For an effective phase multiplexing in a volume holographic system, four types of phase code, pseudo random code(PSC), Hadamard matrix(HAM), pure random code(PRC), equivalent random code(ERC), used as reference beams are generated. In case of $32{\times}32$ address beam, a phase error with 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% error rate, is purposely added to the real phase values in order to consider the practical SLM's nonlinear characteristics of phase modulation in computer simulation. Crosstalks and SNRs(signal-to-ratio) are comparatively analyzed for these phase codes by the auto-correlation and cross-correlation. PSC has the lowest cross-correlation mean value of 0.067 among four types of phase code, which means the SNR of the pseudo random phase code is higher than other phase codes. Also, the standard deviation of the pseudo random phase code indicating the degree of recalled data degradation is the lowest value of 0.0113. In order to analyze the affect by variation of pixel size, simulation is carried out by same method for the case of $32{\times}32$, $64{\times}64$, $128{\times}128$, $256{\times}256$ address beams.

A digital satellite communication channel has a nonlinearity with memory due to saturation characeristis of the high poer amplifier in the satellite and transmitter/receiver linear filter used in the overall system. In this paper, we propose a complex radial basis function network(CRBFN) based adaptive equalizer for compensation of nonlinearities in digital satellite communication channels. The proposed CRBFN untilizes a complex-valued hybrid learning algorithm of k-means clustering and LMS(least mean sequare) algorithm that is an extension of Moody Darken's algorithm for real-valued data. We evaluate performance of CRBFN in terms of symbol error rates and mean squared errors nder various noise conditions for 4-PSK(phase shift keying) digital modulation schemes and compare with those of comples pth order inverse adaptive Volterra filter. The computer simulation results show that the proposed CRBFN ehibits good equalization, low computational complexity and fast learning capabilities.

The Sinusoidal Transform Coding(STC) is a vocoding scheme based on a sinusoidal model of a speech signal. The low bit-rate speech coding based on sinusoidal model is a method that models and synthesizes speech with fundamental frequency and its harmonic elements, spectral envelope and phase in the frequency region. In this paper, we propose the 2.4kbps low-rate speech coding algorithm using the sinusoidal model of a speech signal. In the proposed coder, the pitch frequency is estimated by choosing the frequency that makes least mean squared error between synthetic speech with all spectrum peaks and speech synthesized with chosen frequency and its harmonics. The spectral envelope is estimated using SEEVOC(Spectral Envelope Estimation VOCoder) algorithm and the discrete all-pole model. The phase information is obtained using the time of pitch pulse occurrence, i.e., the onset time, as well as the phase of the vocal tract system. Experimental results show that the synthetic speech preserves both the formant and phase information of the original speech very well. The performance of the coder has been evaluated in terms of the MOS test based on informal listening tests, and it achieved over the MOS score of 3.1.
In this paper, we deal with the wavefront compensation capability of a silicon carbide (SiC) deformable mirror (DM) with 37 actuators for adaptive optics. The wavefront compensation capability of the SiC DM is predicted by computer simulation and examined by actual experiments with a closed-loop adaptive optics system consistsing of a light source, a phase plate, a SiC DM, a high speed Shack-Hartmann sensor, and a control computer. Distortion of wavefront is caused by the phase plate in the closed-loop adaptive optics system. The distorted wavefront has a peak-to-valley (PV) wavefront error of $0.3{\mu}m{\sim}0.9{\mu}m$ and root-mean-square (RMS) error of $0.06{\mu}m{\sim}0.25{\mu}m$. The high-speed Shack-Hartmann sensor measures the wavefront error of the distortion caused by the phase plate, and the SiC DM compensates for the distorted wavefront. The compensated wavefront has residual errors lower than $0.1{\mu}m$ PV and $0.03{\mu}m$ RMS. Consequently, we conclude that we can compensate for the distorted wavefront using the SiC DM in the closed-loop adaptive optics system with an operating frequency speed of 500 Hz.

