Purpose: The purpose of this study was to integrate and synthesize findings from qualitative studies exploring male students' experiences of adapting to nursing education programs so as to obtain further understanding of the phenomenon. Methods: The meta-synthesis process was primarily guided by Noblit and Hare's approach, which consists of four stages including searching, appraisal of an individual study's quality, data extraction for analysis, and meta-synthesizing the results. Results: Findings from the literature reviewed were synthesized into six themes: 1) extraordinary choice based on job stability and gender scarcity; 2) unexpected feeling of marginalization as minority far apart from the mainstream; 3) assimilation and negotiation for relational adaptation through perspective shift; 4) fortifying the vision and identity as nursing students by meaning making for adapting to the nursing major; 5) mutual support among colleague male students; and 6) serving in the military as way of hiding out and achieving maturation. Conclusion: The findings illustrate that nursing education programs need practical changes promoting male students' adaptation to the program itself as well as preparation to be a professional nurse in the future.
Purpose: This study analyzed domestic articles that studied job-stress of nurses using Meta Analysis to evaluate the responses resulted from job-stress and the factors affecting them. Method: To conduct this study, data were collected primarily from database of "richis" and additionally from 8 nursing journals and 5 theses for a degree on job-stress of clinical nurses. Result: As a result of Meta Analysis casual factor of job-stress, the result represented that two reasons; personal factor was the age, occupational factor were ward, duration of employment and position. By the result of analysis of effect of job-stress, satisfaction of the job, exhaustion, health status and immersion of the job were strongly related to job-stress. According to the general solution against job-stress that referred from job-stress related theses, there are several; Imagination Therapy, Assertive Training and Value Clarification Training could bring significant result. Conclusion: This study showed that because job-stress of clinical nurses had nothing to do with personal factors, job-stress management plans for nurses are needed to focus on occupational factors. Also the study suggested that various coping skills that proved to be effective are needed to be used to relieve job-stress and that's responses on nurses.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the effects of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training using a meta-analysis by effect size. Methods: The effect sizes for each variable and the overall effect size for the collected data were identified. The homogeneity verification of the effect size and the difference among the average effect sizes for each mediation variable were determined. Results: The overall average effect size for CPR training was 1.747. Homogeneity verification of the overall effect size was a Q-value of 3716.962, which was statistically significant (p=.000) when${\alpha}=.05$. CPR training showed statistically significant differences depending on age (p=.002), sex (p=.006), number of trainees (p=.000), research design (p=.000), training method (p=.027), and practical training tools (p=.000). Conclusion: CPR training can effectively improve knowledge, skills, and attitudes about CPR. The results of this meta-analysis contribute to the development of more effective educational guidelines for future CPR training and the advancement of the CPR education field.
This systematic review aimed to assess the effect of premedication on postoperative pain after root canal treatment in vital teeth. Five electronic databases were searched for randomized clinical trials, and two independent reviewers selected eligible studies, extracted data, and assessed the quality of studies using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. Meta-analysis was conducted using the random-effects model, and the pooled effect estimate of the standardized mean difference (SMD) between premedication and placebo was calculated. Subgroup analysis was conducted based on the class and route of the drug. Studies with a high risk of bias were excluded from the sensitivity analysis. Ten trials satisfied the inclusion criteria, of which eight were included in the meta-analysis. Premedication was more effective in reducing postoperative pain than placebo at 6 hours (SMD = -1.00; 95% confidence interval [CI] = -1.33 to -0.66), 12 hours (SMD = -0.80; 95% CI = -1.05 to -0.56), and 24 hours (SMD = -0.72; 95% CI = -1.02 to -0.43). The results of the sensitivity analysis confirmed the findings of the primary analysis. Based on these results, it can be concluded that premedication is effective in reducing postoperative pain in teeth with irreversible pulpitis. However, additional quality studies are required for further validation.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to review and synthesize the existing literature on the experience of nursing students in simulation. Methods: A systematic review was undertaken using meta-ethnography. Eight databases were searched up to January 2014 for peer-reviewed studies, written in Korean and English, that reported primary data, used identifiable and interpretative qualitative methods, and offered a valuable contribution to the synthesis. Results: Nine studies were identified, with quality appraisal undertaken. Three key concepts were generated: ambivalence of simulation practice, learning by reflection, and building up of the competency as a future nurse. Six sub-concepts emerged: double sidedness of simulation setting; feeling ambivalence of simulation; learning from others; learning from self-reflection; improvement of confidence by role experience; and internalization of nursing knowledge. A line of argument has been developed based on the themes generated. Conclusion: The findings from this qualitative synthesis and other related literature indicated the importance of capability of educator and extension of the simulation system to facilitate effective simulation-based education.
