It is practiced by many Korean medical institutions to give weights to medical papers published n foreign journals covered by major international abstracts and indexes (A&I) in the evaluation of research performance. In an attempt to recommend the databases to be used for the evaluation of KOrean medical research papers, this study measured the extent of overlap records of Korean medical papaers retrieved from the three major medical databases, EMBASE, MEDLINE and SCISEARCH. Korean papers published in foreign journals between 1990 to 1995 were analyzed. It also analyzed the characteristics of journals where these Korean medical papers are published with respect to their subjects, publishing countries and languages. It is found that these is no difference among three databsases as far as the characteristics of journals where Korean medical papers are published are concerned with respect to their subjects, publishing countries and languages. Thus the number of papers retrieved from each database should be the major criterion to recommend the A&I databases to be used in the evalua ion of research performance. If one database must be chosen for the evaluation of Korean medical papers, it is probably the best to utilize SCISEARCH which is the most efficient database for verifying Korean medical papers in foreign journals. If two databases can be used, then EMBASE should be the next choice.

Purpose: It was to induce higher-level papers which can make Korea's Emergency Medical Service System better. Methods: This study was conducted by analysing of 250 papers published in the Journal of Korean Society of Emergency Medical Technology from 1997 to 2005. Results: Most of papers which dealt with non-clinic(94.4%), non-job description(76.8%), non-scope of practice(94.4%), other than AHA's recommendations such as response intervals and survival rates from cardiac arrest(90.4%) were written by professors(61.6%) and 1-2 authors(72.8%). Conclusion: It brought up some needs of enlargement of new members.

The study was carried out to investigate the researches of Snake which was published papers in the TOXlCON(1990-2000), one of the most famous Journal of toxicology. And the results were as follows : 1. The number related with Snake is 195papers. 2. There were great papers related wih Cobra, and next is Tigris, Viper, etc. 3. There were great papers related wih protein in the composition of snake venom. 4. There were great papers related wih neurotoxin in the research of poisonous character. 5. There were great papers related wih Viper according to the anticoagulation. 6 Eight papers were published to study the immune response of snake venom. 7. The papers of molecular study of snake venom were seven. 8. The papers of anti-snake venom study were three.

Purpose : This study is to investigate the trends of study of cold hypersensitivity in Korean traditional medicine and to direct for future research. Methods : We searched for papers which had used cold hypersensitivity in korean journals. Results : 25 papers were found. 10 papers were associated with characteristics of cold hypersensitivity. 8 papers were associated with case study. 5 papers were associated with diagnosis. 2 papers were associated with research for treatment effect. Conclusion : Studies have been conducted on cold hypersensitivity in various fields. But evidence is not enough, so more research will be needed.

It is fair to say that there are many ethical issues concerning the publication of medical papers. To define the best practice in the ethics of scientific publishing and a proper understanding of appropriate reporting in medical papers, this review should be useful for authors dealing with ethical issues which involve the protection of human and animal rights, the protection of confidentiality and informed consent, fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, author and authorship, copy right transfer, duplicate publication, conflict of interest, and dealing with misconduct cases.

The DIALOG's SCISearch database was searched, and the number of SCI Korean medical papers in each medical specialty was measured by document type and by publication year for the 1990-1995 period. The growth of SCI Korean medical papers was examined during this period. The percentage contribution of Korean medical papers to SCI database. and the SCI(mainstream) publication productivity ratio were analyzed for each medical specialty. The data obtained in this study for the early 1990s was compared with the data representing the 1980s. In addition, the fame research methodology was applied to the SCI Korean chemistry papers, and the result was compared with medicine. The purpose of these analysis is to investigate the extent and growth of mainstream publication activity of Korean medicine.

This study was designed to analyze all the papers that were in the Journal of the Korean Nursing Administration Academic Society from the first publication edition (1995) to 2000. Analyses methods are research designs, data collection methods, research subjects and key words. all papers were 145. The results of the study are as follows : First, research designs, nonexperimentals are 106 papers, experimentals are 9, qualitatives are 9 papers. Research subjects that all subjects in each paper were accepted are as follows, hospital staffs including nurses, doctors, and other employees are 115 paper(59.28%), adults including patient's family, medical, nursing students are 44 papers(22.68%), informatic systems including medical record sheets, database, and management system are 8 papers(4.12%), others including country, literature, researches are 21 papers(10.82%). Second, data collection methods that all methods in each paper were accepted that questionnaires are 93 papers(57.76%), interviews are 13 papers(8.07%), observations are 10 papers(6.21%), scale & psycholgical are 8 papers(4.97%), and self-reportings are 6 papers(3.73%), etc. Conclusion : Even though research topics are various, the fields of informatics and financial management are poor. Therefore studying for those fields and its practical implication are needed.

Purpose : This study is to the recent trends of clinical trial using infrared thermography and to review its application in medicine. Methods : We searched for papers which had used infrared thermography in Medicine within 5 years, using English. Results : A total of 23 papers were but 8 were found, but 8 were not related to non-invasive infrared thermography. The other 15 papers were clinical trials about the effect of acupuncture and therapeutic massage, evaluation of post-hepatic neuralgia, sleep disorder, and regional circulation. Conclusion : These results suggest that infrared thermography can be used as a reliable and helpful method in many clinical trials.

Objectives: Automated audiometry provides an opportunity to do audiometry when there is no direct access to a clinical audiologist. This approach will help to use hearing services and resources efficiently. The purpose of this study was to review studies related to automated audiometry by focusing on the implementation of an audiometer, the use of transducers and evaluation methods. Methods: This review study was conducted in 2017. The papers related to the design and implementation of automated audiometry were searched in the following databases: Science Direct, Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus. The time frame for the papers was between January 1, 2010 and August 31, 2017. Initially, 143 papers were found, and after screening, the number of papers was reduced to 16. Results: The findings showed that the implementation methods were categorized into the use of software (7 papers), hardware (3 papers) and smartphones/tablets (6 papers). The used transducers were a variety of earphones and bone vibrators. Different evaluation methods were used to evaluate the accuracy and the reliability of the diagnoses. However, in most studies, no significant difference was found between automated and traditional audiometry. Conclusions: It seems that automated audiometry produces the same results compared with traditional audiometry. However, the main advantages of this method; namely, saving costs and increased accessibility to hearing services, can lead to a faster diagnosis of hearing impairment, especially in poor areas.

Objectives : This study is designed for trend analysis of oriental medicine treatment for visual impairment. Methods : Research studies related to objectives were gathered through OASIS, KTKP, PUBMED with keywords such as "visual impairment", "myopia", "hyperopia", "presbyopia", "astigmatism" and analyzed. Results : As a result of searching domestic and overseas research on oriental medical treatment for visual impairment, 7 domestic research papers and 11 overseas research papers have been selected. Among those research papers, 15 of those are studies related to childhood or juvenile myopia. Acupuncture, ear acupuncture, herb medicine, periocular massage, eye muscle exercise and habit correction are used as treatment methods for visual impairment. 14 out of 17 research papers which mentioned treatment effect of oriental medicine reported oriental treatment of visual impairment is effective. Conclusions : Various types of oriental medical treatment could be effective in treating visual impairment. Thus, related in-depth research must be proceeded.
