CYTOGENETIC ANALYSIS OF CHILDREN WITH AUTISM (자폐장애 환자의 세포유전학적 분석)

  • Twenty nine children with autism and thirty children with mental retardation were examined for association between autism and chromosomal disorders including fragile X. The peripheral blood was cultured in Medium 199 with methotrexate and without methorexate for 70 hours. Thirty metaphase cells in each case were karyotyped in all samples. Chromosomal abnormalities were found in 11 cases(37.9%) of autistic disorder and 10 cases (33.3%) of mental retardation, but in none of fragile(X)(q27.3) from all cases. Chromosomal abnormalities were present on group A, C, D and X in autistic disorder and on group A, B, C, D, E and X in mental retardation. No specific chromosomal region was found in both autistic disorder and mental retardation. Types of chromosomal disorders were only fragile and/or gap but no numerical abnormality was present in all cases. Number of cells which revealed fragile sites were 31 cells(3.6%) out of 870 cells in autistic disorder and 29 cells(3.2%) out of 900 cells in mental retardation Number of cells which revealed gaps were 43 cells(4.9%) out of 870 cells in autistic disorder and 35 cells(3.9%) out of 900 cells in mental retardation. Autistic disorder may not be directly correlated with fragile X but with nonspecific chromosomal breakages from these data.

A Study on Work Experience of the Life Rehabilitation Teacher in Residence Institution of Mental Retardation (지적장애인거주시설 생활재활교사의 직무수행 경험에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the job experience of the life rehabilitation teacher who is working in the residence with mental retardations. The purpose of this study is to suggest the intervention plan that can enhance the capacity of the living rehabilitation teachers and seek improvement points of residence institution of mental retardation. The results of this study show the meaning of experience in the job performance of the welfare facility workers. Through in -depth interviews through the candid stories of the research participants during the research, meaningful results could be obtained. There are 7 workers who participated in the study who worked in the institute for more than a year. Four sections are categorized made of 15 sub-categories constituted by 60 subjects collected by significant worker's answers. Four categories are the beginning of life rehabilitation teacher, adaptation as a life rehabilitation teacher, the pain of life rehabilitation teacher, the growth and the wish. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the improvement of the professionalism of the life rehabilitation teacher. It will also contribute to the development of the operation of residential facilities for people with mental retardation.

Anesthetic management of a patient with chromosome 6p duplication: a case report

  • Chromosome 6p duplication is very rare and clinically characterized by short stature, mental retardation, and congenital heart diseases. Patients with mental retardation may present with poor oral health conditions. Dental treatment may need to be performed under general anesthesia in such patients. Our case report deals with induction of general anesthesia to a patient with chromosome 6p duplication, for dental treatment. The selection of a nasotracheal tube of an appropriate size, because of the patient's short stature, was especially important for airway management. In the present case, the patient with chromosome 6p duplication was intubated with a nasotracheal tube, which was not age-matched but adapted to the height and physique of the patient.

Comparison in Negation of the Children with Mental Retardation and Normal Children (정신지체아동과 일반아동의 부정하기 비교)

  • In this study, children with MR were compared with normal children in overall production rate and production types of six semantic categories of negation. For this purpose, 10 children with MR and another 10 language-age matched normal children were selected. The results of this study were as the following: First, the children with MR showed significantly low overall production rate, compared with normal children. Two groups demonstrated signifiant differences in denial, disability, ignorance, prohibition and rejection except nonexistence. Second, in production type, the children with MR tended to use more gestures, and in comparison, normal children used more 'mixed types'.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide an instrument of architectural programming in dwelling and facilities design for the mentally retarded. To do this the normal daily life activities have been analyzed and find the living characteristics who live in mental rehabilitation facilities. Generally, mentally retarded people have below IQ.75, and their normal daily life and social adjustment have some problem. Additionally, multiple disability existence and the difference of disability level have great difference in their living activities depend on person. For this research, People who live in 4 rehabilitation facilities in Daegu, Kyungbuk were investigated. It is particularly necessally space organization for sever retardation and multiple disability children, mild or moderate retardation children and adults to analyze their behavior of moving, stool, meal, and living in a group.

  • This paper analyzed effects Web-Based cooperation Learning have on improvement in Social Adaptability and problematic behavior, using Web-Based cooperation Learning system that is designed for Mental retardation children. Is Made Teaching Design according to students level, based on elementary school Bareunsaenghwal subject. Teaching and Learning program that is going with flash and PPT Embodied is. Designed to bulletin the evaluation data for cooperation studying after studying a part of the lesson. Verification of learning effect went with experimental group and comparison group consisted of groups of 8. Students studied the Internet web data and Teaching material paper and they took pencil test. As a result, point of post-inspection was higher than that of pre-inspection. Web-Based cooperation Learning is confirmed to be effective on Social Adaptability and problematic behavior improvement.

  • The Laurence Moon-Bardet Biedl syndrome is characterized by obesity, mental retardation, visual impairment with retinitis pigmentosa, polydactyly, hypogonadism and renal manifestations. We experienced an 11 years old female with Laurence Moon-Baret Biedl syndrome associated chronic renal failure. She was diagnosed to have LMB syndrom according to the clinical manifestations of polydactyly on hands and feet, mental retardation, obesity, retinitis pigmentosa and chronic renal failure. She is on maintenance hemodialysis now.

  • In the management of the child with mental retardation, the physical therapist is challenged to use various skills. The many complex and persistent difficulties encountered by retarded children often require innovative methods physical therapy. These methods must incorporate not only he basic principles of physical therapy, but also an understanding of the teaching and learning as they relate to the mentally retarded person. Movement Play needs to parents and other professionals requires not only technical expertise on the part of the therapist, but also psychosocial skills and the ability to be a sensitive listener and teacher. We can help the mentally retarded child strive to attain goals in life.

  • Aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) is a rare congenital disorder characterized by skin defects involving the epidermis, dermis, subcutaneous tissue, bone, and sometimes dura. It commonly affects the scalp in approximately 70% of cases, but the neck, trunk, and the extremities can also be affected. ACC can occur either as an isolated condition or associated with other anomalies and congenital syndromes, and it can be acquired either genetically or sporadically. Morbidity and mortality are associated with the defects of skull bone, dura, and other multiple anomalies. We herein report the case of a female infant, with a large scalp defect accompanied by a skull defect noted at birth, who developed mental retardation in the preschool years.
