This paper describes the characteristics of lightning-induced voltages on subscriber telecommunication lines in Korea. Lightning parameters such as peak voltage, rise time, decay time, and steepness of the wave front were statistically analyzed from the measured results obtained using a waveform memory system. An induced voltage measurement system was also developed and installed at 286 sites in Korea to collect the induced voltage data. The distributions of lightning-induced voltages were also analyzed using these data.

In this paper, we obtained the monodomain alignment of nematic liquid Crystal(NLC) in the cell fabricated by transcription alignment method on polyimide(PI) surface with side chain. It is considered that the LC alignment produced by the transcription alignment method is attributed to a memory effect of the NLC on PI surfaces. Also we observed that the generated pretilt angle of NLC is about $3.7^{\circ}$ with transcription alignment on PI surface. Next, we measured that the voltage-transmittance characteristics of transcription-aligned TN-LCD are almost same compared to rubbing-aligned TN-LCD. Also, we measured that the curve of transcription-aligned TN-LCD is less sharp than that of the rubbing-aligend TN-LCD in the decay time characteristics. It is considered that the response time characteristics of transcription-aligned TN-LCD are attributed to the weak anchoring strength between the LC molecules and the polymer surface.
The double nitride layer Metal Nitride Oxide Semiconductor(MNOS) structures were fabricated by variating both gas ratio and nitride thickness, and by duplicating nitride deposited and one nitride layer MNOS structure to improve nonvolatile memory characteristics of MNOS structures by Low Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition(LPCVD) method. The nonvolatile memory characteristics of write-in, erase, memory retention and degradation of Bias Temperature Stress(BTS) were investigated by the homemade automatic .DELTA. $V_{FB}$ measuring system. In the trap density double nitride layer structures were higher by 0.85*10$^{16}$$m^{-2}$ than one nitride layer structure, and the AVFB with oxide field was linearly increased. However, one nitride layer structure was linearly increased and saturated above 9.07*10$^{8}$ V/m in oxide field. In the erase behavior, the hole injection from silicon instead of the trapped electron emission was observed, and also it was highly dependent upon the pulse amplitude and the pulse width. In the memory retentivity, double nitrite layer structures were superior to one nitride layer structure, and the decay rate of the trapped electron with increasing temperature was low. At increasing the number on BTS, the variance of AVFB of the double nitride layer structures was smaller than that of one nitride layer structure, and the trapped electron retention rate was high. In this paper, the double nitride layer structures were turned out to be useful in improving the nonvolatile memory characteristics.
The duration of spatial memory in cattle is potentially important for grazing management. The ability of livestock to remember the location of food patches may lead to uneven range use. In this experiment, how long cattle are able to remember food locations was determined. Six steers were used to conduct this study in a pasture with an 8 row by 8 column grid of 64 plastic containers 5 meters apart. Four randomly chosen containers were loaded with feed pellets. All steers were trained to find the loaded locations until a minimum of empty containers were visited. After this initial training, each steer was tested at 5, 10, 20 and 48 days post-training. Total number of visits (TV), number of containers visited (NC), the ratio of loaded containers (LC) to NC were recorded. Once the steers learned the locations of loaded containers NC did not increase with time since last training up to 48 days (p>0.05). Logarithmic transformation of NC (LNC) was 0.70 and 0.80 for the control and 48 day treatments, respectively. Steers were equally efficient in locating containers with feed. The steers also showed that their ability in locating food was much better than expected by chance (Z>1.62). Findings of the present study do not suggest using spatial memory decay as a tool to promote better grazing distribution. Because steers remembered food locations accurately for at least 48 days.
Recently in-memory data stream processing has been actively applied to various subjects such as query processing, OLAP, data mining, i.e., frequent item sets, association rules, clustering. However, finding regular periodic patterns of events in an infinite data stream gets less attention. Most researches about finding periods use autocorrelation functions to find certain changes in periodic patterns, not period itself. And they usually find periodic patterns in time-series databases, not in data streams. Literally a period means the length or era of time that some phenomenon recur in a certain time interval. However in real applications a data set indeed evolves with tiny differences as time elapses. This kind of a period is called as a pseudo-period. This paper proposes a new scheme called FPMH (Finding Periods using Multiple Hash functions) algorithm to find such a set of pseudo-periods over a data stream based on multiple hash functions. According to the type of pseudo period, this paper categorizes FPMH into three, FPMH-E, FPMH-PC, FPMH-PP. To maximize the performance of the algorithm in the data stream environment and to keep most recent periodic patterns in memory, we applied decay mechanism to FPMH algorithms. FPMH algorithm minimizes the usage of memory as well as processing time with acceptable accuracy.
