  • Purpose - The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of ex ante governance mechanisms that can be exercised by franchisers on franchise contract compliance and various relationship outcomes. There are many previous studies on control mechanisms in inter-firm relationship, however, most studies focus on ex post governance mechanisms and identify the effects of behavior control and outcome control on performances. Based on transaction cost theory and agency theory, this study defines the ex ante governance mechanisms of franchisers as contractual completeness and extra contractual incentives. The author have examined the two ex ante control mechanisms on contract compliance, recontract intention, multi-shop running intention and opportunistic behaviors of franchisee. Research design, data, and methodology - In this study, 137 questionnaires of food and beverage franchise stores were collected through a specialized research company. The reliability and validity of the variables were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 programs and hypotheses were verified through the structural equation modeling. Results - As a result of hypothesis testing, contractual completeness and extra contractual incentives have a positive effect on the contract compliance of the franchisee. It is shown that franchisee's contract compliance has a positive effect on recontract intention and multi-shop running intention and has a negative effect on opportunistic behaviors. Conclusions - This study examines the ex ante governance mechanisms such as contractual completeness and extra contractual incentives, which is relatively rare compared to ex post governance mechanism in B2B relationship. According to the results of this research, these two tools can be used as ex ante control mechanisms for franchise headquarters to use their franchisees. In addition, franchisee's contract compliance affects various relationship outcomes between franchisor and franchisees.

  • The robot mechanisms that were previously researched had only been conducted for the purpose of overcoming the obstacles stably at low speed driving and enhancing the stability against high speed circuitous driving, and yet, the mechanism satisfying two purposes. However, in order to stably drive with high speed on rough terrain, there is a need for satisfying both of these purposes, as well as testing the efficiency of the mechanisms at high speed driving. There, this paper simulated some of the passive mechanisms and focused on checking the performances of passive mechanisms through simulations and analyzing each mechanism on the basis of an evaluation index. The simulation was conducted by Adams (The Multi-body Dynamics Simulation Solution) and used various types of passive mechanisms which were introduced in the robotics field. As a result, the study confirmed that passive mechanisms have a number of situations that affect the driving stability on each direction of roll and pitch. Further study is needed about active mechanism.

  • In this paper, we investigate the interworking method between three transport mechanisms, that is, ATM transport, IP$_v$4 transport and Ip$_v$6transport, where these mechanisms are wholly used in a Mobile RAN (Radio Access Network). The proposed interworking method, called Triple Capable Node, is to implement three transport mechanisms simultaneously in a single node so that the node can communicate directly to other nodes having various transport mechanisms by using one of three transport mechanisms. In addition, we propose a dynamic algorithm which selects one among multiple transport mechanisms at run time in order to achieve better communication performance.

  • This study presents failure mechanisms for the pull-out strength of headed reinforcement for upper bound solution based on the limit theorem. The failure mechanisms to be presented follow the failure surface pattern of punching shear failure found in the joints of slab with a column. Several failure surfaces of the mechanisms have different characteristics for dissipation works and these mechanisms are able to interpret the role of bar details surrounding headed reinforcement.

  • Electrical conduction mechanisms of RuO2-based thick film resistors were investigated with frequency depandence on AC conductivity. Electrical conduction mechanisms of lower resistivity system (100{{{{ OMEGA }}/sq) sintered at 600~90$0^{\circ}C$ were all metallic conduction mechanism. In case of higher resistivity (10K{{{{ OMEGA }}/sq) system, the electrical conduction mechanisms were very depenent on sintering temperature. When sintering temperature was $600^{\circ}C$, the electrical conduction mechamism was ionic, and as increasing the sintering temperature, the electrical conduction mechanism was changed from ionic to hopping conduction mechanism.

  • The U.S. Congress has been known to effectively control the bureaucracy. On one hand, Congress adjusts the degree of discretion provided to the bureaucracy when making agencies or legislation: ex ante control. On the other hand, it also performs the oversight activities to punish or correct undesirable behaviors of bureaucrats: ex post control. While the dynamics of each control mechanism is widely examined theoretically, few have attempted to empirically investigate this with a special attention to partisan politics in Congress. I attempt to fill this gap by measuring the two types of control mechanisms, testing theoretical assertions, and analyzing the dynamics under the two control mechanisms.

  • The main goal of this paper is to understand the underlying cognitive mechanisms of collaborative learning and how it can be supported by technology. The paper first overviews changes in conceptions of learning and distinguishes different types of joint works including collaborative learning. Cognitive mechanisms of collaborative learning are examined in terms of resource pooling, facilitation of constructive activities, knowledge co-construction, and supports for monitoring and regulation. Socio-emotional mechanisms of collaborative learning moderate the directions and strengths of these cognitive mechanisms. Technology supports these mechanisms in a number of different ways. Seven major supports technology provides for collaborative learning are discussed. A deeper understanding of the cognitive mechanisms of collaborative learning can help us to harness the benefits of collaborative learning better and also to develop more sophisticated tools supporting collaborative learning.

  • Mitochondria are crucial organelles that generate cellular energy and metabolites. Recent studies indicate that mitochondria also regulate immunity. In this review, we discuss key roles of mitochondria in immunity against pathogen infection and underlying mechanisms, focusing on discoveries using Caenorhabditis elegans. Various mitochondrial processes, including mitochondrial surveillance mechanisms, mitochondrial unfolded protein response ($UPR^{mt}$), mitophagy, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, contribute to immune responses and resistance of C. elegans against pathogens. Biological processes of C. elegans are usually conserved across phyla. Thus, understanding the mechanisms of mitochondria-mediated defense responses in C. elegans may provide insights into similar mechanisms in complex organisms, including mammals.

  • This study examines whether trading mechanisms or market microstructures of markets have an effect on the integration issue of the international equity market. If the international equity market is integrated, identical stocks listed on different international stock exchanges should have the same rates of return, the same characteristics of stock price behavior and similar distributions of return. If different market microstructures, or trading mechanisms cause differences in characteristics of stock price behavior, those can lead to different rates of return because of different liquidity risk for the same stocks between markets. This study proposes international asset pricing with liquidity risk related to trading mechanisms. Systematic risk by itself cannot predict the sign of expected rate of return difference for the same stocks between international markets. Liquidity risk factors related to market microstructure provide explanations for the sign of rate of return differences between markets, However, liquidity risk factors related to market microstructure do not have a significant effect on the rate of return differences and sensitivity of return differences between markets, Trading mechanisms or market microstructures might not have a significant effect on the interpretation of the international equity market integration studies, if trading volume or other factors are controlled.
