Metal bipolar plate applied to Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell is getting most attractive due to their good feasibility of mass production and low cost. But it is one of the immediate causes of performance decline because it is difficult to reduce channel pitch of metal bipolar plate. In this study, mesh was inserted in between bipolar plate and GDL to obtain uniform contact pressure without reducing channel pitch. The section measuring and performance test were carried out to confirm the mesh structure distributes contact pressure equally in reacting area. The performance of 3 type mesh structures developed in this study were higher than the normal cell at all over the current range. Especially, it showed that the mesh cell performance was increased and pressure drop was decreased with diminishing mesh gap size. The Mesh structure was more sensitive to humidification and contact pressure change than the normal cell.

This paper reports the transparent electrode, which would be applied to transparent displays and smart glasses. Herein, a squared metal mesh with the most widely used copper wire in microwaves is studied for the alternating thin-film-type transparent and conducting indium tin oxide(ITO), with a low conductivity(sheet resistance > $5{\Omega}/sq.$). The electromagnetic performance of a patch antenna with metal mesh is analyzed. This paper presents the results of the optical(OT, optical transparent) and electrical(sheet resistance) characteristics of a squared metal mesh, which is a basic design. To improve the OT, copper wire(w=0.2 mm) is used in fabricating the squared metal mesh and the relationship between the OT and the antenna performance(radiation gain, radiation pattern) was analyzed according to the mesh size(l=1, 2 mm). The measurement results show that the antenna performance and the optical characteristic are in inverse proportion to each other. In real applications, the optical and electrical characteristics, and the costs of production are to be considered.

An experimental program was designed in the current work to examine the structural behavior of ferrocement beams reinforced with composite materials under three point loadings up to failure. The experimental program comprised casting and testing of twelve ferrocement beams having the dimensions of 120 mm width, 200 mm depth and 1600 mm length. The twelve beams were different in the type of reinforcements; steel bars, traditional wire meshes (welded and expanded wire meshes) and composite materials (fiberglass wire meshes and polypropylene wire meshes). The flexural performances of the all tested beams in terms of strength, ductility, cracking behavior and energy absorption were investigated. Also all the tested beams were simulated using ANSYS program. The results of the experimental tests concluded that the beam with fiber glass meshes gives the lowest first crack load and ultimate load. The ferrocement beam reinforced with four layers of welded wire meshes has better structural behavior than those beams reinforced with other types of wire meshes. Also the beams reinforced with metal wire meshes give smaller cracks width in comparing with those reinforced with non-metal wire meshes. Also the Finite Element (FE) simulations gave good results comparing with the experimental results.
A common site of fracture in maxillary complete denture is on the anteroposterior midline that coincides with the notch for relief of the labial frenum. Various approaches to reduce the incidence of this type of fracture have been suggested. The most widely used technique is the reinforcement of acrylic resin denture base with several solid metal forms. But few comparative studies on the efficacy of metal reinforcements have been reported. This study was conducted to compare reinforcing effects of commonly available metal reinforcements, which include wire, metal mesh embedded in the denture base and metal plate affixed to the impression surface of denture base by silicoating technique. This was load on the posterior. The strain gauges were oriented perpendicular to the anteroposterior midline of maxillary polished denture surface at one labial and the four palatal sites Non-renforced denture was used as control. The results were as follows : 1. In the non-reinforced denture group, only tensile strains on the palatal polished surface were observed. The tensile strains decreased in the order of incisive papilla, posterior denture border area, mid palatal area and rugae area. Compressive strain was observed on the labial polished surface. 2. As compared with the non-reinforced denture group, the metal plate or the metal mesh reinforced denture groups showed reduced palatal tensile strains, and the metal mesh reinforcement had a better reinforcing effect than the metal plate. But both reinforced denture groups showed no difference in the amount of compressive strain on the labial polished surface when compared to the non-reinforced denture group. 3. The metal wire positioned just above the labial notch decreased the compressive strain on the labial polished surface. But the presence of metal wires in the palatal polished surface caused increase in tensile strains in the area.
