Feasibility of Backfire Control and Engine Performance with Different Valve Overlap Period of Hydrogen-Fueled Engine with External Mixture (흡기관 분사식 수소기관의 밸브오버랩 기간 변화에 따른 기관성능과 역화억제 가능성)

  • 고효율의 실현이 가능한 흡기관 분사식 수소기관의 역화 억제 가능성을 파악하고자 밸브 오버랩 기간의 변화에 따른 제반 기관성능과 역화가 발생되는 역화한계 당량비를 실험적으로 해석하였다. 실험에는 기계식 연속 가변밸브 타이밍 시스템이 부착된 연구용 수소기관을 사용하였다. 밸브 오버랩기간은 배기밸브 개폐시기를 고정하고 흡기밸브 캠의 위상각을 조절하여 변화시켰다. 해석결과 밸브 오버랩 기간의 감소에 따른 제반기관성능은 통상의 기관과 유사하지만 역화한계 당량비가 확장되어 초기 단계이지만 수소기관의 역화발생에 밸브오버랩 기간이 관여하는 것이 보였다. 기관 회전수 1600 rpm, WOT의 실험 조건에서 밸브 오버랩 기간을 $20^{\circ}CA$에서 $0^{\circ}CA$로 감소시킨 경우 역화한계당량비는 약 45% 정도 확장되고 정미 토크는 16% 감소했다.

Vibration Control of an Axially Moving String: Inclusion of the Dynamics of Electro Hydraulic Servo System

  • In this paper, an active vibration control of a translating tensioned string with the use of an electro-hydraulic servo mechanism at the right boundary is investigated. The dynamics of the moving strip is modeled as a string with tension by using Hamilton’s principle for the systems with changing mass. The control objective is to suppress the transverse vibrations of the strip via boundary control. A right boundary control law in the form of current input to the servo valve based upon the Lyapunov’s second method is derived. It is revealed that a time-varying boundary force and a suitable passive damping at the right boundary can successfully suppress the transverse vibrations. The exponential stability of the closed loop system is proved. The effectiveness of the control laws proposed is demonstrated via simulations.

Dynamic Characteristics of a Hydraulic Fishing Winch Simulator (유압식 어로 윈치 시뮬레이터의 동적 거동 특성)

  • To meet the increasing demand from various fishing fields for training of fishing equipment operators, a fishing winch simulator was designed to train maritime students in the correct and safe operation of hydraulic winches under various load conditions related to fishing operations. The aim of this study is to describe the basic dynamic characteristics of the newly developed hydraulic fishing winch simulator and particularly to analyze the mechanical responses produced on the winch operation controls. The winch simulator consists of two winch units, a computer control and data acquisition system, a control consol and other associated mechanisms. When one winch is in hauling mode, the other one will always be in loading mode. The revolution speed of the hauling winch was controlled by a proportional directional control valve, and the braking torque of the loading winch was controlled by a proportional pressure control valve. The simulation experiments indicated that the dynamic characteristics of the hauling winch followed the braking response characteristics of the loading winch. The tests also showed that the warp speed and tension linearly depend on the pressure differential across the motor of the loading winch controlled by operating the proportional pressure control valve during the hauling operation. The experience gained from various training courses showed that the fishing winch simulator was very realistic and it was valuable for training novice winch operators. The results of the winch simulation exercise were recorded and used to evaluate the training on the operation and handling of the winch system. From these test results, we concluded that the tension acting on the warp during hauling operations can successfully be simulated by controlling the pressure differential across the motor with step changes of the control input signal to the proportional pressure control valve of the loading winch.

The Experimental Study on Characteristics of Valve System using Hole Type Valve Lift Sensor (밸브 거동 특성 파악을 위한 hole 센서의 적용에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Recently, controlled auto ignition(CAI) in gasoline engines are drawing more attentions due to its extremely low level of NOx emissions and potentials in lowering the fuel consumption rate. The one of the key techniques for realizing CAI combustion in engines is the control of valve system. Since the valve linkage system with higher complexity, or even earn-less valve systems, such as electro-hydraulic and electro-magnetic system, are adopted in CAI engines, it is not easy to estimate the valve lift profile from earn profiles. Therefore new measurement techniques for valve lift in CAI engines have been tried and tested. In this paper, hole type valve lift sensor was developed and tested to check the applicability in CAI engines. The valve lifts could be obtained from the sensor signal, which depends on the distance from the sensor to magnet attached to valve. Various engine speeds, ranging from 2,000 to 6,000 rpm, and valve lifts, maximum up to 9.7 mm, were tested. It was found that the sensor output for valve lift had accuracy of 98% in comparison with the basic specifications of valve lift through improvements of sensor driving circuit.

  • In the present work, flow characteristics analysis has been performed for steam turbine bypass control valve (single-path type). The numerical analysis is performed by solving three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations. Shear stress transport (SST) model is used as turbulence closure. Symmetry condition is applied at the mid plane of the valve while adiabatic condition is used at the outer wall of the cage. Grid independency test is performed to find the optimal number of grid points. The pressure and temperature distributions on the outer wall of the cage are analyzed. Mass flow rate at maximum plug opening condition is compared with the designed mass flow rate.

  • A swash plate-type piston pump is a device used to discharge hydraulic fluid as the volume generated through the piston moves in the direction of the slope by adjusting the angle of its swash plate. In addition, the valve block internalized in the pump includes a flow path for intake from outside, a flow path for discharge, and a pilot conduit line to control discharge pressure and flux. In this study, a numerical analysis is conducted to improve the cracking of the valve block generated during process testing, and the developed pump is evaluated.

  • Direct drive servovalve(DDV) is a kind of one-stage valve since the rotary motion of DC motor is directly transferred to the linear motion of valve spool through the link. Since the structure of DDV is simple, it is less expensive, more reliable and offers reduced internal leakage and reduced sensitivity to fluid contamination. However, the flow force effect on the spool motion is significant such that it induces large steady-state error in a step response. If the proportional control gain is increased to reduce the steady-state error, the system becomes unstable. In order to satisfy the system design requirements, the classical controller is designed using the analytical Bode method.

  • In housing units constructed recently in Korea, the length of ondol coil is different in each room, so the flow rate of hot water is adjusted by setting valve opening. If the flow rate is not appropriate for heating load, the room temperature seriously deviates from the set temperature range for comfort. In particular, too small valve opening can induce a noise by cavitation. In order to adjust the valve opening, two methods by zone area and a new method by return temperature rise were modelled and simulated using TRNSYS and EES. As a result, heating energy consumption during one week was the same on three methods, but the room temperature of the new method minimally deviated from the range of set temperature with a low possibility of noise.

  • The closed circuit pump is applied to control rotating speed and direction of hydraulic motor in hydrostatic transmission. To development of this pump, first of all the servo control regulator has to be designed. Mechanical-hydraulic type servo control mechanism is excellent to be compared with electronic-hydraulic type servo control valve to reliability and economy. In this paper to development positive and negative variable displacement type servo regulator, the hydro-mechanical servo control mechanism is calculated and designed with force balance of pilot piston and position feedback of servo piston.
