  • Objective: To evaluate the effects of tube voltage on image quality in coronary CT angiography (CCTA), the estimated radiation dose, and DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) in peripheral blood lymphocytes to optimize the use of CCTA in the era of low radiation doses. Materials and Methods: This study included 240 patients who were divided into 2 groups according to the DNA DSB analysis methods, i.e., immunofluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry. Each group was subdivided into 4 subgroups: those receiving CCTA only with different tube voltages of 120, 100, 80, or 70 kVp. Objective and subjective image quality was evaluated by analysis of variance. Radiation dosages were also recorded and compared. Results: There was no significant difference in demographic characteristics between the 2 groups and 4 subgroups in each group (all p > 0.05). As tube voltage decreased, both image quality and radiation dose decreased gradually and significantly. After CCTA, γ-H2AX foci and mean fluorescence intensity in the 120-, 100-, 80-, and 70-kVp groups increased by 0.14, 0.09, 0.07, and 0.06 foci per cell and 21.26, 9.13, 8.10, and 7.13 (all p < 0.05), respectively. The increase in the DNA DSB level in the 120-kVp group was higher than those in the other 3 groups (all p < 0.05), while there was no significant difference in the DSBs levels among these latter groups (all p > 0.05). Conclusion: The 100-kVp tube voltage may be optimal for CCTA when weighing DNA DSBs against the estimated radiation dose and image quality, with further reductions in tube voltage being unnecessary for CCTA.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the effect on 5 chronic insomnia patients according to the oriental medical treatment and sleep restriction therapy. These patients were treated with Sa-Am acupunture therapy(瞻正格), Ondam-tang, sleep restriction therapy and evaluated about comfort and improvement after therapy. The result of this research showed that all patients were satisfied with improvement of insomnia subjectively. I considered that chronic insomnia can be improved by oriental medical treatment with sleep restriction therapy and continuous research must be accumulated subsequently.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical application of oriental medical therapy for Insomnia due to Qi and Blood deficiency and insufficiency of Heart. In this case, we treated the patient with insomnia by oriental medical therapy, specially Insamyaogyung-tang(人蔘養榮湯) and Gong-jin-dan(拱辰丹), And we checked patient's sleeping time. In result, at the first time, the patient slept only one hour. After oriental medical therapy, the patient slept over 6 hours, Conclusionally oriental medical therapy, specially Insamyaogyung-tang(人蔘養榮湯) and Gong-jin-dan(拱辰丹) is very helpful for the patient of insomnia due to Qi and Blood deficiency, and insufficiency of Heart.

  • Circadian rhythms, which measure time about 24 hours, are generated by one of the most ubiquitous and well investigated timing system. More recently, circadian clock gene expression has been reported in various peripheral tissues. If a circadian clock is functioning in the testis, expression of clock genes should be observed in this tissue. To resolve this issue, we examined the expression of circadian clock genes in the testis. (omitted)

  • The utility of transgenic animal for studying the function of a particular gene in the breast system has been limited because transgenic typically occurs constitutively throughout development and in most tissue. So we use the inducible gene expression system. Several inducible gene expression system have been developed in vitro in recent years to overcome limitation with transgenic mice. (omitted)

  • Positional cloning of hereditary deafness genes is a direct approach to identify molecules and mechanisms underlying auditory function. Nowadays many deafness genes are newly identified by finding the locus for the causative genes. Mutations at many different loci in humans and mice are known to cause hearing impairment. Mouse mutants exhibiting deafness may be useful in identifying some of genes involved. (omitted)

  • Angiogenesis is a fundamental process in reproduction and wound healing. Under these condition, neovascularization is tightly regulated. Unregulated angiogenesis may lead to several angiogenic diseases, and is thought to be indispensible for solid tumor growth and metastsis. The construction of new vascular network is a multistep cascade involving basement membrane degradation, endothelial cell proliferation, endothelial cell migration, and tube formation. Newly reported anti-angiogenic agents in oriental medical field have targeted both specific and multistep stages in the angiogenic process. From recent approach in oriental medical field with several herb medicines including activating blood flow and removing blood stasis medicine(活血化瘀藥), it may be possible in the future to develope specific anti-angiogenic agents that offer a less toxic potential therapy for cancer and angiogenic disease.
