  • Effects of temperature coefficients fur dielectric constants on transient reflectances and thermal responses have been investigated for a metal(gold) thin-film during ultrashort pulse laser heating. Heating processes are simulated using the conventional conduction model(parabolic one-step, POS), the parabolic tow-step model(PTS), the hyperbolic two-step model(HTS). Results fro the HTS model are very similar to those from the PTS model, since the laser heating time in this study is considerably greater than the electron relaxation time. PTS and HTS models, however, result in completely different temperature profiles from those obtained by the POS model due to slow electron-lattice interactions compared to laser pulse duration. Transient reflectances are directly estimated from the linear relationship between electron temperature and complex dielectric constants, while conventional approaches assume that the change in reflectances is proportional to that in temperatuer. Reflectances at the front surface vary considerably for various dielectric constants, while those at the rear surface remain unchanged relatively.

  • Radiant heater tubes with an inside burner are designed to transfer the heat generated from the burner to the outside of the tube by radiation. Hence, tube metal must suffer high temperature of approximately 900-$1000^{\circ}C$. The radiant tube is usually manufactured by centrifugal casting with high Ni-Cr alloys. In this study, failure analysis results of the radiant tube are reported. Failure mechanism of the tube was investigated by visual observation of the foiled tube, metallographic study of the cracked region and chemical analysis of tube metal and oxide scales. It was argued that the main cause of the cracking is repeated oxidation of the tube metal located beneath the thick oxide scale. Oxidation was caused by abnormally high operating temperature which can be verified by aged microstructure and internal void formation.

  • This paper describes the design of a small size Alkali Metal Thermal to Electric Converter (AMTEC) which employs a capillary structure for recirculating sodium working fluid. The cycle is based on the simple and small capillary type ${\beta}"$ -alumina and wick tube element. The proposed cell consists of the 37 conversion elements with capillary tube of $50{\mu}m$ in diameter and the sealed cylindrical vessel of 22mm in outer diameter. Results on the cycle analysis of sodium flow and heat transfer in the cell showed that the expected power output was 4.65W and the conversion efficiency was 19% for the source temperature of 900K.

  • When did Metal (Au, Al) electrode differently, it is spread already that it is by energy level of electrode difference of electrical conductivity. This paper, experiment manufactures device of Metal/Organic Films/Metal structure using PBDG and I-V properties by electrode analyzed comparison. Also, measure energy level by electrode by propertiesy electrochemistry and studied about electron transfer of organic thin film in LUMO level relation with HOMO level.

  • Radiant burners are applicable to drying, preheating and curing in materials manufacturing processes. High radiation efficiency is one of the most important performance criteria for these burners. The wide variation in reported radiation efficiencies are partly due to the differences in the measurement techniques. In the present work, water cooled radiant heat flux meter was used to measure radiant heat flux from a metal fiber mat burner. Non-contact type thermometer was also utilized to measure the surface temperature of the burner. Combustion gas was measured by gas analyzers. According to the thermal loads and stoichiometric ratios, radiant heat transfer ratio and combustion performance were discussed here in.

  • In this paper crack propagation analyses in the dissimilar metal weldment of a nozzle were performed using a finite element alternating method (FEAM). A two-dimensional axisymmetric finite element nozzle model was prepared and welding simulation including the thermal heat transfer analysis and the thermal stress analysis was performed. Initial cracks were inserted at weld and heat affected zone in the finite element model which has welding residual stress distribution obtained from the welding simulation. To calculate crack propagation trajectories of these cracks, a new fatigue crack evaluation module was developed in addition to the previous FEAM program. With the new FEAM fatigue crack evaluation module, crack propagation trajectory and crack growth time were calculated automatically and effectively.

  • An automotive IC voltage regulator which consists of one-chip based on a metal-oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) is investigated experimentally with three types of packaging. The closed type is filled with thermal silicone gel and covered with a plastic lid on the MOSFET. The half-closed type is covered with a plastic case but without thermal silicone gel on the MOSFET. Opened type is no lid without thermal silicone gel. In order to simulate the high temperature condition in engine bay, the operating circuit of the MOSFET is constructed and the surrounding temperature is maintained at $100^{\circ}C$. In the overshoot the maximum was mainly found at the half-closed packaging and the magnitude is dependent on the packaging type and the surrounding temperature. Also the impressed current decreased exponentially during the MOSFET operation.
