State of problem: Cement-retained implant-supported prostheses are routinely used in dentistry. The use of high strength cements has become more popular with the increasing confidence in the stability of the implant-abutment screw connection and the high survival rates of osseointegrated implants. No clinical data on retention of metal copings using CAD/CAM. To evaluate retention of metal copings using CAD/CAM system bonded to short titanium abutment with four different cements and compare retentive strength of metal copings with sandblasting or without sandblasting before cementation. Forty titanium abutment blocks were fabricated and divided into 4 groups of 10 samples each. Forty metal copings with occlusal hole to allow for retention testing were fabricated using CAD/CAM technology. The four cements were Fujicem(Fuji, Japan), Maxcem Elite(Kerr, USA), Panavia F2.0(Kurarary, Japan) and Superbond C&B(Sunmedical, Japan). The copings were cemented on the titanium abutment according to manufacture's recommendation. All samples were stored for 24h at 37oC in 100% humidity and tested for retention using universal testing machine(Instron) at a crosshead speed of 1.0mm/min. Force at retentive failure was recorded in Newton. The mode of failure was also recorded. Means and standard deviations of loads at failure were analyzed using ANOVA and Paired t-test. Statistical significance was set at P<0.05. Panavia F2.0 provided significantly higher retentive strength than Fujicem, Maxcem Elite(P<0.05). Sandblasting significantly increased bond strength(P<0.05). The mode of failure was cement remaining principally on metal copings. Within the limitation of this study, Panavia F2.0 showed significantly stronger retentive strength than Fujicem, Maxcem Elite(p<0.05). The Ranking order of the cements to retain the copings was Panavia F2.0, Fujicem = Maxcem Elite. Sandblasting significantly increased bond strength(P<0.05). The retentive strength of metal copings on implant abutment were influenced by surface roughness and type of cements.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the difference in shear bonding strength between resin cements to dental materials when a universal primer (Monobond plus) was applied in place of a conventional primer. Materials and methods: Four groups of testing materials: gold alloy (Argedent Euro, n = 16), non precious metal (T-4, n = 20), zirconia (Cercon, n = 20) and glass ceramic (IPS e.max press, n = 20), were fabricated into discs, which were embedded in an acrylic resin matrix. The gold alloy specimens were airborne-particle abraded, 8 of the specimens were coated with Metal primer II, while the remaining 8 specimens were coated with Monobond plus. The non precious and zirconia specimen were airborne-particle abraded then, the control group received Alloy primer coating, while the other was coated with Monobond plus. Glass ceramic specimens were etched. 10 specimens were coated with Monobond-S and the remaining specimens were coated using Monobond plus. On top of the surface, Multilink N was polymerized in a disc shape. All of the specimens were thermal cycled before the shear bonding strength was measured. Statistical analysis was done with Two sample $t$-test or Mann-Whitney U test (${\alpha}$=.05). Results: There were no significant differences in bonding strength depending on the type of primer used in the gold alloy and glass ceramic groups ($P$>.05), however, the bonding strengths of resin cements to non precious metal and zirconia groups, were significantly higher when the alloy primer was used ($P$<.05). Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, improvement of universal primers which can be applied to all types of restorations is recommended to precious metals and zirconia ceramics. But, the bond strengths of non precious metals and zirconia ceramics were significantly lower when compared to a 10-MDP primer. More research is needed to apply universal primers to all types of restorations.
Porcelain is the first ceramic material to be introduced into dentistry. Porcelain jacket crown was introduced by Dr. Charles H Land in 1886, which was an excellent aesthetic dental restoration but has not been widely used due to high firing shrinkage and low tensile strength. Then metal-ceramic system, which combines the esthetic properties of ceramics and the mechanical properties of metals, was introduced and nowadays it is still used in dental clinical field. However, the metal-ceramic system has shown some problems, such as increased lightness by reflection of light at opaque layer, shadow beneath the gingival line due to the block-out of light by metal coping, exposure of metal in margin part, bond failure between metal and porcelain, oxidation of metal coping during firing the porcelain, etc. Recently, along with the advance of fabrication methods of dental ceramics, the all-ceramic restorations with high esthetic and mechanical properties has increased and gradually replaced metal-ceramic restorations. Especially, CAD/CAM technology has opened a new era in fabricating the dental ceramic restorations. This overview will take a look at the past, present and future possibility of the dental ceramic materials.

