  • Road traffic noise causes considerable disturbance and annoyance in exposed inhabitants. Particularly, arterial road noise is a significant environmental problem in many urban areas in which higher traffic volume and higher car speed occur. Arterial road noise became the target of this investigation in Seoul, South Korea. Noise levels were measured at four points that were based on distance from roadside at the same measurement site and under the conditions as reported by the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) in 1999. The average noise levels ($L_{eq,1h}$) of the arterial road was 80.3 dBA at 5 m, 77.4 dBA at 10 m, 73.7 dBA at 20 m, 70.9 dBA at 30 m. A comparison between 1999 and 2008's measurement values has shown that in 2008 noise level is up by about 1.5 dBA, traffic volume has increased by about 15.7%, while car speed has decrease by about 8%. The relationship between 2008' measured values and predicted values using the NIER Equation is low under 10 m from the roadside. The influence range of arterial noise is calculated at 26 m for road noise limits in daytime. In relation to the comparison between traffic volume and noise level, the equivalence in traffic volume (Light car+10xHeavy car) is higher than other variables.

  • The present study has been performed to evaluate the reliability of the fire field model (FDS version 5.2) with yield rate concept of combustion products. The CO and smoke density predicted by FDS model was directly compared with measurement in a reduced scale ISO-9705 room. The GER (global equivalence ratio) concept was used to characterize the CO and smoke density with ventilation condition in the fire compartment. The FDS model tends to under-predict CO concentration and smoke density than those of measurement for the under-ventilated conditions. Also, the discrepancy between predicted and measured result increases as GER increases. In order to improve the reliability of the fire model for performance evaluation of fire safety, the fire model is necessary to be validated in various fire cases as well as develop detailed physical model.

  • Purpose: This study was to determine the effect of Individualized education-counseling program on the performance of Health behavior and Cardiovascular risk after discharge inpatients with percutaneous coronary intervention. Methods: This study is a quasi-experimental study of the non-equivalence control group and the subjects of this study were patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention for coronary artery disease and had no complications due to severe arrhythmia or heart failure. The purpose of the study was explained to the subjects who met the selection conditions, and written consent was obtained, and 50 randomized experimental groups and 50 control groups were selected and assigned. Results: Compared to the control group, health behaviors were significantly higher after 1 week (F=33.63, p<.001) and 12 weeks (F=23.63, p<.001). The cardiovascular risk score based on Framingham risk score differed significantly depending on the measurement period (F=26.18, p<.001), there was no significant difference in the interaction between the two groups and the measurement period (F=0.72, p=.469). Conclusion: It was confirmed that the Individualized education counseling program provided to patients with Percutaneous coronary intervention was effective in increasing the subject's health behavior, but not in lowering the cardiovascular risk.

  • In order to enhance combustion efficiency and reduce atmosphere pollutants, it is essential to measure carbon monoxide (CO) concentration precisely in combustion exhaust. CO is the important gas species regarding pollutant emission and incomplete combustion because it can trade off with NOx and increase rapidly when incomplete combustion occurs. In the case of a steel annealing system, CO is generated intentionally to maintain the deoxidation atmosphere. However, it is difficult to measure the CO concentration in a combustion environment in real-time, because of unsteady combustion reactions and harsh environment. Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS), which is an optical measurement method, is highly attractive for measuring the concentration of certain gas species, temperature, velocity, and pressure in a combustion environment. TDLAS has several advantages such as sensitive, non-invasive, and fast response, and in-situ measurement capability. In this study, a combustion system is designed to control the equivalence ratio. Also, the combustion exhaust gases are produced in a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)/air flame. Measurement of CO concentration according to the change of equivalence ratio is confirmed through TDLAS method and compared with the simulation based on Voigt function. In order to measure the CO concentration without interference from other combustion products, a near-infrared laser at 4300.6 cm-1 was selected.

  • The aim of this paper was to develop a scale for measuring gender identity among sports participants (114 male, 193 female). Gender similarities and latent mean analysis was used to validate the gender identity measurement method. Data processing was carried out by way of frequency analysis, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, reliability, correlation, normal distribution of questions, and latent mean analysis using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. The results of this study were as follows: First, the equivalence had revealed the configurable, metric, and scalar invariance of the scale that can be used in multi-groups in the same way. Second, women had a more open inclination than men when it came to participating in sports activities (p<.001). Third, women participating in sports activities tended to be more conservative than men (p<.001). Fourth, women who participated in sports activities showed a higher subjective tendency than men (p<.001). Fifth, there was no statistical difference in the outward tendency when participating in sports activities (p<.05). The results of this study suggest that gender identity among sports participants is not influenced by the changing times and the advancement of women in society.

  • Recognizing the importance of affective factors in mathematical learning and achievement, international comparative assessment as PISA and TIMSS survey affective achievement as well as scholastic achievement. On the affective survey those items of PISA are categorized by 5 factors ; interest of mathematics, instrumental motivation, Mathematics self-efficacy, mathematics anxiety, mathematics self-concept) and those of TIMSS are categorized by 3 factors; Positive affect toward mathematics (PATM), Students' Self-Confidence in Learning Mathematics(SCM), and Students' Valuing Mathematics(SVM). In this study we carried out Exploratory Factor Analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Measurement Equivalence/Invariance to find whether the constructs are well defined and divided. As a result of our analysis, some factors were overlapped in PISA whereas the items of TIMSS were categorized as intended in TIMSS study. Based on these results, it is confirmed that the questionnaire items need to be developed to understand our students affective characteristics. Also, how questionnaire of large-scaled international assessment can give implication to the development of the questionnaire of Korean specific.

