A Study for Robustness of Objective Function and Constraints in Robust Design Optimization

  • Since randomness and uncertainties of design parameters are inherent, the robust design has gained an ever increasing importance in mechanical engineering. The robustness is assessed by the measure of performance variability around mean value, which is called as standard deviation. Hence, constraints in robust optimization problem can be approached as probability constraints in reliability based optimization. Then, the FOSM (first order second moment) method or the AFOSM (advanced first order second moment) method can be used to calculate the mean values and the standard deviations of functions describing constraints and object. Among two methods, AFOSM method has some advantage over FOSM method in evaluation of probability. Nevertheless, it is difficult to obtain the mean value and the standard deviation of objective function using AFOSM method, because it requires that the mean value of function is always positive. This paper presented a special technique to overcome this weakness of AFOSM method. The mean value and the standard deviation of objective function by the proposed method are reliable as shown in examples compared with results by FOSM method.

신뢰성 기반 강건 최적화를 이용한 자동채염기의 확률론적 구조설계 (Probabilistic Structure Design of Automatic Salt Collector Using Reliability Based Robust Optimization)

  • This paper deals with identification of probabilistic design using reliability based robust optimization in structure design of automatic salt collector. The thickness sizing variables of main structure member in the automatic salt collector were considered the random design variables including the uncertainty of corrosion that would be an inevitable hazardousness in the saltern work environment. The probabilistic constraint functions were selected from the strength performances of the automatic salt collector. The reliability based robust optimum design problem was formulated such that the random design variables were determined by minimizing the weight of the automatic salt collector subject to the probabilistic strength performance constraints evaluating from reliability analysis. Mean value reliability method and adaptive importance sampling method were applied to the reliability evaluation in the reliability based robust optimization. The three sigma level quality was considered robustness in side constraints. The probabilistic optimum design results according to the reliability analysis methods were compared to deterministic optimum design results. The reliability based robust optimization using the mean value reliability method showed the most rational results for the probabilistic optimum structure design of the automatic salt collector.

로그형 평균값함수를 고려한 소프트웨어 신뢰성모형에 대한 비교연구 (A Comparative Study of Software Reliability Model Considering Log Type Mean Value Function)

  • Software reliability in the software development process is an important issue. Software process improvement helps in finishing with reliable software product. Infinite failure NHPP software reliability models presented in the literature exhibit either constant, monotonic increasing or monotonic decreasing failure occurrence rates per fault. In this paper, proposes the reliability model with log type mean value function (Musa-Okumoto and log power model), which made out efficiency application for software reliability. Algorithm to estimate the parameters used to maximum likelihood estimator and bisection method, model selection based on mean square error (MSE) and coefficient of determination($R^2$), for the sake of efficient model, was employed. Analysis of failure using real data set for the sake of proposing log type mean value function was employed. This analysis of failure data compared with log type mean value function. In order to insurance for the reliability of data, Laplace trend test was employed. In this study, the log type model is also efficient in terms of reliability because it (the coefficient of determination is 70% or more) in the field of the conventional model can be used as an alternative could be confirmed. From this paper, software developers have to consider the growth model by prior knowledge of the software to identify failure modes which can be able to help.

신뢰도 분석기법을 이용한 소규모 저수지의 위험도 분석 (A Study on the Risk Assessment of Small Reservoirs using Reliability Analysis Methods)

  • 본 연구는 소규모 저수지의 위험도와 초기저수지 수위와의 관계를 설정하기 위하여 신뢰도 분석기법을 적용하였다. 저수지의 안전성을 평가하기 위해서는 변수들의 불확실성을 파악하여야 하며 기능 수행함수를 설정하여야 한다. 저수지의 위험도를 산정하는 절차는 우선 월류에 대한 기능수행함수의 위험도 기준을 설정한 후 변수들의 불확실성을 파악하고 적정한 신뢰도 분석기법에 의하여 위험도를 산정하게 된다. 적용된 신뢰도 분석기법은 MCS(Monte Carly simulation) 법과 MVFOSM (mean value first order second momet) 법이며 이를 이용하여 저수지의 위험도를 산정하였다. 이에 따라 설계 재현기간에 따른 위험도-초기 저수지 수위의 관계를 설정하였으며 이는 저수지의 운용에 유용하게 사용될 것으로 생각된다.

