In automotive industry, applying of Mg alloy to autobody has been issued recently as a light metal. But poor resistance spot weldability of Mg alloy is blocking commercialization. So studies on improving resistance spot weldability of Mg alloy is increasing continuously. For reduce loss of heat input during welding, inverter DC power source is considered because of short rise time to target welding current. But rapid rising of welding current can increase temperature rapidly in nugget and oxide film between electrode and base metal, and that causes generating expulsion on low welding current range. In this study, for increase optimum welding current range and prevent generating expulsion, applicate various types of welding current waveform controls during resistance spot welding. For analysis effects of each current waveform control, acceptable welding current regions according to electrode force and welding time is determined and lobe diagram is derived. In result, pre heat is proposed as optimum type of welding current waveform control.
Flexion of a metal/ceramic fixed partial denture(EPD) frameworks under function can cause fracture of porcelain or deterioration of the cement seal. This study evaluated the flexion characteristics of three-unit mandibular FPD frameworks, repacing the second pre-molar under compressive load(200g, 400g). Testing was accompished with real-time holographic interferometry, using 6 porcelain fused-to metal frameworks. Tested alloys were non-precious alloy(Heracles, Holland), semi-precious alloy(Degudent U, Germany) and precious alloy(Degudent H, Germany). Changes of the fringe patterns according to the heat treatment(porcelain firing cycle), various loads(200g, 400g), occlusal forms(occlusal porcelain veneering, facial porcelain veneering), various alloys and post-soldering units were compared. Dental study model(Nissan dental products, Inc. D51DP-500A, Japan) and six 3-unit metal/ceramic fixed partial denture frameworks were used as experimental materials. 36 holograms were taken on fixed dental study model by using the 10mW He-Ne laser and real-time holographic interferometry. On the basis of this study, the following conclusions can be drawn : 1. In the frameworks for facial porcelain veneering, the semi-precious alloy framework was least deformed and precious alloy framework, non-precious alloy framework orderly before heat treatment, and the deformation was not shown great difference among three alloys after heat treatment and post-soldering. 2. In the frameworks for occlusal porcelain veneering, the precious alloy framework was greatest deformed and the deformation was not difference between semi-precious alloy framework and non-precious alloy framework before, after heat treatment, and the deformation was not shown great difference among three alloys after post soldering. 3. In the non-precious alloy frameworks for facial porcelain veneering and occlusal porcelain veneering, the deformation was greatly decreased after heat treatment and conversely increased after post-soldering. 4. In the semi-precious alloy framework for facial porcelain veneering, the deformation was not detectable after heat treatment and increased after post-solder. And in the frame-work for occlusal porcelain veneering, the deformation was slightly decreased after heat treatment and increased after post-soldering. 5. In the precious alloy framework for facial porcelain veneering, the deformation was greatly decreased after heat treatment and increased after post-soldering, And in the framework for occlusal porcelain veneering, the deformation was greatly decreased after heat treatment and decreased after post-soldering.
In order to improve the hydrogen storage capacity and the activation properties of the hydrogen storage alloys, the rare-earth metal alloy series, $MmNi_{ 4.5}$$Mn_{0.5}$$Zr_{x}$ (x=0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.1), are prepared by adding the excess Zr in $MmNi_{4.5}$$Mn_{0.5}$ / alloy for the strong resistance to intrinsic degradation. The hydrogen storage alloys of rare-earth metal such as $LaNi_{5}$ , and $MmNi_{5}$X and $MmNi_{4.5}$ /$_Mn{0.5}$ alloys which substituted La by misch metal properties were characterized as well. The hydrogen storage alloys were produced by melting each metal mixture in arc melting furnace, and the as-cast alloys were heat-treated at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 10 hr. The major elements of misch metal(Mm) were La, Ce, Pr and Nd with some impurities less than 1wt.% determined by ICP-AES. X-ray diffraction indicated that the structure for these samples was a single phase of hexagonal with $CaCu^{5}$ type. As the Zr contents increases, the activation time and the plateau pressure decrease and sloping of the plateau pressure increase. Amount of the 2nd phases increases with increase in Zr contents in $MmNi_{ 4.5}$$Mn_{0.5}$$Zr_{0.1}$ alloy, This phenomenon indicated that $ZrNi_3$ in this phase, which shows the maximum storage capacity and the strong resistance to intrinsic degradation, is considered as a proper alloy for hydrogen storage..
