  • The thermoplastic polyurethane waste (TPU-S) with good tensile properties, hardness, NBS abrasion resistance, specific gravity and low wet coefficient of kinetic friction was melt-blended with ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM) with high wet slip resistance and low mechanical properties to form EPDM/TPU-S blend films, and their composition-property relationship was investigated to find the optimum composition for shoe outsole material. The properties except the wet slip resistance increased with increasing TPU-S contents in the blend. All the properties except elongation at break, specific gravity and the wet coefficient of kinetic friction in the range of $0{\sim}65\;wt%$ of TPU-S did not attain the values predicted by the simple additive rule. The optimum weight ratio of EPDM/TPU-S for the application to the typical shoe outsole material was found to be 30/70.

  • Fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites not only approach almost near to the strength of thermosetting composite but also has excellent productivity, recycling property, and impact resistance, which are pointed as weaknesses of thermosetting composites. The study for strength calculation of one direction fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites and the study measuring precisely fiber orientation distribution were presented. Need the systematic study for the data base that can predict mechanical properties of composite material and fiber orientation distribution by the fiber content ratio was not constructed. Therefore, this study was investigated what affect the fiber content ratio and fiber orientation distribution have on the strength of composites. Fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites by changing fiber orientation distribution and the fiber content ratio were made. Tensile strength ratio of $0^{\circ}$ direction of fiber-reinforced composites increased being proportional the fiber content and fiber orientation function as change from isotropy(J=0) to anisotropy(J=1). But, tensile strength ratio of $90^{\circ}$ direction by separation of fiber filament decreased when tensile load is imposed fur width direction of reinforcement fiber length direction.

  • This study examines which models are more suitable for representing mechanical property of unbound materials to analyze behavior of asphalt pavement structure. Results from FWD (Falling Weight Deflectometer) test were used to apply to nonlinear elastic model. The new method which can deduct material constants of nonlinear elastic model is suggested from FWD test data rather than laboratory resilient modulus ($M_R$) test. It is confirmed that the material constants are within the common range in subbase. Test output from FWD and MDD (Multi-Depth Deflectometer) was used to verify reliability of the model. From the results of verification, this study shows that a non-linear elastic model agrees to MDD test data more than a linear elastic model does.

  • In this study, the bonding performance of repair materials was evaluated on concrete repair surface to develop concrete repair materials based on UHPC (Ultra High Performance Concrete) which has high mechanical and durability performance. The ten test variables were applied considering the roughness and wet condition of the concrete surface subject to repair, the addition of polymer, and the use PP and PVA fibers in repair materials. The addition of the polymer caused a significant decrease in strength, which was thought to be due to the effect of the additional super plasticizer used to adjust workability. Also, flow was reduced by up to 13.8 % with the use of plastic-based fibers. As a result of evaluating the bond strength of the repair material considering the condition of the surface subject to repair, it was thought that in the case of using UHPC-based repair material, high bonding performance could be secured without any additional surface treatment as long as the surface of the base material was sound. In addition, UHPC-based repair materials showed high bonding performance even when the attachment surface was wet. In the future, research will be conducted on shot-crete application and gradient pouring for the development of UHPC-based repair materials, and continuous improvement in the repair material mixing property will be carried out to ensure economic efficiency and performance as a concrete structural repair material.

  • A photo-crosslinked anion exchange membrane (AEM) based on quaternary-aminated polyacrylates was developed for reverse electrodialysis (RED). Although reverse electrodialysis is a clean and renewable energy generation system, the low power output and high membrane cost are serious obstacles to its commercialization. Cross-linked AEMs without any polymer supporters were fabricated through photo-crosslinking between polymer-typed acrylates with anion conducting groups, in particular, polymer-typed acrylates were synthesized based on engineering plastic with outstanding mechanical and chemical property. The fabricated membranes showed outstanding physical, chemical, and electrochemical properties. The area resistance of the fabricated membranes (CQAPPOA-20, CQAPPOA-35, and CQAPPOA-50) were ~50% lower than that of AMV (2.6 Ω cm2). Moreover, the transport number of CQAPPOA-35 wase comparable to that of AMV, despite the thin thickness (40 ㎛) of the fabricated membranes. The RED stack with the CQAPPOA-35 membrane provided an excellent maximum power density of 2.327 W m-2 at a flow rate of 100 mL min-1, which is 15% higher than that (2.026 W m-2) of the RED stack with the AMV membrane. Considering easy fabrication process by UV photo-crosslinking and outstanding RED stack properties, the CQAPPOA-35 membrane is a promising candidate for REDs.

