This study classified respondents by consumption value and analyzed differences in the purchase behavior of men's suits among consumption value groups. Frequency analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, and analysis of variance were conducted in order to analyze research problems. Factor analysis results showed that male consumption values included safety-oriented value, individuality-oriented value, others-oriented value, pleasure-oriented value, aesthetic-oriented value, low price-oriented value, community-oriented value, utility-oriented value, innovation-oriented value, and self-expression oriented value. The study divided respondents into personal satisfaction pursuit group, beauty & functionality pursuit group, individuality pursuit group, and others-oriented & low cost preference group according to consumption value. There were significant differences in selection criteria for men's suit (product image, physical properties of product, and brand name), selection reasons of brand (fashion & ostentation, individuality, and refinement), store attributes (store environment/salesperson service, reputation/additional service, and product assortment/shopping convenience).
This study compared the domestic and international commercial design patterns and domestic consumer preferences for wetsuit designs to develop a user-centered wetsuit design. An analysis of the domestic and international design elements for 1,802 wetsuits sold online over the past three years showed that the most frequent shapes, dominant colors, and patterns were the same, as consumers tended to buy full suits that were black or had geometric patterns. Dominant colors and assort/accent colors were different from the survey results. Men's wetsuits used fewer colors and patterns than women's suits. Domestic wetsuits used fewer patterns than those sold abroad; in addition, colors were applied differently. A consumer preference survey conducted on 213 male and female consumers in their 20s and their 50s in Korea indicated that 53.5% of respondents were the most affected by the shape when choosing a wetsuit design. The preferred color scheme was two colors, with a vivid tone used as an accent color. The factor analysis results on wetsuit design preference uncovered the six factors: individuality, display, function, acceptance, imitation, and comparison. An independent sample t-test also showed that men perceive individuality, imitations, and comparison factors higher than women.
The purpose of the study was to investigate general characteristics of brand images of men's wear manufacturers and differences in their brand images according to characteristics of their brands and their merchandise. Thus, this study was to be an exploratory study to search apparel niche-market in men's wear market for the marketers by exploring trends of brand images of men's wear manufacturers. The questionnaire consisted of questions on brand images and characteristics of men's wear manufacturers and their merchandise. The subjects were to evaluate their brand images and rated on 5 point Likert-type scales of 36 adjectives. For the survey, the subjects were 100 employees (62 merchandisers, and 24 designers, etc.) who are employed by men's wear manufacturers which have national brands, designer brands, license brands, import brands or private brands. The SAS PC+ package was used to calculate factor analysis, mean, ttest, ANOVA, Duncan's test, and Tukey's test. The results from the study were as follows: 1) High scores of mean of brand images were simple, prestigious, mannish, and dynamic. 2) The brand images of men’s wear manufacturers were divided into 10 factors which explain 73.91% of the whole image. 3) There were significant differences in brand images according to types of brands, price lines of merchandise and ages of target consumers. 4) There were significant differences in brand images according to categories of apparel (suits vs. casual clothing), types of suits, and types of casual clothing. 5) There were significant correlations between brand images, such as simple image to conservative image, prestigious image and chic image, prestigious image to conservative image, chic image and simple image, etc.
Changes in male roles and lifestyle in recent years have brought about an increased interest in appearance and apparel for men. The purpose of this study was to classify consumers into categories based on style of men's business suits and describe the resulting categories in terms of lifestyle, clothing behavior, appearance and demographic variables. Data were obtained from questionnaires completed by 513 consumers 20-69 years of age living in Seoul, and analyzed by factor analysis, multiple discriminant analysis, one-way ANOVA, CROSSTAB, and S-N-K test. Resulting categories of consumers were labeled as formal, semi-formal and casual. Descrip-tive profiles of the three categories were developed differently by 2 lifestyle factors (positive opinion leadership, social participation), 1 clothing factor (conformity), 2 appearance factors (conservative, energetic), and 2 demographic variables (age, marital status). The semi-formal type of man is significantly different from the two other types in his group activities that require social participation and opinion leadership. The formal type is significantly different from the two other types in his conformity in clothing and conservative appearance. The majority of formal and semi-formal types of men were 25-39 years of age and married, while the casual type was younger and unmarried.

