after heat treatment at $170^{\circ}C\;and\;250^{\circ}C$.

Fabricatin and Hydrogen Storage Property of Mg-33.5%Ni Alloy Powder Prepared by Melt-Spining Process (Melt-spining 공법에 의한 Mg-33.5%Ni 수소 저장 합금 제조 및 수소저장 특성)

  • The hyper-eutectic Mg-33.5%Ni alloy was rapidly solidified by melt spinning process. The melt-spun Mg-33.5%Ni has amorphous structure and crystallization occurred above $162^{\circ}C$. The hydriding and dehydriding rates of melt-spun Mg-33.5%Ni increased with cycle and high rate of hydrogen storage occurred at 3rd cycle. The maximum hydrogen amount absorbed in melt-spun Mg-33.5%Ni at $300^{\circ}C$ is about 4.5%.

  • An attempt was made in this study to investigate the brazing characteristics of Zr-Be binary amorphous alloys for the development of a new brazing filler metal for joining Zircaloy-4 nuclear fuel cladding tubes. This study was also aimed at the feasibility study of rapidly solidified amorphous alloys to substitute the conventional physical vapor-deposited(PVD) metallic beryllium. The $Zr_{1-x}Be_{x}$($0.3\leq$x$\leq0.5$) binary amorphous alloys were produced in the ribbon form by the melt-spinning method. It was confirmed by x-ray diffraction that the ribbons were amorphous. The amorphous. the amorphous alloys were used to join bearing pads on Zircaloy-4 nuclear fuel cladding tubes. Using Zr-Be amorphous alloys as filler metals, it was found that the reduction in the tube wall thickness caused by erosion was prevented. Especially, in the case of using $Zr_{0.65}Be_{0.35}$ and $Zr_{0.7}Be_{0.3}$ amorphousalloys, the smooth and spherical primary $\alpha$-Zr particles appeared in the brazed layer, which was the most desirable microstructure from the corrosion-resistance standpoint.

  • Hydrogen as a high-quality and clean energy carrier has attracted renewed and ever-increasing attention around the world in recent years, mainly due to developments in fuel cells and environmental pressures including climate change issues. In this processes for hydrogen production from fossil fuels, separation and purification is a critical technology. $(Ni_{60}-Nb_{40})_{95}-Pd_5$ alloy ingots were prepared by arc-melting the mixture of pure metals in an Ar atmosphere. Melt-spun ribbons were produced by the single-roller melt-spinning technique in an Ar atmosphere. Amorphous structure and thermal behavior were characterized by XRD and DSC. The permeability of the $(Ni_{60}-Nb_{40})_{95}-Pd_5$ amorphous alloy membrane was characterized by hydrogen permeation experiments in the temperature range 623 to 773 K and pressure of 2 bars. The maximum hydrogen permeability was $3.54{\times}10^{-9}[mol{\cdot}m^{-1}s^{-1}{\cdot}pa^{-1/2}]$ at 773 K for the $(Ni_{60}-Nb_{40})_{95}-Pd_5$ amorphous alloy.

  • [ $Zr_{50}-Ni_{27}-Nb_{18}-Co_5$ ] amorphous alloys ribbon was prepared by a single-roller melt-spinning technique. In order to improve the hydrogen kinetics Pd-coating were carried out on each side of the amorphous ribbon. Pd prevents oxidation of Zr and catalyses the dissociation of molecular hydrogen to atomic hydrogen. In this work, the hydrogen embrittlement and surface properties on Zr-based amorphous alloys were investigated. The Zr-based amorphous alloys were characterized by X-ray diffractometry(XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). The morphology of surface and roughness was observed by using scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). A lattice parameter of both Pd and Zr-based amorphous alloy was increased after hydrogen permeation at 473 K. After hydrogen permeation at 473 K, some cracks were observed on the surface of Pd, which was the cause for the hydrogen embrittlement. The crystallization temperature of Zr-based amorphous alloy was decreased due to the permeated hydrogen.

  • Ceramic materials have attracted increasing attention in the last 10 years because of their high thermal stability and high permeation property compared with polymeric nanofiber membranes. Recently, novel nanofiber ceramic membranes with high porosity and flux have been fabricated from metal oxide nanofibers. To improve the performance of ceramic membranes and reduce their costs, a new ceramic membrane with a selective separation layer made of nanofibers was fabricated by electrospinning process and modification process for filtration system. This review summarizes the research trends for the development of ceramic nanofiber membrane over the past few years.

Effects of the Substitution of Mischmetal for PrNd on the Microstructures and Magnetic Properties of Rapidly Quenched (MM)PrNd-Fe-B Nanocrystalline Magnets

  • Mischmetal of Bayan Obo ore was utilized to prepare the high performance $(Pr_{7.34}Nd_{21.86})_{1-x}MM_xFe_{68.7}Al_{0.1}Cu_{0.12}Co_{0.88}B$ ribbons using melt-spinning method. Phase composition and magnetic properties were investigated at room temperature. The ribbons mainly consist of $R_2Fe_{14}B$ phase in isotropic nanostructure. Both coercivity and maximum energy product decrease with the increase of MM content. The magnetic parameters of the ribbons with MM = 20 % in mass are $B_r=7.38kGs$, $H_{cj}=13.66kOe$, $(BH)_{max}=11.81MGOe$. Henkel plots were applied to demonstrate the exchange coupling interaction between grains.
