  • Recently, many high-rise apartment buildings using the box system, composed of only reinforced concrete walls and slabs, have been constructed. In residential buildings such as apartments, vibrations occur from various sources and these vibrations transfer to neighboring residential units through walls and slabs. It is necessary to use a refined finite element model for an accurate vibration analysis of shear wall building structures. But it would take significant amount of computational time and memory if the entire building structure were subdivided into a finer mesh. Therefore, an efficient analytical method, which has only translational DOFs perpendicular to walls or slabs by the matrix condensation technique, is proposed in this study to obtain accurate results in significantly reduced computational time. If all of the DOFs except those perpendicular to walls or slabs in the shear wall structure eliminated using the matrix condensation technique at a time, the computational time for the matrix condensation would be significant. Thus, the modeling technique using super elements and substructuring technique is proposed to reduce the computational time for the matrix condensation. Dynamic analysis of 3-story and 5-story shear wall example structures were performed to verify the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method. It was confirmed that the proposed method can provide the results with outstanding accuracy requiring significantly reduced computational time and memory.

  • An Optical Network-on-Chip(ONoC) based on silicon photonics is one of promising technology for next generation exascale computing architectures. Recent active researches on ONoC focus on improving bandwidth further and avoiding path collisions by using wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). However, the number of wavelengths used for the WDM increases linearly as the number of Processing Element (PE) increases in existing ONoCs which adopt centralized routing architecture. The problem will also arises growing cost of optical devices such as light switches and light sources and limits the scalability of ONoC due to the sinal loss caused by interference of distinct light sources. In this paper, we proposes a distributed routing architecture for ONoC which is based on 2D-mesh structure using WDM technique and present a method that minimize the required number of wavelengths exploiting the connectivity of communication. In comparison with existing centralized routing architectures, results show reduction by 56% of the number of wavelengths and 21% of the number of optical switches in $8{\times}8$ networks.

  • The finite element method (FEM), a powerful numerical modeling tool for solving various engineering problems, is frequently applied to three-dimensional (3-D) modeling thanks to its capability of discretizing and simulating the shape of model with finite number of elements. Considering the accuracy of the solution and computing time in modeling of engineering problems, it is preferable to construct physical continuity and simplify mesh system. Although there exist systematic mesh generation systems for arbitrary shaped model, it is hard to model a simple cylinder in terms of 3-D coordinate system especially in the vicinity of the central axis. In this study I adopt cylindrical coordinate system for modeling the 3-D model space and define the origin of the coordinates with mathematically clear coordinate transformation. Since we can simulate the whole space with hexahedral elements, the cylindrical coordinate system is effective in handling the 3-D model structure. The 3-D do resistivity modeling scheme developed in this study provides basie principle for borehole-to-surface resistivity survey, which can be a useful tool for the application to environmental problem.

  • The expansion of double-income households is increasing the social interest in child care. In particular, children's entrance into elementary school is considered to be the main cause of women's career break as well as childbirth. This study proposes an optimal location selection method for caring facilities for elementary school students. As a candidate for care facilities, we selected existing child care facilities. We proposed a dual structure evaluation method that considers locational characteristics as well as mathematical optimization when selecting the optimal location. The experiment was conducted in Songpa-gu, Seoul. A total of 36 optimal locations were selected from a total of 258 candidate facilities. First, the evaluation criteria were established using public data, and the primary candidate facilities were selected by ranking the location scores. At this time mesh resampling method was used to integrate various public data into one. Next, the final care facilities were selected using the p-median method. The results chosen are not only the optimal location considering total distance but also satisfy various location criteria considering the characteristics of the care facility. We expect that the proposed method will contribute to public data convergence or utilization and it will be helpful for policy decision when selecting the optimal location for public facilities.

  • Finite element modeling of composite structures may be cumbersome due to complex distributions of reinforcements. In this paper, an efficient scheme is proposed that can generate periodic meshes for the composite structures. Regular meshes with hexahedral finite elements are first prepared, and the elements are then trimmed to fit external surfaces of reinforcements in the composite structures. The trimmed hexahedral finite elements located at interfaces between the matrix and the reinforcements correspond to polyhedral finite elements, which allow an arbitrary number of nodes and faces in the elements. Because the trimming process is consistently conducted by means of consistent algorithms, the elements of the reinforcements are automatically compatible with those of the matrices. With the additional consideration of periodicity of reinforcements in a representative volume element(RVE), the proposed scheme provides periodic meshes in an efficient manner, which are compatible for each pair of periodic boundaries of the RVE. Therefore, periodic boundary conditions for the RVE are enforced straightforwardly. Numerical examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme for finite element modeling of complex composite structures.