Reliability-based design optimization using reliability mapping functions

  • Reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) is a powerful tool for design optimization when considering probabilistic characteristics of design variables. However, it is often computationally intensive because of the coupling of reliability analysis and cost minimization. In this study, the concept of reliability mapping function is defined based on the relationship between the reliability index obtained by using the mean value first order reliability method and the failure probability obtained by using an improved response surface method. Double-loop involved in the classical RBDO can be converted into single-loop by using the reliability mapping function. Since the computational effort of the mean value first order reliability method is minimal, RBDO by using reliability mapping functions should be highly efficient. Engineering examples are given to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method. Numerical results indicated that the proposed method has the similar accuracy as Monte Carlo simulation, and it can obviously reduce the computational effort.

  • Salt and pepper is a type of impulse noise. It may appear due to an error in the image transmission process and image storage memory. This noise changes the pixel value at any position in the image to 0 (in case of pepper noise) or 255 (in case of salt noise). In this paper, we present an algorithm for SAP noise reduction. The proposed method consists of three steps. In the first step, the location of the SAP noise is detected, and in the second step, the pixel value of the detected location is restored using a weighted average of the surrounding pixel values. In the last step, a reliability matrix around the reconstructed pixels is constructed, and additional correction is performed with a weighted average using this. As a result of the experiment, the proposed method appears to have similar or higher objective and subjective image quality than previous methods for almost all SAP noise ratios.

  • SLSV(single loop single vector)방법은 신뢰성기반 최적설계(reliability-based design optimization, RBDO)에서 중첩된 반복과정을 제거함으로써 최적설계의 과도한 계산비용 문제에 대한 해결책을 제시하고 있지만, 종종 수렴하지 못하거나 잘못된 해가 얻어지는 등의 불안정성, 부정확성 문제를 가지고 있어 그 활용이 제한적이다. 본 논문에서는 수정된 HMV(hybrid mean value)방법, Inactive Design, Active MPP(most probable point) Design의 적용을 통해 SLSV방법에 있어서 안정성과 효율성을 효과적으로 개선시킬 수 있는 수정된 SLSV방법을 제안하였고 또한 다양한 예제를 통해 수정된 SLSV방법의 유용성을 검증하였다.

Three-Parameter Gamma Distribution and Its Significance in Structural Reliability

  • Information on the distribution of the basic random variables is essential for the accurate evaluation of structural reliability. The usual method for determining the distribution is to fit a candidate distribution to the histogram of available statistical data of the variable and perform appropriate goodness-of-fit tests. Generally, such candidate distributions would have two parameters that may be evaluated from the mean value and standard deviation of the statistical data. In the present paper, a-parameter Gamma distribution, whose parameters can be directly defined in terms of the mean value, standard deviation and skewness of available data, is suggested. The flexibility and advantages of the distribution in fitting statistical data and its significance in structural reliability evaluation are identified and discussed. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate these advantages.

소프트웨어 신뢰성 모델링 기반 소프트웨어 품질 측정 (The software quality measurement based on software reliability model)

  • 본 연구는 소프트웨어 신뢰성을 측정하기 위해 소프트웨어 신뢰도 측정 모형에 따라 소프트웨어 신뢰도를 측정하는 방법을 제시하려 한다. 본 연구에서 제시한 모형의 형태는 비동질적 포아송 과장의 분포를 이용하였으며, 제시된 모형의 소프트웨어 신뢰도를 측정하는 방안을 제시하였다. 제시된 모형에 따라서 적합한 소프트웨어 신뢰도 성장 모형을 선택하는 방법으로는 소프트웨어 고장 데이터에 따라서 신뢰도 함수의 추정 값에 따른 평균제곱오차를 계산하여 적합한 소프트웨어 신뢰도 함수를 제안하는 방법을 연구하였다. 본 연구에서는 소프트웨어 품질을 측정하기 위한 신뢰도 함수를 제안하기 위하여 모델을 제시하고 고장데이터를 적용하여 추정 값의 오차를 최소화하는 관점에서 소프트웨어 신뢰도 함수를 선택할 수 있는 방안을 제시한 연구로 판단된다.

  • This paper presents the reliability calculation method in power supply for a part of the power system reliability control. This method involves assuming several systems that can meet the demands, accidents on the transmission facilities and power source and performing the load flow calculation which will lead to the demands which are not served, frequency of the not-served demands and mean value of the not-served demands. In this study the simplified method for reliability calculation by using the maximal flow problem was developed. The results demonstrate the remarkable advantages and more useful than any other methods for the practical applications.
