CIGS, CIG/Se, CuGa/In/Se, In/CuGa/Se CIG/Se, CuGa/In/Se, In/CuGa/Se
Two-component ceramic (alumina-zirconia) composites were fabricated by a soft-solution process in which polyethylene glycol (PEG) was used as a polymeric carrier. Metal salts and PEG were dissolved in ethyl alcohol without any precipitation in 1:1 volume ratio of alumina and zirconia. In the non-aqueous system, the flammable solvent made explosive, exothermic reaction during drying process. The reaction resulted in formation of volume expanded, porous precursor powders by a vigorous decomposition of organic components in the precursor sol. The PEG content affected the grain size of sintered composites as well as the morphology of precursor powders. The difference of microstructure in sintered composite was attribute to the solubility and homogeneity of metal cations in precursor sol. At the optimum amount of the PEG polymer, the metal ions were dispersed effectively in solution and a homogeneous polymeric network was formed. It made less agglomerated particles in the precursor sol and affected on uniform grain size in sintered composite.
$LiMn_2O_4$ powders were prepared by burning and subsequent calcination of PEG-metal nitrate precursor. After the burning stage of the precursor, some minor phases such as $Mn_2O_3$ (or $Mn_3O_4$), MnO, and carbonate were formed and single phases of $LiMn_2O_4$ were obtained by further calcinations above 400 ℃. From thermal analysis of the precursor, a violent thermal decomposition, which was indicated by a drastic weight loss accompanied by a sharp and strong exothermic peak, was observed and probably caused by an oxidation-reduction reaction between oxidizer and fuel. The formation of the minor phases could be explained in terms of the burning behavior of the precursor by employing valence concepts of propellant chemistry. The calcined powders were composed of submicron-sized but highly agglomerated particles and showed very broad particle size distribution.
The slot-die coating & calcination process was adopted to fabricate the long YBCO precursor films on the buffered metal tape for the $2^{nd}$ generation coated conductors. To obtain the smooth and crack-free surface of long YBCO precursor films, the parameters of slot-die coating and the process variables of calcination step must be optimized simultaneously in reel-to-reel method. Among the parameter of slot-die coating process, the viscosities of the precursor solution was controlled from 60cP to 200cP to obtain the thicker films from on single coating. The slot-die gap, the injection rate of precursor solution, the moving speed of buffered metal tape etc. are controlled lot the full coverage and smooth surface of YBCO precursor films. The slot-die coated films are moved through the tube furnace with predetermined heating profiles in humid oxygen ambient The YBCO precursor films was identifed with $Y_2O_3,\;BaF_2$, and CuO phase by XRD and consisted of fine grains of about 20nm size observed by FE-SEM. The YBCO films show the critical current density over $MA/cm^2$ using the precursor films formed by the continuous slot-die coating & calcination process.
By varying fabricating process, precursor powders with different initial conditions were prepared. Subsequently, Bi-2223/Ag tapes were made through these powders. The effects of precursor powders on the phase evolution and Jr properties of Bi-2223/Ag tapes were studied along with several thermomechanical cycles. Our results showed that the initial conditions of precursor powders could strongly influence the phase formation rate and $J_{c}$ value in final tapes. The factors of precursor powders that influence the phase formation and $J_{c}$ of Bi-2223/Ag tapes must be studied and optimized in combination.ion.
Ultrafine NiO/YSZ (Yttria Stabilized Zirconia) powders were made by using a glycine nitrate process which is used as anode material for solid oxide fuel cells. The specific surface areas of synthesized NiO/YSZ powders were examined with controlling pH of a precursor solution and the content of glycine. The binding of glycine with metal nitrates occurring in the precursor solution was analyzed by using FTIR. The characteristics of synthesized powders were examined with X-ray diffraction(XRD) Brunauer Emmett Teller with N2 absorption. scanning electron microscopy (SEM). and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Ultrafine NiO/YSZ powders of 15-18 m2/g were obtained through GNP when the content of glycine was controlled to 1 or 2 times the stoichiometric ratio in the precursor solutions. Strongly acid precursor solution increased the specific surface area of the synthesized powders. This is suggested to be the increased binding of metal nitrates and glycine under a strong acid solution of pH=0.5 that lets glycine consist of mainly the amine group of {{{{ { NH}`_{3 } ^{+ } }}. After sintering and reducing treatment of NiO/YSZ powders synthesized by GNP the Ni/YSZ pellet showed ideal microstructure where very fine Ni particles of 3-5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were distributed uniformly and fine pore around Ni metal particles was formed. leading to anincrease of the triple phase boundary among gas Ni and YSZ.
Many researches on fabrication process for BSCCO precursor powders have been developed for high J$_{c}$ BSCCO-2223 tape. Spray pyrolysis method for fabrication of precursor powder has many advantages, such as high purity, fine particle size and low carbon content of BSCCO precursor powder. Fine, spherical powders were prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis from the aqueous solution of metal nitrates. BSCCO precursor powders were synthesized with various solutes concentration and heat treatment conditions. Average particle size for spray pyrolysis powders was $1.5∼3\mu\textrm{m}$. Bi-2223/Ag tape was prepared by PIT method and followed by various sintering conditions. BSCCO precursor powders were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDS, Carbon content and particle size analysis.s.
Homogeneous and fine powders for Bi-2223 tape were prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (SP) method from an aqueous solution of metal nitrates. Bi-2223 precursor powders were synthesized with various solutes concentration and pyrolysis temperature. The synthesized precursor powders had a narrow particle size distribution and an average particle size was $\~{\cal}um$. The reactivity of precursor powder by SP method is very high, attributed to the fine and narrow particle size distribution. Bi-2223/Ag tape was prepared using PIT method and followed by various sintering conditions. The precursor powder by SP method promoted a very quick formation of the Bi-2223 phase for short sintering time while the secondary phase such as large AEC phase and $Ca_2PbO_4$ were minimized for SP tapes.
[ $Y_1Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-8}$ ] (YBCO) coated conductor has been fabricated by batch-type process using oxide-precursor-based metal-organic deposition (MOD) method. The batch-type process can be scaled up more simply to Produce long-length YBCO conductor than the reel-to-reel process. Also, it has less handling problems and is adequate to the ambient gas environment. In this work, YBCO oride powder was used as a starting precursor for MOD method. After reel-to-reel dip coating process, me ter-long-buffered metal tape was wound around a cylinder and underwent calcination and annealing processes. Annealed YBCO films showed good c-axis alignment and dense surface morphology with no cracks, but exhibited very low critical current density of $10^5\;A/cm^2$.
