Purpose: This study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of the ceramic fused to Ni-Cr alloy(Bellabond plus) and Co-Cr alloy(Wirobond C) by heat treatment. Methods: Metal specimens were divided into 5 groups for each alloy according to heat treatment conditions prior to porcelain application. Fifteen specimens from each group were subjected to a shear load a universal testing machine using a 0.1mm/min cross-head speed and one specimen from each group was observed with EDX line profile. Results: The diffusion of metal oxide observed far in the specimen heat treated than no heat treated in the opaque layer. The shear bond strength measured highest to BP3(50.50MPa), WC2(50.49MPa) groups and measured lowest from BP1(35.1MPaa), WC1(39.66MPa) groups which were not treated with heat, and there was a significant difference (p<0.05). Conclusion: The shear bond strength of Ni-Cr alloy(Bellabond plus) and Co-Cr alloy(Wirobond C) measured similar 5 groups all.
This study was executed to measure the shear bond strength of Panavia EX and Panavia 21 when the Ni-Cr-Be alloy castings were cemented to the enamel surfaces with these cements. The cast metal plates of Ni-Cr-Be alloy were sandblasted and cemented to acid etched enamel surface with Panavia EX or Panavia 21. Their shear bond strength were measured with Instron Universal Testing machine. Within the limits of this study, following conclusions were withdrawn. 1. The mean shear bond strength were 26.85.7MPa, in Panavia EX and 28.35.2MPa, in Panavia 21. 2. t-Test revealed no statistical significance between two groups(.05 level) 3. Macroscopically, bond failures were revealed compound fracture at metal and enamel interfaces, in cases of both cements, as the cement attached partly on both metal and enamel surface.
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of different light direction exposure times and setting times when using plasma arc light on shear bond strength of metal brackets. 240 extracted human premolars were randomly assigned to one of 16 groups Standardized brackets were bonded to enamel using different light curing units (Plasma arc light and Halogen light), exposure times (Plasma arc light 2. 4, 6 seconds and Halogen light 20 seconds). and light directions [Vertical direction [V] and Oblique direction [O]). 8 groups were tested after 5 minutes and the remaining 8 groups after 24 hours. The metal brackets were bonded with Transbond XT. Shear bond strength was measured by a universal testing machine. The results were as fellows: There were as differences between the shear bond strengths of the Vertical groups (V) and Oblique groups (O). regardless of exposure times and types of light curing units (p>0.05). The shear bond strength of the group with 2 seconds of plasma light were significantly lower than other exposure time groups (P<0.05). The shear bond strength tested after 5 minutes was lower than after 24 hours (p<0.05) The Adhesive Remment Index (ARI) score showed no statistically significant difference among the different groups. The results of this study suggested that the light direction of plasma arc light had no influence on the shear bond strength of metal brackets to enamel. and exposure times more than 4 seconds produced shear bond strengths similar to those Produced with a conventional halogen curing light.
