We investigated the elementary students' epistemological views on the nature of scientific measurement. The Views About Scientific Measurement (Ibrahim, 2005) was administered to 117 sixth graders. The analyses of the results indicated that there was an inconsistency in their epistemological views depending on the contexts of the measurement. They also had some difficulties in understanding a distribution of the data, which is needed to understand the necessity of repeating measurements, choosing a best representative value, and comparing data sets. They were found to have some naive views on scientific measurement which influenced negatively for fostering modern epistemological views on the nature of scientific measurement. The results suggest that the nature of scientific measurement should be emphasized explicitly in the national curriculum, and an effective method which improves elementary students' epistemological views on the nature of scientific measurement also be developed.

A method is described for ideally reconstructing the profile from a surface profiling measurement containing a reasonable amount of null measurement data. The proposed method can conjecture lost information and rectify irregular data that result due to bad measuring environments, signal transmission noise, or instrument-induced errors, The method adopts the concept of computer graphics and consists of several processing steps. First, a search for valid data in the neighborhood of the null data is performed. The valid data are then grouped and their contours are extracted. By analyzing these contours, a bounding box can be obtained and the general distribution of the entire area encompassing the valid and null data is determined Finally, an ideal surface model is overlaid onto the measurement results based on the bounding box, generating a complete reconstruction of the calculations, A surface-profiling task on a liquid crystal display photo spacer is used to verify the proposed method. The results are compared to those obtained through the use of a scanning electron microscope to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed method.
To ensure the measuring accuracy of the wall temperature, the outer wall temperature measurement values by using three kinds of thermocouple welding methods were analyzed and evaluated in the paper, including single-point flush-mounted in the wall groove method, single-point insert-mounted in the wall groove, and outer surface direct welding method, based on the application of a tube-in-tube condensing heat exchanger. And the impacts of silver, tin, and thermal resistance adhesive as filling materials on wall temperature measurement were also investigated, and the results were compared to that obtained without filling materials. The results showed that the wall temperatures measured by the three welding methods were lower than the theoretically calculated value. And the wall temperature measured by the outer surface direct welding method was lowest under the same experimental conditions. The wall temperatures measured by single-point flush-mounted and insert-mounted in the wall groove methods were also affected by different welding filling materials. It was found that the greater the thermal resistance of filling materials, the smaller the heat loss. By analyzing the reasons for the low measured value of wall temperature, a new wall temperature measurement method was developed to improve the accuracy of the current measurement method. Meanwhile, the outer wall temperature measurement experiments of vertical and horizontal heat transfer tubes were carried out to validate and calibrate the improved outer wall temperature measurement method. The results showed that the average outer wall temperature deviation measured by the improved wall temperature measurement method ranged from - 0.82% to +2.29% for vertical tubes and - 4.75% to - 1.44% for horizontal tubes, and the improved measurement method had good measurement accuracy.
This study examined the effects of estimation activities on children's operation and measurement abilities. Subjects were 60 five-year-old children. This experiment used the untreated control group design with pretest and posttest. Instruments used to collect data were the Number and Operation and Measurement tests part of the Test of Mathematics Ability for Young Children (TMAYC) developed by Hong, Lee and Chung (2006). ANCOVA was employed for statistical analysis. Results of the posttest showed that children in the experimental group scored significantly higher on children's operation and measurement abilities than the control group. Results imply that an estimation program can be an effective teaching model for improving children's operation and measurement abilities.
In this paper, we propose a voting method for capacitance measurement. Nowadays the measurement system is changing from analog system to digital system. However, capacitance measurement system has a data error because of the noise. The data of general digital measurement system include an internal and external measurement noises that highly affect to the results. Therefore, this paper proposes data compensation method using voting method. Finally, simulation results are used to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

All measurements are subject to uncertainty and a measurement result is complete only when it is accompanied by a statement of the associated uncertainty. By international agreement, this uncertainty has a probabilistic basis and reflects incomplete knowledge of the quantity value. The "Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement", commonly known as the GUM, is the definitive document on this subject. The requirements for estimation of measurement uncertainty apply to all results provided by calibration laboratories and results produced by testing laboratories under the optional circumstances. In this paper, a procedure for estimation of measurement uncertainty from vibration testing is proposed on KS F 2868:2003 as an example. Both Type A and Type B evaluation of uncertainty are considered to calculate the combined standard uncertainty and expanded uncertainty.

Since 1980, Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) have performed 8 round robin tests in gauge block measurement in order to evaluate the measurement capability and the state of environment control of National Calibration and Test Institutions. Two sets of five gauge blocks (nominal size : 1, 3, 10, 25, 100 mm) having different thermal expansion coefficients for each set were circulated for the measurement, and the measurement results were collected and analyzed to evaluate the traceability to the standard of KRISS. The method and results of the test are presented.

In this paper, usefulness of marine radar for water waves measurement in coastal waters is presented. We installed a marine radar to acquire radar images of water wave around light beacon at Jujeon in Ulsan. Also, a series of analysis procedures for obtaining the wave information from the acquired image is described with a schematic diagram. We compared analysis results of radar images with measurement values using wave height gauge at light beacon. In order to improve accuracy of analysis results, detailed water depth information is essential. In conclusion, in case of the use of radar for water waves measurement, it is shown that it is very necessary to increase the accuracy of measurement by consideration of the water depth in the dispersion relation of water waves.
Purpose: Considering various measurements for healthcare service quality, the purpose of this study is to examine measurement items for healthcare service quality (HCSQ) based on previous study and service quality evaluation institutions in the international community. Methods: The proposed research model was tested using measurement analysis, based on data collected from 387 respondents in the selected hospital with more than 500 beds in South Korea. Results: The results of the study shed insights about the relative importance of quality items as degree of improvements of care services tangible, safety, efficiency, and empathy. Also, the study provides new measurement model for healthcare service quality. Conclusion: Healthcare organization thrives to find the key factors for improving quality of care and service that meet customers' needs and expectations.
The objective of this study is the developement health & disaster monitoring measurement using ubiquitous active communication digital datalogger system for monitoring measurement of railway construction sites. For the replacement of current passive data communication, ubiquitous active communication digital datalogger system is studied for the first time with in a country. Therefore data communication method and analyzing program of automatic measurement data is developed for the global positioning automatic digital datalogger system. The results of this study will be using both real time automatic monitoring measurement and health & disaster monitoring measurement of railway structures.