In this paper, the data retention characteristics were analyzed to find out the thickness effect on the trap energy distribution of silicon nitride in the silicon-oxide-nitride-oxide-silicon (SONOS) flash memory devices. The nitride films were prepared by low pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD). The flat band voltage shift in the programmed device was measured at the elevated temperatures to observe the thermal excitation of electrons from the nitride traps in the retention mode. The trap energy distribution was extracted using the charge decay rates and the experimental results show that the portion of the shallow interface trap in the total nitride trap amount including interface and bulk trap increases as the nitride thickness decreases.
Due to the shift in paradigm from passive control to adaptive control, smart tuned mass dampers (STMDs) have received considerable attention for vibration control in tall buildings and bridges. STMDs are superior to tuned mass dampers (TMDs) in reducing the response of the primary structure. Unlike TMDs, STMDs are capable of accommodating the changes in primary structure properties, due to damage or deterioration, by tuning in real time based on a local feedback. In this paper, a novel adaptive-length pendulum (ALP) damper is developed and experimentally verified. Length of the pendulum is adjusted in real time using a shape memory alloy (SMA) wire actuator. This can be achieved in two ways i) by changing the amount of current in the SMA wire actuator or ii) by changing the effective length of current carrying SMA wire. Using an instantaneous frequency tracking algorithm, the dominant frequency of the structure can be tracked from a local feedback signal, then the length of pendulum is adjusted to match the dominant frequency. Effectiveness of the proposed ALP-STMD mechanism, combined with the STFT frequency tracking control algorithm, is verified experimentally on a prototype two-storey shear frame. It has been observed through experimental studies that the ALP-STMD absorbs most of the input energy associated in the vicinity of tuned frequency of the pendulum damper. The reduction of storey displacements up to 80 % when subjected to forced excitation (harmonic and chirp-signal) and a faster decay rate during free vibration is observed in the experiments.
Though limited, Model Human Processor (MHP) has been used to explain the complex users' behaviors during human-computer interactions in a simplified manner. MHP consists of perceptual, cognitive and motor systems, each with processors and memories interacting with each other in serial or parallel mode. The important parameters of memory include the storage capacity, the decay time, and the code type of a memorized item. The important parameter of a processor is the cycle time. Using these features of the model, this study developed a computerized cognitive process simulator to predict the cognitive process time of a class match task process. An experimental validity test result showed that the mean prediction time for cognitive process of the class match task simulated 50 times by the simulator was consistent with the mean cognitive process time of the same task performed by 37 subjects. Animation of the data flow during the class match task simulation will help understand the invisible human cognitive process.

According to the Policy for ' e-Korea construction ' of Korean government, investment of information system during the Past decay are dramatically increasing. More than a half of this investment is cost of hardware infrastructure. So, accurate hardware sizing are essential for higher efficiency of investment. Accurate hardware sizing benefits are generally viewed in toms of the avoidance of excess equipment and lost opportunity costs by not being able to support business needs. Unfortunately, however, little research effort to make the hardware sizing methodology are doing. We propose a sizing method for information system in public sector. This method is determinated empirical study that are gathering and analyzing cases, making method and reviewing expert. Finally we are proposed calculating method for hardware components that is CPU, memory, internal and external disk according to the application system type which is OLTP, Web, WAS. Our study certainly will act as a catalyst for higher investment-efficiency of the future information programs in public sector.
Background: Regardless of countries, the myth that rain makes the body ache has been worded in various forms, and a number of studies have been reported to investigate this. However, these studies, which depended on the patient's experience or memory, had obvious limitations. Google Trends is a big data analysis service based on search terms and viewing videos provided by Google LLC, and attempts to use it in various fields are continuing. In this study, we endeavored to introduce the 'value as a research tool' of the Google Trends, that has emerged along with technological advancements, through research on 'whether toothaches really occur frequently on rainy days'. Methods: Keywords were selected as objectively as possible by applying web crawling and text mining techniques, and the keyword "bi" meaning rain in Korean was added to verify the reliability of Google Trends data. The correlation was statistically analyzed using precipitation and temperature data provided by the Korea Meteorological Agency and daily search volume data provided by Google Trends. Results: Keywords "chi-gwa", "chi-tong", and "chung-chi" were selected, which in Korean mean 'dental clinic', 'toothache', and 'tooth decay' respectively. A significant correlation was found between the amount of precipitation and the search volume of tooth decay. No correlation was found between precipitation and other keywords or other combinations. It was natural that a very significant correlation was found between the amount of precipitation, temperature, and the search volume of "bi". Conclusion: Rain seems to actually be a cause of toothache, and if objective keyword selection is premised, Google Trends is considered to be very useful as a research tool in the future.
