  • This study has been performed to investigate the thermal performance of variable conductance heat pipe (VCHP) with screen meshed wick. The active length of condenser section in a VCHP is varied by non-condensible gas, which controls the operating temperature, and the heat capacity of VCHP is controlled by the operating temperature. In this study, numerical analysis of the VCHP based on the diffusion model of non-condensible gas is done for the thermal control performance of VCHP. Water is used as a working fluid and nitrogen as a control non-condensible gas in the copper tube. As a result, the thermal conductance of VCHP has been compared with that of constant conductance heat pipe (CCHP) corresponding to the variation of operating temperature.

  • In this paper, we present a performance analysis of large-scale multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems for wireless backhaul networks. We focus on fully connected N nodes in a wireless meshed and multi-hop network topology. We also consider a large number of antennas at both the receiver and transmitter. We investigate the transmission schemes to support fully connected N nodes for half-duplex and full-duplex transmission, analyze the achievable ergodic sum rate among N nodes, and propose a closed-form expression of the achievable ergodic sum rate for each scheme. Furthermore, we present numerical evaluation results and compare the resuts with closed-form expressions.

  • When a small gear rotates at a very high speed over 40,000 rpm, frictional heat is generated on the gear surfaces. Thermal deformations and stresses arising from frictional heat may lower the efficiency and fatigue life of the high-speed gear. Especially, such frictional heat has much stronger effects on the performance of millimeter-sized high-speed gears used for surgical and dental hand-pieces, due to a small surface area. An analytical equation was derived to calculate frictional temperature on a mating gear surface and conduction heat transfer analysis was performed. Thermal deformation and contact stresses were then calculated using FEM for gears used for medical hand-pieces. The contact stresses of the meshed gear and pinion increase by 19.4% and 16.4%, respectively, when the frictional thermal deformations are considered.

  • AVR parameter tuning for voltage control of generators has generally been done with the off-line open-circuit model of the synchronous generator. When the generator is connected on-line and operating with load the AVR operates in an entirely different environment from the open-circuit conditions. This paper describes a new method for AVR parameter tuning for on line conditions using SQP(Sequential Quadratic Programming) meshed with frequency response characteristics of linearized on-line system model. As the proposed method uses the un - line system model the tuned parameter sets show more optimal behavior in the on-line operating conditions. furthermore, as this method considers the performance indices that are needed for stable operation as constraints, AVR parameter sets that are tuned by this method could guarantee the stable performance, too.

  • In this paper, isolation strategies for improving broadband circuit performance and preventing noise arising from circuit component coupling are presented. Equivalent circuit parameters, including parasitic elements, are determined for capacitor and inductor structures. The effects of the relative position of the components with regard to a ground plane are considered in the equivalent circuits. Novel meshed ground structures are investigated to determine a configuration that improves the overall circuit performance.

  • A new method has been developed in this paper for automatic quadrilateral mesh generation for a two-dimensional domain. The method is named 'centering method' because it centers a point at the domain and then divides it into sub-domains using cutting lines from the center point. Each of the cutting lines is selected based on the criterion using the angles between the boundary of the domain and the cutting line. The decomposition of the domain into sub-domains is repeated until every subdomain has four or six nodes. Pre-defined splitters are used to divide six-node domains into quadrilateral elements depending on their configuration and presence on the boundary of the initial domain. Arbitrary domains are meshed as examples to verify the robustness of the new method.

  • One of the major issues that has to be carefully considered when upgrading current transport network capacity, is network scalability. A novel full-meshed connected ring expansion methodology and planning tool have been proposed. A 3 to 15 node expansion ring has been studied by demonstrating a dramatic system SNR improvement when the proposed planning tool was used. The results are that node output signal and optical SNR have been improved from -16dBm/10dB to +005dBm/21dB by NPOT.

  • Carbon nitride films were deposited on various substrates for humidity sensors with meshed electrode by reactive RF magnetron sputtering system. As the ratio of injected nitrogen was decreased, the sensitivity of sensor was increased. When the ratio of injected nitrogen was $50{\sim}70%$, the sample showed the best linearity. The sensor impedance changed from $95.4{\;}k{\Omega}$ to $2.1{\;}k{\Omega}$ in a relative humidity range of 5 % to 95 %. The humidity sensors based on silicon wafer revealed higher lineality and faster response than those of alumina or quartz substrates. The adsorption saturation time of the sample was about 80 sec, and its desorption time was about 90 sec.

  • During cold compaction processes loose powder is pressed under tooling action in order to produce complex shaped engineering components. Here, the analysis of the plastic deformation of granular packings is of fundamental importance to the development of computer simulation models. Powders can be idealized by packing discrete particles, where each particle is a sphere meshed with finite elements. The pressing of a body centered cubic packing was compared with numerical prediction and experimental data. The global response was expressed in force-displacement curve, and the accuracy of the numerical models analyzed for high relative densities up to 0.95.

  • Electric power distribution networks are prime examples of systems where a very high degree of reliability is expected. Reliability is the probability of a device or system performing its function adequately for the period of time intended and intented operating conditions intented. This paper shows that a better meshed distribution configuration over the case study of radial configuration distribution system was selected by comparing the indices obtained from EDSA\`s reliability worth assessment of distribution systems program.
