  • A 2-D median filter has many applications in various image and video signal processing areas. The rapid development in VLSI technology makes it possible to implement a real-time or near real-time 2-D median filter with reasonable cost. For the efficient VLSI implementation, the algorithm should have characteristics such as small memory requirements, regular computations, and local data transfers. This paper presents an architecture of the real-time two-dimensional separable median filter which has appropriate characteristics for the VLSI implementation. For the efficient two-dimensional median filter, a separable two-dimensional median filtering structure and a bit-sliced pipelined median searching algorithm are used. A behavioral simulator is implemented with C language and used for the analysis of the presented architecture.

  • Background: Dual-energy X-ray images (DEI) can distinguish or improve materials of interest in a two-dimensional radiographic image, by combining two images obtained from separate low and high energies. The concepts of DEI performance describing the performance of double-exposure DEI systems in the Fourier domain been previously introduced, however, the performance of double-exposure DEI itself in terms of various parameters, has not been reported. Materials and Methods: To investigate the DEI performance, signal-difference-to-noise ratio, modulation transfer function, noise power spectrum, and noise equivalent quanta were used. Low- and high-energy were 60 and 130 kVp with 0.01-0.09 mGy, respectively. The energy-separation filter material and its thicknesses were tin (Sn) and 0.0-1.0 mm, respectively. Noise-reduction (NR) filtering used the Gaussian-filter NR, median-filter NR, and anti-correlated NR. Results and Discussion: DEI performance was affected by Sn-filter thickness, weighting factor, and dose allocation. All NR filtering successfully reduced noise, when compared with the dual-energy (DE) images without any NR filtering. Conclusion: The results indicated the significance of investigating, and evaluating suitable DEI performance, for DE images in chest radiography applications. Additionally, all the NR filtering methods were effective at reducing noise in the resultant DE images.

  • In this paper we implemented various image processing filtering using the format converter. This design method is based on realized the large processor-per-pixel array by integrated circuit technology. These two types of integrated structure are can be classify associative parallel processor and parallel process DRAM (or SRAM) cell. Layout pitch of one-bit-wide logic is Identical memory cell pitch to array high density PEs in integrate structure. This format converter design has control path implementation efficiently, and can be utilize the high technology without complicated controller hardware. Sequence of array instruction are generated by host computer before process start, and instructions are saved on unit controller. Host computer is executed the pixel-parallel operation starting at saved instructions after processing start. As a result, we obtained three result that 1) simple smoothing suppresses higher spatial frequencies, reducing noise but also blurring edges, 2) a smoothing and segmentation process reduces noise while preserving sharp edges, and 3) median filtering may be applied to reduce image noise. Median filtering eliminates spikes while maintaining sharp edges and preserving monotonic variations in pixel values.

  • In this paper, the differential weighted algorithm proposed in order to improve th noise smoothing characteristics of conventional Median filter and FIR-Median Hybrid filter. Performance of some image restoration filter(median filter, FIR-Median Hybird filter, FIR-Median Hybrid filter to proposed differential weighted algorithm) are compared and evaluated on the noise smoothing characteristics and sharp edge conservation characteristics. Test and Real images used in this paper are Lenna and Urological images corrupted by impulse, gaussian, exponential and laplacian noise. Experimental results show that the FIR-Median Hybrid filter applied to the differential weighted algorithm are comparatively superior to others. But the filter orders have increased, the more time consumed to image processing. Hence if the adequate filtering by the type of image is selected. now after a great support will be take consideration into the various parts of application by computer science and of medical image processing.

  • Images are easily corrupted by noise during the data transmission, data capture and data processing. A technical method of noise analyzing and adaptive filtering for reducing of quantum noise in radiography is presented. By adjusting the characteristics of the filter according to local statistics around each pixel of the image as moving windowing, it is possible to suppress noise sufficiently while preserve edge and other significant information required in reading. We have proposed adaptive weighted median(AWM) filters based on local statistics. We show two ways of realizing the AWM filters. One is a simple type of AWM filter, whose weights are given by a simple non-linear function of three local characteristics. The other is the AWM filter which is constructed by homogeneous factor(HF). Homogeneous factor(HF) from the quantum noise models that enables the filter to recognize the local structures of the image is introduced, and an algorithm for determining the HF fitted to the detection systems with various inner statistical properties is proposed. We show by the experimented that the performances of proposed method is superior to these of other filters and models in preserving small details and suppressing the noise at homogeneous region. The proposed algorithms were implemented by visual C++ language on a IBM-PC Pentium 550 for testing purposes, the effects and results of the noise filtering were proposed by comparing with images of the other existing filtering methods.

  • In this paper an efficient algorithm is proposed to remove additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) with edge preservation. A function is used to separate the filtering mask to two sets according to the direction information. Then, we calculate the mean and standard deviation of the pixels in each set. In order to preserve the details, we also compare standard deviations between the two sets to find out smaller one. Corrupted pixel is replaced by the mean of the filtering window's median value and the smaller set's mean value that the rate of change is faster than the other one. Experiment results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms with significant improvement in image quality than the conventional algorithms. The proposed method removes the Gaussian noise very effectively.

  • This paper presents robust and efficient scene-based video watermarking method using visual rhythm (spatio-temporal slice) in compressed domain. Scene change can be detected easily using visual rhythm and video sequences are conveniently edited at the scene boundaries. Therefore, scene-based watermark embedding Process it a natural choice. Temporal spread spectrum can be achieved by applying spread spectrum methods to visual rhythm. Additive Gaussian noise, low-pass filtering, median filtering and histogram equalization attack are simulated for all frames. Frame sub-sampling is also simulated as a typical video attack Simulation results show that proposed algorithm is robust and efficient in the presence of such kind of attacks.

  • In this paper, we propose two new detection-estimation based algorithms that effectively remove impulsive noises in severely corrupted color images. The existing methods for enhancing corrupted color images with impulsive noises commonly possess the inherent problems of excessive computing time and smoothing out edges. However, since our proposed algorithms classify corrupted pixels first in each channel or in each pixel and then perform marginal or vector median filtering only for them, are computationally efficient and preserve edges well. In addition, since there are no appropriate criteria to evaluate the performance of impulsive noise detectors for color images, the objective comparison of noise detectors is difficult. Thus, we introduce a new efficiency factor to compare the performance of noise detectors in digital color images. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithms perform better than the existing methods in terms of both objective and subjective evaluat ons.

  • Although the existing NTSC TV standard is highly sophisticated, it has some inherent problems. One of these problems is interlaced scanning, which yields a poor result in terms of the vertical picture resolution. In this paper, we have proposed the interlace to progressive conversion method using the pseudomedian filters. Since the proposed method is processed in the intra field is different from the conventional method using the median filter, it is implemented without using field memory and its performance is same or nearly the same as the corresponding performance of the median filtering method. The performance of the proposed method has been compared with that of conventional methods through computer simulation.

  • A new method is proposed for stereo vision where solution to disparity map is presented in terms of Line constraint and Reliability space -- the first constraint proposes a progressive framework for stereo matching which applies local area pixel-values from corresponding lines in the left and right image pairs. The second states that reliability space based on corresponding points records the disparity and then we are able to apply the median filter in order to reduce the noises which occur in the process. A coarse to fine result is presented after the median filtering, which improves the final result qualitatively. Experiment is evaluated by rectified stereo matching images pairs from Middlebury datasets and has proved that those two adopted strategies yield good matching quantitative results in terms of fast running speed.