This study evaluates the prediction skills of stratospheric polar vortex intensification events (VIEs) in Global Seasonal Forecasting System (GloSea5) model, an operational subseasonal-to-seasonal (S2S) prediction model of Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). The results show that the prediction limits of VIEs, diagnosed with anomaly correlation coefficient (ACC) and mean squared skill score (MSSS), are 13.6 days and 18.5 days, respectively. These prediction limits are mainly determined by the eddy error, especially the large-scale eddy phase error from the eddies with the zonal wavenumber 1. This might imply that better prediction skills for VIEs can be obtained by improving the model performance in simulating the phase of planetary scale eddy. The stratospheric prediction skills, on the other hand, tend to not affect the tropospheric prediction skills in the analyzed cases. This result may indicate that stratosphere-troposphere dynamic coupling associated with VIEs might not be well predicted by GloSea5 model. However, it is possible that the coupling process, even if well predicted by the model, cannot be recognized by monotonic analyses, because intrinsic modes in the troposphere often have larger variability compared to the stratospheric impact.

The synchronous phasor measurement algorithm is the core content of the phasor measurement unit. This manuscript proposes a dynamic synchronous phasor measurement algorithm based on compressed sensing theory. First, a dynamic signal model based on the Taylor series was established. The dynamic power signal was preprocessed using a least mean square error adaptive filter to eliminate interference from noise and harmonic components. A Chirplet overcomplete dictionary was then designed to realize a sparse representation. A reduction of the signal dimension was next achieved using a Gaussian observation matrix. Finally, the improved orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm was used to realize the sparse decomposition of the signal to be detected, the amplitude and phase of the original power signal were estimated according to the best matching atomic parameters, and the total vector error index was used for an error evaluation. Chroma 61511 was used for the output of various signals, the simulation results of which show that the proposed algorithm cannot only effectively filter out interference signals, it also achieves a better dynamic response performance and stability compared with a traditional DFT algorithm and the improved DFT synchronous phasor measurement algorithm, and the phasor measurement accuracy of the signal is greatly improved. In practical applications, the hardware costs of the system can be further reduced.

This paper presents a Ku-Band Doppler Radar System to measure respiration and heart rate. It was measured by using simultaneous radar and ECG(Electrocardiogram). Arctangent demodulation without dc offset compensation can be applied to transmitted I/Q(In-phase & Quadrature-phase) signal in order to improve the RMSE(Root Mean Square Error) about 50 %. The power leaked to receiving antenna from the transmitting antenna is always generated because of continuously opening the transceiver of CW(Continuous Wave) Doppler radar. As the output power increase, leakage power has an effect on the SNR(Signal-to-Noise Ratio) of the system. Therefore, in this paper, leakage cancellation technique that adds the signal having the opposite phase of the leakage power to the leakage power was implemented in order to minimize the decline of receiver sensitivity. By applying the leakage cancellation techniques described above, it is possible to measure the heart rate and respiration of the human at a distance of up to 35 m. the heart rate of the measured data at a distance of 35 m accords with the heart rate extracted from the ECG data.
This study performed fault test on global positoining system (GPS) carrier phase measurements, which is a preprocessing step to generate the positioning correction information based on the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) infrastructure. The existing carrier acceleration ramp step test (CARST) method affects the test result by using the mean value to eliminate the receiver clock error. In this regard, this study applied differencing and compared its results with those of the existing CARST. The fault simulation that applied artificial faults to the actual data found that the fault could be detected independently on each satellite when difference method was applied, and the single difference CARST and the double difference CARST produced similar results. The comparison with the existing method using actual data demonstrated the strengths and weaknesses of satellite and station single difference. Nevertheless, it is our understanding that it would require an additional analysis to determine whether the results were affected by the satellite or receiver clock error.
Underwater acoustic wave in shallow water is propagated through multipath that has a large delay spread causing Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) and these characteristics deteriorate the performance in the communication system. In order to analyze the communication performance and investigate the correlation with multipath delay spread in a reverberant environment, an underwater acoustic communication experiment using Binary Phase-Shift Keying (BPSK) signals with symbol rates from 100 sym/s to 8000 sym/s was conducted in a 5 × 5 × 5 m3 water tank. The acoustic channels in a well-controlled tank environment had the characteristics of dense multipath delay spread due to multiple reflections from the interfaces and walls within the tank and showed the maximum excess delay of 40 ms or less, and the Root Mean Squared (RMS) delay spread of 8 ms or less. In this paper, the performances of Bit Error Rate (BER) and output Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) were analyzed using four types of communication demodulation techniques. And the parameter, Symbol interval to Delay spread Ratio in reverberant environment (SDRrev), which is the ratio of symbol interval to RMS delay spread in the reverberant environment is defined. Finally, the SDRrev was compared to the BER and the output SNR. The results present the reference symbol rate in which high communication performance can be guaranteed.
