해수담수화 공정에서 역삼투막의 유기 막오염에 대한 SWRO 막의 화학세정 효율 평가 (Evaluation on Chemical Cleaning Efficiency of Organic-fouled SWRO Membrane in Seawater Desalination Process)

  • Membrane fouling is an unavoidable phenomenon in operation of seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) and major obstacle for economic and efficient operation. When fouling occurs on the membrane surface, the permeate flux is decreased, on the contrary, the trans-membrane pressure (TMP) is increased, therefore operation and maintaining costs and potential damage of membranes are able to the pivotal risks of the process. Chemical cleaning process is essential to prevent interruptions for effective RO membrane filtration process. This study focused on proper chemical cleaning condition for polyamide RO membranes of 4 companies. Several chemical agents were applied for chemical cleaning under numbers of operating conditions. Additionally, a monitoring tool of FEEM as autopsy analysis method is adapted for the prediction of organic bio-fouling.

막여과지에 의한 무단체 이트륨-90에 관한 연구 (Studies on Carrier-Free Yttrium-90 with Membrane Filters)

  • The state of carrier-free yttrium-90 has been studied by filtration method with membrane filters. The studies include the adsorption ratio of carrier-free yttrium-90 on membrane filters by the change of PH, concentration of yttrium-90, and the pore size of member filters. The adsorption followed to Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The adsorption mechanism was proposed by the adsorption of transient state as an ionic form of $Y^{3+}$, and the experimental results were explained satisfactorily by the proposal. The adsorbed state of yttrium was present in the forms of yttrium such as $Y^{3+},\;Y(OH)^{3+},\;Y(OH)^{2+},\;Y(OH)^+_3,\;and\;Y(OH)_3$,and the existing ratios of the forms of yttrium were sharply changed by PH. It seems to be valid tha the carrier-free yttrium-90 exists mostly in $Y^{3+}$ state.

침지형 막분리 활성 슬러지법에 따른 막 오염 특성 (Characteristics of Fouling in a Submerged Membrane Bioreactor Activated Sludge Process)

  • 상전환 방법에 의해 PVC계 MF막을 제조하여 환성슬러지가 포함된 폐수 처리용 MBR (Membrane bioreactor)에 적용하였다. 막 제조시 첨가제의 농도에 따른 막 특성을 확인한 결과 첨가제의 농도가 증가할수록 기공 크기가 증가하였으며 친수화도 역시 향상되었다. MBR의 내부 환경변화에 따른 실험을 통해 제조한 막의 투과 성능 및 막에 발생하는 막 오염 거동을 조사하였다. 사상균의 생성으로 인한 Sludge bulking 시 막 오염 현상이 가속화되었으며, 이 때 각 시료의 Rc을 조사한 결과 CP-0 > CP-1.0 > CP-1.5의 순으로 나타났고, 정상상태와 비교하여 sludge busking시 Rc값은 3.5~7배가지 증가하였다. 표면 특성이나 투과 유속면에서 PVP 1.5 wt% (CP-1.5)를 첨가하였을 때가 가장 적합하였다. 평균 투과 유속은 시료 모두에서 12(${\pm}$2) L/$m^2$hr 정도였으며, 평균 COD 제거율은 98.8% 정도를 나타내었다 MBR 운전에 있어 sludge bulking시 사상균이 차지하는 비율과 미생물의 모양과 크기에 따라 막 오염은 가속화 되었고, 투과 유속 감소를 보였다. 따라서 막 여과 특성은 막의 친수화 정도와 MBR 내부 미생물의 성장 조건과 환경에 의해 결정되는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • This paper proposes a modified Ludzack-Ettinger (MLE) type membrane bioreactor (MBR) as a method of treatment for wastewater from food waste disposer. Micro-membrane filtration allows for an extremely low concentration of suspended solids in the effluent. The effluent of the reactor in question is characterized by a relatively high level of non-biodegradable organics, containing a substantial amount of soluble microbial products and biomass. Results obtained in this paper by measurement of membrane fouling are consistent with biomass concentration in the reactor, as opposed to chemical oxygen demand (COD). The MLE process is shown to be effective for the treatment of wastewater with a high COD/N ratio of 20, resulting in are markedly high total nitrogen removal efficiency. Denitrification could be improved at a higher internal recycle ratio. Despite the low concentration of influent phosphorus, the phosphorus concentration of the outflow is seen to be relatively high. This is because outflow phosphorous concentration is related to COD consumption, and the process operates at along solids retention time.

  • Tow types of supports were made using $\alpha$-Al2O3 powder and optimum conditions to prepare for supports were provided. Sol solution for coating was synthesized by sol-gel method with aluminum isopropoxide. Supports were coated and heat-treatemented, where the thickness of coating layer was controlled by dipping time. Flux and permeability of alumina membrane were measured by liquid and gas filtration apparatus and these were compared with the provided model. It was confirmed that the coating was done very well without micro~crack and defect.