  • The present study deals with static and dynamic behaviors including forced vibrations of an elastic rectangular nano plate on the two-parameter foundation. Firstly, the rectangular plate is assumed to be subjected to uniformly distributed and eccentrically applied concentrated loads. The governing equations of the problem are derived by considering the dynamic response of the plate, employing a series of the Chebyshev polynomials for the displacement function and applying the Galerkin method. Then, effects of the non-essential boundary conditions of the plate, i.e., the boundary conditions related to the shearing forces, the bending moments and the corner forces, are included in the governing equation of motion to compensate for the non-satisfied boundary conditions and increase the accuracy of the Galerkin method. The approximate numerical solution is accomplished using an iterative process due to the non-linearity of the unilateral property of the two-parameter foundation. The plate under static concentrated load is investigated in detail numerically by considering a wide range of parameters of the plate and the foundation stiffnesses. Numerical treatment of the problem in the time domain is carried out by assuming a stepwise variation of the concentrated load and the linear acceleration procedure is employed in the solution of the system of governing differential equations derived from the equation of motion. Time variations of the contact region and those of the displacements of the plate are presented in the figures for various numbers of the two-parameter of the foundation, as well as the classical and nano parameters of the plate particularly focusing on the non-linearity of the problem due to the plate lift-off from the unilateral foundation. The effects of classical and nonlocal parameters and loading are investigated in detail. Definition of the separation between the plate and the two-parameter foundation is presented and applied to the given problem. The effect of the lift-off on the static and dynamic behavior of the rectangular plate is studied in detail by considering various loading conditions. The numerical study shows that the effect of nonlocal parameters on the behavior of the plate becomes significant, when nonlinearity becomes more profound, due to the lift-off of the plate. It is seen that the size effects are significant in static and dynamic analysis of nano-scaled rectangular plates and need to be included in the mechanical analyses. Furthermore, the corner displacement of the plate is affected more significantly from the lift-off, whereas it is less marked in the time variation of the middle displacement of the plate. Several numerical examples are presented to examine the sensibility of various parameters associated with nonlocal parameters of the plate and foundation. Both stiffening and softening nonlocal parameters behavior of the plate are identified in the numerical solutions which show that increasing the foundation stiffness decreases the extent of the contact region, whereas the stiffness of the shear layer increases the contact region and reduces the foundation settlement considerably.

  • Research was conducted on a PA material-based composite material manufacturing method for application to engine mount brackets. Engine mount brackets must have heat resistance, impact resistance, and damping performance. PA66 resin was used as the base material for the composite material. The glass fiber was used as the reinforcement material. The composite material was manufactured using the injection molding method. The thermal, mechanical, and morphological characteristics were analyzed depending on the content of glass fiber. 3D model was created using the property evaluation database of composite materials(input data). The damping performance of the generated 3D model was extracted as out-put data. The reason for evaluating the characteristics of PA-based composite materials and conducting simulations on the damping performance of 3D models of engine brackets is because product performance can be predicted without manufacturing actual automobile parts and conducting damping performance tests. As a result of the damping simulation, damping performance tended to increase proportionally as the mass fraction of the reinforcement increased. But above a certain level, it no longer increased and slightly decreased. As a result of comparing the actual experimental values a nd the simulated values, the approximate value was within ±5%.

  • As amount of waste matter rapidly increases with fast growth of cities and industry, how to dispose them has arisen as an important problem. Current policy of the government on disposal of waste is repressing generation of waste itself and in case of already generated waste, resource cycle waste management system that recycles waste after proper environmental process is getting established. Therefore recycling of waste and industrial by-products is rising hugely. One of largely wasted matters is waste gypsum, which was categorized as designated waste but changed to general since 1994. Due to disposal cost and lack of impurities removal technology, recycling of it was quite low. However, as impurities removal technology using semi-dried desulfurization process is developed lately, study on recycling of waste gypsum is going on lively. This study examines possibility of utilizing waste gypsum as alternative for concrete cement and analyzed attributes of waste gypsum before and after ball mill process to find out proper alternation ratio, and conducted strength and property tests on concrete subject whose percentage of cement use is substituted with 0, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0 and 12.5% of waste gypsum.