Diffusion bonding is the key manufacturing process for the micro-channel type heat exchangers. In this study, austenitic alloys such as Alloy 800HT, Alloy 690, and Alloy 600, were diffusion bonded at various temperatures and the tensile properties were measured up to $650^{\circ}C$. Tensile ductility of diffusion bonded Alloy 800HT was significantly lower than that of base metal at all test temperatures. While, for Alloy 690 and Alloy 600, tensile ductility of diffusion bonded specimens was comparable to that of base metals up to $500^{\circ}C$, above which the ductility became lower. The poor ductility of diffusion bonded specimen could have caused by the incomplete grain boundary migration and precipitates along the bond-line. Application of post-bond heat treatment (PBHT) improved the ductility close to that of base metals up to $550^{\circ}C$. Changes in tensile properties were discussed in view of the microstructure in the diffusion-bonded area.
A previous stud-pull test was modified to measure the bond strength of polyurethane foam to carbon steel substrate. This test was appropriate in that the specimen foamed on Zn phosphated steel (0.95 kN) was broken at higher load than that of smooth galvanizing treated steel (0.38 kN). Among the samples foamed on the substrate atvarious preheating temperatures, the polyurethane foam to the steel held over 60$^{\circ}C$ exhibited very high bond strength. The samples were exposed at water vapor absorption, and, then, their bond strengths were measured. The adhesion was significantly reduced in the samples foamed on the steel at temperatures below 40$^{\circ}C$ and above 70$^{\circ}C$. For the polyurethane foams formulated with two blowing gases, the adhesion was higher by 0.03 kN in the samples with HCFC-l4lb than that with HFC-245fa. When the these samples were exposed at water vapor soaking, the reduction of the bond strength for the HFC-245fa blown sample was negligible due to smaller area fraction of void area filled with gas at interfacial area. Consequently, it was found that adhesion of polyurethane foam to metal substrate was determined by variation of microstructural features with substrate preheating, surface treatment type of blowing agent.
Ni-Cr and Co-Cr alloy uncontained Be element for using as dental porcelain alloy were analyzed the mechanical properties through bonding strength and fracture test after the bonding with porcelain. The bonding strengths between alloy and ceramic were measured through the shear bond strength test. Consequently, the T-3 group contained Be element that had shear strength of 41.13(${\pm}5.11$)MPa was showed the highest shear strength than the other groups. The second highest group was a verabond contained Be element that had shear strength of 40.72(${\pm}5.98$)MPa. The results of the other groups according to the shear strength were Wirobond(38.40(${\pm}9.66$)MPa) belonged to Co-Cr alloy, and Verabond 2V(32.77(${\pm}4.31$)MPa), Bellabond N(28.63(${\pm}6.39$)MPa), Bellabond plus(24.97(${\pm}6.13$)MPa), Argeloy N.P. Star(22.69(${\pm}3.41$)MPa) uncontained Be element, respectively. The morphological aspects of the fracture surface between alloys and ceramic were observed that all groups were caused mixed failure as conformation attached ceramic fragments to metallic surface by fracture process.
The purpose of this study was to compare in vitro shear bonding strength with three different enamel surface preparations (1) 30% sulfated polyacrylic acid with 0.3M lithium sulfate (2) 40% sulfated polyacrylic acid with 0.3M lithium sulfate (3) 37% phosphoric acid. 105 extracted human premolar teeth were divided into each three groups of 35. Metal brackets were bonded to teeth in the three groups. The same self curing resin was used for all groups. A shearing force was applied to the teeth. After debonding, bases of bracket and enamel surfaces were examined under steroscopic microscope to determine the failure modes. Statistical analysis of the data was carried out with one way ANOVA and Student t- test. The results were as follows. 1. Shear bond strength values for the 30% polyacrylic acid and 40% polyacrylic acid group were approximately two thirds of the phosphoric acid group. It maintains clinically acceptable but not enough bond strength. 2. There was no statistically significant difference in shear bond strengths between 30% and 40% polyacrylic acid group. 3. The failure modes of brackets had some differences. In polyacrylic acid groups, the percentage of adhesive/enamel failure was higher than that of adhesive/ bracket interface failure. On the contrary in phosphoric acid groups, the results were reversed. Further study of bond strength could be required. If polyacrylic acid enamel conditioning is used clinically.

