The innovatory process, that is the direct separation and recovery of the iron and zinc metals contained in the high temperature exhaust gas generated from the electric arc furnace fer the inn scrap melting and/or the dust treatment, has been proposed. This proposed process consists of the moving coke bed filter that is directly connected to the electric furnace, and the following heavy metal condenser. The exhaust gas passes through the filter and the condenser right after exhausting from the electric furnace. The moving coke bed filter is being controlled at about 1000℃ and collects iron and slag components contained in the high temperature exhaust gas. Heavy metals such as zinc and lead pass through the filter as vapor. Based on the thermodynamic considerations, the iron oxide and the zinc oxide are reduced in the filter. The solution loss reaction rate is comparatively low at about 1000℃ in the coke bed filter by the analysis using the mathematical simulation model. The heavy metal condenser is installed in the position after the coke bed filter, and rapidly cools the gas from about 1000℃ to 450℃ by a full of the cooling medium like the solid ceramic ball in addition to the cooling from the wall. The zinc and lead vapor condense and separate f개m the gas in a liquid state. The investigation of the characteristics of the exhaust gas of the commercial electric arc furnace, the fundamental experiments of the laboratory scale and the bench scale ensured the formation of this proposed process. A small-scale pilot plant examination is carrying out at present to confirm the formation of the process. It is certain that the dust generation of the electric arc furnace is extremely decreased, and it can save the energy consumption of usual dust treatment processes by the realization of this process.

Hydrogen has a high potential to be a renewable substitute for fossil fuels, because of its high gravimetric energy density and environment friendliness. In particular, Magnesium have attracted much interest since their hydrogen capacity exceeds that of known metal hydrides. One of the approaches to improve the kinetic is addition of metal oxide. In this paper, the effect of $Fe_2O_3$ concentration on the kinetics of Mg hydrogen absorption reaction was investigated. $MgH_x-Fe_2O_3$ composites have been synthesized by hydrogen induced mechanical alloying. The powder synthesized was characterized by XRD, SEM and simultaneous TG, DSC analysis. The hydrogenation behaviors were evaluated by using a sievert's type automatic PCT apparatus. Absorption and desorption kinetics of Mg catalyzed with 5,10 mass% $Fe_2O_3$ are determined at 423, 473, 523, 573, 623K.
Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) occurring in underground buried pipes of API 5L X65 steel was investigated. MIC is a corrosion phenomenon caused by microorganisms in soil; it affects steel materials in wet atmosphere. The microstructure and mechanical properties resulting from MIC were analyzed by OM, SEM/EDS, and mapping. Corrosion of pipe cross section was composed of ① surface film, ② iron oxide, and ③ surface/internal microbial corrosive by-product similar to surface corrosion pattern. The surface film is an area where concentrations of C/O components are on average 65 %/16 %; the main components of Fe Oxide were measured and found to be 48Fe-42O. The MIC area is divided into surface and inner areas, where high concentrations of N of 6 %/5 % are detected, respectively, in addition to the C/O component. The high concentration of C/O components observed on pipe surfaces and cross sections is considered to be MIC due to the various bacteria present. It is assumed that this is related to the heat-shrinkable sheet, which is a corrosion-resistant coating layer that becomes the MIC by-product component. The MIC generated on the pipe surface and cross section is inferred to have a high concentration of N components. High concentrations of N components occur frequently on surface and inner regions; these regions were investigated and Na/Mg/Ca basic substances were found to have accumulated as well. Therefore, it is presumed that the corrosion of buried pipes is due to the MIC of the NRB (nitrate reducing bacteria) reaction in the soil.
This paper reports the effect of a refractory crucible type on the microstructure of duplex stainless steel (DSS) cast with the addition of gadolinium using air-induction melting. Grade 4A DSSs with 1 wt% of gadolinium (Gd) were fabricated in various crucibles including alumina ($Al_2O_3$), magnesia (MgO), calcia (CaO) coated with yttria ($Y_2O_3$) and graphite. The standard free energies of the formation of calcium and yttrium oxide were lower than those of gadolinium oxide and other crucible elements based oxide. The yield of Gd in DSS using $Al_2O_3$, MgO, CaO-coated $Y_2O_3$ and graphite was 5, 19, 83 and 96%, respectively. As Gd yield increased, the amount of Gd-based inclusions increased, the size of the inclusions were reduced, and the inclusions became evenly distributed.