  • This paper addresses the significance of Cu/Polymer Hybrid Bonding technology in the advancement of semiconductor packaging. As the demands of the AI era increase, the semiconductor industry is exploring heterogeneous integration packaging technologies to achieve high I/O counts, low power consumption, efficient heat dissipation, multifunctionality, and miniaturization. The conventional Cu/SiO2 Hybrid Bonding structure faces limitations such as achieving compatibility with CMP processes to attain surface roughness below 1nm and the occurrence of bonding defects due to particles. However, Cu/Polymer Hybrid Bonding technology, utilizing polymers, is gaining attention as a promising alternative to overcome these challenges. This study focuses on the deposition, patterning, and material properties of polymers essential for Cu/Polymer Hybrid Bonding, highlighting the advantages and potential applications of this technology compared to existing methods. Specifically, the use of polymers with low glass transition temperatures (Tg) is discussed for their benefits in low-temperature bonding processes and improved mechanical properties due to their high coefficients of thermal expansion. Furthermore, the study explores surface property modifications of polymers and the enhancement of bonding mechanisms through plasma treatment. This research emphasizes that Cu/Polymer Hybrid Bonding technology can serve as a critical breakthrough in developing high-performance, low-power semiconductor devices within the industry.

  • Statement of problem: Titanium is well known as a proper metal for the dental restorations, because it has an excellent biocompatibility, resistance to corrosion, and mechanical property. However, adhesion between titanium and dental porcelains is related to the diffusion of oxygen to the reaction layers formed on cast-titanium surfaces during porcelain firing and those oxidized layers make the adhesion difficult to be formed. Many studies using mechanical, chemical and physical methods to enhance the titanium-ceramic adhesion have been actively performed. Purpose: This study meant to comparatively analyse the adhesion characteristics depending on different titanium surface coatings after coating the casts and wrought titanium surfaces with Au and TiN. Material and method: In this study, the titanium specimens (CP-Ti, Grade 2, Kobe still Co. Japan) were categorized into cast and wrought titanium. The wrought titanium was cast by using the MgO-based investment(Selevest CB, Selec). The cast and wrought titanium were treated with Au coating($ParaOne^{(R)}$., Gold Ion Sputter, Model PS-1200) and TiN coating(ATEC system, Korea) and the ultra low fusing dental porcelain was fused and fired onto the samples. Biaxial flection test was done on the fired samples and the porcelain was separated. The adhesion characteristics of porcelain and titanium after firing and the specimen surfaces before and after the porcelain fracture test were observed with SEM. The atomic percent of Si on all sample surfaces was comparatively analysed by EDS. In addition, the constituents of specimen surface layers after the porcelain fracture and the formed compound were evaluated by X-ray diffraction diagnosis. Result: The results of this study were obtained as follows : 1. The surface characteristics of cast and wrought titanium after surface treatment(Au, TiN, $Al_2O_3$ sandblasting) were similar and each cast and wrought titanium showed similar bonding characteristics. 2. Before and after the biaxial flection test, the highest atomic weight change of Si component was found in $Al_2O_3$ sandblasted wrought titanium(28.6at.% $\rightarrow$ 8.3at.%). On the other hand, the least change was seen in Au-Pd-In alloy(24.5at.% $\rightarrow$ 9.1at.%). 3. Much amount of Si components was uniformly distributed in Au and TiN coated titanium, but less amount of Si's was unevenly dispersed on Al2O3 sandblasting surfaces. 4. In X-ray diffraction diagnosis after porcelain debonding, we could see $Au_2Ti$ compound and TiN coating layers on Au and TiN coated surfaces and $TiO_2$, typical oxide of titanium, on all titanium surfaces. 5. Debonding of porcelain on cast and wrought titanium surface after the biaxial flection is considered as a result of adhesion deterioration between coating layers and titanium surfaces. We found that there are both adhesive failure and cohesive failure at the same time. Conclusion: These results showed that the titanium-ceramic adhesion could be improved by coating cast and wrought titanium surfaces with Au and TiN when making porcelain fused to metal crowns. In order to use porcelain fused to titanium clinically, it is considered that coating technique to enhance the bonding strength between coating kKlayers and titanium surfaces should be developed first.
