Background: Arthroscopic fixations for large and comminuted bony Bankart lesions are technically difficult. We developed an arthroscopic multiple pulled suture (MPS) technique to restore large and comminuted bony Bankart lesions. Methods: Ten patients (mean age, 49.8 years; range, 31-79 years) underwent bony Bankart repair using the illustrated MPS technique and were then followed for a mean of 27.3 months. A plain radiograph series and three-dimensional computed tomography scans were taken at the initial clinical evaluation and 3 months postoperatively. Outcome measurements included the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, Rowe score, University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) score, and subjective patient satisfaction, along with surgical complications. Results: Union of an osseous fragment with the glenoid rim was confirmed in all patients on a computed tomography scan 3 months after operation. The osseous fragment was restored to proper articular congruence and reduction. The affected shoulder was stable in nine of the 10 patients. One patient presented with a redislocation after a sports injury 3 years postoperatively. The ASES, Rowe, and UCLA scores improved at the final evaluation, and median patient satisfaction at the final follow-up was 9 of 10 points (range, 6-10 points). Conclusions: The arthroscopic MPS technique for bony Bankart lesions with large or comminuted osseous fragments was a relatively easy and safe method for stable fixation of the osseous fragment. Therefore, the arthroscopic MPS technique resulted in good restoration of stability with high patient satisfaction and low complication rates.
This study was carried out to assess the effect of the chlorine treatment into water for processing chicken products in each stage of slaughtering, with a special viewpoint related with reducing the viable number of microorganisms by which the water and the chicken body were contaminated. The mean bacterial number on chicken samples after picking process was log5.37$\pm$0.20~5.84$\pm$0.160CFU/$\textrm{cm}^2$. When assessed by standard plate count method, it was the higher one than any other processing stage in which eviscerating, pinning, packaging, and chilling was followed in order of the mean bacterial number. The coliform bacterial numbers on carcasses after sampling from different processing stages were log2.11$\pm$0.63~2.88$\pm$0.25MPN/$\textrm{cm}^2, which show almost similar numbers in each processing stage. But, after chilling process the number was decreased slightly. The bacterial counts in the water for scalding and chilling showed log3.43 $\pm$ 0.59~5.06$\pm$0.21 and log4.30$\pm$0.21~6.62$\pm$0.33CFU/$m\ell$, respectively. In the coliform counts for the water taken out from the 2nd chilling tank, the number was log1.97$\pm$0.35~2.91$\pm$0.22MPN/$m\ell$ which showed higher than those of the 1st and the 3rd chilling tank water. The effect of chlorination in reducing the bacterial numbers was accepted at the residual chlorine concentration of 1$m\ell$/$\ell$by showing the reduction from $10^8$ to $10^4$CFU level and the numbers were decreased less than 10CFU at the concentration of 5mg/$\ell$, when assessed by viable cell counts. In conclusion, these results suggested that chlorination In chilling water with final concentration of 5mg/$\ell$was strongly recommended to reduce the bacterial numbers on final chicken products.
This study was conducted to develop a methodology to predict utility pole accident rates and to evaluate cost-effectiveness for safety improvement for utility pole accidents. The utility pole accident rate prediction model was based on the encroachment rate approach introduced in the Transportation Research Board special Report 214. The utility pole accident rate on a section of highway depends on the roadside encroachment rate and the lateral extent of encroachment. The encroachment rate is influenced by the horizontal and vertical alignment of the highway as well as traffic volume and mean speed. The lateral extent of encroachment is affected by the horizontal and vertical alignment, the mean speed and the roadside slope. An analytical method to generate the probability distribution function for the lateral extent of encroachment was developed for six kinds of encroachment types by the horizontal alignment and encroachment direction. The encroachment rate was calibrated with the information on highway and roadside conditions and the utility pole accident records collected on the sections of 55mph speed limit of the State Trunk Highway 12 in Wisconsin. The encroachment rate on tangent segment was calibrated as a function of traffic volume with the actual average utility pole accident rates by traffic volume strategies. The adjustment factors for horizontal and vertical alignment were when derived by comparing the actual average utility pole accident rates to the estimations from the model calibrated for tangent and level sections. A computerized benefit-cost analysis procedure was then developed as a means of evaluating alternative countermeasures. The program calculates the benefit-cost ratio and the percent of reduction of utility pole accidents resulting from the implementation of a safety improvement. This program can be used to develop safety improvement alternatives for utility pole accidents when a predetermined performance level is specified.
This study conducted a horticultural therapy program for trainees entrusted to the Juvenile Classification Review Center in order to fill the educational gap while providing emotional stability during the one-month period of commissioned education. The effects of horticultural therapy were examined by the pretest and posttest changes of the emotional items such as anxiety, self-esteem, self-efficacy and stress index. As the research method, this study used the one-group pretest-posttest experimental design on 16 female trainees of commissioned education staying at the Juvenile Classification Review Center in the juvenile reformatory located in A city. The horticultural therapy program was carried out in four sessions: two on flower arrangement and two on planting. The scores before and after the horticultural therapy program were measured using the Revised Children's Manifest Anxiety Scale (RCMAS) to examine the effects of horticultural therapy on the reduction of anxiety for the adolescents staying in the Juvenile Classification Review Center. The results show that there was significant decrease in the mean of anxiety from 62.5 (SD = 6.8) to 57.6 (SD = 8.1) points after the program (p = .002). There was no significant change in self-esteem, which was 76.9 (SD = 11.2) before the horticultural therapy and 78.3 (SD = 8.7) after the therapy (p = .420). In self-efficacy, there was no significant change from 72.9 (SD = 10.9) before and 75.1 (SD = 11.0) after horticultural therapy (p = .178). In order to examine the physiological changes in such emotional functions, this study measured the stress index using the uBioMacpa as the tool. The result of the measurement showed that there was a significant change in the mean from 33.8 (SD = 2.3) before to 31.1 (SD = 2.2) after the horticultural therapy (p < .001).