This study was taken to observe the changes of the residual stress in the alloy and to measure 3 dimensional distortions of the long span ceramo-metal bridge. The materials used in this study were Pors-on 4 (Pd-Ag alloy), and Ceramco and Vita VMK 68 powders. The residual stress of the alloy was measured on the six specimens (dia. 8m/m) by the X-ray diffraction stress analyzer according to the kind of ceramic powder and different measuring stages. And, for the measurement of the distortions, fifteen specimens of the anterior 8-unit ceramo-metal brige were fabricated and subjected to the 3-D coordinate measuring machine. Variables included the 2 kinds of a ceramic powder and the presence or absence of a splint bar at the cast metal framework. The measuring stages in both were after casting, after degassing and after glazing. The following conclusions were obtained : 1. The residual stress of the alloy showed increasing tendency for the tension by the ceramic fusing, but there was not significance. 2. The tendency of the distortions in the cast metal frameworks were decrease of the width, the anterior displacement and sagging. 3. The amount of the distortions at the degassing stage were greater than that at the ceramic fusing stage. 4. The splint bar was effective to control the distortion only at ceramic fusing stage. 5. The sagging distortion in the Ceramco firing were even through all measuring stages, but in the Vita firing, pronounced at degassing stage.
In order to achieve effective corrosion monitoring of buried metal pipelines, a Novel nondestructive Testing (NDT) methodology using ultra-long (250 mm) Polymer Optical Fiber (POF) sensors coated with the Fe-C alloy film is proposed in this study. The theoretical principle is investigated to clarify the monitoring mechanism of this method, and the detailed fabrication process of this novel POF sensor is presented. To validate the feasibility of this novel POF sensor, exploratory research of the proposed method was performed using simulated corrosion tests. For simplicity, the geometric shape of the buried pipeline was simulated as a round hot-rolled plain steel bar. A thin nickel layer was applied as the inner plated layer, and the Fe-C alloy film was coated using an electroless plating technique to precisely control the thickness of the alloy film. In the end, systematic sensitivity analysis on corrosion severity was further performed with experimental studies on three sensors fabricated with different metal layer thicknesses of 25 ㎛, 30 ㎛ and 35 ㎛. The experimental observation demonstrated that the sensor coated with 25 ㎛ Fe-C alloy film presented the highest effectiveness with the corrosion sensitivity of 0.3364 mV/g at Δm = 9.32 × 10-4 g in Stage I and 0.0121 mV/g in Stage III. The research findings indicate that the detection accuracy of the novel POF sensor proposed in this study is satisfying. Moreover, the simple fabrication of the high-sensitivity sensor makes it cost-effective and suitable for the on-site corrosion monitoring of buried metal pipelines.
Statement of problem: For the long-term success of removable partial dentures, the bonding between metal framework and denture base resin is one of the important factors. To improve bonding between those, macro-mechanical retentive form that is included metal framework design has been generally used. However it has been known that sealing at the interface between metal framework and denture base resin is very weak, because this method uses mechanical bonding. Purpose: Many studies has been made to find a simple method which induces chemical bond, now various bonding system is applied to clinic. In this experiment, shear bond strengths of heat-cured denture base resin to the surface-treated Co-Cr alloy were measured before and after thermocycling. Chemically treated groups with Alloy $Primer^{TM}$, Super-Bond $C&B^{TM}$, and tribochemically treated group with $Rocatec^{TM}$ system were compared to the beadtreated control group. The data were analyzed with two-way ANOVA. Result: 1. Shear bond strength of bead-treated group is highest, and Alloy $Primer^{TM}$ treated group, Super-Bond $C&B^{TM}$ treated group, RocatecTM system treated group were followed. Statistically significant differences were found in each treated group(p<0.05). 2. Surface treatment and thermocycling affected shear bond strength(p<0.05), however there was no interaction between two factors(p>0.05). 3. Shear bond strengths of bead-treated group and Alloy $Primer^{TM}$ treated group showed no statistically significant difference before and after thermocycling(p>0.05), and those of Super-Bond $C&B^{TM}$ treated group and $Rocatec^{TM}$ system treated group showed statistically significant difference after thermocycling(p<0.05).