Purpose: The authors used a meta-analysis approach to investigate the effects of exercise on gender-specific triglyceride (TG) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in obese adolescents. Methods: This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis study to confirm the effect of exercise intervention according to gender for obese adolescents. PICO were obese a adolescents, exercise intervention, comparative intervention (control and general group),TG and HDL-C. Results: The group of obese male adolescents showed a statistically significant decrease of 51.72 in TG (n=175, MD=-51.72; 95% CI -52.44 to -51.00).There was a statistically significant increase of 4.44 in HDL-C (n=175, MD=4.44; 95% CI 3.79 to 5.10) in the group of obese male adolescents. Conclusion: Triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were analyzed to determine the effect of exercise interventions in obese adolescents according to gender differences. The results of this study can be used as basic data for the design of future exercise intervention studies, subjects, exercise methods, and intervention periods.
Purpose: This systematic literature review and meta-analysis explored extended reality (XR)-based pediatric nursing simulation programs and analyzed their effectiveness. Methods: A literature search was conducted between May 1 and 30, 2022 in the following electronic databases: MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), and CINAHL. The search period was from 2000 to 2022. In total, 6,095 articles were reviewed according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and 14 articles were selected for the final content analysis and 10 for the meta-analysis. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis program. Results: XR-based pediatric nursing simulation programs have increased since 2019. Studies using virtual reality with manikins or high-fidelity simulators were the most common, with six studies. The total effect size was statistically significant at 0.84 (95% confidence interval=0.50-1.19, z=4.82, p<.001). Conclusion: Based on the findings, we suggest developing standardized guidelines for the operation of virtual pediatric nursing simulation education and practice. Simultaneously, the application of more sophisticated research designs for effect measurement and the combined applications of various virtual simulation methods are needed to validate the most effective simulation methodology.
Objective: The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of extruded and unextruded feeding on the performance, milk composition, digestibility and ruminal fermentation of dairy cows through a meta-analysis. Methods: The database was compiled from 53 studies in Scopus and PubMed. The data were analyzed using a random effects model in OpenMEE software. Extruded feed was grouped as the experiment group while and the others as control group. The bias of publication in the main parameter of dairy performance was evaluated by a funnel plot. Results: The result showed that extruded feed enhanced the milk yield, dry matter and crude protein digestibility, butyrate and valerate acid production (p<0.05). Meanwhile, the extruded feed significantly decreased the milk fat and protein concentration (p<0.05). Also, the iso-butyrate and iso-valerate in unextruded feeding was significantly higher than the extruded feed (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded from the meta-analysis that extruded feed effectively improved the milk production and milk lactose concentration, dry matter and protein digestibility, but not the milk fat and protein concentration.
Background: Oral cancer drugs, particularly tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), are increasingly popular due to their convenience. However, they pose challenges like drug interactions, especially with medications like azole antifungals. While the FDA provides some guidance, more detailed information is needed to manage these interactions effectively. A meta-analysis was conducted to understand the impact of interactions between TKIs and azole antifungals on adverse events during clinical studies. Methods: A meta-analysis followed PRISMA guidelines. Data from PubMed, EMBASE, and references were searched until November 30, 2021. Inclusion criteria encompassed studies on TKI-antifungal interactions in English. Study selection and quality assessment were conducted by two independent investigators. Results: Out of 158 articles, 11 were selected for analysis. Combination therapy showed a slight increase in adverse events but was not statistically significant (OR 1.02, 95% CI 0.49-2.13, p=0.95). AUC and Cmax fold changes did not significantly impact adverse event development. Both itraconazole and ketoconazole showed no significant difference in adverse event development compared to TKI alone. Conclusions: Study finds TKI-DDI not significantly linked to AE increase; azole antifungal types not related to AE. Future DDI research crucial for drug development.
