This paper described the state of art of porous metal materials, the typical manufacturing technologies and performances of sintered metal porous materials, with emphasis on the recent research achievements of CISRI in development of porous metal materials. High performance porous metal materials, such as metallic membrane, sub-micron asymmetric composite porous metal, large dimensional and structure complicated porous metal aeration cones and tube, metallic catalytic filter elements, lotus-type porous materials, etc, have been developed. Their applications in energy industry, petrochemical industry, clean coal process and other industrial fields were introduced and discussed.
Metal materials have been used in the clothing design on the spirit of ingenious experiment by fashion designers, and they have been put to practical use by several designers who work out a scheme of popular fashion merchandise. This current starting from the 1960s was weakened in the 1980s, but it was appeared with various shapes of metal materials in the 1990s due to a popularity of techno/cyber fashion. Recently, textile engineering technology causes to develop new-materials which are practical and sanitary. The development of fashionable metal materials brings about the popularization of fashion with metal materials, and it induces that mainstream of modem fashion has been changed into designers of pursuing the spirit of ingenious experiment. This study examines the formative characteristics of metal materials that are based on the spirit of ingenious experiment. As a result, it is evaluated that the formative of metal materials shown in modern fashion is futurism, visual concentration, avast-garde, resistance, precious.

This work investigated edge-cracking behavior of equiatomic CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy during hot rolling at rolling temperatures $500{\leq}T_R{\leq}1000^{\circ}C$. Edge cracks did not form in the material rolled at $500^{\circ}C$, but widened and deepened into the inside of plate as $T_R$ increased from $500^{\circ}C$. Edge cracks were most severe in the material rolled at $1000^{\circ}C$. Mn-Cr-O type non-metallic inclusion and oxidation were identified as major factors that caused edge cracking. The inclusions near edge region acted as preferential sites for crack formation. Connection between inclusion cracks and surface cracks induced edge cracking. Rolling at $T_R{\geq}600^{\circ}C$ generated distinct inclusion cracks whereas they were not serious at $T_R=500^{\circ}C$, so noticeable edge cracks formed at $T_R{\geq}600^{\circ}C$. At $T_R=1000^{\circ}C$, significant oxidation occurred at the crack surface. This accelerated edge crack penetration by embrittling the crack tip, so severe edge cracking occurred at $T_R=1000^{\circ}C$.
We report the application of conducting metal oxide electrodes for semiconducting metal oxide gas sensors. Pt interdigitated electrodes have been commonly used for metal oxide gas sensor because of the low resistivity, excellent thermal and chemical stability of Pt. However, the high cost of Pt is an obstacle for the wide use of metal oxide gas sensors compared with its counterpart electrochemical gas sensors. Meanwhile, relatively low-cost conducting metal oxides are widely being used for light-emitting diodes, flat panel displays, solar cell and etc. In this work, we have fabricated $WO_3$ and $SnO_2$ thin film gas sensors using interdigitated electrodes of conducting metal oxides. Thin film gas sensors based on conducting metal oxides exhibited superior gas sensing properties than those using Pt interdigitated electrodes. The result was attributed to the low contact resistance between the conducting metal oxide and the sensing material. Consequently, we demonstrated the feasibility of conducting metal oxide interdigitated electrodes for novel gas sensors.

We report on the metal-insulator transition that occurs as a function of film thickness in ultrathin $La_{0.75}Sr_{0.25}VO_3$ films. The metal-insulator transition displays a critical thickness of 5 unit cell. Above the critical thickness, metallic films exhibit a temperature driven metal-insulator transition with weak localization behavior. With decreasing film thickness, oxygen octahedron rotation in the films increases, causing enhanced electron-electron correlation. The electron-electron correlations in ultrathin films induce the transition from metal to insulator in addition to Anderson localization.

Increasing demand for portable and wireless electronic devices with high power and energy densities has inspired global research to investigate, in lieu of scarce rare-earth and expensive ruthenium oxide-like materials, abundant, cheap, easily producible, and chemically stable electrode materials. Several potential electrode materials, including carbon-based materials, metal oxides, metal chalcogenides, layered metal double hydroxides, metal nitrides, metal phosphides, and metal chlorides with above requirements, have been effectively and efficiently applied in electrochemical supercapacitor energy storage devices. The synthesis of self-grown, or in-situ, nanostructured electrode materials using chemical processes is well-known, wherein the base material itself produces the required phase of the product with a unique morphology, high surface area, and moderate electrical conductivity. This comprehensive review provides in-depth information on the use of self-grown electrode materials of different morphologies in electrochemical supercapacitor applications. The present limitations and future prospects, from an industrial application perspectives, of self-grown electrode materials in enhancing energy storage capacity are briefly elaborated.

Advanced electronic application areas have strongly required new materials due to the continuous shrinking dimensions of their devices. Specially, the development and use of metal precursors for atomic layer deposition has been extensively focused on application to electronic devices. Thus the systematic design and synthesis of metal compounds with relevant chemical and physical properties, such as stability, volatility, and resistance to air and moisture are very important in the vacuum deposition fields. In many case, organic ligands for metal precursors are especially focused in the related research areas because the large scale synthesis of the metal complexes with excellent properties exclusively depends on the potential usefulness of the ligands. It is recommended for metal complexes to be in monomeric forms because mononuclear complexes generally show high vapor pressures comparing with their oligomeric structure such as dimer and trimer. Simple metal alkoxides complexes are involatile except several examples such as Ti(OiPr)4, Si(OEt)4, and Hf(OtBu)4. Thus the coordinated atom of alkoxide ligands should be crowded in its own environment with some substituents by prohibiting the coordinated atoms from bonding to another metal through oxygen-bridging configuration. Alkoxide ligands containing donor-functionalized group such as amino and alkoxy which can induce the increasing of the coordinative saturation of the metal complexes and the decreasing of the intermolecular interaction between or among the metal compounds. In this presentation, we will discuss the development of metal compounds which adopted donor-functionalized alkoxide ligands derived from their alcohols for electronic application. Some recent results on ALD using metal precursors such as tin, nickel, ruthenium, and tungsten developed in our group will be disclosed.
As a basic study for the removal of oxygen in solid Nd metal by metal Ca vapour, by using the thermodynamic data such as ${\Delta}G-T$ diagrams and Nd-O and Nd-Ca equilibrium diagrams, the amount of residual oxygen in solid Nd metal formed based on deoxidation reaction by Ca vapour, instead of by direct contact of solid Nd metal and Ca solution, was determined. Deoxidation experiments were carried out for solid Nd metal in a temperature range of $890{\sim}970^{\circ}C$ for 1h to 4h and content of addition Ca of 0.6~1.8 g (5~15 wt% of solid Nd metal). As a result, it was found that as deoxidation temperature increased, dissolved oxygen decreased. Especially, it was observed that a small amount of Nd-Ca alloy liquid was formed on the surface of the solid Nd metal sample deoxidized at $970^{\circ}C$ for approximately 1 hour. Also, it was found that if the content of addition Ca was 1.8 g (15 wt% of solid Nd metal) the amount of produced Nd-Ca alloy increased slightly. However, for the Nd sample with which the deoxidation reaction was performed at $930^{\circ}C$ for 4h with content of addition of Ca of 1.5 g (13 wt% of Nd metal), the residual oxygen was found to decreased to 12.00 ppm.