The results from the study were as follows: 1) The elements of fashion adoption of men's wear manufacturers were divided into 4 factors (clolr/fabric, silhouette/fashion image, detail/item coordination, accessories) which explained 83.61% of the whole of factors. 2) The highest score of mean of fashion adoption factors was fabric/color, but the lowest was accessory factor. 3) There were significant positive correlations between fashion adoption factors except between fabric/color and accessories. 4) There were significant differences in the level of fashion adoption according to types of brands and ages of target consumers. 5) There were significant differences in the level of fashion adoption according to the categories of apparel (suits vs. casual clothing) and types of suits and casual wear.

The purpose of this study was to develop the pattern of scuba diving suits for local men in their thirties by using 3D body-scanned data. It is widely acknowledged that draping method is more suitable than flat pattern for body shape as most scuba diving suits in the market are designed to fit the body tightly in a single piece with sleeves and legs. A dummy for this study was made based on men's standard clothing sizes in 30's which was derived from data of 2004 Size Korea. Accordingly, the basic body block was built upon through draping method. Next, a scuba diving suit was made from neoprene, followed by fit and the clothing pressure tests in order to evaluate the diving suit's functionality and comfort. The results of the fit test had high points of 4.33 in majority parts except armhole and crotch ones. In comparison of clothing pressure between wearer and dummy, the clothing pressure of wearer was indicated relatively low in most parts other than armhole and knee, resulting from cushion function of skin and muscle and high stretch of fabric.
The purpose of the study is to develop the competitive swimming suit design with Korean traditional images. which excels in dimension of functionality, aesthetics, and symbolism. To accomplish this study, first. a theoretical examination about Korean image was added, on the basis of the practical research about professional swimmers' preferences as well as the theoretical research about the history of swimming suits and the qualifications of competitive swimming suits in the prior study. Next, practical designing was performed to achieve the creative designs according to Lamb & Kallal's design process. and the superiority of the newly designed swimming suits was evaluated by using Grant's alpha-beta model. The results of this study can be summarized as follows : First. in the problem apprehension stage. the need for swimming suit designs with Korean traditional images for professional swimmers was acknowledged, and three major criteria. which are functionality, aesthetics. and symbolism has been verified. Second. in the preliminary brainstorming stage, considerable amounts of data for the design concept considering the criteria above have been gathered. The athletic one-piece for women and the brief for men in style and nylon/lycra in fabric were used in the aspect of functionality. And the S Korean traditional colors in color and Tae-guk motive and others in pattern were selected to apply Korean traditional images in the aspects of aesthetics and symbolism. Finally, the 13 series of creative designs with 4 themes( l17pieces in total) have been suggested. Third, in the design improvement stage. after the preference to each design was surveyed, reformation of the designs was arranged on the basis of the results. Fourth, in the prototyping stage. the 17 actual prototypes, including 13 pieces for women and 4 pieces for men were produced. Fifth. in the evaluation stage. the evaluation procedure using Grant's alpha-beta model was performed. As a result, the newly designed swimming suits were rated above other existing ones in all three aspects of functionality, aesthetics, and symbolism.
The purpose of this study was to determine the thermal characteristics of men's suits ensembles and their fabrics. For the study, 100% wool fabrics were woven with various fabric structure, fabric density and yam count and With the use of these, 12 men's suits were made with the same design. Physical characteristics that affect thermal transport properties, including drapery, cover factor; bulk density, keeping warmth ratio, vapor permeability, air permeability and porosity of the fabrics were measured. In addition, thermal resistance of men's suit ensembles, including Y-shirts, inner wear and socks was measured on the thermal manikin in the environmental chamber. The result of the study was as follows: 1. In terms of fabric structure, keeping warmth ratio of plain woven fabrics was higher than those of twill and satin woven fabrics and also, vapor and air permeability and porosity of plain woven fabrics were higher than those of twill and satin woven fabrics. 2. The result showed that thermal resistance of 12 ensembles were in the range of 0.77clo~0.97clo. 3. There was little correlation between woven condition such as, including structure, fabric density and yam count and thermal resistance of ensembles.
