The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanical and carbon-capture properties of foam concrete containing stainless steel argon oxygen decarbonization(AOD) slag. AOD slag was used as a binder, and foam concrete having a foaming ratio of 69 ± 0.5 % and a slurry density of 573.2 to 578.6 kg / ㎥ was produced. In order to examine the effect of carbonation, blended specimen was cured by two types : normal curing and CO2 curing. As a result of the experiment, the specimens incorporating AOD slag showed higher compressive strength than Plain after CO2 curing. According to the analysis of the image of foam concrete, it was confirmed that the ST30 has a lower total pore volume and average pore size than plain, resulting in high compressive strength. The SEM analysis confirmed the formation of calcite by carbonation of AOD slag. Through the thermogravimetric analysis, the increase of CO2 uptake was confirmed by the incorporation of AOD slag. Foam concrete has a higher porosity than normal concrete, so it is expected that carbon-capture performance can be improved by using a AOD slag.
In this paper, an investigation was conducted to evaluate the acoustic performance of low height noise barriers installed adjacent to rails; an easy-to-use approximation formula was suggested for the evaluation of insertion loss (IL), instead of using the boundary element method. At first, the acoustic performance of the low height noise barriers was measured in an anechoic chamber using a scaled down model; the overall IL according to the source location was analyzed with the equivalent IL contour line. Using the measurement results obtained from the scaled down model, an approximation formula was suggested for the IL of low height noise barriers having various shapes. Also, the prediction program was validated through a comparison between the actual measurement results in the anechoic chamber and the prediction results. Finally, using the prediction program, an approximation formula for IL was suggested for the low height noise absorption barriers. Considering the frequency characteristics of the noise sources of the train, the absorptive low height noise barriers have a 'ㄱ' type shape, a height of 1.0m, and a length of 0.5m when they are installed on the structure gauge for the train.

The deformed degree of car body varies largely with the collision part from side collision of car-to-car. In case of deformation of car body caused by collision, the movement is different as speed energy changes to strain energy. Generally, in the analysis of traffic accident, the movement of car after the collision is analyzed by law of conservation of motion and the error of energy absorption rate along the deformation of car body can be calibrated by inputting coefficient of restitution, but it is current situation that coefficient of restitution applied by referring to the research results of forward collision and backward collision because the research results of side collision is rare. Vehicle model of finite element method applied by structure of car body and materials of each component was analyzed by explicit finite element method, and coefficient of restitution and collision detection time along contact part of side collision was drawn by analyzing the results. Analysis result acquired through the law of conservation momentum by applying finally-computed coefficient of restitution and crash detection time compared to collision result of actual vehicle. As a result, the reliability of analysis was higher than the existing analysis method were acquired when applying the drawn initial input value that used finite element method analysis model.

Urban railway tunnels are polluted by resuspension of deposited bottom dust or newly generated wear dust. A hybrid type dust collector consisting of a baffle and an electrostatic precipitator was developed to remove these types of airborne dust when trains are running in the tunnel. Since dust collection efficiency of the hybrid dust collector is inversely proportional to the airflow rate, the relationship between airflow rate and dust collection efficiency was experimentally investigated for two baffle models. Collection efficiencies for dust larger than $0.5{\mu}m$ for the hybrid dust collector model A1, operated at 3.4 m/s, were greater than 30%; those for the hybrid dust collector model A2, operated at 4.7 m/s, were higher than 20%. When the applied voltage was 13 kV, the amounts of $PM_{10}$ collected with model A1 and model A2 dust collectors were estimated at $253{\mu}g$ and $242{\mu}g$ per hour, respectively.
In this work, diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA)/polyetherimide (PEI) blends were cured using 4,4-diaminodiphenyl methane (DDM). And the effects of addition of different PEI contents to neat DGEBA were investigated in the thermal properties and fracture toughness of the blends. The contents of contents of containing PEI were varied in 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10 phr. The cure activation energies ($E_a$) of the cured specimens were determined by Kissinger equation and the mechanical interfacial properties of the specimens were performed by critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$). Also their surfaces were examined by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the surface energetics of blends was determined by contact angles. As a result, $E_a$ and $K_{IC}$ showed maximum values in the 7.5 phr PEI. This result was interpreted in the increment of the network structure of DGEBA/PEI blends. Also, the surface energetics of the DGEBA/PEI blends showed a similar behavior with the results of $K_{IC}$. This was probably due to the improving of specific or polor component of the surface free energy of DGEBA/PEI blends, resulting in increasing the hydrogen bonding of the hydroxyl and imide groups of the blends.

