Objectives: A 46-year-old woman who had worked on cleaning stainless steel containers with Initially unknown powders died from acute silicosis. To determine whether the acute silicosis was related to his work environment, we conducted exposure assessment the level of exposure to respirable crystalline silica(RCS) during cleaning stainless steel containers with unknown powders. Methods: The exposure assessment of RCS were undertaken according to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health(NIOSH) method 7500. The components of the unknown powder were analyzed using X-ray Diffraction. Results: The unknown powder was found to be natural diatomaceous earth, which contained 12% and 9% quartz and cristobalite, respectively, crystalline silica. In the case of cleaning stainless steel containers with diatomaceous earth powder, the primary measurement resulted in 1.3 times higher occupational exposure limit of MOEL(in sum of quartz and cristobalite concentration) and 3.9 times higher in secondary measurement. The workbench was equipped with a local exhaust system, but because there was no hood at the end of the duct, the wind speed at the opening of the duct was 12 m/sec, whereas the controlled wind speed at the working position was only 0.3 m/sec below the legal standard. Conclusions: There is an urgent need to install the hood, conduct safety and health education for employers and workers, and periodically monitoring and manage the working environment.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to describe the type of claimed adverse events related to Korean Medicine practices in South Korea. Methods : Claims with regard to the Korean Medicine practice submitted to the Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency from April 2012 to December 2016 were collected. We analyzed claims that explicitly reported the type of Korean medicine intervention and were deemed as being adverse events as defined by the Korea Good Clinical Practice. Claims that did not mention the Korean medicine practice explicitly or those related to the patient's dissatisfaction to the service rather than adverse health outcomes were excluded. Types, related interventions and the suspected severity of claimed adverse events were summarized. Results : Of 197 claims obtained, 140 claim cases were eligible and 144 claimed events were deemed as possible adverse events of the Korean medicine practice. Pain(16%), local infection/inflammation(12%) and neurological symptoms(11%) were the most frequently reported types of claimed adverse events. Thirty-nine claimed serious adverse events(SAE) were identified, including pneumothorax(28.2%) and death(17.9%). Conclusions : A wide range of claimed adverse events were identified. Routine monitoring of claims data may provide undetected safety information with regard to the Korean medicine practice. High risk of misclassification of the intervention and claimed adverse events due to insufficient information is the main caveat of this study.
Recently, the prevalence of bladder cancer is increasing in the Korean society. As the risk factors of bladder carcinoma are variable, the early-stage diagnosis is regarded the best preventive practice. Hematuria is a specific sign of the malignancy as well as a kind of various medication-related adverse reactions. Some anti-coagulation therapy can cause bleedings including hematuria to the patients with cardiovascular diseases such as paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). Therefore, to the clinical pharmacists working in the anti-coagulation services (ACS), a closer monitoring of patients can give an opportunity to find certain ailments unexpectedly. In this case, a patient with PAF had episodes of sporadic hematuria in the course of warfarin therapy even though with its low levels of INR. An ACS pharmacist found a discrepancy between the bleeding symptoms and INR values, and recommended properly the patient to refer urologist. Fortunately, an early-stage of bladder carcinoma was found then followed by an excision performed to the lesion. Therefore, alert-minded and precise monitoring done by ACS pharmacist could optimize the therapeutic outcomes as well as increase the quality of life of the patient.
Typically, the vital signs that are representing the state of human body, are the body temperature, sphygmus, respiration and blood pressure. The body temperature is the result of metabolic regulation and human steady-state body temperature is maintained from 35.9 to $37.4^{\circ}C$ by heat regulatory center. The body temperature is indicative of infection and especially it should be monitored to requiring intensive care patients or after surgical patients. But, measuring of body temperature to a heavy workload on nursing staff has been recognized. And, the health service of nurse is limited by simple tasks such as the measurement and record of vital sign. In this paper, the body temperature monitoring telemetry system was proposed to prove the recoding and transmission of body temperature patch system according the standard(ISO TS11073-92001). We proposed the transmission protocol to suit the MFER(medical waveform format encoding rules). The telemetry patch system was implemented and it was verified by experiments.

Health Related issues has become a savior diseases as growing rapidly they also causing savior issues if they not cure they lead to even death. Fatal Diseases needed to be controlled at early stages to save the patient lives. The Knowledge related to the disease is also important so that it may be cure as soon as possible and also medicine for the illness is also needed to be supplied immediately so that it can be controlled. Some patients also need a continuous monitoring like aged and someone suffering to some fatal disease .IOT based monitoring system with the application of the Raspberry pi and the usage of the Local Area Network to connect the Doctors, Hospital, and Ambulance service also the pharmacy help to start the treatment of the patient effectively. Also acknowledging the doctors and hospital staff will help to save the life of the patient due to knowledge of the disease. Usage such smart and reliable technology will help to monitor the health condition of the patient at home and also connecting with the doctors through the internet will also acknowledge the doctor about the present condition of the patient. This paper presents the effective use of the smart devices and technology to overcome the disease by using such cost effective technology.
