StrokeBase: A Database of Cerebrovascular Disease-related Candidate Genes

  • Complex diseases such as stroke and cancer have two or more genetic loci and are affected by environmental factors that contribute to the diseases. Due to the complex characteristics of these diseases, identifying candidate genes requires a system-level analysis of the following: gene ontology, pathway, and interactions. A database and user interface, termed StrokeBase, was developed; StrokeBase provides queries that search for pathways, candidate genes, candidate SNPs, and gene networks. The database was developed by using in silico data mining of HGNC, ENSEMBL, STRING, RefSeq, UCSC, GO, HPRD, KEGG, GAD, and OMIM. Forty candidate genes that are associated with cerebrovascular disease were selected by human experts and public databases. The networked cerebrovascular disease gene maps also were developed; these maps describe genegene interactions and biological pathways. We identified 1127 genes, related indirectly to cerebrovascular disease but directly to the etiology of cerebrovascular disease. We found that a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network that was associated with cerebrovascular disease follows the power-law degree distribution that is evident in other biological networks. Not only was in silico data mining utilized, but also 250K Affymetrix SNP chips were utilized in the 320 control/disease association study to generate associated markers that were pertinent to the cerebrovascular disease as a genome-wide search. The associated genes and the genes that were retrieved from the in silico data mining system were compared and analyzed. We developed a well-curated cerebrovascular disease-associated gene network and provided bioinformatic resources to cerebrovascular disease researchers. This cerebrovascular disease network can be used as a frame of systematic genomic research, applicable to other complex diseases. Therefore, the ongoing database efficiently supports medical and genetic research in order to overcome cerebrovascular disease.

  • ${\ulcorner}Gogeumdoseojipseong{\lrcorner}$, it has been compiled by Chenmenglei(1651-1723). This large encyclopedia was published in 1125 during Ohing dynasty of China in the reign of the Kangxi emperor. The medical parts of this encyclopedia was titled the name of Yibuquanlu, but it is not correct. KIOM(Korea Institute of oriental Medicine) researched the compilation and publication of the original book of this and the process of introduction to Chosun with its woodblock-printed book for making database of this book. Even more, we analyzed the structure of this book and apprehended the historical significance about medical interchange between Korea and China by this book. As the result, we found that the most part of this large encyclopedia quotedfrom ${\ulcorner}Donguibogam{\lrcorner}$ of Chosun, then it was back to Chosun and taken a part to medical books such as ${\ulcorner}Imwonkyungjaejis{\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}Uijongsonikr{\lrcorner}$.

  • An expert system for a ship medical manager is presented in this paper where it si planned to improve the medical environment of the crew. The proposed system includes a information retrieval system that is based on the knowledge database organizing important experiences of first-aiders and is intended to be used effectively by the inexpert member. Moreover, this system of which the purpose is to computerize the medical work of each ship medical manager that the third officer give an affirmative guide for the execution of their duty from the medical treatment database of the disease occurring frequently on many crews.

학교보건 증진을 위한 데이터베이스의 개발 및 관리 (Development and Management of Database for School Health Improvement)

  • The purpose of this study was to design and implementation of database for school health activity. This database system was designed stand-alone application for college school health center without a hospital affiliation and the database system was made of relational database management system, Microsoft access 2000 to be made GUI (Graphic user interface) type design and made up 7 tables: patients. symptoms. departments, income and outgo. medical cures. and medicine. The construction of this database system was patient management. code management. medicine management. and statistics management. The results of the database system were as follows; 1) This database system could be used for college school health center. 2) This database system could be made correct statistic data. 3) This database system could be managed income and outgo. 4) This database system could be changed for the better activity of community health service. 5) This database system could be simply attired administrative system. This database system will be used for students and employees to protect and promote health to measure for health level and quality of health service. In conclusion. this database system can be applied for unit health center to manage the college school health activity and advanced data management can be applied for health profession to do quality improvement. cost containment. management information system. and decision support system.

산머루 관련 정보수집 및 데이터베이스의 구축 (Data Mining and Construction of Database Concerning Effects of Vitis Genus)

  • The database for the oriental medicine had been existed in documentation in past times and it has been developed to the database type for random accesses in the information society. However, the aspects of the database are not so diversified and the database for the bio herbal material exists in widened type dictionary style. It is a situation that the database which handles the in-depth raw herbal medicines is not sufficient in its quantity and quality. Korean wild grape is a deciduous plant categorized into the Vitaceae and it was found experimentally that it has various medical effects. It is one of the medical materials with higher potentiality of academic study and commercialization recently because it has a bigger possibility to be applied into diverse industrial fields including the medical product for health, food and beauty. We constituted the cooperative system among the Muju cluster business group for Korean mountain wild grapes, Physiology Laboratory in Kyung Hee University Oriental Medicine and Medical Classics Laboratory in Kyung Hee University Oriental Medicine with a view to focusing on such potentiality and a database for Korean wild grapes was made a touchstone for establishing the in-depth database for the single bio medical materials. First of all, the literatures based on the North East Asia in ancient times had been categorized into the classical literature (Korean literature published by government organization, Korean classical literature, Chinese classical literature and classical literature fro Korean and Chinese oriental medicine) and modern literature (Modern literature for oriental medicine, modern literature for domestic and foreign herbal medicine) to cover the eastern and western research records and writings related to Korean wild grapes and the text-mining work has been performed through the cooperation system with the Medical Classics Laboratory in Kyung Hee University Oriental Medicine. First of all, the data for the experiment and theory for Korean wild grape were collected for the Medline database controlled by the Parliament Library of USA to arrange the domestic and foreign theses with topic for Korean wild grapes and the network hyperlink function and down load function were mounted for self-thesis searching function and active view based on the collected data. The thesis searching function provides various auxiliary functions and the searching is available according to the diverse searching/queries such as the name of sub species of Korean wild grape, the logical intersection index for the active ingredients, efficacy and elements. It was constituted for the researchers who design the Korean wild grape study to design of easier experiment. In addition, the data related to the patents for Korean wild grape which were collected from European Patent Office in response to the commercialization possibility and the system available for searching and view was established in the same viewpoint. Perl was used for the query programming and MS-SQL for database establishment and management in the designing of this database. 전통의학 문헌의 디지털 복원 및 검증에 관한 연구 (A study on a restoration and verification of traditional medical documents)

