Numerical Study of Design of Micro Bubble Generation Nozzle (마이크로버블 발생노즐 설계를 위한 수치적 연구)

  • Recently, with increasing standards of living and income, environmental pollution has attracted increased interest. On account of a revision to water pollution regulations, the improvement of sewage disposal efficiency was studied. One of the ways to improve the sewage disposal efficiency is to increase the dissolved oxygen content of water in the water treatment tank. In this study, we suggest a nozzle design using a spiral and a crash mode for generating micro bubbles and thus increasing the dissolved oxygen content of water. The micro bubbles through the spiral and crash flows are generated in the nozzle. In the design of the crash mode, the development goal with regard to the bubble size was not achieved. On the other hand, a bubble size of $0-50{\mu}m$ accounted for 79.3% of all bubbles in the spiral mode. This study should contribute toward increasing the sewage disposal efficiency.

Evaluation for Weld Residual Stress and Operating Stress around Weld Region of the CRDM Nozzle in Reactor Vessel Upper Head (원자로 압력용기 상부헤드 CRDM 노즐 용접부의 용접잔류응력 및 운전응력 평가)

  • Primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) has been observed around the weld region of control rod drive mechanism (CRDM) nozzles in nuclear power plants overseas. The weld has a J-shaped groove and it connects the CRDM nozzle with the reactor vessel upper head (RVUH). It is a dissimilar metal weld (DMW), because the CRDM is made of alloy 600 and the RVUH is made of carbon steel. In this study, finite element analysis (FEA) was performed to estimate the stress condition around the weld region. Generally, it is known that a high tensile region is more susceptible to PWSCC. FEA was performed as for the condition of welding, hydrostatic test and normal operation successively to observe how the residual stress changes due to plant condition. The FEA results show that a high tensile stress region is formed around the weld starting point on the inner surface and around the weld stop point on the outer surface.

Preparation and Characterization of Polysaccharide-based Nanofiber Using Electrospinning Method (전기방사 방법을 이용한 천연 다당류 나노섬유 제조 및 특성 연구)

  • In this study, alginate/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), and chitosan/PEO solution are prepared by dissolving alginate and chitosan into specific solvent for electrospinning. Solutions are poured into 10 mL plastic syringes with a metal nozzle supplied a high voltage power. The solution of alginate and chitosan is controlled by polymer concentration, temperature, relative humidity, applied voltage, distance from nozzle and flow rate of solution. Morphologies of fabricated nanofiber are observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Optimal conditions for electrospinning of alginate nanofiber membrane are 2 wt% of alginate, 2 wt% of PEO at $60^{\circ}C$, 15 cm from the nozzle, $8{\mu}m/min$ flow rate and 20~24 kV. The conditions for elctrospinning of chitosan nanofiber membrane are 2 wt% of chitosan, 2 wt% PEO at $25^{\circ}C$, 15 cm from the nozzle, $8{\mu}m/min$ flow rate and 24 kV. The fabrication conditions of complex nanofiber prepared with chitosan and alginate are 20 cm from the nozzle, $8{\mu}m/min$ flow rate and 26 kV.

Numerical Analysis for Improvement of Windshield Defrost Performance of Electric Vehicle (전기자동차 전면유리 제상성능 개선을 위한 전산수치 해석)

  • As the residence time in the vehicle increases, the passenger desires a pleasant and stable riding environment in addition to the high driving performance of the vehicle. The windshield defrosting performance is one of the performance requirements that is essential for driver's safe driving. In order to improve the defrosting performance of the windshield of a vehicle, relevant elements such as the shape of the defrost nozzle should be appropriately designed. In this paper, CFD based numerical analysis is conducted to improve defrost performance of small electric vehicles. The defrost performance analysis was performed by changing the angle of the defrost nozzle and the guide vane that spray hot air to the windshield of the vehicle. Numerical simulation results show that the defrosting performance is best when the defrost nozzle angle is $70^{\circ}$ and the guide vane installation angle is $60^{\circ}$. Based on the analytical results, the defrosting experiment was performed by fabricating the defrost nozzle and the guide vane. As a result of the experiment, it is confirmed that the frost of windshield is removed by 80% within 20 minutes, and it is judged that the defrost performance satisfying the FVMSS 103 specification is secured.

Comparative Study of Near-Wall Treatment Methods for Prediction of Heat Transfer over Gas Turbine Nozzle Guide Vane (가스터빈 노즐 베인의 열전달 예측을 위한 벽면처리법 비교연구)

  • The comparative analysis of near-wall treatment methods that affect the prediction of heat transfer over the gas turbine nozzle guide vane were presented. To achieve this objective, wall-function and low Reynolds number methods, and the transition model were applied and simulated using NASA's C3X turbine vane. The predicted turbine vane surface pressure distribution data using the near-wall treatment methods were found to be in close agreement with experimental data. However, the predicted vane metal temperature and heat transfer coefficient displayed significant differences. Overall, the low Reynolds method and transition model did not offer specific advantages in the prediction of temperature and heat transfer than did the wall-function method. The Reynolds stress model used along with the wall-function method resulted in a relatively high accuracy of prediction of the vane metal temperature and heat transfer coefficient.

