  • A study on predicting the joint strength of mechanically fastened woven glass/epoxy composite has been performed. An experimental and numerical study were carried out to determine the characteristic length and joint strength of composite joint. The characteristic lengths for tension and compression were determined from the tensile and compressive test with a hole respectively. The characteristic lengths were evaluated by applying the point stress failure criterion to a specimen containing a hole at the center subjected to tensile loading and a specimen containing a half circular notch at the center subjected to compressive load. The joint strength was evaluated by the Tsai-Wu and Yamada-Sun failure criterion on the characteristic curve. The predicted results of the joint strength were compared with experimental results.

  • Graphene oxide, which is exfoliated by oxidant from graphite, is the material for solving the problem of mass production and positioning. We made graphene oxide based devices by dielectrophoresis, studied and controlled factors which can affect the characteristic of graphene oxide channel. Graphene oxide channel assembled by dielectrophoresis can be constructed differently by various frequency options. We confirmed the change of gate characteristics and I-V characteristics in the range from 80K to 300K temperature.

  • This paper describes a method developed for the simulation of ring pack lubrication characteristic in an internal combustion engine. In general, the quantity of oil supply for piston ring lubrication may be insufficient in filling the entire volume formed at the interference between the piston ring and the cylinder liner. Thus the oil starvation condition should be considered in analyzing piston ring lubrication. In order to reasonably estimate the amount of oil left over on the cylinder liner, the flow rate at the posterior portion of the interface should be calculated with an adequate boundary condition that confirms flow continuity condition. In this analysis, oil starvation and open-end boundary conditions are considered at the inlet and outlet of the piston rings. The lubrication characteristic of each piston ring is obtained by an iterative method with sequential steps. It is revealed that piston rings are operated under oil starvation in most operating cycles and the result under these conditions are quite different from that with the fully-flooded assumption.

  • The characteristics of wave propagation along a catenary in rail electrification system depend on the boundary impedance, characteristic impedance of catenary, and the contact force of pantograph moving along the catenary. In this study, the wave propagation along catenary is studied with arbitrary boundary conditions and characteristic impedance of catenary. The reflection and transmission of waves through the boundaries of catenary and the propagation of waves along the catenary are found to be dependent on the wave length.

  • This study deals with the characteristic of quenching refrigerant for heat treatment deformation control of SM45C steel. Heat-treatment deformation must be controlled for the progress of production parts for landing gear. Most of deformation is occurred on inconsistent cooling. The inconsistent cooling is caused by a property of quenching refrigerant. When a heated metal is deposited in the quenching refrigerant, the cooling speed is so slow in early period of cooling because of a steam-curtain. After additional cooling, the steam-curtain is destroyed. In this progress, the cooling speed is very fast. The object of this study is to control the deformation of heat-treatment for landing gear by improving the conditions of quenching. The cooling curves and cooling rates of water, oil and polymer solution are obtained and illustrated. From the characteristics of the quenching refrigerant, the effects of heat-treatments on thermal deformation and fatigue strength are also investigated.

  • This paper proposes a method to determine vehicle driving state using the driving characteristics index. This index is a quantitative value to classify the driving state of a vehicle with its velocity and heading angle in that instant. It can classify driving state into straight driving, lane changing driving and curve driving in real time. In addition, the number of positional information is movably set up by designed region of interest. The proposed index is expressed on the stable driving states. Each driving state has characteristic tendency, and is compared with index distributional areas. The proposed method is verified by the actual driving experiment on the KATECH proving ground.

  • As the obesity patients increase recently, breath disease such an OSA(obstructive sleep apnea) is also increasing. When the breath disease occurs, the risk comes to be high. Dependence degree the PAP(positive airway pressure) is also coming to be high. The mechanical simulator is composed cylinder, valve, ball screw and the motor that they correspond to the lung and airway, the diaphragm of the human. In order to confirm the characteristic of the motor and the valve, it accomplished an test. The simulator traces breath pattern against the normal breath and the OSA.

  • This paper aims at presenting robustness analysis under the uncertainties of the time delay and plant parameters in symmetrically coupled dynamic systems connected through network having time delay. The delay-involved closed loop characteristic function is mathematically formulated, incorporated with active synchronization control. And the robust stability of the corresponding system is analyzed by investigating the formation of characteristic equation containing second- order terms of uncertainty variables representing delay and plant dynamics mismatches. For the two individual types of uncertainties, we elucidate details of how to compute the bounds and what they imply physically. To support the validity of the mathematical claims, numerical examples and simulations are presented.

  • The motion of birds and insects have been studied and applied to MAV(Micro Air Vehicle) and AUV(Autonomous Underwater Vehicle). Most of AUV research is focused on shape and motion of single hydrofoil. However, double hydrofoil system is mostly used in real physics. This system shows completely different hydrodynamic characteristic to single hydrofoil because of wake interaction. The goal of this study is define the trajectory of wake interaction in double hydrofoil system. Moreover, trust and efficiency of various combined motion will be demonstrated. Symmetry airfoil is used for analysis an hydrodynamic characteristic. Forward wing's plunging and pitching motion is fixed, hide wing's Heaving ratio, Pitch phase shift from forward plunging and Heaving shift is changed. This study provide necessary basic data of motion optimization for double hydrofoil system.

  • This paper will investigate the friction characteristics of a 100m Hexagonal Array, Micro-scale Dimple Pattern, on bearing steel. These characteristics are researched by utilizing a pin-on-disk wear test machine, under various test conditions. The reduction of friction is a necessary requirement for the improved efficiency of this machine. As the speed increases, there is a decrease in the effect of the dimple of friction characteristic, with substantially little change to density. Conversely, as the load increases, the dimple pattern grows larger, resulting in a difference in the texture of these two components. At a dimple density of 10% the friction characteristic is easily demonstrated, with a consistent change in both speed and load.