ZnO is of great interest for various technological applications ranging from optoelectronics to chemical sensors because of its superior emission, electronic, and chemical properties. In addition, vertically well-aligned ZnO nanorods on large areas with good optical and structural properties are of special interest for the fabrication of electronic and optical nanodevices. To date, several approaches have been proposed for the growth of one-dimensional (1D) ZnO nanostructunres. Several groups have been reported the MOCVD growth of ZnO nanorods with no metal catalysts at $400^{\circ}C$, and fabricated a well-aligned ZnO nanorod array on a PLD prepared ZnO film by using a catalyst-free method. It has been suggested that the synthesis of ZnO nanowires using a template-less/surfactant-free aqueous method. However, despite being a well-established and cost-effective method of thin film deposition, the use of magnetrons puttering to grow ZnO nanorods has not been reported yet. Additionally, magnetron sputtering has the dvantage of producing highly oriented ZnO film sat a relatively low process temperature. Currently, more effort has been concentrated on the synthesis of 1D ZnO nanostructures doped with various metal elements (Al, In, Ga, etc.) to obtain nanostructures with high quality, improved emission properties, and high conductance in functional oxide semiconductors. Among these dopants, Ga-doped ZnO has demonstrated substantial advantages over Al-doped ZnO, including greater resistant to oxidation. Since the covalent bond length of Ga-O ($1.92\;{\AA}$) is nearly equal to that of Zn-O ($1.97\;{\AA}$), high electron mobility and low electrical resistivity are also expected in the Ga-doped ZnO. In this article, we report the successful growth of Ga-doped ZnO nanorods on c-Sapphire substrate without metal catalysts by magnetrons puttering and our investigations of their structural, optical, and field emission properties.

Nanopowders of titanium dioxide $(TiO_2)$ incorporating the transition metal element(s) were synthesized by flame synthesis method. Single element among Fe(III), Cr(III), and Zn(II) was doped into the interior of $TiO_2$ crystal; bimetal doping of Fe and Zn was also made. The characteristics of transition-metal-doped $TiO_2$ nanopowders in the particle feature, crystallography and electronic structures were determined with various analytical tools. The chemical bond of Fe-O-Zn was confirmed to exist in the bimetal-doped $TiO_2$ nanopowders incorporating Fe-Zn. The transition element incorporated in the $TiO_2$ was attributed to affect both Ti 3d orbital and O 2p orbital by NEXAFS measurement. The bimetal-doped $TiO_2$ nanopowder showed light absorption over more wide wavelength range than the single-doped $TiO_2$ nanopowders.

Fiber reinforced metal laminates(FRMLs) are new types of hybrid materials. FRMLs consists of high strength metal(Al 5052-H34) and laminated fiber with structural adhesive bond. The mixture ratio effect of epoxy resin$.$curing agent$.$accelerator on the fatigue behavior of FRMLs was investigated in this study. The epoxy, diglycidylether of bisphenol A(DGEBA), was cured by methylene dianiline(MDA) with or without an accelerator(K-54). Eight different kinds of resin mixture ratios were selected for the test ; five kinds of FRMLs(1) and three others of FRMLs(2). The relationship between da/dN and ΔK with variation of resin mixture ratio was studied. FRMLs(1) and FRMLs(2) indicated approximately 2 times and 2.2 times more improved maximum bending strengths in comparison with those of Al 5052-H34. The resin mixture ratio <1:1> in case of FRMLs(1) indicated the maximum fatigue life, while the resin mixture ratio <1:1:0.2> in case of FRMLs(2) indicated the maximum fatigue life. As results, FRMLs(2) turned out to have more effective characteristics on the fatigue properties and the bending strength than those of FRMLs(1).