Bond strength between alloy and ceramic plays an important role in deciding the quaring the processing of metalceramic restorations. Now the author had an experiment on the measurement of bond strength differences accoding to the contents of recast alloy used during the processing of metal-ceramic restorations. In the experiment, Anusavice's Planar Interface Shear Bond Test was employed to determine the bond strength. Total 25 specimens were divided as 5 groups, that is, 5 specimens in a group respections : Group I (new alloy 100%) Group II (new 75%$\cdot$recast 25%), Group III (new 50%$\cdot$recast 50%), Group IV (new 25%$\cdot$recast 75%), Group V(recast 100%). All specimens examined micropically and respective strength values of the group specimens were checked simultaneously. The results were as follows, 1. In the analtsis of variance the result showed the significant differences of 1%(P<0.01) among the each group classifid according to the recast contents. 2. When the interfaces of specimens were examined with an electron microscope, the air bubble were evenly occurred in all the specimens, and the occurrence frequencies and the sizes of air bubble were different between Group I and Group III, especially marked different Group I and Croup V. 3. In respective verification of each group through T-test, between Group I and Group II, between Group I and Group III did not show significant differences. 4. There was significant difference between Group I and Group IV, between Group I and Group V as 1%(P<0.01). 5. In the Shear Bond Test of all the groups, Croup V showed the lowest value. Explanatoion of Figures Fig 1. Main fracture type of metal-porcelain interlace showed in group I, II, III from shear Bond Test resets. Fig 2. Main fracture type of metal-porcelain interface showed In group Ⅳ, Ⅴ form shear Bond Test resets. Air bubble and their size appeared around interface of metal-porcelain. Fig 3. Group I, Fig 4. The purpose of this experiment was to determind whether the gold electrodeposit on Pd-Ag and Ni-Cr alloys influences on the shear bond strength between veneering resin and silicoated metal surface. All the metal specimens were sandblasted with $250{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide and followed by silicoating and resin veneering. According to the metal surfaces to be veneered, experimental groups were divided into five. Group Prec : Gold alloy without gold coating Group Semi : Pd-Ag alloy without gold coating Group Base : Ni-Cr alloy without gold coating Group Semi-G : Pd-Ag alloy with gold coating Group Base-G : Ni-Cr alloy with gold coating All specimens were thermocycled 1,000 times at temperature of $5^{\circ}C$ to $55^{\circ}C$. The effects of gold electrodeposit on the shear bond strength between resin and metal interface were measured and fractured surface of the resin veneered metal was examined under the scaning electron microscope. The following results were obtained 1. The shear bond strength between resin and metal was $64.51{\pm}11.11Kg/cm^2$ in Prec group, $62.77{\pm}11.23Kg/cm^2$ in Base group and $58.97{\pm}9.20Kg/cm^2$ in Semi Group. There was no significant difference among the groups. 2. The bond strength in groups Semi-G and Base-G decreased about 17%, compared to the nongold-electrodeposit groups(Semi, Base). 3. In groups of non electrodeposit(Prec, Semi, Base), fracture occurred at the interface between alloy and resin, while fracture interface was observed between gold coating and resin in group Semi-G, and between metal substrate and gold coating in group Base-G respectively.
When the porcelain fused to metal restorations were fractured at the metal interface, various techniques and materials for intraoral porcelain repair have been suggested. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of metal surface treatment method and water storage on the shear bond strength of four porcelain repair systems. : Clearfil(Kuraray), All-bond(Bisco), Superbond C & B(Sun Medical), Panavia OP(Kuraray). After the metal surfaces of the specimens were sandblasted by aluminum oxide or roughened by diamond point, they were stored in double deionized water(24 Hr., $37^{\circ}C$) and thermocycling was performed(24 Hr., 1024 cycles), and again half of specimes were stored in water bath(2 Months, $37^{\circ}C$). Mean shear bond strength and mode of failure were recorded. The results of this study were obtained as follows : 1. Differences were observed between the sandblasted and diamond - treated specimens in Clearfil, All-bond, and Superbond. No statistically significant differences were observed in Panavia. 2. The 2-month storage time significantly affected the bond strength of All-bond and Superbond. No statistically significant differences were observed in Clearfil and Panavia. 3. The failures were observed at the interface between opaque resin and the metal in Clearfil and All-bond. 4. The failures were observed at the interface between opaque resin and veneered resin in Panavia. The failures were observed at the interface between opaque resin and veneered resin in Superbond, but 40% of them were fractured at the interface between the metal and opaque resin after 2-month storage time.

