  • In this paper, the catalyst layer is deposited on silicon substrate using magnetron sputtering system and carbon nanotubes(CNTs) were grown in $NH_3\;and\; C_2H_2$ gas by hot-filament plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (HFPECVD) system. A growth temperature of carbon nanotubes was changed from $350^{\circ}C\;to\;650^{\circ}C\;by\;100^{\circ}C$. We observed the shape of CNTs by a field-emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM) measurement and analyzed the surface characteristic of CNTs layer by contact angle measurement. That is, the growth temperature of CNTs is the important factor leads to the variation of the properties.

  • The fiber reinforced composite material is widely used in the multi-industrial field where the weight reduction of the infrastructure is demanded because of their high specific modulus and specific strength. It has two main merits which are to cut down energy by reducing weight and to prevent explosive damage preceding to the sudden bursting which is generated by the pressure leakage condition. Therefore, Pressure vessels using this composite material in comparison with conventional metal vessels can be applied in the field such as defense industry, aerospace industry and rocket motor case where lightweight and the high pressure are demanded. In this paper, for nonlinear finite element analysis of E-glass/epoxy filament winding composite pressure vessel receiving an internal pressure, the standard interpretation model is developed by using the ANSYS, general commercial software, which is verified as the accuracy and useful characteristic of the solution based on Auto LISP and ANSYS APDL. Both the preprocessor for doing exclusive analysis of filament winding composite pressure vessel and postprocessor that simplifies result of analysis have been developed to help the design engineers.

  • The extrusion process for long-length multi-filaments of BSCCO 2223 superconductor tape has been investigated with aids of Finite Element Method and experimental inspection. Since the arrangement of filaments in matrix material has characteristic of rotational symmetry, a 2-dimensional commercial FEM package, DEFORM-2D, was adopted to simulate extrusion process with different variables such as hardness of sheath material, lengths of each filament and arrangement. From the FEM analysis, since the inner filaments move faster than the outer one, distribution of filaments is needed to be optimized. In the case of pure Ag matrix, undesirable non-uniform distribution of filament was obtained due to low hardness of sheath material. Dummy sample(brass (sheath) and talc powder(filament)), however, which has relatively high hardness of sheath material, had been produced with desirable results. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize hardness of sheath material, extrusion temperature and billet design.

  • In this study, the design method of filament wound composite pressure tanks was established by using finite element analyses. Pressure tanks were designed with and without a load sharing metallic liner. A GUI(graphic user interface) program was developed to increase the efficiency of analyses. The replacement ratio was defined in order to replace a metal pressure tank with a composite one. Finally, the best design model that is satisfied with design requirements was suggested.

  • Filament-Wound composite pressure vessels offer significant weight saving over the conventional metal pressure vessels. S-2 glass/epoxy pressure vessel was designed, fabricated and tested. It was considered, in the analysis that the matrix and the metal liner of FRP pressure vessel shared the internal pressure. The thicknesses of hoop and helical layers were determinded by the computer program developed for the design of FRP/Metal structural pressure vessel. The computer program increased the structural efficiency about 14% comparing with the netting analysis. The experimental measurement on the deformation by internal pressure agrees with the theoretical analysis within the accuracy of 5%.

  • Mechanical behaviors of uniaxially fiber-reinforced metal matrix composites under transverse loading conditions were studied at room and elevated temperatures. A mono-filament composite was selecte d as a representative analysis model with perfectly bonded fiber/matrix interface assumption. The elastic-plastic and visco-plastic models were investigated by both theoretical and numerical methods. The product of triaxiality factor and effective strain as well as stress components and strain energy was obtained as a function of location to estimate the failure sites in fiber-reinforced metal matrix composite. Results showed that fiber/ matrix interfacial debond plays a key role for local failure at the room temperature, while void creation and growth in addition to the interfacial debond are major concerns at the elevated temperature. It was also shown that there would be an optimal diameter of fiber for the strong fiber-reinforced metal matrix composite.

  • As we note the electric properties of carbon nanotube, we need to generate carbon nanotubes vertically. Generally, metal catalysts are used to synthesis carbon nanotubes. But through using DLC, dense patricles could be gotten easily. Compare to the case of using metal catalysts, the case of using DLC can conduct vertical grwoth of CNTs easily. In this paper, we changed growth temperature (550, 650, $7500^{\circ}C$) and growth time (3, 6, 9 min) in order to confirm synthesize vertical growth of CNTs on substrates.

  • Smaller size and higher integration of electronic systems make narrower interconnect pitch not only in chip-level but also in package-level. Moreover electronic systems are required to operate in harsher conditions, that is, higher current / voltage, elevated temperature/humidity, and complex chemical contaminants. Under these severe circumstances, electronic components respond to applied voltages by electrochemically ionization of metals and conducting filament forms between anode and cathode across a nonmetallic medium. This phenomenon is called as the Electrochemical migration