The objective of this study was to investigate the use of extract from mesenteric lymph nodes as an alternative to serum for ELISA to detect Salmonella antibodies in slaughter pigs. Among 324 slaughter pigs, 65 (20.1 %) were positive in the serum ELISA and 76 (23.5%) were positive in the ELISA with extract from lymph nodes. A total of 24 (7.4%) Salmonella representing 6 serotypes were isolated from mesenteric lymph nodes and 35 (10.8%) Salmonella belonging to 2 serotypes were also recovered from cecal contents of slaughter pig samples, respectively. The most prevalent serogroup was B (55.9% of isolates) and serotype was Typhimurium (52.5% of isolates). In the comparison of the results of between the serum ELISA and Salmonella isolation, kappa value was 0.28 with mesenteric lymph nodes and 0.37 with cecal contents, respectively. However, the extract ELISA had sensitivity of 98.5%, specificity of 95.4% and kappa value of 0.88 as compared with the serum ELISA. Because high degree of concordance between the serum ELISA and the extract ELISA was observed (P=0.24), extract from lymph nodes could be used as an alternative to serum for the detection of Salmonella antibodies in the ELISA.
The World Anti-Doping Agency has made efforts to promote the safe use of medications and prevent doping in sports globally. International standards have been established and experts have advocate anti-doping education to athletes and healthcare professionals. Pharmacists are expected to participate in the pharmaceutical care activity of sports medicine in protecting the athletes while providing the spirits of clean sports. In this review, we described the pharmacists' roles and functions in six areas of sports pharmaceutical care: awareness, treatment, prevention, optimization, abuse, and monitoring. Sports pharmacists should be able to prevent inappropriate drug use and manage athletes' illness and injury using pharmacotherapy. Further pharmacists should actively involve to educate and counsel athletes, trainers, and healthcare teams. In conclusion, pharmacists are expected to play important roles in sports pharmacy, which is the emerging area of specialized pharmaceutical care services.
The objective of this study was to analyze data from the planned national serological monitoring program for Aujeszky's disease (AD) using a simulation model to evaluate probable outcomes expected in the sample derived from the simulated herds at predefined within-herd prevalence and herd prevalence. Additionally, prevalence at animal- and herd-level estimated by the stochastic simulation model based on the distributions of the proportion of infected herds and test-positive animals was compared with those of data from a national serological survey in 2006, in which 106,762 fattening pigs from 5,325 herds were tested for AD using a commercial ELISA kit. A fixed value of 95% was used for test sensitivity, and the specificity was modeled with a minimum, most likely and maximum of 95, 97 and 99%, respectively. The within-herd prevalence and herd prevalence was modeled using Pert and Triang distributions, respectively with a minimum, most likely and maximum point values. In all calculations, population size of 1,000 was used due to lack of representative information. The mean number of infected herds and true test-positives was estimated to be 27 herds (median = 25; 95% percentile 44) and 214 pigs (median = 196; 95% percentile 423), respectively. When testing 20 pigs (mean of 2006 survey) in each herd, there was a 3.3% probability that the potential for false-positive reactions due to less than 100% specificity of the ELISA test would be detected. It was found that the model showed prevalence of 0.21% (99% percentile 0.50%) and 0.5% (99% percentile 0.99%) at animal- and herd-level, respectively. These rates were much similar to data from the 2006 survey (0.62% versus 0.83%). The overall mean herd-level sensitivity of the 2006 survey for fattening pigs was 99.9%, with only a 0.2% probability of failing to detect at least one infected herd.

Background: Good postoperative pain control is an important part of adequate postoperative care. Patient-controlled epidural analgesia (PCEA) provided better postoperative analgesia compared to other conventional analgesic methods, but several risks have been observed as well. We therefore surveyed the efficacy and safety of PCEA in this retrospective observational study. Methods: We analyzed collected data on 2,276 elective surgical patients who received PCEA with ropivacaine and fentanyl. Patients were assessed by a PCA service team in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), at 1-6 h, 6-24 h, and 24-48 h postoperatively for adequate pain control. The presence of PCEA-related adverse events was also assessed. Results: Numerical pain score (median [interquartile range]) were 3 [1-4], 5 [4-7], 4 [3-5], and 3 [3-5] in the PACU, at 1-6 h, 6-24 h, and 24-48 h postoperatively. Median pain scores in patients underwent major abdominal or thoracic surgery were higher than other surgical procedure in the PACU, at 1-6 h after surgery. Nausea and vomiting (20%) and numbness and motor weakness (15%) were revealed as major PCEA-related adverse events during the postoperative 48 h period. There were 329 patients (14%) for whom PCEA was ceased within 48 h following surgery. Conclusions: Our data suggest that the use of PCEA provides proper analgesia in the postoperative 48 h period after a wide variety of surgical procedures and that is associated with few serious complications. However, more careful pain management and sustainable PCEA monitoring considering the type of surgical procedure undergone is needed in patients with PCEA.
From 2006 through 2007, the highest need for the most urgent attention in Gangwon-do Wild Animal Rescue Center was wildlifevehicle collisions (WVC). The Korean Ministry of Environment reported 6543 WVC's in 2005 and 5565 cases of WVC's in 2006. In this study, data from the Gangwon-do Wild Animal Rescue Center was utilized to analyze WVC incidents and the movement of wildlife near roadways in Korea. From 2006 through the first half of 2008, the portable GPS device recorded accident location of the injured wildlife. Attempts were made to track and monitor the movements of four raccoon dogs and five Korean water deers near the roads. One raccoon dog and one Korean water deer were successfully tracked and monitored. Their locations were transmitted to cell phones. The amount of WVC's was highest amongst the roads near the forests of Gangwon-do. The devices installed on the nearby roads did not protect the wildlife from WVC's. Results using the CDMA-type GPS collar showed that wildlife often crossed the road even with devices installed to prevent this from crossing roads. This research analyzed the behaviors of different wildlife animals and WVC's. New preventative measures need to be established to avoid roadkill. It is suggested that new streets be built or for an appropriate speed limit be implemented.