It is recognized that the installation of energy dissipation devices, such as the tuned mass damper (TMD), decreases the dynamic response of structures, however, the best parameters of each device persist hard to determine. Unlike many works that perform only a deterministic optimization, this work proposes a complete methodology to minimize the dynamic response of footbridges by optimizing the parameters of multiple tuned mass dampers (MTMD) taking into account uncertainties present in the parameters of the structure and also of the human excitation. For application purposes, a steel footbridge, based on a real structure, is studied. Three different scenarios for the MTMD are simulated. The proposed robust optimization problem is solved via the Circle-Inspired Optimization Algorithm (CIOA), a novel and efficient metaheuristic algorithm recently developed by the authors. The objective function is to minimize the mean maximum vertical displacement of the footbridge, whereas the design variables are the stiffness and damping constants of the MTMD. The results showed the excellent capacity of the proposed methodology, reducing the mean maximum vertical displacement by more than 36% and in a computational time about 9% less than using a classical genetic algorithm. The results obtained by the proposed methodology are also compared with results obtained through traditional TMD design methods, showing again the best performance of the proposed optimization method. Finally, an analysis of the maximum vertical acceleration showed a reduction of more than 91% for the three scenarios, leading the footbridge to acceleration values below the recommended comfort limits. Hence, the proposed methodology could be employed to optimize MTMD, improving the design of footbridges.

There is hardly any person in modern times who has not taken soft drinks instead of drinking water. The rate of people taking soft drinks being surprisingly high, researchers around the world have cautioned from time to time that these drinks lead to weight gain, raise the risk of non-communicable diseases and so on. Therefore, in this work an image-based tool is developed to monitor the nutritional information of soft drinks by using deep convolutional neural network with transfer learning. At first, visual saliency, mean shift segmentation, thresholding and noise reduction technique, collectively known as 'pre-processing' are adopted to extract the location of drinks region. After removing backgrounds and segment out only the desired area from image, we impose Discrete Wavelength Transform (DWT) based resolution enhancement technique is applied to improve the quality of image. After that, transfer learning model is employed for the classification of drinks. Finally, nutrition value of each drink is estimated using Bag-of-Feature (BoF) based classification and Euclidean distance-based ratio calculation technique. To achieve this, a dataset is built with ten most consumed soft drinks in Bangladesh. These images were collected from imageNet dataset as well as internet and proposed method confirms that it has the ability to detect and recognize different types of drinks with an accuracy of 98.51%.

In this paper, we propose new search algorithms using SVD(Singular Value Decomposition) for fast search of Raman spectrum. In the proposed algorithms, small number of the eigen vectors obtained by SVD are chosen in accordance with their respective significance to achieve computation reduction. By introducing pilot test, we exclude large number of data from search and then, we apply partial distance search(PDS) for further computation reduction. We prepared 14,032 kinds of chemical Raman spectrum as the library for comparisons. Experiments were carried out with 7 methods, that is Full Search, PDS, 1DMPS modified MPS for applying to 1-dimensional space data with PDS(1DMPS+PDS), 1DMPS with PDS by using descending sorted variance of data(1DMPS Sort with Variance+PDS), 250-dimensional components of the SVD with PDS(250SVD+PDS) and proposed algorithms, PSP and PSSP. For exact comparison of computations, we compared the number of multiplications and additions required for each method. According to the experiments, PSSP algorithm shows 64.8% computation reduction when compared with 250SVD+PDS while PSP shows 157% computation reduction.