  • Recently, with the rapid development in the industries such as an iron mill and chemical plants, there is enlarged by the use of the piping. Sepecially, the piping connected with a fluid, if it is increase the speed of running fluid, ought to generate cavitation phenomenon with unbalanced pressure. So, the cavitation phenomenon cause serious damage of the piping, because it generate erosion and corrosion in the piping. In this study, the steel pipe piping water (SPPW) and SPPW on weldment were tested by using of cavitation-erosion test apparatus with nozzle and were investigated under the marine environment of liquid. (specific resistance : 25 $Omega$. cm) The main results obtained are as follows : 1) The total weight loss and weight loss rate of affected zone of weldment by corrosion-erosion in the sea water are more increased than that of base metal. 2) The electrode potential by corrosion-erosion in the sea water becomes less noble than that of base metal, and current density is more increased. 3) As time goes by, the total weight loss and weight loss rate by cavitation erosion-corrosion in air-liquid 2 phase flow become more increased then those in only liquid solution. but these values turn to be decreased.

  • The purpose of this paper is to improve the hysteresis characteristics of a stack type piezoelectric actuator using system identification and tracking control. Recently, several printing methods that cost less and are faster than previous semiconductor processes have been developed for the production of electric paper and RFID. The system proposed in this study prints by spraying the molten metal, and consists of a nozzle, heating furnace, operating actuator, and an XYZ 3-axis stage, As an operating system, the piezoelectric(PZT) method has very valuable uses. However, the PZT actuator has a very big hysteresis characteristic due to the ferroelectric characteristics of the PZT element. This causes problems in the system position control characteristics and deteriorates the performance of the system. In this study, an investigation was conducted to improve the hysteresis characteristics of the PZT actuator that has an output displacement for the input voltage. The study proposed a inverse hysteresis model, a mathematic modeling method that can express the geometric relationship between voltage and displacement, in order to reduce the hysteresis of the PZT actuator. In addition, system identification and PID control methods were examined. Also, it was confirmed that the proposed control strategy gives good precision position control performance.

Laser Peening Application for PWR Power Plants (비등수형 원자로 발전소에의 레이저 피닝 적용기술)

  • Toshiba has developed a laser peening system for PWRs(pressurized water reactors) as well after the one for BWRs(boiling water reactors), and applied it for BMI(bottom-mounted instrumentation) nozzles, core deluge line nozzles and primary water inlet nozzles of Ikata Unit 1 and 2 of Shikoku Electric Power Company since 2004, which are Japanese operating PWR power plants. Laser pulses were delivered through twin optical fibers and irradiated on two portions in parallel to reduce operation time. For BMI nozzles, we developed a tiny irradiation head for small tubes and we peened the inner surface around J-groove welds after laser ultrasonic testing (LUT) as the remote inspection, and we peened the outer surface and the weld for Ikata Unit 2 supplementary. For core deluge line nozzles and primary water inlet nozzles, we peened the inner surface of the dissimilar metal welding, which is of nickel base alloy, joining a safe end and a low alloy metal nozzle. In this paper, the development and the actual application of the laser peening system for PWR power plants will be described.

  • This study was investigated to develop process technology of laser cladding with austenite stainless steel for Weld Inlay repair of dissimilar metal weld in reactor vessel in/outlet nozzles. Weld Inlay experiments were performed by laser cladding repair system consisting of common manipulator, laser apparatus and welding process scheduler, etc. Single pass welding experiments were conducted in order to obtain the optimum welding process parameters for filler wires of ER309L and Alloy 52M before multi-layer laser cladding. Based on the above obtained results, multi-layer laser cladding experiments were carried out, and welding qualities for weld specimens were estimated by PT, OM, SEM and EDS analysis. Consequently, it was revealed that multi-layer laser cladding on austenite stainless steel using filler wires of ER309L and Alloy 52M could be possible to meet ASME Code standard without any weld defect.

Deposition of YBCO Thin Film by Aerosol Assisted Spray Pyrolysis Method using Nitrate Precursors (질산염 전구체 원료로 분무 열분해 방법에 의한 YBCO 박막 증착)

  • Y123 films have been deposited on $LaAlO_3$ (100) single-crystal and IBAD substrates by spray pyrolysis method using nitrate precursors. Ultrasonic atomization was adopted to decrease the droplet size, spraying angle and its moving velocity toward substrate for introducing the preheating tube furnace in appropriate location. A small preheating tube furnace was installed between spraying nozzle and substrate for fast drying and enhanced decomposition of precursors. C-axis oriented films were obtained on both LAO and IBAD substrates at deposition temperature of around $710{\sim}750^{\circ}C$ and working pressures of 10~15 torr. Thick c-axis epitaxial film with the thickness of $0.3{\sim}0.6\;{\mu}m$ was obtained on LAO single-crystal by 10 min deposition. But the XRD results of the film deposited on IBAD template at same deposition condition showed that the buffer layers of the IBAD metal substrate was affected by long residence of metal substrate at high temperature for YBCO deposition.