  • Membrane fouling is an unavoidable phenomenon and major obstacle in the economic and efficient operation under sea water reverse osmosis (SWRO). When fouling occurs on the membrane surface, the permeate quantity and quality decrease, the trans-membrane pressure (TMP) and operation costs increase, and the membrane may be damaged. Therefore, chemical cleaning process is important to prevent permeate flow from decreasing in RO membrane filtration process. This study focused on proper chemical cleaning condition for Shuaibah RO plant in Saudi Arabia. Several chemical agents were used for chemical cleaning at different contact time and concentrations of chemicals. Also autopsy analysis was performed using LOI, FT-IR, FEEM, SEM and EDX for assessment of fouling. Specially, FEEM analysis method was thought as analyzing and evaluating tool available for selection of the first applied chemical cleaning dose to predict potential organic fouling. Also, cleaning time should be considered by the condition of RO membrane process since the cleaning time depends on the membrane fouling rate. If the fouling exceeds chemical cleaning guideline, to perfectly remove the fouling, certainly, the chemical cleaning is increased with membrane fouling rate influenced by raw water properties, pre-treatment condition and the point of the chemical cleaning operation time. Also choice of cleaning chemicals applied firstly is important.

Reactive modification of PVC membranes for the improved performance

  • Poly vinyl chloride (PVC) was chemically modified, and used for ultrafiltration to analyze the performance. Non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) method was used to prepare membranes. The neat PVC membrane was casted and used as a control membrane. Modified membrane was prepared by reacting PVC with ethanolamine (EA) in the casting solution (labeled as CM-PVC). Pure water permeability (PWP) was evaluated by measuring pure water flux. Humic acid was used as model foulant solute to analyze flux and rejection ability of membranes. Flux and rejection data of neat and modified membranes were compared to prove the improvement in the filtration performance. The experimental results showed that for PVC and CM-PVC, PWP was calculated to be ~64 and ${\sim}143L/m^2{\cdot}h$, respectively, and the rejection of humic acid was found to be 98% and 100%, respectively. TGA was carried out to analyze the effect of chemical modification on the thermal stability of polymer. FT-IR analysis was another characterization technique used for the comparative study.

Effects of D-Fructose on the Uptake of Iron by the Intestinal Brush-Border Membrane Vesicles from Rats.

  • We have studied the iron uptake by the purified brush-border membrane vesicles (BBMVs) to determine the effect of fructose on the absorption of iron. BBMVs were prepared by the modified calcium precipitation method, The degree of purification was routinely assessed by the marker enzyme, alkaline phosphatase, and the functional integrity was tested by $D-[1-^3H]glucose$ uptake. The appearance of membrane vesicles was shown by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The uptakes of complexes of labeled iron $[^{59}Fe]$ with fructose and ascorbate were measured with a rapid filtration technique, The uptake rate and pattern of the two iron-complexes, Fe(III)-fructose and Fe(III)-ascorbate, were also observed. A typical overshooting uptake of D-glucose was observed with peak value of $2{\sim}3$ times higher concentration than that at equilibrium. This result was similar to other studies with BBMVs. TEM showed that the size of BBMVs was uniform and we can hardly find any contaminants, Fe(III)-fructose has the higher value of $V_{max}$ and the lower value of Km than those of Fe(III)-ascorbate, respectively. It may be concluded that D-fructose is more effective in promoting the iron absorption than ascorbate.

여과포에 의한 분진포집기술 (Fabric Filtration for Particulate Matter Collection)

  • 여과포에 의한 분진 포집기술은 다른 분진포집기술에 비해 가장 우수한 집진성능을 나타낼수 있는 집진기술로서 최근에 와서는 분진발생공정, 연소설비 및 폐기물 소각설비의 중금속 물질, 유해 기체 및 분진의 동시포집 적용 등 광범위한 산업분야에 적응되어 운전되고 있다. 배출기체의 악조건과 습도가 다량 함유된 조건에서는 여과포 집진장치의 적용이 어렵다고 생각되고 있지만, 처리 기체의 조건 및 포집분진의 특성에 적합한 여과포의 개발과 탈진방식(cleaning method)의 개선으로 인해 해결이 가능하게 되었다. 또한 여과포에 의한 분진포집기술은 장치를 통과하는 배출기체의 속도가 다른 집진기술에 비해 느려 여과포 면적이 상대적으로 넓어져서 장치의 설치면적이 많이 소요된다는 단점이 있으나, 여과포를 원간으로 봉재하여 서로 접근시켜 많은 갯수를 다단으로 배치함과 동시에 연속탈진시스템(on-line cleaning)을 채택함으로써 장치에 소요되는 면적을 최소한으로 줄이려는 연구가 계속되고 있다. 대체적으로 여과포에 의한 분진포집기술의 산업체 적용에서 장치의 압력손실은 약 100 - 100 $mmH_2O$ 정도의 범위가 대부분이고 분진 포집효율은 거의 99.9%에서 99.99% 정도 달성이 가능하다[1,2,3].

  • 溶解된 粒子의 이온量 또는 分子量을 決定하는 方法으로서의 透膜法에는 裝置의 未備點과 實驗方法의 改良되어야 할 點이 아직 남아 있으므로 우선 이들을 改善하여 補完하였다. 透析簡에 膜을 密着시킬수 있도록 鐵製링을 開發하였다. 透析液과 外部液의 水準을 0.02mm의 精度로 一致調節하고 維持시킴으로써 渗透 및 濾過效果를 最小限度로 抑制시켰다. 두 液의 攪拌速度를 任意의 定速度로 變更하여 그 攪拌量을 一定하게 維持할 수 있도록 하였으며, 그 溫度를 透析其間中 ${\pm}0.01^{\circ}C$의 精度로 一致維持시킬수 있도록 하였다. 透析期間中 透析液의 부피變化를 -1.62 ~ +0.92%範圍로 좁혔으며, 渗透 및 濾過效果와 膜孔의 크기와의 關係를 追究하여 最適透析時間을 究明하였다.