  • I investigated Korean college students' conception about the volume change of solution when they detected the equivalence point during acid/base titration experiment using method of volume measurement. According to this study, most college students had a misconception that the volume increment was due to the formation of water by neutralization during acid/base titration. However, this is not enough to explain the volume change, neglecting contribution of a salt in solution. I calculated the partial molar volume of NaCl formed to explain the volume increment of solution during HCl/NaOH neutralization. Comparing the result of experiment with the calculation of partial molar volume, I elucidated that the main effect of volume increment was due to the partial molar volume of NaCl formed during HCl/NaOH neutralization. Here I propose to introduce college students to the concept of partial molar volume of the salt formed to reduce misconception about the volume change of solution during acid/base neutralization.

  • In this paper, we have represented the efficient way how to enumerate the optimal number-right scores to adjust the item difficulty and to improve item discrimination. To estimate the optimal number-right scores in two equivalent math-tests by linear score equating a measurement error model was applied to the true scores observed from a pair of equivalent math-tests assumed to measure same trait. The model specification for true scores which is represented by the bivariate model is a simple regression model to inference the optimal number-right scores and we assume again that the two simple regression lines of raw scores and true scores are independent each other in their error models. We enumerated the difference between mean value of $\chi$* and ${\mu}$$\_$$\chi$/ and the difference between the mean value of y*and a+b${\mu}$$\_$$\chi$/ by making an inference the estimates from 2 error variable regression model. Furthermore, so as to distinguish from the original score points, the estimated number-right scores y’$\^$*/ as the estimated regression values of true scores with the same coordinate were moved to center points that were composed of such difference values with result of such parallel score moving procedure as above mentioned. We got the asymptotically normal distribution in Figure 5 that was represented as the optimal distribution of the optimal number-right scores so that we could decide the optimal proportion of number-right score in each item. Also by assumption that equivalence of two tests is closely connected to unidimensionality of a student’s ability. we introduce new definition of trait score to evaluate such ability in each item. In this study there are much limitations in getting the real true scores and in analyzing data of the bivariate error model. However, even with these limitations we believe that this study indicates that the estimation of optimal number right scores by using this enumeration procedure could be easily achieved.

  • Background: The assessment tool developed in other countries should be translated into Korean language using rigorous methodological approaches in order to be used in Korea. Because these procedures are insufficient for establishing the cross-cultural and linguistic equivalence, the need for statistical methods is raised. The Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale was translated into Korean and the content validity was verified through the back translation method, but the reliability and validity have not yet been proven by statistical methods. Objects: The purpose of this study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale (KFAB) by statistical methods in elderly people. Methods: A total of 97 elderly adults (39 males and 58 females) participated in this study. Internal consistency of the KFAB was measured using Cronbach's alpha and an intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to assess test-retest reliability between the two measurement sessions. Concurrent validity was measured by comparing the KFAB responses with the Korean version of the Berg Balance Scale (KBBS) using the Spearman correlation coefficient. Construct validity of the KFAB was measured using the exploratory factor analysis to evaluate the unidimensionality of the questionnaire. The significance level was set at ${\alpha}=.05$. Results: The internal consistency of the KFAB was found be adequate with Cronbach's alpha (.96), and test-retest reliability was excellent as evidenced by the high ICC (r=.996). Concurrent validity showed high correlation between the KFAB and KBBS (r=.89, p<.001). Construct validity was evaluated using exploratory factor analysis. The result from Bartlett test of sphericity was statistically significant (p<.001), and the value of Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin measure of sampling adequacy was .93. Exploratory factor analysis revealed the existence of only one dominant factor that explained 76.43% of the variance. Conclusion: The KFAB is a reliable, valid and appropriate tool for measuring the balance functions in elderly people.

  • Premixed flame is better than diffusion flame to accomplish a high loading combustion. Since the turbulent characteristics of unburned mixture has a great influence on the flame structure, it is general that many researchers realize a high loading combustion with strengthening turbulent intensity of unburned mixture. Because turbulent premixed flame reacts efficiently on the condition of distributed reaction region, we made high turbulent premixed flame in the doubled impingement field. We investigated turbulent characteristics of unburned mixture with increasing shear force and visualized flames with direct and Schlieren photographs. And the combustion characteristics of flame was elucidated by instantaneous temperature measurement with a thermocouple, by ion currents with a micro electrostatic probe, by radical luminescence intensity and local equivalence ratio. Extremely strong turbulent of small scale is generated by impingement of mixture, and turbulent intensity of unburned mixture increased with the mean velocity. As a result of direct photographs, visible region of flame became longer due to increasing central direction flux. But as strengthed turbulent intensity, visible region of flame turned to shorter and reaction occurred efficiently. As strengthened turbulent intensity of mixture with increasing flux of central direction, maximum fluctuating temperature region moved to radial direction and fluctuation of temperature became lower. The reason is influx of central direction which caused flame zone to move toward radial direction, to maintain flame zone stable and to make flame scale smaller.
