With the recent development of IT technology, medical image processing technology is also widely used in the dental field, and the treatment effect is enhanced by using 3D data such as CT. In this paper, open source libraries such as ITK and VTK are introduced to develop dental medical image processing software, and how to use them to develop dental medical image processing software centering on 3D CBCT. In ITK, basic algorithms for medical image processing are implemented, so the image processing pipeline can be quickly implemented, and the desired algorithm can be easily implemented as a filter by the developer. The developed algorithm is linked with VTK to implement the visualization function. The developed SW can be used for dental diagnosis and treatment that overcomes the limitations of 2D images..

Pleuroperitoneal communication (PPC) is a rare mechanical complication of peritoneal dialysis (PD), which causes dialysate to move from the peritoneal cavity to the pleural cavity, resulting in pleural effusion. Typically, PPC is discovered through pleural effusion in PD patients who are not in volume overload status. A unique characteristic of the pleural effusion caused by PPC is that it is not resolved by increasing ultrafiltration by dialysis. In this report, we present a 7-year-old girl with PD after birth with the history of various infectious PD-related complications, presenting with fever ongoing for 6 months. PPC-associated pleuritis was suspected as the cause of fever, which eventually developed after long-term PD and induced complicated pleural effusion, lung inflammation, and prolonged fever for 6 months.

HL7(Health Level 7) is a standard for exchanging medical and healthcare data among different medical information systems. As the ubiquitous era is coming, in addition to text and imaging information, a new type of data, i.e., streaming sensor data appear. Since the HL7 is not covering the interfaces among the devices that produces sensor data, it is expected that sooner or later the HL7 needs to include the biomedical sensors and sensor networks. The IEEE 1451 is a family of standards that deals with the sensors, transducers including sensors and actuators, and various wired or wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we consider the possibility of interoperability between the IEEE 1451 and HL7. After we propose a format of messages in HL7 to include the IEEE 1451 TEDS, we present some preliminary results that show the possibility of integrating the two standards.
A highly efficient class E power amplifier is demonstrated for application to wireless power transfer system. The amplifier is designed with an L-type matching at the output for harmonic rejection and output matching. The power loss and the effect of each component in the amplifier with the matching circuit are analyzed with the current ratio transmitted to the output load. Inductors with a quality factor of more than 120 are used in a dc feed and the matching circuit to improve transmission efficiency. The single-ended amplifier with 20 V supply voltage shows 7.7 W output power and 90.8% power added efficiency at 6.78 MHz. The wireless power transfer (WPT) system with the amplifier shows 5.4 W transmitted power and 82.3% overall efficiency. The analysis and measurements show that high-Q inductors are required for the amplifier design to realize highly efficient WPT system.
Background and Objectives: Considering important role of vitamin D in many physiological processes including vestibular system in the ear, aim of present study is to evaluate saccule function via cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential (cVEMP), in patients with vitamin D deficiency. Subjects and Methods: After routine audiological tests, cVEMP were recorded in 15 patients with vitamin D deficiency and 16 normal subjects. The short tone burst (95 dB nHL, 500 Hz) was presented to ears. cVEMP was recorded with surface electromyography over the contracted ipsilateral sternocleidomastoid muscle. Results: Mean of p13, n13, interpeak latencies and amplitude ratios were measured in both groups. Statistical analysis did not show differences between two groups. Conclusions: Maybe serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration was not low enough to have effect on saccule in the patients in present study or saccule have had low susceptibility to effects of vitamin D deficiency. For better judgment about effect of vitamin D deficiency on saccular function planning studies with high sample size is recommended.

The medical industries are integrated with information technology with mobile devices and wireless communication. The advent of mobile healthcare systems can benefit patients and hospitals, by not only providing better quality of patient care, but also by reducing administrative and medical costs for both patients and hospitals. Security issues present an interesting research topic in wireless and pervasive healthcare networks. As information technology is developed, many organizations such as government agencies, public institutions, and corporations have employed an information system to enhance the efficiency of their work processes. For the past few years, healthcare organizations throughout the world have been adopting health information systems (HIS) based on the wireless network infrastructure. As a part of the wireless network, a mobile agent has been employed at a large scale in hospitals due to its outstanding mobility. Several vulnerabilities and security requirements related to mobile devices should be considered in implementing mobile services in the hospital environment. Secure authentication and protocols with a mobile agent for applying ubiquitous sensor networks in a healthcare system environment is proposed and analyzed in this paper.
This paper proposes a new design of the ECG simulator with high resolution by using small amount of memories based on discrete least square estimation equations instead of reading the stored data inside the look-up table. The experimental results have shown that the ECG simulator using discrete least square estimation equations can display the bipolar limb leads ECG signals with low PRD (percent root-mean-square difference) while taking the less amount of memories than the previous method which used the look-up table to store ECG data for ECG simulation.
Picture archiving and communications systems(PACS) for digital image distribution, archiving and transmission, represent the modern hospital. PACS is the medical image management system within a hospital, whereas teleradiology system is the medical image communication system between remote sites. PACS and teleradiology systems usually consists of mainly four parts such as image acquisition part, image storage and database part, Image communication network part, and image display workstation part. Among these components comprised In the PACS, workstations are the point of contact between a PACS and the radiologist or referring physician. Therefore, the acceptance of PACS is highly dependent on workstation functionality, performance and easy of use compared with the conventional film-based radiology. This paper describes overall configurations and some requirements of PACS and teleradiology.

Chronic diseases management can be effectively achieved through early detection, continuous treatment, observation, and self-management, rather than a radar approach where patients are treated only when they visit a medical facility. However, previous studies have not been able to provide integrated chronic disease management services by considering generalized services such as hypertension and diabetes management, and difficult to expand and link to other services using only specific sensors or services. This paper proposes clinical rule flow model based on medical data analysis to provide personalized care for chronic disease management. Also, we implemented that as Rule-based Smart Healthcare System (RSHS). The proposed system executes chronic diseases management rules, manages events and delivers individualized knowledge information by user's request. The proposed system can be expanded into a variety of applications such as diet and exercise service in the future.