  • 본 연구는 전통의학 분야의 지식자원을 보호 활용하기 위하여 고의학 서적의 필사본을 확보하여 손망실을 방지함과 동시에 서지학적, 어학적, 한의학적 접근을 통하여 고의학 서적의 관리 체계 수립 및 지원시스템을 구축하는데 목표를 두고 있으며 선택된 필사본을 위주로 국역화, DB화 및 전자문서화를 구축하여 향 후 다양한 활용 가치를 제고하고 필사본의 처방 지식의 온톨로지 구축 방법을 제시하여 전통의학문헌의 복원 및 형상화를 설계함과 아울러 다학제간의 연구 시스템을 통한 고의학 서적의 내용을 정리 분석하여 의학적 유용성을 평가하고 현대적인 재해석을 통해 기초 및 임상에서의 실용화 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

앱기반 진화 의료 노모그램 서비스 시스템 (An App-based Evolving Medical Nomogram Service System)

  • 의료 노모그램은 환자에 대한 임상정보를 축적하고 분석하여 만든 수식적인 임상 의료예측 지식을 그래픽으로 표현한 것을 말한다. 의료 노모그램이 환자 진료에 기여하기 위해서는 가능하면 많은 임상 사례들이 추적되어 이들로부터 의료예측 지식을 추출하는 것이 필요하다. 또한 가용한 사례 데이터들로부터 정확도가 높은 예측 모델을 생성하여 노모그램으로 제공해야 한다. 이러한 노모그램은 환자진료 시점에서 쉽게 활용할 수 있도록 제공하는 것이 바람직하다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 요구조건들을 고려하여 제안한 노모그램 서비스 시스템을 소개한다. 제안한 시스템에서는 가능하면 많은 사례를 활용할 수 있도록 하기 위해 웹기반의 사례정보 데이터베이스 시스템을 포함하고, 임상 사례 데이터들을 활용하여 주기적으로 노모그램을 자동으로 갱신하도록 한다. 그 결과를 임상현장에서 바로 사용할 수 있도록 하기 위하여 앱 프로그램 통하여 스마트 단말기를 활용하도록 한다. 이 앱은 노모그램 서버에 직접 접근하여 가장 최근의 노모그램에 근거한 예측 결과를 제공한다. 끝으로 제안된 서비스 시스템 구조를 적용하여 개발된 방광암 환자의 재발율 및 생존율에 대한 노모그램 서비스 시스템을 소개한다.

비정형 한의약텍스트 조제복용사항 정형화알고리즘연구 - 동의보감 처방정보를 중심으로 (A Study of the Algorithm that Standardizes Processing of Information and Taking Indications of East Asian Medicine Formula)

  • Currently, there are about 20,000 or so known ancient medical texts from the East Asian medical traditions. Although the most famous texts are widely known, many texts still exist only as original manuscripts. We are interested exploring these texts to uncover the potential benefits of their therapeutic knowledge. This study aims to develop a database program that automatically converts the treatment skills described in the text version into a more structured version. In the previous study, our team analyzed patterns in the way that treatment skills are described and then tried to design a database program algorithm that identified every meaningful keyword used to describe treatment skills and put that word in the right cell of a structured table. This study continues the development of this program. East Asian medical herbal treatment information is broken down into 4 elements: the first one is the name or title of treatment skills, and the second is the symptoms to which the treatment is applied, the third is ingredients used, the fourth is how information is processed and the indications taken. This study presents the algorithm's principles on how to analyze and structure the fourth element, the processing of information and taking of indications, which is described in a form of ancient natural language.

  • Although data mining promises a new paradigm to discover medical knowledge form a database, there are many problems to be solved before real application is feasible. We had the chance to provide a data set to be analyzed as a discovery challenge by using various data mining techniques at the PKDD conference. As data providers, we evaluated and discussed results and clarified problems.

청강 진료기록을 통해 살펴본 가미보정산의 기원 및 명칭 변화 (The origins and transformations to the name of Augmented Widen the Core Powder (加味普正散) as seen in the Dr. Kim Young Hoon's Medical Records)

  • This paper analyzes information on Augmented Widen the Core Powder (加味普正散) (AWCP) in the Dr. Kim Young Hoon's medical record database, Cheongang Medical Records. AWCP is a prescription that is not found in the existing medical texts, yet is referred to in Dr. Kim Young Hoon's medical record database. By examining these records, this study shows that the original prescription for AWCP was Decoction for Rectifying the Qi with Cyperus and Kudzu (香葛正氣飮) and that this prescription was deeply related to Rectify the Qi Powder Worth More Than Gold (不換金正氣散) as well as Cyperus and Kudzu Decoction (香葛飮). In addition, AWCP had several names over a long period of time, and its name changed from the Powder of Relieving Lives and Rectifying the Qi (普救正氣散) to AWCP. In particular, this study shows that the term 'gami' (加味 augmented) indicates a change in prescription name, not a change in the composition of the prescription.