Purpose: This study compared the shear bond strength of heat pressed and feldspathic porcelain to metal. Through thermocycling, the clinical aspect of heat pressed porcelain fused metal was estimated. Materials and Methods: 90 non-precious metal specimens were made ($4{\times}4{\times}8 mm$) and divided to three groups. All spicimens were treated and built-up with the porcelain ($4{\times}4{\times}3 mm$) by 2 different methods according to group: Group I: $Inspiration^{(R)}$, Group II: Ivoclar, IPS $Inline^{(R)}PoM$, Group III: GC Initial IQ-One $Body^{(R)}PoM$. The half of each group's specimens were thermocycled. All specimens' shear bond strength were measured by Instron universal testing machine. Exact measuring point was far 1 mm from porcelain/metal interface to the porcelain side. For the statistical analysis, 2-way ANOVA was used. Results: In no-thermocycling specimens, the shear bond strength showed no statistical significance between each group (P > 0.05). In comparison between nothermocycling and thermocycling specimens in each group, the shear bond strength was decreased according to thermocycling, but there was no statistical significance (P > 0.05). In thermocycling specimens, there was no statistical significance between each group (P > 0.05). Conclusion: In feldspathic porcelain and other two types heat pressed porcelain, there was no statistical difference in the shear bond strength of porcelain to metal. The heat pressed porcelain seems to be clinically useful for the aspect of the shear bond strength.

The reinforced composte resin as the esthetic operative material continuously has been studied because the porcelain fused metal prosthesis is widely used for its excellent esthetics, rigidity and marginal integrity, but it has low fracture resistance against the tensile strength and stress, attrition of the opposite teeth. The reinforced composite resin is well adapt with the dental alloy but it is low the shear bond strength with the dental alloy vs the porcelain fused metal prosthesis, and then has been studied continuously. The purpose of the study was to examine how metal was the higher shear bond strength among the dental alloy was used to the reinforced composite resin and to find the effect that the particle size of sandblasting influenced the shear bond strength. We built up the reinforced composite resin with 4 mm in diameter, 3 mm in height on circular alloy with 5 mm in diameter, 2 mm in height. Type II gold, type IV gold, and Ag-Pd alloy was used as alloys and $50{\mu}m$, $110{\mu}m$, $250{\mu}m$ of the particle size was sandblasted at each alloy in bonding between alloy and resin. We made 90 secimens of 10 per each group and we measured the shear bond strength using the Instron($M100EC^{(R)}$, Mecmesin Co., England). The obtained results were as follows : 1. In comparison among each alloys, Ag-Pd alloy had the highest shear bond strength and the shear bond strength was decreased significantly in the sequence of the type II gold and type IV gold(P<0.001). 2. In comparison according to the size of sandblasting particle, (1) In Ag-Pd alloy, shear bond strength was decreased in the sequence of $110{\mu}m$, $250{\mu}m$, $50{\mu}m$ and there were significant difference in all the group. (P<0.05) (2) In type II gold, it was decreased in the sequence of $250{\mu}m$, $50{\mu}m$, $110{\mu}m$ and there were significant difference. (P<0.05) (3) In type IV gold, it was decreased in the sequence of $110{\mu}m$, $50{\mu}m$, $250{\mu}m$. There were significant difference between the group of $110{\mu}m$ and $50{\mu}m$, the group of $110{\mu}m$ and 250, but there were no significant difference in the group of $50{\mu}m$ and $250{\mu}m$. 3. The highest shear bond strength according to the size of sandblasting particle was $110{\mu}m$ in Ag-Pd alloy and type IV gold, $250{\mu}m$ in type II gold.

The effect of five different surface treatments on the shear bond strength of the resin bond to Type IV Gold alloy was studied by bonding resin to metal. The metal surface was subjected to one of the following treatments and bonded ;(1) air abraded with $50{\mu}m$ alumina particles,(2) beads(3) beads and tin-plated at curreant density of 300mA/$cm^2$,(4) tin-plated at current density of 300mA/$cm^2$,(5) silicacoating with sililink, and bonded with an MDP Opaque primer, CESEAD resin system. The bonded specimens were immersed in water for 23 hours after 1 hour resin curing and shear bond strength were recorded. On the basis of this study, the following conclusions can be drawn; 1. Difference were found in the shear bond strength among all experimental groups. And bead glroup exihibited the highest shear bond strength and sand blasting group exhibited the lowest shear bond strength on five groups. 2. Bead group, mechanical bonding was significantly higher than that obtained with the samples, tinplating, silicacoating, and chemical bonding. 3. No statistically signiflcant difference was found between the shear bond strengths obtained with bead and bead-tinplating, and between tinplating and sili cacoating.