The manufacturing process of metal membrane made of only metal mesh and both metal mesh and powder with using rolling process have been studied. In the rolling of metal mesh, selected metal meshes were rolled with the reduction ratio of 10%, 20%, and 30%, respectively. Such rolling process resulted in the decrease of mesh pore size through reduction the cross sectional area of mesh and changing the diameter of mesh wires. Also, it enhanced the filtration ratio of rolled mesh which is almost same as the filtration ratio of upper grade unrolled mesh and the reliability of membrane by making pore size distribution become more uniform. In fabricating metal powder layer onto metal mesh, using PVA(polyvinyl alcohol) as a binder of powder, drying the metal powder layer at $100^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr, and sintering it at $1,000^{\circ}C$ for 3 hr in vacuum were to be optimum conditions for obtaining good quality of metal powder layer on metal mesh with high pore density but no crack. With additional rolling of metal powder layer on metal mesh with 30% reduction before sintering, metal membrane which filtration ratio is about $0.7{\mu}m$ has been successfully manufactured.
The composite metal deck plate system has been widely used for office structures. Recently, however, the flat deck plate has been developed to apply the composite slab system to residential structures. Reduction in construction cost and time can be expected by using expanded metal instead of wire mesh as crack control reinforcements. This study proposed a composite slab system composed of a new-shaped steel deck plate and expanded metal. Twelve specimens were tested to evaluate the structural performance of the new composite slab system. The test results were summarized mainly in terms of maximum load carrying capacity and failure behaviors of each specimen.
Presented are experimental results from 24 full-scale push test specimens to study the behaviour of composite beams with trapezoidal profiled sheeting laid transverse to the beam axis. The tests use a single-sided horizontal push test setup and are divided into two series. First series contained shear loading only and the second had normal load besides shear load. Four parameters are studied: the effect of wire mesh position and number of its layers, placing a reinforcing bar at the bottom flange of the deck, normal load and its position, and shear stud layout. The results indicate that positioning mesh on top of the deck flange or 30 mm from top of the concrete slab does not affect the stud's strength and ductility. Thus, existing industry practice of locating the mesh at a nominal cover from top of the concrete slab and Eurocode 4 requirement of placing mesh 30 mm below the stud's head are both acceptable. Double mesh layer resulted in 17% increase in stud strength for push tests with single stud per rib. Placing a T16 bar at the bottom of the deck rib did not affect shear stud behaviour. The normal load resulted in 40% and 23% increase in stud strength for single and double studs per rib. Use of studs only in the middle three ribs out of five increased the strength by 23% compared to the layout with studs in first four ribs. Eurocode 4 and Johnson and Yuan equations predicted well the stud strength for single stud/rib tests without normal load, with estimations within 10% of the characteristic experimental load. These equations highly under-estimated the stud capacity, by about 40-50%, for tests with normal load. AISC 360-16 generally over-estimated the stud capacity, except for single stud/rib push tests with normal load. Nellinger equations precisely predicted the stud resistance for push tests with normal load, with ratio of experimental over predicted load as 0.99 and coefficient of variation of about 8%. But, Nellinger method over-estimated the stud capacity by about 20% in push tests with single studs without normal load.
The rockfall protection fence is one of the most common rockfall protection methods in Korea. The typical rockfall protection fence consists mainly of three parts ; H-beam supports, wire meshes, and wire ropes. The design of the rockfall protection fence is made such that the total energy absorbing capacity of the fence. Therefore, resulting from the combined energy absorbing capacity of the three parts is larger than the falling energy of rocks. In present study, a new rockfall protection fence, constructed using expanded metals instead of the existing wire rope and wire mesh for the typical type of rockfall protection fence, was evaluated on its performance by conducting both laboratory and field tests. Also, for a comparison, the same tests were performed on the typical rockfall protection fence. The test results revealed that the expanded material is an economic alternative to the existing protection materials and the expanded metal rockfall protection fence exhibits the higher energy absorbing capacity compared to that of the typical rockfall protection fence.
