  • Many daily appliances for examples copiers, printers and ATMs contain the media transport system (MTS) and the slippage between the medium in the MTS deteriorates the performance quality of the whole system. The slippage of the medium in the MTS is affected by many parameters including the friction coefficient between the feeding rollers and the medium, the velocity of the feeding rollers, and the normal force exerted on the medium by feeding rollers. This paper focuses on the effect of the normal force on the slippage while the medium is being fed. For this purpose, we developed a two-dimensional simulation model for a paper feeding system. Using the simulation model, we calculated the slippage of the paper for different normal forces. We have also constructed a testbed of the paper feeding system to verify the simulation results. Experimental results are compared with the simulation results.

  • Synchronization between media is an important aspect in the design of multimedia streaming system. This paper proposes a precise media synchronization mechanism for digital video and audio transport over IP networks. To support synchronization between video and audio bitstreams transported over IP networks, RTP/RTCP protocol suite is usually employed. To provide a precise mechanism for media synchronization between video and audio, we suggest an efficient media synchronization algorithm based on NPT (Normal Play Time) which can be derivable from the timestamp information in the header part of RTP packet generated for the transport of video and audio streams. With the proposed method, we do not need to send and process any RTCP SR (sender report) packet which is required for conventional media synchronization scheme, and accordingly could reduce the number of required UDP ports and the amount of control traffic injected into the network.

  • This paper proposes a prototype realization of multi-view HD video transport system with synchronized multiplexing over IP networks. The proposed synchronized multiplexing considers the synchronization during video acquisition and the multiplexing for the interactive view-selection during transport. For the synchronized acquisition from multiple HDV camcorders through IEEE 1394 interface, we estimate the timeline differences among MPEG-2 compressed video streams by using global time of network between the cameras and a server and correct timelines of video streams by changing the time stamp of the MPEG-2 system stream. Also, we multiplex a selected number of acquired HD views at the MPEG-2 TS (transport stream) level for the interactive view-selection during transport. Thus, with the proposed synchronized multiplexing scheme, we can display synchronized HD view.

  • It has been known that transport characteristics of ions are very complicated in CEDI system due to the inter-relations between ion exchange media and solution. Thus, this study sought to determine the ionic mobility of cobalt ion through cation exchange textile under electroregeneration and consequently verify the transport mechanisms of cobalt ion in a CEDI system.(omitted)

  • The paper presents a novel embedded multifunctional media sever (EMMS) for mobile devices to receive various media programs. Being different from other contemporary system research, the paper mainly studies how to design a reception solution for terrestrial digital television (DTV) on mobile devices and how to enable mobile devices can receive DTV program, enjoy video-on-demand (VOD), achieve video surveillance and relay Internet video program via local Wi-Fi simultaneously. In the system design, we integrate broadcasting-terrestrial DTV tuner, streaming media re-transmission system, VOD disk, video camera and access interface to the Internet into EMMS, which can either receive terrestrial DTV radio signals and demodulate out digital transport stream (TS), or can read streaming media bit-stream from VOD disk, surveillance camera or access interface to the Internet. The experimental results show the proposed system is stable and quality-efficient. Comparing with the other systems, the proposed system has the least packet loss rate and response time.

  • In this paper, we made a simple paper feeding system which is one of MTS (media transport system) and controllers. The plant has a flexible paper and two driving rollers and two driven rollers. The control system has two conventional PID controllers. Skew angle and feeding speed of MTS deteriorate the quality of feeding system. In order to control a feeding speed and skew of feeding paper, we control rotational velocity of two driving rollers. Therefore, this controller has two inputs and two outputs as MIMO (multi-input and multi-output) system. The control inputs were the feeding speed and the skew displacement of the paper. The control outputs were the rotational velocity to each driving roller. To find appropriate PID gains of two controllers, we proposed an optimization technique. We assume the system variables and performance of a whole system as follows. PID gains of two controllers for skew and feeding speed are system variables. System performance is both skew and feeding speed. We simulates to making mathematical correlation using global Kriging interpolation. To find appropriate value of system variables, optimization method is simulation in sequence as following method. First, the optimization solver simulates with DOE (design of experiment) tables to find correlation equation of both system variable and performances. Then, the solver guesses the appropriate values and simulates if the system variables are appropriate or not. If the result of validation doesn't satisfy the convergence and iteration tolerance, the solver makes a new Kriging models and iterates this sequence until satisfy the tolerances.

  • This paper proposes real-time video transmission system by the car-mounted cameras based on MOST Network. Existing vehicles transmit videos by connecting the car-mounted cameras in the form of analog. However, the increase in the number of car-mounted cameras leads to development of the network to connect the cameras. In this paper, DSP is applied to process MPEG 2 encoding/decoding for real-time video transmission in a short period of time. MediaLB is employed to transfer data stream between DSP and MOST network controller. During this procedure, DSP cannot transport data stream directly from MediaLB. Therefore, FPGA is used to deliver data stream transmitting MediaLB to DSP. MediaLB is designed to streamline hardware/software application development for MOST Network and to support all MOST Network data transportation methods. As seen in this paper, the test results verify that real-time video transmission using proposed system operates in a normal matter.

  • In this paper, we propose a reliable high-speed UDP-based media transport with an adaptive error control. The proposed adaptive transport scheme controls the amount of redundancy by monitoring the network in order to adapt to network fluctuations efficiently. The feedback of receiver enables the sender to be aware of current reception status (i.e., rate and type of packet loss) and to estimate the expected network status. Based on this, the proposed transport attempts to enable reliable transport by adaptively controlling the amount of both whole sending rate and the ratio for adaptive FEC code. Experiment with high-speed network has been conducted to verify the performance of the proposed system that demonstrates the enhanced reliability of the proposed transport at the speed of up to several hundred Mbps.

  • This paper deals with our experience for the design and implementation of Transport and Session managers in the Integrated Streaming Service Architecture (IS SA) that was developed by the authors. The ISSA is a streaming framework that allows to develop integrated multimedia streaming applications such as VOD system in unicast/multicast and real-time broadcastOive-cast). It also facilities standard real-time transport protocols such as RTp(Real-Time Transport Protocol)/RTCP(Real-time Control Protocol) and RTSP(Real-Time Streaming ProtocoD that allows to user openness. The ISSA supports diverse media fonnats and is independent from underlying networks and operating systems, and compatible with the global real-time multimedia database system (BeeHive) so that streaming media are efficiently retrieved, stored, and serviced. The role of the Transport Manager is to do packetization and depacketization for the different types of multimedia data and delivers the packetized media data in real-time. The Transport Manager uses RTP protocol. The role of the Session Manager is to establish and control the media channel by using RTSP protocol and to deliver the database transactions for the multimedia database by using RTTP(Real-Time Transaction Protocol) protocol. Both the Transport and Session Manager are doing their functions through the network interface in the ISSA that allows developers to various network programming interfaces and provides flexibility to the system.
