  • The INS provides high rate position, velocity and attitude data with good short-term stability while the GPS provides position and velocity data with long-term stability. By integrating the INS with GPS, a navigation system can be achieved to provide highly accurate navigation performance. For the best performance, time synchronization of GPS and INS data is very important in GPS/INS integrated system.   • The terrestrial laser scanner measures the signal delay time of electronic circuit in EDM(Electronic Distance Measurement) Module for distance measurement. To measure signal delay time precisely, transmitting laser beam of terrestrial laser scanner is divided optically. Therefore, 10% of the laser beam power is entered into the electronic circuit and the others go out through lens. But, measure of delay time is severe in the laser scanner system that the laser beam power is changed dynamically by reflectance of a object, because characters like gain of electronic circuit involving APD(Avalanche Photo Diode) and so on are changed by incident laser beam. Therefore, we adapt ND(Neutral Density) filter that has grid pattern to the laser scanner system to keep constant the incident laser beam power. In this paper, we propose the simulation program for efficient design of ND filter pattern. Finally, to affirm simulation program, we conduct the experimental test of simulated ND filter that has linearly transmittance change, and we consider the experiment result.

  • Unburned hydrocarbon is a key contributor to both the fuel economy and emissions of automotive engine. Cyclic variation of HC emission is of importance, especially during throttle transients. The real time measurement of hydrocarbon is particularly important to obtain a better understanding of the mechanisms for combustion and emissions, especially during cold start and throttle transient condition. This paper reports the cycle resolved measurement technique of unburned hydrocarbons to quantify rapid changes of in-cylinder concentration in the vicinity of spark plug by using the Fast Response Flame Ionization Detector(FRFID). While this instrument actually measures fuel concentration, its results can be indicative of the AFR behaviour. In order to understand the rapid change of hydrocarbons with cylinder pressure, it is necessary to study the response time delay of the system, including the time associated with gas transportation to FID. And signal from FRFID is correlated with cylinder pressure data to relate changes in mixture preparation to the classic analysis, such as indicated mean effective(IMEF) and ignition delay, etc.

  • In this paper, the error caused by the measurement delay in INS/GPS integrated systems with Kalman filtering is defined and analyzed through the analytical method and the simulation. It is proved that the error of measurement delay causes not only the position error but also the estimate error of the x-axis accelerometer bias when a vehicle turns. And the estimation method of the delay time and the compensation method using an extrapolation method are presented. The performance of the compensation method is shown by the analytic method and the simulation.

  • In order to improve target tracking performance of the conventional electro-optical tracking system (EOTS) in the high speed and high maneuvering vehicle, an EOTS navigation algorithm is proposed, in which an inertial measurement unit(IMU) is included and navigation results of the vehicle are used. The proposed algorithm integrates vehicle's navigation results and the IMU and the time-delay and the scale factor errors are augmented into the integrated Kalman filter. In order to evaluate the proposed navigation algorithm, a land vehicle navigation experiments were performed a navigation grade navigation system, TALIN4000 and a tactical grade IMU, LN-200 and a equipment for roll motion were loaded on the land vehicle. The performance evaluation results show that the proposed algorithm effecting works in high maneuvering environment and for the time-delay.

  • This report proposes a novel method of identification of continuous time-delay systems from sampled input-output data. By the aid of a digital pre-filter, an approximated discrete-time estimation model is first derived, in which the system parameters remain in their original form and the time delay need not be an integral multiple of th sampling period. Then an identification method combining the common linear least squares(LS) method or the instrumental variable(IV) method with the genetic algorithm(GA) is proposed. That is, the time-delay is selected by the GA, and the system parameters are estimated by the LS or IV method. Furthermore, the proposed method is extended to the case of multi-input multi-output systems where the time-delays in the individual input channels may differ each other. Simulation resutls show that our method yields consistent estimates even in the presence of high measurement noises.

Ignition Delay Times in $C_2H_2-O_2$-Ar Mixture behind a Reflected Shock Wave

  • Detonation characteristics of acetylene were studied behind reflected shock waves in the temperature range 800-1350 K by monitoring OH emission and pressure profiles. For a comprehensive measurement of ignition delay time, the mixture composition was varied in a wide range of Ar mole % was varied from 0.625 to 2.5 in stoichiometric ratio of C2H2-O2-Ar. A computer simulation study was also performed to elucidate the important elementary steps determining ignition behavior. The 33-reaction mechanism provides a good agreement in delay time between the observed and the calculated ones.

  • The basic element of the EMS suspension is the electromagnet system, which suspends the vehicle without contact by attracting forces to the rails at the guideway. The suspension of a vehicle by attractive magnetic forces is inherently unstable and consequently it is continuously adjusted by the strength of the suspending electromagnet from rail irregularity and bending of the guideway. In order to improve reliable tracking, it needs to get feedback signals without measurement delay time. In this paper the concept of feedback control system with Kalman Filter in EMS is proposed. The input signals in the feedback control system are an air-gap and an acceleration signal. The air-gap signal with noise from the gap sensor is transformed to the filtered air-gap signal y without measurement delay time by using Kalman Filter. The filtered air-gap signal is transformed to a relative velocity and a relative acceleration signal. Then it multiplies these values by gain matrix in order to get the actuator's reference voltage value. The simulation results show that the dynamic responses of the suspension system can be improved by reducing the influence of measurement delay time of air-gap signals.

The length of the time delays is often hard to predict and modeled as being random. This paper proposes a combined controller used to compensate network time delay by estimating the delay with the interacting multiple model (IMM). The network delay is modeled as a Markov chain and 3 modes representing heavy, medium, and low network loads are used in the IMM. The proposed method is applied to an optimal control system with double integrators and the results are compared with the existing control methods.