Ternary tellurite glassy systems ($Li_2O-V_2O_5-TeO_2$) have been synthesised using Vanadium oxide as a network former and Lithium oxide as network modifier. The addition of a metal oxide makes them electric or mixed electric-ionic conductors, which are of potential interest as cathode materials for solid-state batteries. This glass-ceramics crystallized from the $Li_2O-V_2O_5-TeO_2$ system are particularly interesting, because they exhibit high conductivity (up to $5.63{\times}10^{-5}$ S/cm) at room temperature the glass samples were prepared by quenching the melt on the copper plate and the glass-ceramics were heat-treated at crystallizing temperature determined from differential thermal analysis (DTA). The electric DC conductivity result have been analyzed in terms of a small polaron-hopping model.

Catalytic decomposition of nitrous oxide was investigated experimentally. Two noble metal catalyst (Pt, Ir) were chosen to decompose nitrous oxide. Each catalyst was tested with different chamber pressure and preheating temperature. Ir decomposed $N_2O$ at lower temperature ($230^{\circ}C$) and suitable for $N_2O$ decomposition. In addition, the minimum required preheating temperature decreased as the chamber pressure increased. However, deactivation of Ir catalyst was observed during the experiments.

Conventional SONOS (poly-silicon/oxide/nitride/oxide/silicon) type memory is associated with a retention issue due to the continuous demand for scaled-down devices. In this study, $Al_2O_3/Y_2O_3/SiO_2$ (AYO) multilayer structures using a high-k $Y_2O_3$ film as a charge-trapping layer were fabricated for nonvolatile memory applications. This work focused on improving the retention properties using a $Y_2O_3$ layer with different tunnel oxide thickness ranging from 3 nm to 5 nm created by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). The electrical properties and reliabilities of each specimen were evaluated. The results showed that the $Y_2O_3$ with 4 nm $SiO_2$ tunnel oxide layer had the largest memory window of 1.29 V. In addition, all specimens exhibited stable endurance characteristics (program/erasecycles up to $10^4$) due to the superior charge-trapping characteristics of $Y_2O_3$. We expect that these high-k $Y_2O_3$ films can be candidates to replace $Si_3N_4$ films as the charge-trapping layer in SONOS-type flash memory devices.

The subthreshold swing (SS) of an asymmetric junctionless double gate (AJLDG) MOSFET is analyzed by the use of Gaussian function. In the asymmetric structure, the thickness of the top/bottom oxide film and the flat-band voltages of top gate (Vfbf) and bottom gate (Vfbb) could be made differently, so the change in the SS for these factors is analyzed with the projected range and standard projected deviation which are parameters for the Gaussian function. An analytical subthreshold swing model is presented from the Poisson's equation, and it is shown that this model is in a good agreement with the numerical model. As a result, the SS changes linearly according to the geometric mean of the top and bottom oxide film thicknesses, and if the projected range is less than half of the silicon thickness, the SS decreases as the top gate oxide film is smaller. Conversely, if the projected range is bigger than a half of the silicon thickness, the SS decreases as the bottom gate oxide film is smaller. In addition, the SS decreases as Vfbb-Vfbf increases when the projected range is near the top gate, and the SS decreases as Vfbb-Vfbf decreases when the projected range is near the bottom gate. It is necessary that one should pay attention to the selection of the top/bottom oxide thickness and the gate metal in order to reduce the SS when designing an AJLDG MOSFET.

Vanadium dioxide (VO2) is a strongly correlated oxide exhibiting a first-order metal-insulator transition (MIT) that is accompanied by a structural phase transition from a low temperature monoclinic phase to a high-temperature rutile phase. VO2 has attracted significant attention because of a variety of possible applications based on its ultrafast MIT. Interestingly, the transition nature of VO2 is significantly affected by stress due to doping and/or interaction with a substrate and/or surface tension as well as defects. Accordingly, there have been considerable efforts to understand the influences of such factors on the phase transition and the fundamental mechanisms behind the MIT behavior. Here, we present the influences of oxygen deficiency, hydrogen doping, and substrate-induced stress on MIT phenomena in single-crystalline VO2 nanobeams. Specifically, the work function and the electrical resistance of the VO2 nanobeams change with the compositional variation due to the oxygen-deficiency-related defects. In addition, the VO2 nanobeams during exposure to hydrogen gas exhibit the reduction of transition temperature and the complex phase inhomogenieties arising from both substrate-induced stress and the formation of the hydrogen doping-induced metallic rutile phase.