Purpose: The nasal bone fracture is most common fracture in facial bone injuries. Regardless of the severity or type of fracture, closed reduction has traditionally been the common method of treatment. However, through detailed pre-operative evaluation, we found out that many patients consider rhinoplasty prior to trauma due to aesthetic desire or nasal deformity with or without septal deviation. In treatment of nasal bone fracture, we focused not only on the fracture management but also on the patients' desire prior to trauma, and we made additional operation according to patients' desire with fracture reduction and gained rewarding outcomes. Methods: From March 2005 to June 2007, total 263 patients were treated for nasal bone fracture. Among these patients, 57 patients (21%) had the additional operation with nasal fracture reduction. The additional operations were categorized in three types: augmentation rhinoplasty with tip plasty (40%), septoplasty only (16%), corrective rhinoplasty (44%). The mean follow-up period was 5.6 months and results were evaluated by scoring. Results: Forty four of 57 patients (77%) were highly satisfied regardless of any additional operation kinds. The complications were one septal perforation, two displacement of implant and four remnant nasal deformities. For the septal perforation, no further management was performed because we lost the contact with the patient. Then 4 of the other complicated patients were revised. Conclusion: In general, many physicians tend to consider nasal fracture as a simple trauma. However through the strict history taking, physical examination and professional counseling, we could catch the patient's cosmetic desire and get the eyes on new concept: the nasal fracture is not only a trauma but a cosmetic and functional field. In the treatment of nasal bone fracture, if additional rhinoplasty is performed, patients will be more satisfied and we also can expect higher profits.

Objectives: This on-site study was performed to evaluate the reduction efficiency of an air cleaner on particulate matters and biological agents in a swine facility. Materials and Methods: Particulate matter was measured using a real-time monitoring recorder and biological agents were sampled with a one-stage impactor and then analyzed based on the microbial culture method. An experimental process for the reduction effect on airborne pollutants through air cleaner operation consisted of three conditions: no treatment, wet scrapper by water spray and wet scrapper by disinfectant spray. Results: Geometric mean levels of particulate matter(TSP, $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$ and $PM_1$) were presented at $1,608{\mu}g/m^3$, $1,373.8{\mu}g/m^3$, $401.8{\mu}g/m^3$ and $144.5{\mu}g/m^3$ for no treatment; $1,503{\mu}g/m^3$, $1,017{\mu}g/m^3$, $159.4{\mu}g/m^3$ and $69.8{\mu}g/m^3$ for wet scrapper by water spray; and $1,222.17{\mu}g/m^3$, $477.17{\mu}g/m^3$, $33.2{\mu}g/m^3$ and $11.1{\mu}g/m^3$ for wet scrapper by disinfectant spray, respectively. In the case of biological agents, the geometric averaged concentrations of total airborne bacteria and fungi were as follows: $45,371cfu/m^3$ and $13,474cfu/m^3$ for no treatment, $43,286cfu/m^3$ and $8,610cfu/m^3$ for wet scrapper by water spray, and $2,440cfu/m^3$ and 1,867 cfu/ for wet scrapper by disinfectant spray, respectively. Regardless of particulate matter and biological agent, the highest concentrations were found for no treatment, while the lowest concentrations were found with wet scrapper by disinfectant spray. Conclusions: Based on the results obtained from this on-site evaluation, there was a significant reduction effect on particulate matter and biological agents through the application of an air cleaner in this study.
Cluster analysis is one of unsupervised learning techniques used for discovering clusters when there is no prior knowledge of group membership. K-means, one of the commonly used cluster analysis techniques, may fail when the number of variables becomes large. In such high-dimensional cases, it is common to perform tandem analysis, K-means cluster analysis after reducing the number of variables using dimension reduction methods. However, there is no guarantee that the reduced dimension reveals the cluster structure properly. Principal component analysis may mask the structure of clusters, especially when there are large variances for variables that are not related to cluster structure. To overcome this, techniques that perform dimension reduction and cluster analysis simultaneously have been suggested. This study proposes probabilistic reduced K-means, the transition of reduced K-means (De Soete and Caroll, 1994) into a probabilistic framework. Simulation shows that the proposed method performs better than tandem clustering or clustering without any dimension reduction. When the number of the variables is larger than the number of samples in each cluster, probabilistic reduced K-means show better formation of clusters than non-probabilistic reduced K-means. In the application to a real data set, it revealed similar or better cluster structure compared to other methods.