The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) plays an important role in maintaining a healthy retina and the degeneration of RPE caused a number of retinal diseases. The transplantation of RPE has recently become a possible therapeutic modality for retinal degeneration. To transplant RPE cells securely, substrates are essential, and then as a substrate, we fabricated films using silk that has unique mechanical properties and biocompatibility. After the FTIR spectra, contact angle and biodegradation of silk films were confirmed, RPE cells were seeded and the influence of RPE cells on silk films was examined. We measured the cell adhesion, cell viability, morphology and specific mRNA expression by MTT assay, SEM, immunofluorescence and RT-PCR. In this study, we confirmed that attachment, proliferation and phenotype maintenance of RPE cells cultured on silk films were great, and thereby we were able to confirm the potential applications of silk films as tissue engineering carrier for regeneration of retina.
In the construction of high-rise buildings, bent re-bars are manually straightened to connect slabs to core-walls, which are usually cast before floor structures. During cold bending and straightening of re-bars, plastic deformation causing work hardening, Bauschinger effect and aging hardening is unavoidable. Tensile tests of coldly bent and straightened re-bars were conducted with test parameters of grade, diameter, and bend radius of re-bars as well as age between bending and straightening. Test results showed that proportional limits were lower and strain hardening occurred without yield plateaus. Inside and outside of re-bars with compression and tension deformations, respectively, during bending showed lower yield points due to Bauschinger effect and no yield plateaus due to work hardening, respectively. When re-bar grade was higher, yield point became significantly lower where Grade 400 re-bars had yield strengths lower than specified yield strength of 400 MPa. Because the surface of re-bar has higher strength than the core of re-bar, Bauschinger effect was more obvious for higher-grade re-bars. When age between bending and straightening was greater, yield strength increased and elongation decreased (i.e. embrittlement occurs). Using measured data, stress-strain relationship for straightened re-bars was developed based on Ramberg-Osgood model, which can be used to evaluate stiffness of joints when straightened re-bars are applied.
This paper proposes a novel airfoil named "KA2" for the blade of the wind turbine systems. Dynamic loads characteristics are analyzed and compared using aerodynamic data of ten airfoils including the proposed airfoil. The blade is divided into the sixteen elements in the longitudinal direction of the blade for applying the Blade Element Method Theory (BEMT) method, and in each element, torque, thrust, and pitching moment are calculated using turbulent time varying wind speed and aerodynamic data of each wing. Additionally, each force and torque is accumulated in the whole region of the blade for the estimation of representative values. The magnitude of such forces is comparatively analyzed for different airfoils. The angle of attack is constant below the rated wind speed due to the fact that the tip speed ratio is kept at the constant value, and it increases in the region of over rated wind speed as the tip speed ratio decreasing with constant rated rpm and increasing wind speed. Such increase in the angle of attack causes the changes of the force acting on the airfoil with different characteristics of lift and drag in the stall region of each different airfoil. Even though the mean wind speed is in the rated speed in a given time, because of the turbulence, it has either the over rated or under rated speed most of the time. Furthermore, the dynamic properties of each force are analyzed in this rated wind speed in order to objectively understand the dynamic properties of the blades which are designed based on the different airfoils. These dynamic properties are also compared by the standard deviation of time varying characteristics. Moreover, the output characteristics of the wind turbine are investigated with different airfoils and wind speeds. Based on these investigations, it was revealed that the proposed airfoil (KA2) is well applicable to the blade with passive pitch control system.
A study on friction welding of carbon steel bar (SM45C) to chrome molybedenum steel bar(SCM4) is examined experimentally through tensile test, hardness test, microstructure test and fatigue test. so, this paper deals with optimizing the welding concitions and analyzing various mechanical properties about friction welds of SM45C to SCM4 steel bars. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1) For friction welded joints of SM45C to SCM4 steel bars, the total upset(U)increases linearly with an increase of heating time ($t_{1}$) till 6s. 2) The determined optimum welding conditions are heating time ($t_{1}$)2s, upsetting time($t_{2}$), 3s, heating pressure($p_{1}$), 4kgf/$mm^{2}$(39.2MPa), upsetting pressure($p_{2}$, 8kgf/mm$^{2}$(78.4MPa) and rotating speed(N), 2, 000rpm when the total upset(U) is 3.4mm, resulting in a computed relationship between the joint tensile strength .sigma.$_{t}$ (kgf/mm$^{2}$and the total upset U(mm); .sigma.$_{t}$ =$0.21U^{3}$ - $3.38U^{2}$ +17.03U + 66.00 3) As the elongation is increased more and more, the fracture position becomes away from weld interface and the fractures are similar to those of SM45C. Fracture is taken place on SM45C side. 4) The weld interface of two dissimilar materials is mixed strongly, and the heat affected zone is about 2.0mm at SM45C while about 2.7 mm at SCM4 side. Therefore, the welded zone and heat affected zone are very narrow, comparing with those of the joints welded by the other welding methods. 5) The fatigue strengths at N=10$^{6}$ cycles of SM45C, SCM4 and friction welded joints are 23kgf/$mm^{2}$, 33kgf/$mm^{2}$(220.5 MPa), and 22.5kgf/$mm^{2}$(220.5MPa) respectively, and fracture at friction welded joint takes place at the side of SM45C. 6) The hardness of the friction weld interface is 3 times higher than that of base metal. 7) Fatigue strength of friction welded joint is higher than that of base metal. 8) Notch sensitivity factor of friction welded joint is lower than that of base metal.
The purpose of this study is to suggest objective evaluation model as a plan to utilize as opportunity in establishing judgment standard of mutual inspection criteria and to upgrade inspection ability by reviewing and analyzing level of danger and importance in advance based on inspection results of inspection institutions regarding tower cranes used in construction fields. Tower crane is a mechanical device transporting construction supplies and heavy materials to places over 20~150M high from the ground for the period ranging from a short time of 2~3 months to two years after being installed in construction sites in vicinity of buildings or structures and is an important facility indispensable for construction sites. However, since use period after installation is short and professional technical ability of technicians working on-site about of tower crane is poor, systematic and quantitative safety management is not carried out As a part of researches on procedure of RBI(Risk Based Inspection) possible to apply to Knowledge Based System based on knowledge and experiences of experts as well as to tower cranes for solving these problems, quantitative RPN(Risk Priority Number) was applied to RPN utilizing technique of FMEA(Failure Mode and Effect Analyses). When general RBI 80/20 Rule was applied parts with high level of risks were found out as wire rope, hoist up/down safety device, reduction gear, and etc. However, since there are still many insufficient parts as risk analyses of tower crane were not established, it is necessary for experts with sufficient experiences and knowledge to supplement active RBI techniques and continuous researches on tower cranes by sharing and setting up data base of important information with this study as a starting point.