  • In the island areas where system connection with the commercial power grid is difficult, it is quite important to find a method to efficiently manage energy produced with independent microgrids. In this paper, a prosumer management system for P2P power transaction was realized through the testing the power meter and the response rate of the collected data for the power produced in the small-scale microgrids in which hybrid models of solar power and wind power were implemented. The power network of the microgrid prosumer was composed of mesh structure and the P2P power transaction was tested through the power meter and DC power transmitter in the off-grid sites which were independently constructed in three places. The measurement values of the power meter showed significant results of voltage (average): 380V + 0.9V, current (average): + 0.01A, power: 1000W (-1W) with an error range within ±1%. Stabilization of the server was also confirmed with the response rate of 0.32 sec. for the main screen, 2.61 sec. for the cumulative power generation, and 0.11 sec for the power transaction through the transmission of 50 data in real time. Therefore, the proposed system was validated as a P2P power transaction system that can be used as an independent network without transmitted by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).

  • Since 2019, research on microplastics has been actively conducted around the world, so analyzing the differences between domestic and foreign microplastics research can be a milestone in establishing the direction of domestic research. In this study, microplastic papers from KCI and WoS were extracted and the differences between domestic and foreign studies were analyzed using a network analysis methodology based on big data such as author keyword co-occurrence word analysis, thesis co-citation analysis, and author co-citation analysis. As a result of the analysis, the analysis of the research topic confirmed that studies that could affect the human body and the treatment of microplastics in daily life were additionally needed in Korea. In the analysis of the depth of thesis citation that examines the quality of research, it was found that Korea was still insufficient at 2.25 overseas and 1.39 in Korea. In the analysis of the composition of the joint research front, where various researchers participate and share information, 3 out of 22 clusters in Korea are Star type. In the case of overseas, all 19 clusters have a mesh structure, so it was confirmed that information flow and sharing were insufficient in specific research fields in Korea. These research results confirmed the need to expand the research topic of microplastics, improve the quality of research, and improve the research promotion system in which various researchers participate. In addition, if the automation program is developed based on topic modeling, it will be possible to build a system capable of real-time analysis.

  • In February 2008, high storm waves due to a developed atmospheric low pressure system propagating from the west off Hokkaido, Japan, to the south and southwest throughout the East Sea (ES) caused extensive damages along the central coast of Japan and along the east coast of Korea. This study consists of two parts. In the first part, we estimate extreme storm wave characteristics in the Toyama Bay where heavy coastal damages occurred, using a non-hydrostatic meteorological model and a spectral wave model by considering the extreme conditions for two factors for wind wave growth, such as wind intensity and duration. The estimated extreme significant wave height and corresponding wave period were 6.78 m and 18.28 sec, respectively, at the Fushiki Toyama. In the second part, we perform numerical experiments on wave-structure interaction in the Fushiki Port, Toyama Bay, where the long North-Breakwater was heavily damaged by the storm waves in February 2008. The experiments are conducted using a non-linear shallow-water equation model with adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) and wet-dry scheme. The estimated extreme storm waves of 6.78 m and 18.28 sec are used for incident wave profile. The results show that the Fushiki Port would be overtopped and flooded by extreme storm waves if the North-Breakwater does not function properly after being damaged. Also the storm waves would overtop seawalls and sidewalls of the Manyou Pier behind the North-Breakwater. The results also depict that refined meshes by AMR method with wet-dry scheme applied capture the coastline and coastal structure well while keeping the computational load efficiently.

  • This paper examines the flexure behavior of FRP-concrete composite structure that can replace conventional reinforced concrete structure types. In order to investigate the structural performance and behavioral characteristics in numerical analysis means, ABAQUS, a general purpose finite element analysis program, was utilized for nonlinear finite element analysis, and the various variables and their influences were analyzed and compared with experimental results to suggest values optimized to this composite structure. The concrete damage plasticity model and Euro code for concrete were used. In the implicit finite element analysis, the convergence was ambiguous when geometrical and material nonlinearity were large, so the explicit finite element analysis used in this study was deemed to be appropriate. From the comparison with the experiment about concrete damaged plasticity model, 20mm for the mesh size, $30^{\circ}$ for the dilation angle, $100Nmm/mm^2$ for the value of fracture energy, 0.667 for Kc value, and the consideration of damage parameter were suggested believed to be appropriate. The numerical model suggested in this study was able to imitate the ultimate load and cracking pattern very well; therefore, it is expected to be utilized in research of various new material composite structures.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of elastic modulus of restorative materials and the number of interfaces of post and core systems on the stress distribution of three differently restored endodontically treated maxillary second premolars using 3D FE analysis. Model 1, 2 was restored with a stainless steel or glass fiber post and direct composite resin. A PFG or a sintered alumina crown was considered. Model 3 was restored by EndoCrown. An oblique 500 N was applied on the buccal (Load A) and palatal (Load B) cusp. The von Mises stresses in the coronal and root structure of each model were analyzed using ANSYS. The elastic modulus of the definitive restorations rather than the type of post and core system was the primary factor that influenced the stress distribution of endodontically treated maxillary premolars. The stress concentration at the coronal structure could be lowered through the use of definitive restoration of high elastic modulus. The stress concentration at the root structure could be lowered through the use of definitive restoration of low elastic modulus.
