  • This paper shows an example of the Design Review and Common-Cause Failure (CCF) Modeling of mechanical Parts. Reliability should be continuously monitored during the entire period of design. Design Review is the procedure to improve the reliability for the product. We proposed the reliability assessment and design review method. CCF Model is the general dependent model considering the failure mode effects several component simultaneously. This study considers the computation of the network with dependent components. It is important that CCF model is applied for mechanical pars.

선삭가공에 있어서 AE 신호와 표면 거칠기에 의한 공구손상에 대한 평가 (An Estimation of Tool Failure by Means of AE Signal and Surface Roughess in Turning Machining)

  • In this study, using in-process tool failure detecting system by AE method in turning machining, we measured AE signal from the tool, and the surface roughness of workpiece and then compared it with tool wear. As a result, we found that tool failure can be predicted by means of surface roughness of the workpiece and it can be predicted more precisely by the arithmetical average roughness (Ra) than by the maximum height of irregularities (Rmax) of the workpiece. Also, we found that we could judge whether it was sudden failure or the wear by means of the shape of AE signal and the range distri- bution of power spectrum frequency when tool danage was happened.

  • The objective of this study is to propose the FE model for mechanical clinched joint using cohesive zone model to analyze its failure behavior under impact loading. Cohesive zone model (CZM) is two-parameter failure criteria approach, which could describe the failure behavior of joint using critical stress and fracture toughness. In this study, the relationship between failure behavior of mechanical clinched joint and fracture parameters is investigated by FE analysis with CZM. Using this relationship, the critical stress and fracture toughness for tensile and shear mode are determined by H-type tensile test and lap shear test, which were made of 5052 aluminum alloy. The fracture parameters were applied to the tophat impact test to evaluate the crashworthiness. Compared penetration depth and energy absorption at the point where 50% of total displacement in result of FE analysis and experiment test for impact test, those has shown similar crashworthiness.

크랭크 레버형 평행개폐 공기압 척의 수명 분석 (Life Analysis of Parallel Opening Type Pneumatic Chuck)

  • In this study, performs analysis of the life of parallel opening type pneumatic chucks that are usually applied in the factory automation line. Pneumatic chucks have complicated failure cause because they are organized as a complex of various elements. Therefore, we analyzed the main failure mode of pneumatic chuck, and then performed life test and performance test according to the international standards. On the basis of these processes, shape parameter of pneumatic chuk is proposed that is the main factor for the calculation of zero failure test time for the reliability of pneumatic chuck and their data analysis of life distribution.

Failure Investigation of Fire-Side Water-Wall Tube Boiler

  • Unforeseen failures of boilers in power plants may affect the continuation of electricity generation. Main failures in boilers are influenced by the tube material, tube position, boiler service temperature and pressure, and chemical composition of the feed water and coal. This investigation was intended to find answers on the causes and mechanism of failure of the fire-side boiler water-wall tubes, due to perforation and corrosion. The tube conformed to the material requirements in terms of its chemical composition and hardness. Microscopic examination showed ferrite and pearlite indicating no changes in its microstructure due to the temperature variation. SEM test showed a single layer and homogenous film density particularly on the area far from perforation. However, layers of corrosion product were formed on the nearby perforation area. EDX showed that there were Na, Ca, S, and O elements on the failed surface. XRD indicated the presence of Fe2O3 oxide. The failure mechanism was identified as a result of significant localized wall thinning of the boiler water wall-tube due to oxidation.

미시역학적 파손 기준을 이용한 탄소섬유/에폭시 복합재 링크의 안전성 평가 (Safety Evaluation of Carbon Fiber/Epoxy Composite Link Using Micromechanics of Failure Criterion)

  • 본 연구에서는 경량화를 위해 금속 링크를 탄소섬유/에폭시 복합재 링크로 대체하고자 파손 기준을 이용하여 복합재 링크가 주어진 하중 조건을 견딜 수 있는지를 평가하였다. 복합재의 파손 양상을 예측하기 위해 MMF 기준을 이용하였고, 기계적 시험을 수행하여 MMF의 기준 강도 파라미터를 구하였다. 연구결과 링크의 구멍 주위에서 응력집중이 발생하였고, 특히 굽힘 하중을 받을 때 링크 끝단과 구멍 주위에서 취약함이 드러났다. 파손 지수로부터 파손 양상을 예측하였고 매트릭스 인장 파손이 링크 끝단에서, 그리고 구멍 주위에서는 섬유의 압축 파손이 예측되었다. 본 연구를 통해 확보된 방법과 결과는 경량화를 위해 금속 부품을 탄소섬유/에폭시 복합재로 대체할 때 특정 하중 조건 하에서 복합재의 안전성을 평가하는 유용한 지침으로 활용할 수 있을 것이다.

  • The reliability data analysis for components of CNC machining center is studied in this paper. The failure data of mechanical part is analyzed by Exponential, Weibull, and Log-normal distributions. And then, the optimum failure distribution model is selected by goodness of fit test. The reliability data analysis program is developed with ASP language to use on the Internet. The failure rate, MTBF, life, and failure mode of mechanical parts are estimated and searched by this program. The failure data and analysis results are stored in the database.

기계류부품 신뢰성보증을 위한 2단계 시험방식 설계 (A Two-stage Reliability Demonstration Test for Mechanical Components)

  • In the fields of mechanical reliability application, "zero" or "zero or one" failure tests are most commonly used for demonstrating reliability of a product since they reduce test duration and/or sample size compared to other test methods that guarantees the same reliability of a product with a given confidence level or consumer's risk. The test duration of the "zero or one" failure test is longer than that of "zero" failure test but it has advantage of smaller producer's risk. In this paper a two-stage test is developed that compromises the "zero" and "zero or one" failure tests. The properties of the proposed two-stage test are investigated and the three test methods are compared using a numerical example.

브레이징 접합부의 강도평가 및 고장분석 (An Analysis for Failure Mechanisms and Strength Evaluation on Brazed Joint)

  • The present paper is aiming at the evaluation for failure mechanisms and static strength of brazed joints used in household electronics. For these purposes, the failure analysis was performed on the various brazed joints, through the bursting, the micro-Victors hardness tests and 3-dimensional X-ray technique. The failure modes of brazed joints were classified into two different types, based on the results of bursting pressure test by means of self-designed internal-pressure testing machine. Their failure mechanism was dependent on the relationship between heat effect occurred in manufacturing process and internal flaws such as incomplete penetration and pin hole. Also, a finite element analysis was performed to evaluate the stress distribution with respect to the heat and the internal flaws.

디칸터의 고장분석 및 성능 향상에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Failure Analysis and Performance Improvement of a Decanter)

  • In this study, the failure analysis of a decanter is carried out and the methods of performance improvement are presented. The decanter is a centrifugal separator that is used to separate water and solids from municipal and industrial sludge. Therefore, the decanter should be designed to improve the dewatering of sludge. Besides high performance, the decanter should guarantee its life time under a severe using condition. For theses reasons, the failure analysis and performance improvement of the decanter are studied. It is found from this study that the failure is caused by mass unbalance, wear, clogging or crack. If these failure causes are prevented, the life time as well as the performance is expected to be improved.