FRMLs consist of thin sheets of high strength metal, which are laminated using a structural adhesive and high strength fibers. ARALL(Aramid-fiber Reinforced Aluminum alloy Laminates) of FRMLs is a new class of hybrid material. HERALL(Heracron Reinforced Aluminum Laminate) i.e. domestic ARALL is made of homemade aramid fibers, adhesives and adhesive technique. Domestic aramid fiber is Heracron manufactured by KOLON and domestic adhesive is epoxy resin manufactured by Han Kuk Fiber. In this study, Fatigue crack propagation behavior was examined in a 2024-T3 aluminum alloy/aramid-fiber epoxy 3/2 laminated composites, HERALL and ARAL $L^{ⓡ}$-2 LAMINATE comparing with 2024-T3 aluminum alloy. The extrinsic toughening mechanisms in HERALL and ARALL were examined, the crack bridging behavior of fibers was analyzed by new algorithm, which measures crack bridging stress, and the crack bridging zone length was measured.
The initiation and growth of $\alpha$-Al2O3/metal composites by the directed oxidation of molten commercial AlZnMg-alloy at 1223-1423K were investigated. Spontaneous bulk growth did not occur on the alloy alone. but the uniform initiation and growth of the composite were obtained by putting a thin layer of SiO2 particles on the surface of the alloy. Without SiO2 the external surface of the oxide layer was convered by MgO and MgAl2O4. But with the SiO2 reaction initiate the porous ZnO layers were found on the growth surface. The higher process temperature yielded a lower metal content. The oxidation product of $\alpha$-Al2O3 was found to be oriented with c-axis parallel to th growth direction. The growth rates increased with temperature and the apparent activation energy was 111.8 kJ/mol.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of each metal in non-precious metal alloys dental casting, still used even banned for use and trade by the law, for oral health. Methods: Two kinds of metal alloys were analyzed. One was Ticonium 100 for removable prosthesis and the other was Rexillium V for dental porcelain. Two samples of each metal alloy were made in 0.5g, 1.0g, and 1.5g. Total number of samples were 12. Two kinds of lactic acid Solution, pH7 and pH4.6, were injected into each samples. After injection, each samples had been for 21days ${\pm}$ 1 hour in the water tank of which temperature was $37^{\circ}C$. The level of metal was measured in each sample by inductively couplled plasma-atomic emission spectrometer. Results: In both metal alloys, metals, chrome, nickel, beryllium, and molybdenum, were founded. In Ticonium 1000, the highest level of nickel was 2.531ppm in 1.5g pH4.6 sample while the highest level of nickel was 4.062ppm in 1.5g pH4.6 sample of Rexillium V. In chemical composition of these methal alloys, chrome(14~17%) was much more than beryllium(1.95~1.99%) and molybdenum(5.0~9.0%) but berllium and molybdenum were founded more than chrome in samples. Therefore, chrome showed better anti-corrosion than other metal alloys. In both metal alloys, more metals were founded in higher pH level and more mass. Levels of chrome was significantly different in samples of both metal alloys in each pH level(p<0.05). Levels of nickels was significantly different in samples of both metal alloys in each pH level(p<0.05). Conclusion: For oral health, further studies are needed in nickel-chrome metal alloy and cobalt metal alloy of non-beryllium in addittion to beryllium metal alloy and also long-term studies needed in various period and other non-percious metal alloys for dental casting.
To fabricate the ceramic/metal(SiC/ Al alloy) composite, SiC preform was prepared by Pressureless Powder Packing Forming Method and 6061 Al alloy was infiltrated into the preform. Uniform compact having an average pore size of 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and narrow pore size distribution was prepared. Phenolic resin solution(40 wt%) was penetrated into the SiC compact, and then the compact was preheated at the temperature of 120$0^{\circ}C$. The pore size distribution and the microstructure of the preform were not changed by preheating. An uniform microstructure without any crack in the preform was obtained in SiC-Al alloy composite. The infiltration of 6061. Al alloy into the preform began at the temperature of 130$0^{\circ}C$ and the amount of infiltration increased in proportion to the infiltration temperature and the soaking time. The increasement rate of the infiltration amount decreased after 3 h. As a result of the infiltration at 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 4 h, Al alloy was well distributed in the interparticle channels and the relative density of the composite was above 98%. The strength and the fracture toughness of the composite were 303 MPa and 21.65 MPam1/2, respectively.
